I thought there was something wrong with my car and needed an oil change. For an inspection and oil change I paid around $243 which wasn't too bad. They scheduled me in the following week after I called for an appointment. They didn't find anything wrong with the car -which there still isn't fast forward 5 months later- Nice people up front. If you are wondering where you can bring your vehicle into a repair shop where it will be serviced by good honest people of character, look no further H&H Automotive. I was traveling through Elko, NV on my motorcycle when the foot peg on my bike broke. I needed an easy out to replace the broken bolt. I stopped in at the shop fifteen minutes before opening and asked if I could borrow a tool from them. Landon was more than happy to assist. He handed me his entire easy-out tool kit to try and get the problem fixed. Unfortunately, I was having no luck. Landon stopped by where I was in the parking lot to check in. He noticed the difficulty of the problem and then volunteered to do a weld on the bolt so it could be removed and the problem fixed. All in all, I was there for a good hour with Landon personally helping us out for much of it. Ultimately, he just wanted to make sure the job got done right and to make sure I was well taken care of so that I could get back on the road. After hitting a dear in the middle of no where. I finally found cell service and I phoned AAA for a tow to Elko NV. Seven hours later at 2 am I arrive at a motel for the remainder of the night. In the morning I arranged the car to be towed to the shop and that shop declined to do what was needed to get me home. They said it needs to go to a collision shop, which would be days and a lot of experience. understand this a 2000 model and has more than 250,000 miles. Next door is His and Hers Auto Repair. I explained my predicament and what I was hoping for. The owner replied, exactly what I wanted to here. You just want to get home asap. He juggled his work schedule to see what could his shop could do to make this happen. After diagnosis, the radiator that was needed was not available for 2 or 3 days. So he repaired the damage with his Experience, Knowledge, and pure determination : ie the Ban-Aid approach. The car was done that afternoon. The bill was less than I thought it would be. Unbelievable is all I can say. Dropped my truck off to have the AC serviced since there is a leak. H&H pressure tested it and said the schrader valve was leaking. They replaced it and recharged the system. I picked the truck up at 7pm and drove home to Eureka (115 miles away). The AC system was blowing cool but not cold. I then drove it the next morning and it was blowing hot. I called and got one of the ignorant women that works there. She demanded that I bring it in right now and I told her that I live in Eureka and I need to get a ride and this is a big inconvenience. She got nasty with me and told me not to get ornery. I told her, "What do you expect? I'm not happy about this. I paid for a service and it wasn't done." She then got nastier with me and told me I was being an A-hole. I returned the favor and called her a nastier name. Then she started yelling, telling me to EFF OFF and go somewhere else. Eventually, she hung up on me but I did manage to call back and tell her that I will be filing a police report for theft. I have never experienced such nasty, ignorant, and disgusting behavior from any business. Now I am out $320 and still have no AC. UNBELIEVABLE. And after writing this review, I am getting harassing texts from H&H staff, telling me to eat their *SS. read more

If I could give a lower rating I would. I live in Elko and always try to support my local small businesses. "His & Hers Automotive" was recommended to me by my tried-and-true amazing oil change shop. Naturally, since my oil change guys are top-notch, I followed their recommendation. The "Her" of this outfit is the #1 reason that Big Box stores will always squash the mom and pop shops. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer in my life. A Big Box store would have fired "Her" for treating a customer so atrociously. We dropped a company truck off at the shop over 3 weeks ago. We were sent an electronic estimate, we approved the estimate, and the work was not completed. They "never received our approval". The glitch in their electronic system became the fault of the customer. When I called to clarify the miscommunication, the "Her" lost her ever-loving mind over the phone saying, "Nope, not today, I don't need this, I am refusing to do this work. Take your truck somewhere else". She is declining an $8,000+ job because she's having a bad day and a customer got caught in the crossfire. I tried to reason with her, asked if there was someone else I could talk to, and she just said "No, take you truck somewhere else. I don't need this". I am a small business owner myself, and I absolutely cannot fathom treating a client this way. So under no circumstances would I ever recommend taking your vehicle to this shop as they clearly do not value their customers or reputation. read more

