The space is stunning, the vibes are high, the service is top-tier, the cocktails are creative and delicious, and the food was outstanding. I may be biased, Mediterranean is my favorite but the flavors and presentation were truly beyond compare. I only wish I had room to try more! There were so many dishes on the menu I wanted to order, but sadly, there's only so much room. We shared the grilled halloumi and charred carrots. My husband had the Branzino special, and I had the lamb gyro. Every dish was absolutely delicious. But the only thing I managed to photograph was THE most creative cocktail special I've ever had the privilege of trying, thanks to Colin. Came on a busy Saturday dinner party of 5 without a reservation. The hostess was so kind. They were able to find us a table, only caveat is that it was in the vault room. And quite frankly, that was a cool area. You could snap a photo inside the giant safe. The restaurant used to be a bank. So think high windows, high ceilings, open space with beautiful tile flooring. The food did not disappoint. We had a mix of their lamb and seafood dishes. They gave a great twist to the predominantly Mediterranean menu. The cocktails were crafted wonderfully. I don't write reviews often, but after our experience at Mila's last night I really wanted to take the time to write one. We went for my mom's birthday because Mila's is her favorite. I've been to their other restaurants multiple times but had never been to Mila's, and I was a little nervous about bringing my 8-year-old son. He has special needs, a very restricted diet and severe apraxia of speech, which can make him very difficult for people who don't know him to understand. The day before our reservation, I messaged Mila's because I couldn't find a kids menu posted. I explained our situation and asked if they offered anything for children. I also told them that if there wasn't anything he would eat, I was completely fine bringing food for him and paying a plate fee if necessary. I honestly expected a quick yes or no. Instead, they responded almost immediately and could not have been kinder. They asked if he had any allergies, explained the options they had for children, gave me a list of additional things they could get from their other restaurant, and even asked if there was something else he liked that they could possibly make for him. I had mentioned that we were coming for my mom's birthday, and they asked her name because they wanted to do something special for her. When we arrived, there was a birthday card waiting for my mom. We opened our menus and "Happy Birthday *****!" was printed across the top, which all of us thought was so fun. Then we noticed a brand-new Star Wars coloring book and crayons waiting at the table for my son. He was SO excited and it kept him busy almost the entire time we were there. At one point someone brought over a hand-drawn Star Wars picture with his name on it. We were told the hostess is an artist and had drawn it especially for him. He absolutely loved it. He made sure I put it safely in my purse before we left and it is now sitting on the table next to his bed. As much as all of that meant to us, what stood out to me the most was how he was treated. My son has only recently started ordering for himself. Because of his apraxia, it can take him a while to get his words out and strangers often have a difficult time understanding him. Our waitress looked directly at him when he spoke, waited patiently for him to finish and gave him the opportunity to answer for himself. That may seem like a very small thing, but as his mom, it isn't. This was also a very busy Saturday night. The restaurant was packed, yet somehow we never felt rushed. From the hostess, to our waitress, to the people bringing water and clearing the table, everyone we interacted with was wonderful. And the food absolutely lived up to everything I've heard about Mila's. I somehow managed to take zero pictures of it, but our entire dinner and dessert were phenomenal. I want to be clear that I would never expect a restaurant to go to these lengths for us. I don't expect special treatment or for a restaurant to make something that isn't on its menu. That's actually what made everything they did so incredibly thoughtful. Families with special-needs children sometimes avoid certain restaurants because we're not sure our child will eat anything or how the experience will go. We used to go out to dinner all the time, but over the years it became harder and harder, and eventually we pretty much stopped except for birthdays and special occasions. Last night reminded me how enjoyable going out to dinner can actually be. And probably the best review I can give Mila's came from my son himself. The first thing he said when he woke up this morning was: "Dinner was good last night!" Thank you to everyone at Mila's for making my mom's birthday so special and for making our entire family feel so welcome. This was my second time at Milas. The restaurant is gorgeous, so well curated down to the glassware. I highly recommend sitting at the bar, we had excellent service from the bartender, he was so kind and helpful. The