There is truly something for everyone here! Came on a Wednesday which is apparently discount day so tickets were $20. This is an incredibly accessible experience. Mobility scooters available to borrow at the entrance, and also more in the back for those who might change their mind. Benches are located throughout. Maps are available at the front, and in several places throughout. Even though it's a huge building, it is really well organized and easy to navigate through. My wife, daughter, grandkids, and I visited the Historic Auto Museum this week, and we all really enjoyed it. It took us about two hours to go through the entire museum, but if I had been alone, I easily could have spent another hour taking it all in. Wow what a hidden gem. So glad we went. You arrive and you see this big place, I mean long outside and then you go in and see why. It is incredible!! The things that are in there is Phenomenal! I had first heard about this auto museum several months back when WGN TV Channel 9 did a feature story on the place. I came here yesterday with a group and was pleasantly surprised. Great exhibits, a very helpful staff, exceptionally clean including the wash rooms, nice gift shop and very well air conditioned. It took about two hours to view all the exhibits and thankfully they had mobility carts for those of us with leg problems. Highly recommended- Five Stars.... read more

Wow the name is very misleading because it's much more than an auto museum. I'm a car guy so I love car shows and car museums so I thought I would spend a Saturday in IL and do the museum, lunch and any other things that I want to do. The museum is pretty cool because it has cars and historical items from famous people. Tony is a weekend volunteer at the museum who has a passion for sharing his knowledge of all the items in the museum which he will gladly tell you about. The museum has a section dedicated to auto racers from IL with cars, pictures, trophies etc. lots of wax figures of famous people that some look real while some look not as good. The museum has tons of personal items from famous people and lots of presidential items from past presidents on display. The museum has displays from tv and movie shows with cars and figures. They have a space section where you can see inside the space capsules which is cool. You just have to see it for yourself to appreciate it. Just looking at the name you would never know how much cool stuff is in the building and it's a neat place to spend a little time walking around and looking at everything. read more

Very interesting but way to much to see in one day if you look and read some of the captions. Also I recommend better circulation of air, very stuffy in there. We had a hard time finding our way out, so definitely could use some signage on with way to the main exit/entrance. read more

It's very clean inside obviously well taken care of I have 0 complaints about the place I recommend it highly to those who are interested. Our first time here and the place is like they say, 11 out of 10 awesome. Every turn, will bring you to a different time, place and memory triggers. we spent 4 and a half hours and still planing to go back and catch all the videos, and spend a little more time at some of the displays. Tony Farell,Sr. the Chief Historian and his lovely wife stopped, chatted with us and gave me his number if we had any questions. The rest of the staff was also friendly, polite and knowledgeable. On our way out we were met by Wayne Lensing, owner and super nice guy. He even directed us to Jessica's a nearby restaurant that had 4 star food and service. read more

This museum is a hidden gem in our stateline area. I would highly recommend that you go and take your family to this 80k sq ft museum, that has all types of history for you to see and learn about. I was shocked by the sheer amount of cars, presidential white house items, world wide political items, movie memorabilia, religious items, military, gangster and the list just goes on and on. The staff was very friendly, the museum historian was eager to share his extensive knowledge with us and even offered us a personal tour when we come back, customized to what we want to learn more about. When was the last time you received that type of offer from any museum??? We were so impressed we actually purchased a family membership so we could go back again and again. If you haven't been you are missing a local treat. The facilities have several well placed bathrooms, snack areas and a well equipped visitors center. The isles are wide enough to accommodate wheel chairs and strollers. Plenty of onsite parking for your car or tour bus if you want to bring a group. Don't walk but run to learn more about our country and the world. read more

I just learned about the Historic Auto Attractions yesterday on the news and it seemed like a fun adventure. It was more than that.... It was an OUTSTANDING day. It was, as they promised, literally a journey through time. One of the best aspects is that you can arrange a guided tour with Tony - fascinating. I think this should be offered by all of our Chicago and Milwaukee tour companies.... Totally worth the trip. It's an easy drive. The name highlights Autos, but the space is far more than that. Vintage cars are featured from many decades going back to the delivery stage coaches. But, the exhibits all integrated historical events with large scale photos and authentic items, for example gangster memorabilia along with the vehicles, information and statues of U.S. Presidental and the Presidential vehicles. There is even the actual secret service car that drove behind President Kennedy's vehicle on that fated day. And a room dedicated to Jackie Kennedy. And very unusual items from Abe Lincoln. For car buffs there are stock cars, race cars, etc. We were intrigued by the memorabilia from the Old West - reflecting the TV shows and films of our youth - Gunsmoke, the Cisco Kid, John Wayne, and more. Celebrity items were highlighted as well in the Elvis Presley exhibit, Marilyn Monroe memorabilia and so much more. And there is unusual art and artifacts around every corner - a bicentennial car fully coated in US coins and another created entirely out of bumpers. There is something for everyone - NASA, 911, Egypt, historic WW11 artifacts and more. The space, exceptionally clean, is totally accessible for the entire family -- if folks need to use a walker, wheelchair or stroller it is easy to move throughout. They only had about 8-10 cars that I remember but they had a ton of interesting artifacts from JFK, Abe Lincoln, Elvis Presley and more! This should be renamed as the artifacts museum because of the fact that there are 10x more artifacts then cars, but this is still a museum worth visiting! read more

