I was told by another transmission shop that does auto repair and transmission that my transmission was failing , most places don't want to work on my car because it is a problem car. I was surprised at the time it took to repair, they said a week, and once the work was started it was a week. The repair bill was far less than the other shop and I don't know how long I would have been without a car. The car gave me trouble after I got it, so I took it back. The mechanic looked at it and told me it was an air flow problem. I am very familiar with that term. The part was cleaned and I was told it might work, and it did for 2 days. I found a repair shop that was fair and the car seems to be running fine now. I don't blame the repair shops, my car is a problem car, but its the comfort and ease of getting into it that has me going to repair shops ,very few cars are senior sensitive. read more

After installing my own transmission on my '96 IMPALA, I was having trouble due to my error on too much trans fluid and it overheated and lost radiator fluid as well. I thought I did everything correct on which I did. Jus too much fluid. Soooo I said to self! Take it to a trans shop, I read reviews, took word of mouth in to consideration. I eventually selected HIRO TRANSMISSION. At first I was like I dunno because the guy (MIKE) didn't seem interested but I used him anyway. I'm glad I did, they basically serviced it and restored the fluids and I was good. No leaks they found ( to self) YAY!!! You have no idea how impressed I am with these guys!! Brought in my '98 4Runner with 290k miles thinking I needed a rebuild after so many miles. Calvin gave me a fair price for the rebuild. Jimmy called asking me to describe the symptoms and asked a lot of questions, which I really appreciated. Sounded like he wanted to clearly identify the issue. Ultimately, rather than just go for the rebuild, they both said that the transmission is still surprisingly strong and they recommend not to touch it, but if I do experience a problem, take note of the situation and what I was doing, so they can try to replicate it. I visited this shop when I had issues with my 1991 Nissan Maxima. The staff was very professional and helpful. They quoted us at a great price for a new transmission. As a younger car owner at the time, some shops and mechanics take advantage of certain customers. Luckily, that was not the problem here! A few months into having the work done, I began to have problems. Upset and frustrated, I called the shop back. They were so kind and helpful and let us know that although this issue was uncommon, they would gladly fix or replace it for free under warranty. Now THAT is customer service! I was concerned I wouldn't be able to keep my stock shifter since the trans is not from the car. They worked their magic and everything lines up perfectly. Hiro was recommended by a friend that dinos race cars and he's the only transmission guy he'll use. I took my '66 Chevelle here to swap my 350 for a 700r and never had a problem. Even when I had questions on a transmission for my upcoming LS swap in my '51 pick-up he answered them all. Took my car in for transmission leak and to have my gears lowered from 373 to 308. The gears I love it. The transmission leak took back a few times and they said that there's no leak. I told Calvin it doesn't leak right away that it takes a few days and then it leaks. He said It was the oil leaking I told him I do have an oil leak but this leak is red and I had to add a quart of transmission fluid ever two weeks. There friendly, polite and was trying to be helpful but they did not fix my leak. They also moved my trans cooler because it wasn't getting enough air flow and did a great job read more

I knew I would get nailed, however this wasn't the with Hiro Auto Service. My wife had problems with her transmission and I knew it wouldn't be good news, having had transmission problems in the past and trying to find good people to do work on them was almost impossible. That's why I want to thank you fellow YELPERS!!! You all helped my to find a place quickly based on your reviews and get me to a good business. That day I called Calvin and described the problem with my wifes Ford Escape. Immediately, he started to tell me what he thought it was, but also told me that if he was wrong what the worst case analysis would be (between $1,100 to 2,100). I hate transmissions. Anyway he brought it into the shop and half a day later, I prepared for the bad news, when he told me that it would be the "band" of the transmission which he described earlier as being the best case analysis ($1,100). The best is what comes next. Calvin and his shop are so honest that when I showed up to his shop and asked him to go easy.....the bill was only $619.00 including tax!!!!! I was never so happy to pay a transmission bill. Imagine how I almost wanted to hug and kiss this guy. Yelpers, if you want to be treated respectfully by an straightforward and honest transmission shop this is the one for you. If you go elsewhere....BEWARE! so far they have had my car almost 5 weeks... brought it back 3 times saying it was fixed... still not shifting right and back in their shop after 2700.00. If they fix it and have a reason for such service I' come back and tell you... bty my first experience with them resulted in a blown up transmisson... had a 12 month or 12000 mile warrenty... so 11,000 miles and 13 months ...boom! OK OK OK after almost 8 weeks its working right! So even though it took so long I give high marks for their willingness to stay with it and get it done right. Parts were an issues, delays in delivery etc so I think they did ok BUT they did bring it to me 3 times saying it was fixed when it wasnt.. PEOPLE you have to watch your own backs... even with a good company! BTW Jeff is an ok guy! read more

