First note they are a cash only business, but do have an ATM on property. We sat at the bar and the ambience is wonderful. Lots of artifacts around the bar. Reasonable selection of each type of liquor. I had a Jim Beam on the rocks. For entrees we had a Deluxe Burger with cheddar, a Caprese Flatbread, and Harold's Ruben. All three were spot on. Nothing to complain about, and that's how pub food should be. This pub food is a notch above your typical pub grub without elevating itself to gastropub status. read more

We remembered that The Broken Inn serves basically sandwiches and appetizers, and that was what we were in the mood for. Our Sunday 5ish arrival found the place mostly empty with more staff than customers. Needless to say, service was prompt and friendly. The bar area has high-top tables with coin operated gumball machines filled with M&Ms located beneath each high-top. The backroom dining area is several steps lower than the bar and offers comfortable booth seating away from the bar's TV. We were promptly provided with a refillable bottle of tap water to serve ourselves with as we perused the menu. FYI, Niskayuna water tastes good. Man (and woman) does not live on water alone, so we ordered a Diet Pepsi ($3) and a Guinness draft ($8). Both of us decided on The Broken Inn Burger ($18) - an 8 oz. patty topped with homemade "jam" (bacon, real maple syrup, & caramelized onions), lettuce, tomato, onion, and choice of cheese (we both chose cheddar over American, Swiss, or provolone). While Fries are included, my wife subbed Sweet Potato Fries ($1). Both of our patties were cooked beyond the requested medium-rare in our opinion, but the meat was still juicy. The inclusion of the "jam" made for slippery contents within the fresh brioche rolls. While the burgers were tasty overall, the jam does not give you a bacon-forward taste like whole strips of bacon. The caramelized onions provide an occasional crunch which is a welcomed texture juxtaposition. The fries were good, especially the sweet potato fries. I can see us returning to try some of their sandwiches. Note: They only accept cash, and 3% of each purchase goes to a Niskayuna cause. read more

My favorite local spot. Great service that treats you like family, and excellent food. Very homey and comfortable place. The Broken Inn is not just a great place to grab a meal, but is the heart of the community in Nisky. Cash only - they have an ATM with an inexpensive fee and instead of credit companies, local causes get monthly donations. I recommend the turkey club or the broken inn burger (my go tos!) but I haven't found anything I don't like on the menu yet. A great place to watch sports too. read more

FYI - CASH ONLY. Came here for a weekend lunch. The fried food was good and service was friendly. The menu implies the veggie burger is homemade ("ours is made with veggies and we season it like meat"). I was very disappointed when a grocery store-bought, processed burger patty came out. Dry bun, no sauce or anything. Just not good. Had I known I would have never ordered it. If I can go to Walmart and buy it for $3, I'm not coming out to pay $16 for it. read more

