I am hosting a German exchange student, and I am taking her to all 5 Great Lakes, & as much as possible in between, in our beautiful mitten state. We had the good fortune of spending our first such trip, to visit Lake Huron, at the lovely Himelhoch B&B. The location in Caro was perfect for day trips to different areas along the shores of Lake Huron. We are also into geocaching and found several within walking distance. Breakfast at the Himelhoch is fresh, plentiful and prepared to order, coffee is hot, and the wrap around porch the perfect setting. The proprietor is also generous with the amenities, offering a hot tub, bonfire, and a fully stocked game room that's always open. Our room was clean, comfortable and cute, bathroom was spacious. I would definitely stay at Himelhoch again! read more

Looking for a beautiful, quiet, clean getaway? Do not look any further. I am in love with this Bed and Breakfast. The staff, Miranda are truly awesome. Attentive, very friendly & superb attention to detail. The property owner, Don is so nice & humble. He has established such a beautiful place to relax. The entire place has beautiful decor, top-tier cleanliness. (Which is very important to me). Super comfortable king size beds, retractable tv's, and large soaking tubs was exactly what I wanted & needed. I honestly wanted to make sure that I mentioned everything that made this a great experience. Since so much thought & consideration is taken into making a great stay. Such a Magnificent Place to spend the night!! My wife and I were visiting the East side of Michigan for my birthday celebration and overnight. I booked a hotel near Flint but when I told my wife she was a bit disappointed. So back to the search engine I spied a BnB that I had never heard of before. I checked the very positive reviews and booked a night (and cancelled my booking for the hotel in Flint). Utterly amazing is the experience we had at the Himelhoch. We were met in the front yard by the owner who was adjusting the Halloween decorations (he really goes all out). He gave us a tour of this beautiful labor of love. The overnight accommodation was delightful in the very comfortable queen bed. The breakfast was delicious and made to order. Lots of homemade preserves and plenty of delicious hot coffee. We will definitely return but next time we will be sure to bring our bathing suits to enjoy the outdoor hot tub. read more

It was a really beautiful home inside. Super clean too. The breakfast was delicious and the owner was very friendly and accommodating. We slept great (bed was super comfy). The house was quiet and peaceful. Also upon arrival to breakfast the there was really peaceful instrumental music playing. Very ambient. Lastly, my husband and I were staying here for a mini Valentine's Day getaway. We ordered the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries (so delicious). The owner also made sure to get a non alcoholic sparkling drink for my husband (as I requested since my husband doesn't drink ). Great stay. We recommend this place. read more

We've had a wonderful 2day stay at this lovingly restored Victorian B&B. The rooms are charming, the beds are comfy, the staff and owner are friendly and very accommodating. The neighborhood is safe and quaint. We especially enjoyed ordering our breakfast from an extensive menu served at the time we requested in their beautiful dining room. Wow. After a long day of traveling this bed & breakfast was heaven. The room was beautiful. Old fashioned look with modern upgrades, like heated floor in the bathroom & electric fireplace. I stayed here while in Caro for a business trip a few months ago and have been meaning to write a review. This was my first experience at a bed and breakfast and I was so impressed! The bed in my room was super comfortable and my room was very clean. I was the only one staying at the time (weekday in the winter time) and it was super quiet and relaxing. Don was so helpful and was great about checking in to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. Oh-and I definitely can't forget about the breakfast! My husband and I stayed at this wonderful little bed and breakfast on our most recent trip back to Caro for a family get together. It is evident in every detail that the owners have put in a TON of work renovating this gorgeous old Victorian gem. The room was immaculate, the amenities generous (game room, jacuzzi, fireplace etc.) and the owners warm and welcoming. Wish we could have stayed for more than one night! Breakfast was delicious and was so much more relaxing than at a conventional hotel. The only tiny little nitpicky thing is their free wifi did not reach our room, but they said they had recently moved the transmitter to try and reach the game room. One of my favorite touches is the gargoyl that greets you overlooking the porch! Great attention to detail! read more

I cannot say enough great things about this B&B and it's owners. My husband and I were traveling with our 10 month old and I'm so glad I found this place. We stayed in the Myer and Rosa suite. The bed was very comfy and the room was very comfortable despite it snowing and freezing outside. We had enough room to put a small packnplay for outlet little guy to sleep next to the bed. Also, the floors were heated which was a great added touch. Don, the owner was a perfect host and cooked amazing breakfast for us every morning and even accommodated our baby with kid plates. A few other perks are there is a game room which is nice when you just don't want to get out in the cold, it's right off the main road and easy to find and and very elegantly decorated. Though we had our baby with us, the house is very romantic and peaceful. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip the this area! read more