On Sunday June 27th my husband and I set off for a five day cross-country move. Halfway through our first day, our car that was towing a trailer, started to make horrible grinding and clanking noises. We pulled over and broke down right outside Elko. The tow truck driver recommended H&H and I am so happy we took his suggestion. On Monday morning they looked at our car and determined our engine blew. Turns out fitting a one bedroom apartment into two cars and a trailer is not the best idea and the last car place who changed the oil a week prior over filled and flooded the engine. Our car never stood a chance, but maybe we could have made it if we had changed the oil with H&H. :) Everyone was so nice and compassionate, especially Pam. They did the diagnostic free of charge and even offered to store the car at their garage for free until we figured out what to do with it so we could continue on our journey. I bought an engine for my 97 Camaro through H&H. It was installed by a mechanic for H&H and was a total disaster. The install was done incorrectly and there was constant leaking of oil. I went to the shop and was constantly given the run around that it somehow was not their fault. I had the vehicle inspected by a different mechanic that said whoever installed the engine not only put it in incorrectly, but took parts of your engine, like screws and used older parts. I took this information to H&H and the lady who ran the shop was very disrespectful and told me to get out of her shop. By that time after I also spoke to the mechanic who gave me the run around, a week later he packed his tools and somehow disappeared from the city. For all of those reasons and costing me a lot of money, I would not ever recommend going there. read more

We broke down 20 miles from Elko on a Sunday and this place was recommended by our tow truck driver. Monday morning at 8 am, they said they'd look at it to get us back on our road trip (from Oregon) as soon as possible. By 9:45 am they called with a quote and told us our car would be read by noon. Not only did they deliver our vehicle at the time they told us, THE SAME DAY, but their prices and service were STELLAR! We cannot recommend this shop highly enough! read more

These are the nicest people on the planet. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to go back here. In fact, I hope that if I ever break down again that I do i in Elko so that I know where I'm going to take my car. Although they couldn't work on my van (because it's a diesel) they did *everything* in their power to help me. They saw me working under the van in their lot on labor day and not only did they not ask me to leave (the trailer was in the middle of their lot) Coby came by and tried to help me, he charged the battery and jumped the van (I had run the battery down trying to prime the fuel filter), even got under there to check that I had put the fuel filter in correctly, and when he determined that we needed to plug it into the computer II was able to make an appt to go by tuesday morning. When I got down there tuesday morning, not only did Juanita know which shop to send me to that could work on the van, she also recommended a fantastic towing company that was able to come down, move my trailer off the back of the van and *then* take the van to the shop for me. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to take my car here. If this is how fantastic they are towards people that are broken down I can only imagine what they do for actual customers. read more

Bestest and most honest place to have your car worked on. Headed back to CA and battery or alternator died in middle of desert. AAA finally showed up after 2.5 hours and got it towed into Elko. Pam in office even dropped us off at our hotel in Elko. Car was ready to go by 11am next morning. It only needed new battery but most shops would likely tell us alternator went bad too. They tested the new battery to make sure it didn't lose charge and we so appreciate it. Made it back to CA and battery still working. read more

I took my truck in for a new clutch. 57 days later got my truck back after I threatened to sue. Charged me twice as much as they said. The 4 wheel drive would not work. Went to the shop behind them and they told me the shift lever was in talked backwards and the vacuume lines were not hooked up. The back up lites have not worked since. Please please do not go here. But if you do, force then to give you an estimate in writing up front. read more

