First time staying here and it was better than we thought it would be. Clean, well appointed rooms and a great second floor deck facing the street to have coffee of cocktails on. Especially liked being able to open the windows and feeling the fresh air and breezes after stays in hermetically sealed hotel rooms. Although we didn't get a chance to check it out, the bar looks great and by all accounts, the food is very good. Dave, the Owner, was very helpful at checkin, explaining how to use the A/C unit, access code for after hours and WiFi code. Having grown up in the area, the highest complement I can give is the stay reminded me of being at my Mother's house in the past...comfy and cozy as she used to say. read more

We were passing through town and this place was recommended to us. Our initial encounter with the lady who sat us was very unpleasant. First she asked us if we had reservations and we said no, she then asked us how many in our party and I told her five and she sarcastically said, "and you don't have reservations". She acted bothered and then said well we can sit you in the back. She proceeded to walk us to the back and she begrudgingly said well I have to set up a table for you. Thank goodness our server, Angie, quickly came to offer assistance. She had a smile on her face and was very friendly. When you first walk in, you are in the tavern. They had live music at 6:00 and most of the tables were reserved. And now the good part!! The food was very good. Angie advised us of the specials of the day. We ordered one of the specials which was a generous portion of Haddock stuffed with shrimp and crab. It was cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of flavor. It was served atop a bed of rice with a cream sauce and cooked spinach on the side. It came with a salad and a role. We also ordered the salmon and that was also cooked perfectly and was delicious. I heard a rumor that this place is going to be sold. The current proprietors are looking to retire and move on with their lives. That said, it's a really cool, historic spot. I walked around to check out some of the other spaces outside of the restaurant area and I love that they have kept so many of the historical facets and spaces alive. In the meantime, I really had no idea that a "taco Tuesday" in Broadalbin would actually be something to talk about! First thing to note is portion size. Gigantic. We all had leftovers. A LOT of leftovers. And while it might not be real "traditional" Mexican food, the quality was excellent. Food was nice and hot; our server was very friendly. The only glitch we hit: the iced tea tasted terrible. Not sure what happened there, but the rest of the meal made up for that. I have no idea what the rooms are like or how it is as a hotel, but if you live nearby, you might want to stop by for a nice meal. We could tell that lots of regulars go there. We've been dining at the Broadalbin Hotel for many years, and for the most part, we find our experiences consistently good ...aside from the occasional kitchen slowness when dining room is busy. My neighbor mentioned they got a new chef last summer and reportedly creativity & quality has notched up. Based our most recent experience, I would agree! I tried the chicken parm which was very good. As usual, service was friendly and prompt. Also notable is that the Hotel typically has a nice selection of draft beers. read more

So disappointed again and this will be the last time. We always sit at the bar with our friends. Server took our order first and then the other couples we were with. It was about 6:15p or so. Another couple came in after us and sat at the end of the bar. They got their order first! Which surprised everyone because the kitchen can be slow especially on Mexican night. One by one all of our friends got their food while we sat there waiting. And waiting and waiting. My husband ordered a soup appetizer which should have come out before anyone else's food! The server just kept saying she couldn't understand what happened. Well, we know what happened. She gave our dinners to the other couple (they ordered the same exact entrees) and never put our order in. Rather than apologize for her mistake, she kept blaming the kitchen, which was not cool. Everyone finished their dinners and I finally asked another server for our check and to forget about the food. It was going for 7:30p. That's right about the time she showed up with our food. I told her to forget it, but my husband said we would take it to go. This is not the first time we have had poor service here which stinks because the atmosphere is very nice. read more

Ambiance is nice. Beautifully restored building. Have eaten there 3 times and dissatisfied each time. Last year I had a meatloaf dinner. The meatloaf was so salty I could only eat 4 bites. I'm at fault because each time I neglected to make the owners aware of the problem. The last time I ate there I ordered a hot Turkey sandwich. It wasn't served on bread but on a top and bottom piece of a sub roll which was burnt. The turkey was from the deli somewhere and it was covered in beef gravy. Visited this place while staying in an Airbnb nearby. This is a historic building with detailed charm and beauty. Deep rich wood floors and stair railings, beautiful ceilings and a grand porch with rocking chairs. Just beautiful. The restaurant serves unique and flavorful gourmet meals accompanied by a well curated wine selection. They also have a very fun and cozy bar area that serves handcrafted cocktails, beer and wine. Everyone here is warm, friendly and inviting. This is a locals favorite. They have a exquisite grand dining area for special events which looks like a small palace dining hall. The hotel is open for stays by reservation. I have not stayed but what I can say is the restaurant and bar are a must try when in the area. read more