It's hard to find a good mechanic, especially one that knows transmissions, but there is nobody better in the South Bay than Hiro's! I was referred to Hiro's Transmissions by a coworker of mine who has lived in the area all his life. After being quoted a ridiculous price at another shop in Torrance, I was expecting to pay over $1,300 to have my transmission work completed. Jimmy, the lead mechanic at Hiro's, exceeded my expectations in every way. He was able to correctly diagnose the electrical problem I had with my transmission (it was the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid), order and install the parts needed, change out my automatic transmission fluid and filter and change my oil - all for less than $500. They performed the repair in just a few days too. I can't speak enough about how professional and courteous these guys are. They are truly the best in the South Bay! read more

I doubt that they even consulted the Mitchell guide when they came up with this number. Uh, no thanks. Was referred by 2 friends to Hiro without hesitation, so I was somewhat assured. I just want to compare prices before I drive my car bcuz it only goes 3 mph , and he told me he can't help me just by giving him the code of the sensor. Was given a 4WD Trooper for free from a friend, yet the fluid hadn't been changed in 60K miles. I knew it was not quite running properly, sticking a bit during upshifts. Pretty minor but I knew the transmission needed a flush and filter change. I've had work done at the well known Torrance shop, but knew them to be expensive. And the place on Lomita Blvd is pretty dirty. When I worked in Gardena, I had asked around for recommendations for transmission shops. Hiro's was recommended twice, so I thought I'd give them a try. I dropped off the vehicle, and Calvin called an hour later with the bad news. I had a broken plastic washer in the lower pan. I had several choices and decided to have Hiros remove the transmission and repair the immediate problem. The vehicle wasn't worth dropping in a rebuilt transmission, but the total repair was only $750 including a full flush, new filter and a repaired front pump washer and seal system. This was very reasonable for a 4WD auto transmission. I'm very satisfied with the speed, quality of repair and the options we discussed. Two thumbs up. Pretty clean shop. read more

Calvin took great care of me from the start. Originally took my Toyota truck in to get a new clutch after 185k miles on the original. It was done within a couple of days at a good price. Fast forward two years later, and started to have problems shifting into gears, as well as it popping out of gear. Thought it was going to be a bunch of money. Turns out it was a minor part that wore out. Was in and out at a minimal price, and it now shifts like new. They also figured out why my truck was bucking back and forth in first gear. I took my 2000 Mazda in to get an estimate on rebuilding or getting a rebuilt tranny and was COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED. I read all of the great comments and all the bullcrap and decided to give them a try. Well I was told that it would be $2500.00 to start. The first thing that I thought and still think is that I was given this price because I am a WOMAN and they thought that I didn't know anything about auto repair. I do know that they were not going to get $2500 or more from me at all. The vehicle itself is not worth no $2500. HIRO'S LIKE'S TO CHEAT WOMEN. I took my vehicle to another shop and paid $850.00 with a 2yr. warranty and HIRO'S wanted to only give me a 1yr warranty. My car runs perfect now thanks to T1. The solenoid pack on my truck went out and when I had the diagnostic done at the dealer they quoted me $735 just to change that out. It would have cost me another $180 to change the fluid and have the transmission flushed. I then called Sam at Western Auto Body because he was very helpful to me in the past and asked him to recommend someone who works on transmissions. That is how I found Hiro's and ended up getting the solenoid pack changed and the transmission drained, flushed and filled with new fluid for $684. The work was done in just a few hours and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable too. I would definitely recommend this garage for your needs and am glad that I found it. read more

I had a 'Check Engine' light come on in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 that related to my transmission. Although my Jeep only had 98k miles on it and the trans had been serviced regularly, it turned out that several clutches in the automatic were worn, causing it to slip. The shop completely rebuilt it with upgraded parts and my Check Engine light is gone for good. The Jeep also drives fantastic. Calvin is the guy you'll talk to and Jim is the tech. Both are sharp and really know their stuff. Their prices are fair, the work is excellent and the turnaround time is good.