Yes they are indeed very nice people and they helped us to dive back to home when our car broke down in our trip from San Francisco to Victor, ID. But I still feel ripped off. Details are as follows. We were in a trip from San Francisco to Victor, ID for seeing the solar eclipse. That was the heatwave time and we were driving under 120F temperature. We were planning to stay for the night in Elko but 40-50 miles to Elko our 2005 Subaru outback XT turbo gave the check engine signal and started to act weirdly. I read the error codes with my simple ODBII reader and codes were all related to fuel-air ratio. I reset the codes but car was still didn't feel normal, power was very weak and it was stalling very often. Using the side road, we reached Elko and early in the next morning we called H&H automotive. They were friendly and helpful, they checked the car while we had our breakfast. They told us that there were 40+ errors all possibly pointing to the oxygen intake sensor. They said that they need to order the sensor which would arrive the next afternoon and there was no guarantee that it'd solve the issue (although the mechanic sounded pretty sure that it'd fix). We agreed but our plans were pre-arranged, thus we rented a car and continued our trip telling H&H that we'd pick-up the car on our way back to home 9 days later. Next day they called and informed us that the oxygen sensor fixed the issue. 9 days later, we paid $400+ for all the work and the new sensor and started our trip back to home. Half-way in our way the check-engine light lit again and when I read the codes, they were the same codes as before (mixure is too lean, etc) and car misbehaved the same way. We reached home with great difficulty and many hours later than planned. Weather was very hot during the return trip as well. So the problem was not the oxygen sensor, it was something else. So far there is nothing to blame H&H for misconduct. Sounds like they replaced the sensor, tested the car, it was working thus they thought that they fixed the car. Until I took the car to my mechanic I belived that too. But story doesn't end here. In San Francisco I took the car to my own mechanic, told the story. He checked the car, found that air-intake hose was disconnected (probably due to extreme temperatures). When he plug the hose back in, car started to act normally. He said he clamped the hose so that it doesn't come off again. I paid only $60 for the diagnostics and that simple fix. With this new information, Elko story turned out be more like this, they realized the disconnected hose, but wanted to sell us an oxygen sensor too. So they replaced the oxygen sensor, plugged the hose back but they didn't even clamped it so that it doesn't come off again. They costed us $700+ with the car rental and unnecessarily replaced oxygen sensor. Yes they also fixed the real issue (unplugged the hose back in) but they even didn't fix it permanently with a simple clamp. read more

Don't go to this place. They will kill you. The mechanic replace my tie rod and after 2 days it was pulled out. Mechanic forgot to tighten the tie rod. I have to pay twice for alignment and they don't want to replace the rack and pinion. Thread was messed up. Go to other place. read more

Overheated in Wendover, UT and tried to get help, but no parts and only a few mechanics. Managed to get to Elko, NV after sunset when weather was cooler. In the morning I again tried to find someone to help me, but everyone was booked including Ford. Talked to Spencer at A1 Radiator and he recommended a few shops. After calling a couple and getting nowhere, I called H&H. Pam was immediately in tune with my problem and even though all her bays were full, she said bring it over. I couldn't believe my ears!! Her husband Landon was also immediately helpful and lent me tools to start the repair. With their help, was back on the road by noon!! What could have been a 2 or 3 day nightmare, turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. They even treated me like family!! Pam, Landon, and their entire team ROCK!! I had fan belt issue on my 2013 Ram. They replaced belt and tensioner on my truck. But neglected to fix properly as coolant had sprayed all over engine. Any fool should have noticed and made repairs accordingly. It started loosing coolant 10 miles down the road. When I called to complain they went into defense mode and said "its not our job to go beyond the call of duty." Yes it is their responsibility exactly to put vehicles back on rode fixed. And they practice bait and switch tactics by quoting a lower price and doubling it when finished. I felt cheated by H&H not doing a complete repair. read more