cocktails this evening were incredible. I loved both versions of the dirty martinis I ordered, and the espresso martini was also perfect. You can tell the care they put into the cocktail menu, with the hand stuffed olives and the washed liquors, all the cocktails were heavenly. I didn't review my first visit because we had issues with the food. We decided to return again; sit at the bar and enjoy some cocktails and just order some apps. We ordered the hummus again, which we enjoyed the first visit, so good! The crispy chickpeas are great. Unfortunately everything else was so lackluster. I want to love it here. It's gorgeous. The cocktails are great! I frequent Proctors, so I am in this area all the time. The food is just not doing it for me. Under seasoned crab dish with odd flavor pairings, completely burnt and rubbery chicken hidden under the Caesar salad. The croquettes were good, but the dish was tiny! The entrees served on my first visit had lobster shells in nearly every bite, so we didn't order anything with lobster on this visit either. I gave it another shot. It doesn't do it for me. This review is: see Roger K's review. Everything he said is accurate. We even ordered three of the same dishes. Being vegheads, though, we added in the cheese croquettes and the spinach pide on top of the mussels, charred carrots, and blistered shishitos, sharing a total of five small plates or sides, which was just the right amount for two people. This is hands down the best restaurant in Schenectady, and as far as I can tell, the entire Capital District (although we've tried fewer places in Saratoga, to be sure). Either add a sixth star here, or put an asterisk next to all my other five star reviews. The cuisine is -- dare I say it -- original. It's sort of Turkish-inspired but only the way a painter might look at a palette and be inspired to make some new picture in a brand new style. Same colors, but combined with things in unusual ways. The one thing that was really familiar to me was the spinach pide, which reminded me of the spinach pies I used to get at the Middle Eastern Bakery in Cleveland, Ohio, when I was a teen. The same delicious dough, the same absolutely delightfully prepared spinach, but with cheese and herbal accents thrown in. I even ventured to try one of their rather complex custom cocktails, the Sheba, which was very botanical -- almost like a cross between a bourbon-based Rusty Nail and Chartreuse. Nosy, not bitter but not sweet, plenty of complexity. I was quite shocked, and it -- weird to say -- paired with the rather mixed cuisine of having lots of smaller plates quite well. I don't know if this was pure accident or by design, but hell, I'll take it. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the food, because I was too busy enjoying it. Some things transcend pictures, anyway. As Roger noted, the service was exquisite -- fast and impeccable, just shy of being hovering. And we vibed big time on the ambiance and decor -- they kept the best parts of the old Schenectady Savings Bank and turned it into a unique space. Let me say right up front that this was probably the best meal I've had in the region in the last five years. When we made our reservation we did not realize that we would be coinciding with Schenectady's Restaurant Week. We let the hostess know that we were only interested in the regular menu. The renovations to the old bank with high ceilings and marble floors were corporate looking but still welcoming, modern, professional, and attractive. The Mediterranean menu offers a very large variety of dishes across the categories of Dips, Pide, Small Plates, Salads, Platters, Plates, and Sides. Small plates and sides are large enough to share yet small enough for two people to sample a nice variety of different tastes. While we studied the menu we started with a bottle of sparkling Saratoga Water ($8). As we narrowed down the dishes we were interested in trying, my wife ordered a YPB mocktail ($13) consisting of ghia apertif, cucumber, yuzu, citrus, and n/a prosecco. I ordered a draft Allagash White ($8). I requested the side of Blistered Shishito Peppers ($13) to be served as an appetizer. This was an outstanding presentation as the perfectly grilled and blistered peppers were served over amba sauce and topped with urfa chili oil and crumbled feta cheese. Absolutely delicious! My wife ordered two small plates and a side for her main course. She requested the Manti ($18) to be served with the tomato sauce on the side. These beef short rib dumplings were full of flavor, especially the one that I tried with the tomato sauce poured on top. Her Moroccan Mussels ($17) were perfectly cooked with each shell opened and the mollusks tender and tasty in a broth of harissa, confit garlic, shallots, cream, and parsley. The accompanying thick, airy, grilled focaccia was perfect for soaking up every last bit of the broth. Finally, her side of Charred Carrots ($13) were tender and topped with harissa honey, tzatziki, garlic crunch, pomegranate, and herbs. That was the best preparation of carrots I have ever been able to sample. I chose to order a dish that I don't get to have at home. Fennel-Dusted Rack of Lamb ($50) served with batata harra, baba ghanoush, zhug, and tahini. There were nine or ten ribs in this rack, and I left it to the chef to determine the proper level of doneness. They came out a beautiful looking and tender medium rare. The potatoes were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The eggplant was tender and full of flavor. Overall, this dish was equal to the best lamb dish I've ever eaten and a rare treat. To close out the evening, with our Macchiato ($5) and Cappuccino ($8) we shared the Dark Chocolate Tahini Cake ($12). The warm, rich, and flavorful cake with a scoop of coffee ice cream alongside, topped with sesame brittle and served in a pool of salted caramel, was a perfect end to an outstanding meal. