I will say it's a small theater with limited seating. If you come later, there's a chance you'll have to stand for a show. It does get a bit stuffy and hot on some nights, but seeing people try out improv is worth it. There seems to be a lot of various classes to take including, but not limited to, improv, comedy, and puppetry. It is fun to see big productions like Cats or Phantom of the Opera on Broadway or in larger venues, but it is more engaging to sit 15-20 feet from the stage and feel as if you are part of the action. We tried the Curious Theatre for the first time this fall, and loved their production of "The Minutes" (always enjoy Tracy Letts). We returned for the wonderful production of "Letters to Suresh" as well a month later. The theater uses an old church so every seat is great, street parking is easy, and there are fun food options within a block - we enjoyed Zeps Epic Sandwiches and Torchys Tacos, coffee at Cherry Bean Coffee, and will try Eiskaffee on our next visit. Definitely worth a visit!

There are exposed brinks all over Civic Theater and a cash bar. Holla! The Blackbox has been remodeled to look like a salon setting in the 1900s with table seating up front and movie theater style seating in the rear. They are showing two shows a night here. The first is called Leadville or Bust and features Reyna von Vett and her three "Hell's Belles" performing burlesque from the turn of the century. This isn't burlesque like you'll find down at Lannie's though - there's a lot less nudity. As they explain burlesque at that time was a lot more like a vaudeville show. There is tons of singing and dancing and double entendres in the songs and jokes. It's definitely a lot of fun. This show starts at 7 and lasts about 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. They play Thursday through Saturday and tickets are $25. The next show starts at 10 and this is the infamous Burlesque As It Was show that many of us have seen around town. Vivienne Va Voom and her fellow entertainers have found a new home to shimmy and sashay around the stage. And it is definitely entertainment at its finest. These shows play Friday and Saturday nights and are $15. So, go on a Friday and see a double header. How's that for a double entendre?

It is an Australian film from the 1980's on their large main screen about a aging drag queen going to Alice Springs from Sydney for a gig. The screen and sound system could handle the visual image with excellent sound. Last week, I saw "Moonlight" about gay black culture in Miami. The movie won the 2016 Academy Award for best picture. It was shown in one of the two upper screens. No issues. The floors were clean.

They have 6 rows of padded seats on both sides of the performance space for this production. This play was titled Willy/Nicky based on historical correspondence between Kaiser Wilhem of Germany and Czar Nicholas of Russia (both were cousins and grandchildren of Queen Victoria of England). It covers the time period before, during and after World War I. It included the "Mad Monk" Rasputin. Lots of sexual innuendo with Rasputin portrayed as a draq queen. A funny and thought provoking play.

Inside, the offerings range from the more conventional like pottery, hand-drawn cards and candles. To the more unique like hand-drawn figures overlaid with real flowers and butterfly wings. In the very back, they have an extended area of art along with a limited but healthy selection of plants - today, I spotted a rare albo type. And of course, lots of Colorado-themed pieces, our favourite! The owner, Lauren, was super friendly and knowledgeable about all the artists she supports in her store, with fun anecdotes about the artists themselves or how pieces were developed. My favourites were block prints by an artist named Jini Kimchi and sculptures made from home-grown cordyceps spores (I forget the artist's name but will add here later). It's awesome that this store makes art so accessible, and what a great go-to for gifts!