I agree that these are the nicest people. When my 15-year old car broke down on a cross-country trip it was towed to their shop. I was told it would take a few days and the cost was more than the car was worth so I left it there and am giving it to them. The owner helped me to move all my stuff from the car to a motel and to a place where I could get moving boxes so I could take the train home. This place is the best! I was traveling from Oakland, CA on my way back to Denver. I was planning to stay in Elko for the night. As I was exiting the hwy I heard a loud grumble and scrapping sound coming from the right side of the car. I nursed my car to my motel and started looking for places to take my car in the morning. H&H had the best yelp reviews and one of the desk people at the Best Western also recommended them! Steve managed to fit me in between appointments and found that the scary noise was no big deal. It was just a loose splash protector that he took care of easily BUT I also asked him to check out my coolant because it was running a touch hot. It turned out that I had a crack in the top of the radiator! It needed to be replaced ! I was worried because I needed to get to Denver ASAP! Steve's wife, Danielle, managed to find a replacement radiator, not always easy in a small town, and they had me back on the road in less than two hours! Really fantastic!!! My name is Clark Pierson. Last Thursday my Audi broke down very late at night while driving on I-80 from SLC to Sacramento, near Elko. I had to find a hotel and stay the night. For me the worst part was that I needed to be in Sacramento the next evening in order to coach my son's AAU basketball game. Since I did not know anyone in Elko, I took a chance on H & H as they had the best Yelp reviews. Best decision I could have made. Rian Adams dropped everything that he was doing and fixed my car on the spot. Turns our I had some work done by Les Schwab a while back that was careless and faulty. Juanita is WONDERFUL!!!! I was moving across 3 states and my car, pulling my moving trailer, broke down on the side of the freeway passing through Elko. We called my dad to have him check out mechanics real quick. He called Juanita and told her what was going on. She waited AFTER hours for us to arrive. She arranged some awesome rates for us at a nearby hotel. She assured me my trailer would be safe. They fixed my car first thing in the morning and got us back on the road by noon. We had an estimate sheet of what was wrong from the dealership who also never called for our 3rd appt. and I guess my husband misunderstood that they were fixing the truck. Dropped it off and waited ALL DAY. Finally at 4:30 told my husband we were driving back to town (20 minute drive) to get the truck and see what was going on. In 2008 I ordered a rebuilt touring Ford Model B engine from these folk. When it arrived to me in Perth Western Australia the first thing I noticed was an large amount of crack repair in the cylinder block, much of it going down into valve ports. I contacted them and their response was our crack repairs never fail, well these did after about 200 miles in the car, at this time I was in New South wales, the east coast of Australia on my way to a Model A Ford national meet in Bathhurst. I added some irontite crack repair to get my self and the car back to Adelaide, shipped the car back Perth. When it arrived back in Perth I removed the cylinder head to find water leaking out of most of the crack repair, that according to H&H never fails. After contacting them & some serious heated conversations they (H&H) agreed to send me Model A Block with a crankshaft fitted and a set of inserted conrods, for me to move over all other components from the Model B engine, this took months to happen and only happening after being threatened by a friend of mine from Seattle. Anyway when it turned up this block had a large amount of crack repair, not much less than the Model B Block, this engine I installed into my car the crack repair did not fail but I could not trust it so I have built a nice Model B engine myself. In closing these folk at H&H are the most dishonest people I have had the misfortune of dealing with, DON'T USE ANY OF THEIR ENGINES. read more