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, professional, and welcoming. Empty plates were cleared from the table, with our permission, as needed to provide additional space. The tables are all well spaced and even with the high ceilings, it wasn't overly loud at all. The cocktails were some of the best in the area. On par with places like Hamlet and Ghost and Josie's Table. High quality and not something you could easily make yourself at home, even with knowing what you're doing. So tasty and beautifully presented. All of the food was super flavorful and perfectly cooked. We wanted to try a bit of everything and ended up taking quite a few leftovers home. For appetizers we tried the olives, whipped herb ricotta and the cheese croquettes. All of those were amazing! The olives were so well flavored and you get a bunch. The herbed whipped ricotta was fantastic but the star was easily the bread it came with. It was so good! I see why there is an option on the menu for "more bread, please" because it's the best focaccia I've ever had. The cheese croquettes were also great and the truffle cream it's plated on was a wonderful touch. For our dinners we tried the chicken, za'atar fries, hummus and the four cheese flatbread. Easily the greatest flatbread I've had. It was beautifully presented and such a fun way to do a flatbread! The chicken was amazing, very flavorful, juicy and gorgeously plated. The delicious amba yogurt complimented the flavors of the chicken so well. The hummus was so fresh and the pita it comes with is always so good. Our party of 5 enjoyed a great meal at Milas for our friend's birthday on a rainy Friday. I think the weather scared a lot of people off because the restaurant was pretty empty at 6 PM. With its high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers, and gleaming marble tables, Milas was a feast for the eyes. It wasn't a total feast for the belly unfortunately, as I wasn't all that impressed with the food. I ordered a Greek salad as an entree. Greek salads are hard to mess up, but Milas made the impossible happen by dousing the salad in salt. I left half of it behind. In contrast, we ordered hummus for the table and that was delicious. We ordered the limoncello drink as well, which was light and refreshing and made me feel like I was sipping it in the sunny Mediterranean instead of rainy Schenectady. The service was impeccable. We had multiple waiters check in on us over the evening. The birthday girl even got a complimentary glass of champagne which made her day. Milas was great for girls night out, and I can see how the ambiance plays into a romantic date night, but next time I'm in the mood for Mediterranean, I'll go elsewhere. The decor, staff and tall windows are all perfect! We tried the Dirty Birdy, Lavendula and Smoke on the Water. Pricey? Yes, not in everyone's budget but a real treat. I bugged the bartender on several occasions to ask about what they were doing and they were gracious and happily answered my questions. For example, they spritzed the smoky cocktail with a smoke scent to enhance the taste of the cocktail via your nose and they drip some imported olive oil from a friend of the owners from a country I forget, oops. We picked this place as we were seeing a show at the Proctors theatre and for some reason most restaurants in Schenectady were closed on Sunday night which surprised me as a big band were playing. We didn't have a reservation but the host got us seated at the bar. Our bartender was really personable and pleasant. Drinks were really great. I got an espresso martini and it was lovely - they have a wide drink menu with well crafted cocktails, like you would find in New York City. My boyfriend got the Left Hook it was delicious he said and well balanced. We weren't super hungry so got two small plates and I swear to god, they were unreal. We got the short rib dumpings and the mussels and normally I am super picky about seafood. I am from Ireland and we have the best fresh seafood in the world so I am never impressed with the seafood I get in the states but their Moroccan mussels were out of this world. I would go back there just for her!!! I have a hazelnut allergy you see and she really went to bat for me, keeping me safe from the dreaded hazelnuts that populated the menu and served me exactly what I wanted!! I have been to some so called upscale restaurants that shame