I thought this place was going to be some nasty roach motel in a one horse town. Wow, was I wrong. Firstly, Lone Pine is a pleasant little town, used by extraordinarily fit individuals with no life insurance intent on hiking up Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States, sorry Mountain Shasta. Lone Pine is also a base camp for movie crews. But I digress. Dow Villa is a magnificent little hotel. It is extremely clean with well-maintained rooms, with a friendly and attentive staff, from Yolanda and Ariel to Billy and Benjamin. Price was insanely low. The cost of my stay was less than the cost of 4 Fiji waters at the MGM Grand in Vegas. I could not have been happier. My road trip was a continuation from Los Angeles to Reno, though I stopped in Lone Pine prior to visiting Manzanar, 10 miles to the north, the site of an infamous interment camp for Americans of Japanese ancestry during WWII, a heartbreaking chapter in American history. Whether you're hiking, movie producing, or revisiting history, stay at Dow Villa. Also, as a bonus, there are no more insects in California because I apparently hit them all with my SUV.

This has been my best stay in Lone Pine after several stops. Other times I've stayed at a chain motel. I spent the night in one of the hotel's historic rooms. Cool experience. Room is quaint and comfortable and has a nice feel to it.

Excellent value! We stayed in one of the 1 story buildings, updated, clean, like new. Had everything we needed. Loved being able to drive up to the door to unload.

Looks like an old-school motel from the outside; but inside, the rooms are modern, spotless, and nicely decorated.

Do they have long term parking for guest backpacking JMT?

Yes! Long-term parking is $25 per week. You can pay at the front desk.

    Do rooms have air conditioners?

All the rooms are air conditioned! The newer motel rooms have individual units which you can control while the hotel has one huge unit which cools the building. You have no control over the temperature in the hotel. While we were there our motel…

It looked like it had recently been renovated. The paint and carpet looked new. There was a fridge, micrwave and coffee maker with a large flat screen on the wall at the foot of the bed. The bathroom is all new, wtih granite bathtub surround. The hot water was very hot and strong water preassure. The room was reasonably quiet. It sits right on the highway, but the traffic noise was muted. The owner was very pleasant. The best part was the price. $66 for my wife and I. About the chapest price in town. If you are passing through and just need a room for the night, this would be my recommendation.

The fridge didn't work, which we didn't realize until we had to throw away $60+ in fruit and juices. The shower wouldn't drain and found rolled up tissues in the bed. If all that wasn't enough to complain to management, he woke us up at 4am singing (praying) for an hour in the room next to us where it seems theyre living. Finally was able to fall back asleep around 5am, only to be woken up 30 mins or so later from a VERY loud yelling and shouting phone conversation. Not sure if its worse not being able to understand the conversation, or not. But when we knocked to ask them to be quieter, they came to stand next to the wall to speak even louder! WTF? Lone Pine, CA is one of the most adorable country towns. Its so sad someone would purchase a business and then take no pride in it or the community it belongs in.

It's quiet despite being on the main road. Cons: The cleaning product they use is way too strongly scented, despite my poor sense of smell. I opened the windows and front door and ran the fans for about 20 minutes but it wasn't helpful. The toilet looked sudsy so I flushed that, hoping it would help. Nope. The worst part is, my eyes burn because of it. Reading or watching TV is out because my eyes tear up so much when they are open. So I took a nice walk up to the museum to get away from it, leaving my room windows open and the bathroom fan running. This has only happened to me once before in my entire life: when I spent a day in Fresno when they had an AQI of 149. That day, going inside a nice restaurant stopped the burning, so I knew it was the air outside. Lone Pine's AQI today is 8, so it's the air quality INSIDE the room here, not outside. Editing to add: 2nd day the smell decreased quite a bit, 3rd day it was gone. I've stayed here before with noticing any cleaning product smell. I'd chance it again