So much more than I expected. Great history lessons and also a wide variety of auto's and and the stories behind each. Told myself I only had about an hour to spend there. It was so interesting and had so many celebrities auto's, famous people's auto's, villains auto's and even Adolph Hitlers car there that I went way past my allotted time. This place was amazing. I wanted to do something cool with my brother and cousins as they all love old cars especially muscle cars. When planning my weekend trip I came across the Historic Auto Attraction. while looking at the website I thought oh ok this is interesting but it was way more than I expected. Like it had old timely gun and knife collections some of which belonged to famous historic people. Each item told its story. the Musuem has clocks, tv, radios and record players showing different eras. Not to mention world leaders and the automobiles they drove. I totally recommend this place for families and it is kid Friendly. It offered something for all ages and has free tour guide. time we'll spend. read more

What a great find in the middle of nowhere! How have I never heard of this place before???? My husband and I only came out to this museum because there was a car show there last weekend. I'm so glad we made the hour trip, because I was blown away by all the actual, documented, REAL artifacts they have here. It's called Historic Auto Museum...but it's SO MUCH MORE. From chairs that Abe Lincoln had in his office, to a dress that Marilyn Monroe wore, to the gun used to kill gangster John Dillinger. There's just SO much to look at. I give this place props for the way the museum is so carefully detailed and the abundance of documented artifacts that they contain. And it's HUGE. It took us a long time to get through all of it and I'm sure I missed something. Trust me...if you love celebrity history, gangster history, presidential history, nazi history, movie history, TV show history, etc., you need to check it out. There's something for everyone. I mean, they have the ACTUAL delorean from 'Back to the Future' and the car from National Lampoon's Vacation. They have the actual Batmobile from the 60s TV show, and 2 of the Batmobiles from the movies! They have Houdini's travel chest and handcuffs. They have the car made for Joseph Stalin that had 3" thick bullet-proof windows. They have the actual funeral program for John F. Kennedy's funeral. They have Elvis' sunglasses, Lincoln, outfits, jewelry, etc. They have Jackie O. Kennedy's veil worn at her husband's funeral. They have Abe Lincoln's wife's veil for his funeral. I mean, the amount of stuff they have is astounding. I told my sister about it last night, and now she wants to make the trip out to visit the museum, and to eat at Pig Minds Brewing Company (If you haven't checked it out too, make a day of going to the museum, and having dinner at Pig Minds - but mind you, it's a plant-based, vegan restaurant/brewery - but delicious even for carnivores!!) If you're a teacher...take your class there. If you're a family of children, take your kids there. If you're a history buff, you should go! If you're a movie buff, you should go! The curator was there the day we were there but I didn't see him. Apparently, he is very careful in making sure everything is real and documented. I can't imagine the hours, months, years that it took to collect all of this! It's $13.00 for adults, but we paid $10 because of the car show. Cheaper for kids, but I don't recall the exact price. My husband and I took some friends to see Historic Auto Attractions in Roscoe Illinois today, and again they didn't disappoint us. This museum has something for everyone. What a great museum. We were planning to go for some time and finally made it here. The title of the museum is misleading since it is much more than an auto museum if you have an interest in history this is a place for you. Our visit was made even more enjoyable by a volunteer researcher named Tony who knows the history of all artifacts and is more than happy to share his knowledge with all in attendance. If you have interest in any of these categories which have a section in the museum -Wild West, Turn of the Century, Gangsters, Famous Cars & Stars, World Leaders,President Kennedy, Movies, WWII and much, much, more. This is a place for you. Definitely would be great for a company or group outing. The museum is just off of I-90 and was an easy drive. We will be back! read more