you for having a food allergy. Not this place! Rachel was the epitome of wonderful hospitality! Great food.. Waitress was wonderful, but a collection of nits just keeps them from hitting the mark. We booked the Vault. Arrived, hosted told seater "Table X". When I said we booked the Vault, was told there was an event in the Vault. They feigned surprise when I said Vualt was available on Resy. They should have called to confirm table was OK alternative (which it was). I understand the "extra bread" upcharge. One small pita served with one of the spreads we ordered, definitely not enough for the amount of spread served. The "extra" was $5 for one more small pita. Busser cleared diners plates as each finished, rather than waiting for all to be done. Tip calculations on receipt based on total +tax. Food was great, but these things just miss the mark and are the difference between excellent, professional, service and run of the mill. read more

Our spontaneous decision to sample eateries on state street was richly rewarded by excellent service, a warm ambiance, and tasty dishes. I don't give many 5s. I've enjoyed Restaurants all over North America. I've lived in Schenectady over 40 years, and this was the most amazing meal I've had here in decades. Wife and I celebrated her 69th birthday tonight. After we were seated our cocktails were excellent and generous pour. The wine list decent caliber. The Tapas items we had were stunning. Mussels, Crab Spanakopita, Manti and TIROKROKETES. Best mussels we've had since we caught them ourselves on Jersey coast in early 1980s. The joy of the meal was everthing played well together and we left comfortably full and without that bloated feeling. We capped it all off with a lovely dessert of Vanilla Panna Cotta and expresso. While prices may have been a notch above typical Schenectady, we got out of there under $160 before tip including 4 premium cocktails and dessert. Considering such a meal runs 200 plus in Orlando, 300 plus in Philadelphia and 400 in NYC. It was well worth it. Well certainly will be back. I think i have a new favorite ( non Italian) restaurant in Schenectady. This little city has come a long way. My friends that I came to visit back in August was hyping this restaurant that recently opened (yes I just finally came around to writing this review). The space used to be a bank, which they retrofitted the entire space really nicely. The bank vault still exist in the back of the space, which was pretty cool to look into. We made a reservation prior to coming, which is highly encouraged. Not really sure how walk ins fare, unless you're going to the bar. Although it is a bit on the fine dining side, there's no dress code they enforce, but it's probably a spot you'd want to. Our waitress was super friendly and made great recommendations. This particular waitress also has a twin that works at The Nest next door as a bartender, so don't be too surprised. They had this drink special that wasn't on the menu, which was really good. Unfortunately there was only a limited supply so we weren't able to get seconds. I only mention this because that was worth getting. Unfortunately don't remember the name of the drink. For starters we got the Whipped Herb Ricotta Dip ($16). This dip consisted of confit tomato, Calabrian Chile Honey, garlic crunch and focaccia on the side. Those focaccia bread were super delicious that it was worth paying the extra $5 for more to finish off the dip. We each had a Beef Short Rib Dumplings ($18) and Fire Roast Oysters ($18) since they consists of 4 pieces in an order. These were delicious as well. The Truffle Pide ($22), which what they called their Turkish Flatbread, was a good order to fill up a bit with our drinks as eating one piece of dumpling certainly will not satisfy your hunger. For entree, we decided to split the Hot Seafood Platter ($100) which came with a whole lobster, shrimp kebab, grilled octopus, fried calamari, charred peppers, lemon garlic butter, and saffron aioli. Having read the reviews and checked the menu I was skeptical if we'd enjoy this restaurant. The reason for the visit was to celebrate the marriage of my wife's son and his new wife. There were 20 of us and I felt like a king with the excellent service we received. We shared many different appetizers between all of us and then were served our choice of dinner. I had the Lobster Pasta along with a few other of the guests. It was served over a bed of pasta. My wife had the Smoked Eggplant which she was raving about. Desserts were excellent also. I do not live in the Schenectady area but frequently travel there to visit relatives who live between Schenectady and Saratoga Springs and this is the best restaurant I have eaten at in that area. All of the food we ordered was very good to excellent but particularly noteworthy was the Muhamara dip (possibly the best restaurant dip I have ever tasted and can't wait to try the others) and the Lamb Ribs which were incredible and I will order them every time we go there. First of all, the food we had was fabulous while expensive. I had the special scallops for over $65. There were only 4 scallops served over a bed of