AWESOME! I went to another shop first, big mistake.. Firstly, they (first shop) quoted me $1400 for the diagnostic, new fuel pump, a tune up, and labor. I told them to go ahead and start and they said it should be done in a day or 2. After 4 days of it being in the shop, I went in to pay and pick up my car only to find out nothing had been done as I did not pay the full bill in advance. I said that we never agreed on that and they went on to insinuate that they did not trust me to pay the bill. When I asked why I never got a phone call about this, he replied "What, I'm supposed to call you everyday?" Excuse me!?! YES! At this point, I'm getting more and more frustrated. Instead of apologizing about the misunderstanding, the employees (mainly a guy named John) continued to yell at me (despite my distressed state, did I mention I am pregnant??). At that point I ask for my keys and tell them I'm going elsewhere (and telling all of my friends to as well). They say, OK but you have to pay for the diagnostic. Angrily I do. I then call around to a few shops and end up talking to Darla from H&H. What a difference!! She was so sweet and told me not to stress about it and that they'd help. I drive my car over there (which would be impossible with a broken fuel pump I find out) and they do a fuel pressure test only to find that it is fine. No low pressure, ie fuel pump is fine and Clack's straight up lied to me. They do a little more sleuthing and discover that it is a simple vacuum leak. $78 and I'm out of there and car is fine. I can't believe that Clack's was going to swindle me out of more than $1300, how do these people sleep at night? H&H was night and day different, awesome service, friendly employees, and no bullsh*t. This shop was a life saver especially if you are traveling alone with your two young daughters and the engine light comes on about 60 miles from Elko while you're on our way home to Chicago. The first thing I have to say is that the owner was so nice on the phone and in person. It's amazing how much stress is avoided by just being nice to people and this shop was the best. They got me in, did a diagnostic and told me it was an oxygen sensor and that I'll be fine until I get home. Now they could have gouged me, they could have told me I needed it replaced but they smiled and charged me $40. As I said, when your in a panic the last thing you need is a shop that will take advantage of you, and trust me those shops exist. This shop is not one of them. If I lived near them they would be my shop of choice. read more

Not happy at all with this company. IF they would have told me that they charge for looking at my vehicle, okay. But they tell me to bring it in, tell me they will check it out and I asked that they call before they do anything. (I bought for my daughter and wanted to know if the spark plugs, air filter, ect needed to be changed.) They call me to let me know of some repairs and tell me it will be $263 so I tell them to go ahead and fix it. They call me back and said they gave me the wrong amount and tell me it will be $518. I told them that was more than I can afford and I will talk with my husband before doing anything-maybe get him to do it! They told me they would change the air filter for $55 and I told them that was too much just for that. NEVER once did they tell me that they were going to charge me for looking at my vehicle! But when I go to pick it up, they tell me it's $68.50 and this is after I wait patiently for 5-10 minutes for her to not only talk on the phone but answer the phone while I stand and wait. It's cool to finish the call your on but not to take additional calls while I wait. I told her that if you were charging me anyways then I would have had you change the filter! She did change the price to $49.50 but never said she could. Stick with dealerships! They MUST tell you everything! read more

The guys working in the shop were very nice and seemed to know what they were doing. They replaced the radiator and front driver hub and rotor on my 2008 Nissan Titan. I paid the bill and continued my journey to salt lake. When I got to salt lake there was an awful screeching sound coming from my driver side tire. I took my car to a mechanic in salt lake and he took one look at my truck and knew immediately that they had installed the wrong parts the hub rotor and assembly were a complete different size from the factory one on the passenger side. He had to replace both the hub and rotor and I had to return the parts that H and H installed back to Napa for a refund while at NAPA I had them check to see if these were the correct parts for my truck because H and H kept insisting they had installed the correct parts. The parts were for a 2006 Nissan Titan and NAPA actually would of had the correct parts if they had asked for 2008 hub and rotor, and actually I wouldn't of had to change the rotors because the old rotor wasn't bad it just didn't fit on the 2006 hub they had installed. So I paid H and H 1200.00 for the radiator and hub. 340.00 of that was the cost for the parts. When I returned the parts to NAPA they credited me 200.00. And I ended up paying the mechanic in salt lake 600.00 to install the correct rotor and hub. After talking with H and H about 6 times on the phone they told me they would send me a check to make it right and only charge me for the cost of the radiator repair. Now a month later my 130.00 check has arrived. So when they say they will make it right that means they are kind enough to give me my money back for the useless parts they installed but I still get to pay for the labor to install the wrong parts and the parts and labor to make it right the next day. I know that sometimes mistakes are made I just appreciate it when a company takes ownership of their mistake and makes it right, these guys fell way short of that in my opinion and now my rant is done and my wallet is empty. read more