I had a week long vacation and I didn't plan very well, so, on a whim, I looked up B&Bs in surrounding area and booked a few. Great idea with great results! It is obvious from the moment that you step in that great care and attention to detail is given to this Inn. Don was so welcoming and provided a wonderful walk through. He was attentive, kind, and a great chef, providing attention, but not being overbearing. I stayed in the Myer and Rosa Suite and this is definitely the suite that I would recommend if you have the opportunity. There's a comfortable sitting area, the bed, and the bathroom!! The bathroom is magnificent!! This room also has direct walking access to the game room (not directly attached, so no worries about noise, but easy access). So glad I came here. I like Pros and Cons list as they are more visually appealing, so I will provide one below: Pros: 1. Attention to detail--clean,beautifully decorated, not cluttered. 2. The Myer and Rosa Suite is super spacious! 3. The bathroom!-It has history and it is so spacious; separate claw foot tub and a shower area. It is so roomy! 4. Easy access to the game room, if you so choose. The game room has it's own separate bathroom, a pool table, t.v., slot machine. It's neat. 5. Walking distance to downtown. 6. The hospitality-Don was so gracious and kind. Good conversation, but he's not overbearing at all, allowing for space if wanted/needed. He's also a great chef-my breakfast was amazing! 7. Good, hearty, breakfast. You get to choose from a menu that he then prepares for you. Yum! 8. This room was quiet! I loved that I couldn't hear anything. :) Cons: 1. The town is little, so there's not much to walk to, at least not that I saw. 2. There are spots for about 3-5 cars to park, the parking was slightly awkward for me, but this is just a me thing. From the moment we arrived to the sad moment we departed, everything was perfect with our stay at the Himelhoch. The historic Victorian from the turn of the 20th century was beautifully restored. The owner, Don, was extremely attentive during our entire stay. Breakfasts were well organized and delicious. He was sensitive if any guests had allergies and did a great job accommodating. We set out and toured the area to see the petroglyphs and the lakes but the return back to the Himelhoch was the highlight of the day. We stayed in the Goldie Mae Suite and we highly recommend it. If you are traveling in The Thumb of Michigan and wanting to stay in that area, Himelhoch B & B in Caro is the place to stay - whether for a short stay or an extended one! Where to start? The Innkeepers, Don and Melissa, are so very, very nice and want your stay to be just right! While you are their guests, Don and Melissa are sooo friendly and nice - you will leave as friends. The B & B is a lovely Victorian home which has been lovingly restored with much hard work. They recently hosted a tea for a group here - how perfect!!! How I would love to come to a tea here! (or a luncheon of any sort!) My husband and I both loved the location - in a residential area where we walked daily, and one block off the main street of Caro - it was fun to experience the downtown stores there. (There are several beauty salons, cafes, a hardware store, a pharmacy, etc.) We love exploring the towns we are visiting. Also, it's the perfect location if you are seeing Dr. Matt Shelson (Shelson Natural Health) - you walk across the street for your appointments!!! It is a perfect location for a number of fun day trips in the thumb area. Our room was the Myer & Rosa Suite; it was perfect for our extended stay! A queen-sized bed, a separate sitting area, my husband was a VERY happy camper with the very large HD screen TV, a remote-controlled fireplace/heater, and a bathroom we'd love to have at home - with two sinks, mirrors, and sets of lights! AND . . .thermostatically controlled heated floor - a first for us! (Definitely hard to leave, for sure.) There is a large 2-person shower, and a deep, deep oak-rimmed claw-foot tub on a large marble slab - what a wonderful and beautiful piece (and bath!) (I've never seen one on a marble slab before!) There is also a deck off the bedroom area - with chairs and a table and also hot tub. In addition to the guest rooms, there is a music room, dining room, parlor, and living room. It was immaculate; we have been to many B & Bs over the years and never have we been a place that was soooo clean everywhere. I so enjoyed reading in the parlor during our extended stay. AND . . .not to be overlooked - There is also a Man Cave! It has a HUGE TV, pool table, and well stocked refrigerator - with every type of beverage you can imagine - all to be enjoyed on the large sofa or in your room. Each AM you are served the breakfast of your choice at the time of your choice in the dining room! The day before your breakfast, you make your selections on a menu card. Don is careful to check on any food allergies. Breakfast always starts with a fruit dish, juice if desired, and your choice of eggs (scrambled or over-easy or over-medium), toast, French Toast, waffles, pork or turkey sausage (link or patty), bacon, cereal and/or oatmeal. Of course, coffee, milk or tea, also. In the Music Room, there is an electric pot with water if you want tea, coffee, or cocoa during the day. We must always bring out work with us, and WiFi worked perfectly and was extremely fast. read more