beautifully cooked and presented spinach. My husband had the seafood tower as a dinner, which he totally enjoyed. We shared the whipped herb ricotta dip as an appetizer - delicious, but for $16 I would've expected more Kaseya rather than being charged another five dollars for extra. The reason I gave this for rather than five stars in addition to small and expensive servings, is due to the fact that despite the fact that we were one of the first to arrive for dinner service and had a reservation, we were seated at a small table with little privacy - diners closely seated on both sides. I noted that others arriving minutes after us, including parties of two were placed at larger tables of four and one at a booth. Upon arrival, the building is unassuming but once inside this historic features are beautiful with a warm ambiance and trendy, chic decor. The wait-staff are incredible; knowledgeable, patient and friendly. We ordered several specialty cocktails which were all good. The lamb shortbread was good but a lot of dough to scant filling ratio. The poached and grilled octopus small plate was just okay; I've had a lot better at several other establishments. For entrees we had the chicken skewer which came out cold, the scallops with lobster and caviar which were good but the sour cantaloupe sauce was way too thick and texturally overpowering for the dish and the braised short rib which was good but average. The dark chocolate brownie with coffee ice cream and salted caramel was for dessert. It was topped with a sesame brittle of sorts; the highlight of the dessert. The brownie was a bit dry, very cocoa forward. This is a very Instagramable place. The architectural and design details are flawless. We agreed we'd be back for cocktails and apps/small plates at the bar and maybe not take the trip for a full-on dinner based on quality. With tip, for 3 people the cost was about $405. After dinner, we had a nightcap at the bar before last call closing. read more

I was incredibly excited to try this restaurant, and boy, did it live up to the hype! It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. My boyfriend and I had reservations on a Sunday evening, and upon entering, I was overwhelmed with how beautifully designed it was. Though the design is simple, it feels modern, classic, and clean. I also loved how they kept the original floors, which are absolutely beautiful. We were greeted immediately upon being sat at a high top table next to the bar. We had two servers - one main and one assistant. They were both so friendly and attentive throughout the entire evening. We decided to start with the Kubenah, or Yemeni Monkey Bread, which is bread filled with Feta, za'atar and garlic butter served in a small cast iron skillet with caramelized onion and Dill labneh for dipping. It was incredible! We also ordered the Manti or Beef Short Rib Dumplings. Though the Dumplings were small, they were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. I wish they offered them as an entree! Speaking of entrees, we ordered the Prime Filet Kabob, which came with hummus and roasted oyster mushrooms, as well as the Fire Roasted Herb Chicken with Greek potatoes, tomatoes and artichokes. The Kabob was so good! The creamy hummus and oyster mushrooms were amazing accompaniments. The chicken portion was massive! It was really juicy and tasted great. We also ordered the za'atar fries with truffle aioli, and those were fantastic as well. I wish we had room for dessert, but hopefully, next time! Overall, Mila's is a wonderful addition to the Electric City and another fantastic fine dining restaurant in the Capital Region. Make a reservation and get there ASAP! read more

Great experience at Milas. Service was excellent. It was really busy and all the drinks, apps, and food came out at the appropriate time. I never knew I liked Mediterranean until coming here. Apps-whipped herbed ricotta and short rib flatbread were really good. 3 apps for a table or 6 was perfect. Drinks were really good. I got some type of beet juice margarita which was really good. Wife got a pistachio salmon and I got a scallop dish. When I go again I'll get the same dish, it was excellent. Place has a really nice ambiance. Doesn't feel like you are in upstate NY. I stopped by Milas Restaurant & Bar, which just opened in Downtown Schenectady in the former Bank of America (Schenectady Savings Bank) building, several doors down from their sister restaurant The Nest. The atmosphere is modern with the full service bar with seating and overhanging plants & flowers to the right and table seating near the front window and towards the back. Milas offers Mediterranean cuisine including dips & bread, small plates, salads, plates, platters, and desserts, plus a full beer, wine and cocktails menu. The pricing is on the higher end.  I stopped by Milas for dinner and headed to the bar and sat mysrlf at an open high seat. Most of the patrons seated at the bar and bartenders had plenty of arm ink. I was given a food menu and an ice water. I quickly decided on the Crispy Oysters ($17 plus tax) and the Lamb Burger ($22 plus tax) with za'atar fries. Both plates were together served in 15 minutes. The 4 crispy oysters in the shell had taramatalara, pickled shallots, salmon roe and arugula. The Lamb Burger had lamb kefta, whipped feta, confit tomato, sumac onion, arugula, harrisa on a soft bun, served with golden crispy fries in a small fry basket and za'atar dip. The lamb burger had a charred flavor and was quite filling. I finished all the food I ordered and passed on dessert since lately I've been getting plenty of free desserts from the chain restaurants. The check was $42.12 with tax and before tip.  Overall, the food was pretty good, but slightly priced higher. The service was prompt and the bartenders refilled my ice water 3 times, especially since it was a very hot day. read more

