Bunch of 608 and Youngblood and some East Coast ones that you will never find in the Twin Cities. There is an attached bar which I have never set foot in until tonight. A must stop when visiting Huddy! Such a cool building with so much history. They have a wonderful selection of unique spirits and even hard to find stuff. Their beer selection is top notch! Too many craft beers to even name. I love that they have singles of beer where you can make your own 4 or 6 pack. A quaint little liquor shop that is packed full of some unique liquors. Don't let the outside fool you they have a huge beer selection as well. There is also a restaurant attached, haven't eating there though. If your camping or staying in the area for vacation it's a good go-to place for your liquor needs. Casanova is such a good beer store that we sometimes take a little road trip from Minnesota to see what there is to see. We are never disappointed. They have a really large selection for such a small store and can fit pretty much any budget or any taste. We generally take the opportunity to stock up on New Glarus while we're there -- you can really never have enough Spotted Cow in the house. And we really enjoy poking around to see what else we can find. We never leave empty-handed, and we always find something unusual and unexpected. For beer freaks, it's really almost paradise. Casanova gets all kinds of beer and not just run-of-the-mill stuff. If you're into craft beer, bring your wallet and come when you have some time to properly browse. One other word on the growler selection. Oh man, talk about craft beer heaven. There is a rapidly rotating list of beers available for growler fills that is truly mind-boggling sometimes. Somehow, Casanova manages to get 3 Floyds from Chicago and a number of other beers that we consider real treats. Love that there is a resident dog a labradoodle named Stella....well this liquor store is close to my new digs and it looked pretty dang cool sitting up against a big rock wall so I felt inclined to wander on in. The guys there are nice and did not get all up in my business like some liquor stores tend to do when you are just browsing. it has a cave like feel which was perfect for the Halloween season. big selection on hard liquor and wines. Great beer selection, great wine selection and a must stop for me every time I pass through Hudson or am forced to cross the river from MN on Sundays due to a combination of poor planning and archaic laws. Their beer selection runs the gamut from domestic macros to hard to find craft beers. Additionally, they'll also fill growlers from a rotating stock of keg beers they have available (not uncommon to find Fitger's, some limited release New Glarus, etc.). Prices are reasonable, the staff are consistently friendly and if you're feeling peckish you can stop in the wine bar next door for a bite and libations - it's places like Casanova's that make me miss living in Wisconsin. read more

Ahh, I miss Casanova Liquor. Once a pre-prohibition brewery, Casanova is now a liquor store and restaurant. I've never been to the restaurant. With that said, they were the first liquor store I've been to that had a rapid beer/wine chilling machine, and it was so cool! You take a lukewarm beer and put it in the machine (the machine that kind of looks like a swimsuit dryer, lol) and after about one minute, your beer is ICE COLD throughout. I still need one of those awesome things. I always drove from St. Paul to Hudson for the beautiful view of the St. Croix River and my Sunday case of beer. The employees have always been welcoming, helpful, and efficient. This store is the closest to St. Paul and in a beautiful area of Hudson. Prices are slightly higher than other places but between the Sunday drive, the rapid cooler, and the store's history, Casanova will always be a favorite. read more

So, there are plenty of good liquor stores with awesome selections in MN. You know what you can't get in those stores though? Spotted Cow. Or any of New Glarus's tasty tasty beers. You don't have to go far, literally right on the other side of the river off 94, you will find Casanova. The beer selection is impressive, and knowing their clientele, they even helpfully label select beers "Not available in MN", hah. You can even get growlers filled there! How it works I am not 100% sure, but something to note for next time. They are attached to their own bar/restaurant as well, although we didn't partake during our stop. If you're looking for some unique beers that you can't get in MN but don't want to go far, Casanova's is just about 30 minutes outside of the cities. read more

Thank god Wisconsin knows people don't stop drinking on Sundays. Several times I've been headed back from Wisconsin, out of beer, and realized it's Sunday. Quick, take the last exit in Wisconsin on 94! (Or first exit if you're making a Bee Double Ee Double Are You En.) They know they are the place to go if you are from Minnesota. Vikings and Twins paraphernalia adorn their building along with Brewers and Packers. I think Casanova might be the one spot the rivalries are put aside, and Minnesotans and Wisconsinites remember what they have in common- A love of Beer. It kind of feels like Minnesota is a 20 year old, and Wisconsin is the cool 21 year old friend who buys you beer. I'm okay visiting my drinking buddy neighbors to the east, tossing aside the hate, and living down to the alcoholic perceptions the other states have of the two of us. (Side Note: This is the closest place to find New Glarus from Minneapolis. Someday the factory will be able to bring it to Minnesota.) read more

