This is a family owned Indian/ Napalese reataurant. The name Sherpa is derived from the last name of the owner. How did I know? Rom, our server, explained to my family and I. Excellent food and service! Atmosphere is very calming and has welcoming vibe! Every dish we ate was delicious and sooo good! They will ask you about how spicy you want your food: mild, medium or hot. The chicken Biryani was out of this world! A must try!!! I ordered lamb masala which is very tasty. My daughter ordered lamb vindaloo and my husband ordered buttered chicken! The meat in all the dishes were tender and you can tell they were cooked with love and mindful intention to please our palates! Made a reservation over an hour in advance and was two minutes from being dropped off before getting a call canceling our reservation for a private event. If they knew that they were closed to the public, they should not have allowed reservations to be made and to not have waited to contact me for so long. The Little Sherpa isn't too fancy, but the service and the cooking are outstanding. The extensive menu includes both northern Indian and Nepalese dishes - we focused on the Nepalese ones and were glad we did. Nepal is a diverse country, about the same latitude and size as Florida. The cuisine is related to Indian, but with a Chinese flair, courtesy of its neighbor to the north with which it shares a 550 mile-long border. We started with Vegetable Samosas (plenty of flavor, mostly mashed potato inside, similar to Indian ones we've had before) but then were very impressed by the steamed Chicken Mo-Mos (9 dumplings with interesting Nepalese spices). The Nepalese chicken Keema Noodles were a spaghetti-like pasta with flavorful ground and sauteed chicken - with a hit of the special spicy soy (you might have to ask for it) it was really outstanding. But we saved some to take home to leave room for the star of the night: The Sherpa Thali Chicken - basically a full Nepalese meal on a platter. Several brass bowls held, in turn, a sort of butter chicken, a cauliflower dish, a yellow dhal, and a soaked cake desert, along with gorgeous loooong-grain rice (served with ghee) lovely mustard greens, and two kinds of pickle chutney. We we also served, on the house, a Rice Pudding desert which was fresh and not too sweet. We loved everything and hope to try more of the huge menu. read more

The Chicken Fried and steamed Mo Mo is outstanding, we had it today as well as the Peanut Sadheko, Little Sherpa Naan, and the fried cheese! I also had the I had Chicken Tikka Masala last week with a friend from work, "who had? I wish I could remember what it was", but I tried it and it was awesome! What a great discovery! We were looking for something new and tasty and we ran across this family owned restaurant that opened a couple of years ago. The food is excellent. The service is great. I eat meat and prefer spicy and my husband does not. They accommodated us both. The owner is delightful and fun to talk with. We want to travel to Nepal and we will certainly be back. read more

We ate at this sweet little restaurant and were delighted by the service and the food. We loved the steamed chicken dumplings (momo) and also feasted on the beautifully prepared tandoori chicken with a generous side order of lightly prepared naan. The Little Sherpa is a special little gem in Sauganash (right across the street from the Whole Foods at Cicero and Peterson). The space is thoughtfully decorated and very clean and the food is very delicious. A husband and wife team own the restaurant - he is very warm and provides friendly service; his wife cooks all the delicious meals in the back kitchen. The food is wonderfully seasoned, not greasy and very fresh. The meals are reasonably priced and the serving sizes generous. While they do take out, I highly encourage you to dine at the restaurant- you won't regret it. read more
