I have decided not to stay there, so I called to release the room and the woman answering the phone not only put me on hold, rudely and abruptly, tells me, "Nobody was going to call, if you didn't get the email then you don't have a room." I said, "This could have been very upsetting if I was calling to make payment, and the room wasn't held for me, because I was told I would get a call." Instead of saying, "I am so sorry Ma'am, I don't know who told you this but I assure you we will make sure the other reservationists know not to tell people this, and that to be sure to have you look for an email." But instead she was RUDE and so I hung up. GOOD GRIEF! She needs an attitude adjustment. She shouldn't be on the phones. She's impolite. She doesn't realize that people view the Dow Hotel by the treatment they receive and it starts at the beginning, ....at the front desk.

No floor mat; no bench (a must); no place to put towel; no place to put clean clothes; no place to put anything; floor all wet after shower (bare feet on god-knows-what). Shower aimed at open curtain so HAD to get into shower lest everything got sprayed before temperature was adjusted. After shower, ZERO ventilation so worse than a sauna - instant sweat. Also, HIGHEST price of all options along Hwy 395. Other person said her shower was awful - water never mixed/adjusted. It was either all hot or all cold water. BAD plumbing. Outside the showers, in mixed-gender area, plenty of room after shower. But zero privacy so had to undress/dress in tiny shower cubicle (about 2x3ft space). MUCH BETTER SHOWER at Mammoth - "Camp High Sierra" ... very pleasant and spacious BUT have to drive almost 2 hours just to get there.

First issue, they are renovating the first floor for which I have no issue. The problem? You need to post that online BEFORE folks make reservations. I have mobility issues and there is no elevator. I had to drag my heavy luggage up narrow stairs...very painful. Second issue, problems with their key cards...lots of trouble getting into my room with the digital key cards. Very frustrating. Third issue: their pool is closed in the middle of the hot summer. Post that online BEFORE folks visit and book on your website! Even if it's only temporarily closed. Fourth issue, the water was turned off for over 2 hours during the middle of the day for maintenance. Very inconvenient! Lone Pine is a beautiful little town with charming restaurants but not sure if I can recommend this hotel based on my most recent experience.

Finally was able to fall back asleep around 5am, only to be woken up 30 mins or so later from a VERY loud yelling and shouting phone conversation. Not sure if its worse not being able to understand the conversation, or not. But when we knocked to ask them to be quieter, they came to stand next to the wall to speak even louder! WTF? Lone Pine, CA is one of the most adorable country towns. Its so sad someone would purchase a business and then take no pride in it or the community it belongs in.

We took a room with a shared bath and shower down the hallway. The room itself was nice, we love old historical things. This was in March, still below freezing outside. When we entered the room, the heat was stifling. I was able to shut off the steam radiator, and opened the window In spite of that, the room was almost unbearable all night. The radiator was cold in the morning, so that was not the souce. The room was on the second floor, maybe the rooms below are super hot? The lobby has historic photos of John Wayne and others The shared shower was clean, and we didn't have a wait at 8 AM. Be ware, the tile floor is like ice when it is wet. The room had a sink, so you can brush your teeth and wash your face. A must see is the Western Film Museum, on the other side of the street. Great breakfast at Mount Whitney Cafe across the street. I also highly recommend Seasons Resturant Good steak at very reasonable prices. Would I stay at the Portal Hotel again? Probably not. The room temperature led to very little sleep.

This was perfect for my plan to take some stunning photographs. The Timberline was my base camp for two days and allowed me very central access to my planned (and unplanned) shots. This is a truly beautiful part of the country with so many sights to see. Manzanar, the Bristlecone Pine National Forest, Alabama Hills movie settings, portal to My. Pros: This place is a very well kept roadside motel. It's super clean. There have been renovations…read moresuch as shutters on the windows, new bathroom counters and fixtures, a new desk, and what looks like new carpet. The owners/employees are friendly and helpful. It's quiet despite being on the main road. Cons: The cleaning product they use is way too strongly scented, despite my poor sense of smell. I opened the windows and front door and ran the fans for about 20 minutes but it wasn't helpful. The toilet looked sudsy so I flushed that, hoping it would help. Nope. The worst part is, my eyes burn because of it. Reading or watching TV is out because my eyes tear up so much when they are open. So I took a nice walk up to the museum to get away from it, leaving my room windows open and the bathroom fan running. This has only happened to me once before in my entire life: when I spent a day in Fresno when they had an AQI of 149. That day, going inside a nice restaurant stopped the burning, so I knew it was the air outside. Lone Pine's AQI today is 8, so it's the air quality INSIDE the room here, not outside. Editing to add: 2nd day the smell decreased quite a bit, 3rd day it was gone. I've stayed here before with noticing any cleaning product smell. I'd chance it again

It was recently updated with new carpet, lighting, and bathroom fixtures. There was a fridge and flat screen TV, as well as WiFi (a necessity in this area). They had the AC blasting when we walked in ... a little touch for which we were grateful. They have a pool ... we didn't use it so I'm not sure if it's heated. Before leaving we were pleased to see a nice ice machine to fill our ice chest. No bottled water in the room but the tap water is seriously great (not like back home... here the tap water is crisp and without a bad taste).

The hot water in the shower lasted 15 minutes. How should someone wash themselves in 15 minutes after a big hike? What if I need to take a bath? Not enough soap and shampoo. There is not enough parking. Some guests had 2 cars for one unit, and they took 2 spots. So, if you come late, you will be forced to park on the street. It's unfair.