My friends and I fell upon this place and decided to try it based on curbside appeal; not our best decision. The setting is quaint and clearly a "local" hangout. There were more than a few folks in from the golf course and on dinner meetings or dates. There were families and singles at the bar all appearing to enjoy themselves. I was hopeful at first, since generally local places don't last unless they serve good food. We were seated right away and since it was Mexican night my feeling was "what could go wrong?", well basically a lot. The drinks were fine and came out right away. We proceeded to order chips and salsa- (which was disappointingly bottled not fresh) and the Mexican offerings (Veggie quesadilla, Fish tacos and Chicken wings). And then we basically sat there for over an hour. When the food finally did come (we had debated leaving enough to cover the drinks and just walk) it was breathtakingly average. The Veg quesadilla was warm but virtually tasteless and covered in an unidentifiable cheese, my friend who got the Fish tacos said they were "ok, but not tasty" with soggy taco shells. Our third party member who got the wings ended up waiting another 15 minutes then they brought out less than the number advertised, warm, not hot and spicier than she had ordered them. Then the server was surprised when she pointed this out. Possibly this establishment serves better food on other nights. My advice at present is: have a drink and admire the attractive old fashioned setting but don't stay to eat unless you aren't especially hungry and you have lots of time to waste. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Carriage house for a weekend for my friends wedding in Mayfield. The accommodations were more than satisfactory. The room was very clean and well decorated, felt very homey and cozy. The owners made sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. The food was very good and service was impeccable. Restaurant review only: I'll start by saying two other parties were seated after us and both finished their dinners and left before we got our food which was only a pizza, calzone and a sandwich. We started off with cocktails, one of which came with a dash of glass shards (really). Our server was pleasant but forgot a number of items we had requested, brought something we hadn't ordered, and spent most of the time apologizing. The owner must have walked past our table at least a half dozen times and saw how long we were waiting. You would think he'd stop by and check on us, but no, he just walked on by while eating a bowl of ice cream. At long last, our food finally arrived and the calzone and white pizza were pretty good but the turkey sandwich was dry. This place needs better management. As other reviews have stated this isn't an in & out dining experience but the service was friendly & accurate. They seemed to possibly need more staff as they were working quickly & constantly. The food was some of the best we have had in all our travels. The seafood (shrimp & fish) were cooked to perfection. We dined there during the summer and wish we lived closer as we crave the meals we had. The ambiance was nice & comfortable, slightly amusing as we were seated near a mirror with a taxidermy bear over my shoulder so every time I looked up I could see it peering at me. We had an acquaintance tell us how good the food was here. That always gets me curious. We tried to go a few weeks ago on a Wednesday around 615. It was packed. No parking spots and no tables. We left and set a date to return. Any restaurant that is packed on a wed night has to have something good going on. This past wed we went early. We got there around 520ish. This place is easy to find, it is right on the main drag in broadalbin. There is plenty of parking in the lot around the hotel. Remember, when you walk in, this is a historic building. Its very old and has that old building feel and smell. When you walk the in front doors it is a bit confusing on where to go or who to see. We found a server and were seated right away. They have live music on wed night that starts at 6. Within 20 minutes this place was packed and it was standing room only. Our server came over right away. Drinks came quickly and the menu had a good selection of choices. We got calamari to start and a side salad. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for the calamari to come out. It was very good. Perfectly cooked, not chewy. The side salad came in a small bowl and the house Italian dressing was also very good. It was creamy and on the sweet side. For dinner I got the salmon salad with honey mustard dressing. I was not a fan of the dressing. Very thick and mustardy. Rick got the pork chop special. The pork chop was 5 stars. very tender and juicy. Dinner came quickly after the appetizer. Almost to fast, we were not done with the appetizer. Now, by 610 you can not hear yourself think in here. It was incredibly loud. From the live music and the people talking over the music. Once we were done with dinner we left immediately. We didn't stay for more music due to the noise. We would definitely go back here. We would not go on a wed night due to noise levels with live entertainment. If your in broadalbin I recommend on giving this place a try. read more

Impromptu Birthday getaway for my love brought us to the Historic Broadalbin Hotel. Very comfortable room reminiscent of our stays at the Mount Washington Hotel but at 1/3 the cost. Dinner at the Tavern/Pub was an unexpected Delight! Our appetizers of Butternut Squash soup and crab cakes arrived piping hot and delicious. We both ordered the special Tenderloin Tips and shrimp on a bed of wild rice with spinach covered with a Dijon sherry cream sauce that was amazing! My friend and I stayed the night here with our kids. We were able to get the rooms that connected. Rooms 4 and 5. The bed in room 5 is amazing! It was so soft with a firmness to it and extremely comfortable and this isn't just because I have been sleeping on a cot in a tent for the past two weeks. Delicious meal on Saturday evening with group of 8. All got different items, everyone raved about what they ordered. I had a large pork chop that melted in your mouth, and the side of fried potato salad was unique and outstanding! Also got a tour of the upstairs rooms from the owner and I was more than pleasantly surprised - they are each done in their own flair appointed with period antiques. My husband and I were looking for somewhere new in the area to go and gave it a try. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the bar with the propane stoves making it cozy on a cold night. We started with the cheese plate, which was delicious and reasonably priced. We also got the Kennyetto clams, which were fair. We both ordered the strip steak and they were cooked to perfection.