The place was absolutely jamming during our reservation on a Friday evening. Everyone we talked to was smiling and the service was above and beyond. Every bite of our food was Michelin level quality. I heard a lot about Milas from family and was excited to try it out! The restaurant was warm and inviting with ambient lighting and friendly faces. My sister and I came for a girls night with shared plates and entrees (photos attached!). The most memorable part of our trip here was the historic bank vault at the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere of this restaurant definitely makes you feel like you are on vacation in Miami or NYC. The design is beautiful and upping the game for nearby restaurants in this location. Food: There is no upscale style restaurant around here with this type of cuisine. Every item I have gotten from the menu has been hit out of the park! Super flavorful, perfect portions and you can tell they are made fresh with fresh ingredients. It's definitely a treat yourself type of place but I can't wait to go back! The staff is super friendly and helpful if you need help deciding on what to get. So glad this place opened up! read more

I normally do not write reviews, but I began writing this at 10:09 pm after arriving at 7:45 for an 8:00 reservation. We were told to go to the bar, which was fairly open. The restaurant is full but not overly crowded. 8:05 comes can we have not been seated. We check with the hostess who said her hostess would be right with us. Past 8:15 again nothing. We check in again and we are eventually seated in the vault room where there are 2 other tables and us. Our waitress comes who informs us she has an assistant and asks about choice of water. We went with tap, which was poured and then another 15+ minutes go by before our waitress comes back. What's the point of the assistant if the waitress gets too busy for a table I wonder? Moreover, the head of house was in the room at this time watching service on another table, and did not pick up our closed menus and finger tapping. After a half hearted apology from the server we ordered food. The food service was decent, and the food was decent, but it's hard to be honest on food quality when your palette is jaded by poor service. We decide to have some after dinner drinks and dessert, which then took another significant amount of time to come out. Instead of leaving full and satisfied, we left full, tired and irritated. It's a shame since we had been looking forward to this place after enjoying the other restaurants in the group for many years. read more

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, but the ambiance and the dips, as well as the cocktails, really push this to the highest level. The group behind The Nest has done it again: elevated dining in downtown Schenectady. The interior is absolutely stunning, with the bar area simply out of this world. The cocktails are expertly crafted and presented beautifully. And the staff, just like at The Nest, is exceptional. I can only assume that Ziemann Hospitality treats their employees well, as their properties seem immune to the staffing shortages plaguing other local establishments. The entrees are good, but honestly? Go here for the mezze. The dips are simply out of this world. A perfect night would be you and a friend (or you alone!) sitting at the bar, drinking many cocktails and enjoying many appetizers. I like a cozier space, so while lovely, the very large and open feel of the venue is a little unnerving, but the quality and taste of the food and drink and the great service make up for it. Everything here is on point!! We went on a Tuesday early evening with a reservation but it wasn't crowded. We were immediately seated and given water and menus. Our waitstaff was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. The food here is delicious. I would never have thought of some of the combinations they have but they work great together. We started with the octopus and it was cooked perfectly. We then had the short ribs and the filet mignon kabob. Both very different meals but both awesome. We finished with a tahini chocolate cake with sesame brittle. Best dessert I have had in a long time. We shared a bottle of wine but next time we may try some of their creative cocktails. The prices are a little steep but you are paying for creative high quality meals and experiences. We will definitely return. read more