Niskayuna was in need of a "Cheers" lots of locals are always saying we need somewhere we can walk to and enjoy food and drink and meet up with friends. Well this is the place. This place is located in Old Niskayuna which is an area where there are a lot of residential homes with sidewalks! We arrived at around 6pm on a Friday night and it was busy but we got seated right away!.. The decor was lovely lots of memorabilia, old booths, signs, vintage bar very charming. Our server Erica came over and we recognized her.. a friend of a friend!... just like in Cheers!! Thank you Erica for the great service! She took our drink orders, sangria & beer and gave us some time to look over the new menu. DH ordered a reuben - $16 served with sauerkraut, swiss and russian on rye side of cole slaw and a pickle... he said it was good and huge and I ordered turkey club - $16. Large amount of delicious roasted turkey and Hellmans mayo (I know because I had Erica check in the kitchen :)) in between. Cole slaw & a pickle too. We ordered a side of fries... DH has to have his fries... All -n- all every thing was good but not exceptional.. I think eventually things will get better maybe some specials. The best part its close by home. Didn't live up to all the hype. I honestly expected a stellar, knock-your-socks-off meal from all of the recent hype. Instead I got a microscopic menu (they ONLY serve appetizers and sandwiches) that was 1/3 rules, like "you can't split your meal". Their rationale works but not when you consider a couple who might each want a salad and half a sandwich... still buying 3 meals but you get to pay extra to split it as if you only bought 1. The pastrami sandwich was big but soggy. Like not a little. The bottom slice of bread was falling apart. The fries are the frozen kind that comes in a bag. We have been following The Broken Inn on FB and had a chance to come for dinner. Decor is great- repurposed from other places! Dishes are all mix matched - Great vibe! Maxine was our server and she was great - offered suggestions- Food was good and came out quickly Some things to note- -CASH only! We did not know this until we sat down- It is the first thing you see on the menu. They do have an ATM machine that charges a $1.00 fee. -They only offer Salads and Sandwiches ( no burgers) - that being said the Sandwiches are HUGE -you need a knife and fork to eat as there is no way to get your mouth opened wide enough- You will have left overs!! - Fries are not served with sandwiches - it's an extra charge - Lastly there is a $20 shared plate fee- again very clearly stated on their menu Dessert looked great - saw an ice cream sundae that looked really good- but we had to get somewhere so we had to skip 3 oversized sandwiches and 3 sodas with a generous tip cost us just under $100 read more

My girlfriends and I were looking for a place to have Happy Hour. We saw mentions of this place on a local Facebook Foodie group and were intrigued. It is a neighborhood bar/grill close to Niskayuna High School, in a small plaza. It is unassuming from the outside. From the inside it has such great character. The leather booths have been repurposed - bought from an "adult club" in NYC. Underneath each table is an old-fashioned candy machine. They have not only a happy hour, but a Happy Hour and a Half (dollar off bar drinks). The four of us got a Caesar salad, flat bread, and two chicken sandwiches among us. The portions were huge and the food was delicious! The Broken Inn only takes cash - they contribute the 3 percent they can be giving to credit card companies to local causes - how awesome is that?! The Greek salad I ordered had no lettuce which I've never encountered. I asked thinking it was a mistake and the waitress pointed out the list of ingredients on the menu did not in fact include lettuce. She did offer to bring me some which I appreciated. But even after it wasn't very appetizing because the veggies were super coarsely chopped and the olives still had pits. For as bad as this salad was, the soft serve I had after was some of the best I've had. So skip the Greek salad folks and go right for the good stuff. read more

This place is very unassuming from the outside but the inside is very nicely decorated and has a cozy feel to it! Nice new restaurant in old Niskayuna. I was impressed walking in with the interior and all of the vintage Niskayuna memorabilia they had hanging like an old Niskayuna co-op sign and a Langes pharmacy sign. We were seated promptly and a large carafe/ bottle of water was placed at each table with menus and silverware which was a nice touch. For starters I ordered a French onion soup which was good and had nice layer of cheese on top but could of used more flavor. For entrees I ordered a French dip, and the other two people in my party ordered Turkey clubs and an order of fries. They really liked the clubs and they were enough for two meals. I have to admit though the French dip sandwich I ordered was not very good. The meat had no flavor and wasn't even salty which was strange for roast beef. The dip for it was also tasteless and had no flavor and almost tasted like plain water. The coleslaw served with it was excellent and had a hint of pineapple flavor. I'm hoping this was a fluke with them just being open a week and that with time things will get better. I am looking forward to trying the rest of the menu like the stuffed bacon appetizer and some of their desserts. read more

I had really high hopes for this place. I really enjoyed my drink I got but I was quickly grossed out when I saw a server sneeze into her hands, not wash them, then help out behind the bar. The same server then poured a fiddlehead beer and passed it through the window to a cook and yes, he did drink it. I'm not sure if the chef is allowed to drink 2+ beers during his shift but as someone who manages a restaurant, I would not like to know my server has poor hygiene and my staff is drinking on the job. read more