No one told me about Sunday liquor laws in Minnesota when I agreed to move out here from NYC. It was a cold shower of reality, and luckily Casanova has saved me a few times. The best part of driving out to Casanova on a Sunday is that: a. the beer selection makes you feel like you're in the best Oregon brew pub b. the wine selection makes you feel like you're in the best San Francisco wine bar Their staff is great. They have the great pleasure of being right over the border and for selling spirits to Minnesotans to ease the pain of a Vikings loss. I realize I am a lower review here than most, and this low review has nothing to do with the service here, which I have found to be consistently solid. My low review is entirely attributable to their beer selection and prices. As a Minnesotan, I can't get all the delicious and wonderful beers that are available in Wisconsin, so I make a trip to Hudson about every other month for some fun beers. My first stop is Chicones and my second (and last) is Casanova. I have found that Chicones has consistently better prices and better selection (I can often find Three Floyds at Chicones, and never have at Casanova). There is also more cold beer at Chicones. Casanova certainly has more character, and like I said, has consistently great service, but looking through the beer-only lens, I have to give lower marks. read more

Every once in awhile, I'll make a run to Hudson for beer. This will be for one of two reasons: 1) It's a Sunday and well you know the MN liquor laws 2) I need to restock on New Glarus My top spots are Chicone's and here, Casanova. Even though one of the reasons above are my motivators to trek all the way out here, these two liquor stores are top notch in terms of craft beer selection. Overall, Chicone's is a little cheaper but Casanova has a better selection of single bottle craft brews. What used to be the best spot to fill my growlers, is now a sad joke. This should be a five star rating. I don't understand why I get charged more money for using a stainless steel growler. Clerk told me, and I quote, "Sometimes we over pour them and spill the beer." So your staff spills beer and I get an up charge for it. Not very cool. 64 oz is about 10-20 bucks, how much are you guys spilling? Myself and many others I know will not support this place due to this unfair penalization for undertrained staff. The lack of liquor sales in MN on Sundays is downright dumb. Jesus was a partier, he wouldn't have approved of it. Whatever, without that law, I probably never would have found this gem. Solid beer selection, fair prices, sells on Sunday. Everything you need. Plus they have a lot of beers that are difficult or impossible to get in MN. New Glarus, Capital, Dogfish Head , Three Floyds, etc. On a side note, if you're a Minnesotan making the trip, be aware that it is illegal to transport more than a liter of liquor, or 288ozs of "fermented malt beverages" across state lines. Casanova Liquor was once home to the Casanova Brewery; in fact, the caves used to store the beer are still used. Ask one of the people who work there about it. GREAT beer selection with the largest "by the bottle" selection I've seen. Great to visit if you live in MN as they have a number of beers we can't get (Bear Republic, Three Floyds, Oskar Blues, New Glarus to name a few). I come to Casanovas for several reasons. One reason is that it is on the way to my house. Now that doesn't mean a ton seeing as there are three others even closer to me that I never visit. I visit Casanova because it not only has an amazing wine selection and beer selection but everyone really seems to know their stuff here. They seem to genuinely want to help guide me in my quest of a delicious glass of wine. They sell you what they have for a good price and with it a good value. The First time I went to Casanova's was on orders from my Hubby not to bother return home from WI with out Spotted Cow. (I think he was joking, but I have not chanced it) The beer selection is truly superior. Including a section called Not available in Minnesota. That isn't what really makes Casanova's great. It's the service. They have a huge amount of knowledge hidden in those over crowded aisle. Just ask for help and the eyes light up. They can help you pair wine with food, they can also help you pair beer with food or liquor. They could give a class on they different types of fermentation. (I have heard them explaining what an ale is for example) They do all of this while keeping a WI casual no pressure atmosphere. Warning parking can be limited on Sunday and there are no indoor bathrooms. Porta pottys outside. So if you have to go stop somewhere before you get there or hold it. Unless you happen to be a cyclist and are use to that type of accommodation. read more
