Picked up our repaired Gaggia Titanium today from Dave. We really missed our Gaggia so the first thing we did after we got home was to brew some excellent cups of coffee. How sweet it is! I could not wait to write this review regarding HiTechEspresso and the owner, Dave and his employee, Carl. I have never had a worse experience with ANY other company. I have a Saeco Exprelia EVO that was leaking-I called Philips Saeco and they recommended this company to send my machine to for a repair. I called and received great information from Carl. I happily shipped my machine to them (paid $150 to ship it from UPS, packaged by UPS). I called to make sure they had received my machine. No answer- it went to a cell phone, not a legitimate company phone. Red flag #1. I left a message asking if they had received my machine. No call back. Red flag #2. I called again and left another message. No answer, no return call back. Red flag #3. I called a third time and finally got someone who just answered in a perturbed voice, "Hello!". I was shocked and asked, "Is this Hitech Espresso?" thinking I had the wrong number or business. The man on the other end of the line, Dave, the owner, was very short and very rude. I asked if he had received my machine in the mail. He said yes. About 10 days later, they called and said my machine was ready and that they would ship it to me. I paid the bill, and the machine was shipped to me. I received my machine 2 days later. My husband opened the box and said, "Is this how they shipped it? It's broken!" They had shipped my expensive machine in a large box with just a little bit of bubble wrap, and the machine consequently arrived broken. I called them in the morning and explained what happened. They asked for pictures. I promptly sent the pictures and received no response back. I called them again. They said to ship it back. I was irritated that I had to go back to UPS, package the machine all over again and do this process again for a second time. Then they said they would drive and pick it up- 2 hours away. Dave, the owner, showed up to my house, picked up the machine and dropped my box on the way to his car, and then kicked the box. I was shocked again. I asked how long it would take. He said it could take weeks to fix. I gave them a week and then called to ask the status of the machine. No answer. I called again, no answer. I left an irritated message and then promptly received a call back from Dave. He left the most unprofessional, rudest message to me, saying, "Why are you calling me??!" I called back and let him know I had thought that message to be extremely rude and I was now fed up with his business practices, so I demanded a refund at this point. He said no way and said I would not get my machine back now. He then hung up on me. Then he called back 10 minutes later, apologized and said he had the "flu" that week and wasn't himself. Good story, Dave. 4 days later, I received a call from his employee, Carl, asking me for a second payment of $240. I was again, shocked. I had to pay for them sending me back a broken machine that they shipped back faultily! Carl was just as rude as Dave, started yelling at me on the phone and said that they refunded my money like I had requested and now I had to pay for the repairs that they were responsible for! I asked him if that made any sense to him. He started yelling and hung up on me. Anyway, my husband had to send someone to pick up the machine and paid these crooks $240. I plan on taking this to the BBB and to small claims. This company is the WORST! Do NOT deal with them. Believe me, you will end up with a machine in worse off shape and a gigantic headache and an experience that you will not be happy with. I will never use them again and will never have a positive thing to say about Dave, Carl, or HItech Espresso. read more

Hitechespresso is definitely the place you're looking for when you have an espresso machine that needs expert repair. I have a 12-year old Expobar Pulser that has been an amazing machine and it needed quite a bit of work after all these years. I felt that Dave gave me the straight info on the repair and took the time to explain what needed to be done. I took a Gaggia machine to Dave (hitech) about 3 years ago and was very happy with my experience overall. Then had an issue with machine which was about 6 months old fairly new and left it with him in late Dec 16 and waited about a month and called him back and he informed me he needed more time since his long time employee quit. I totally understood and called him back again and he informed me that he couldn't fix my machine after several attempts. He informed me that he would ship it to the distributor (wholelattelove) and they would repair and bill me directly. After there repair center received they sent me email detailing estimate of the repairs. It stated how the previous repair shop (hitech) had broken several parts and had shipped it in pieces in multiple boxes! I forwarded the email to Dave and his response was "Not Good". Then I asked Dave if he could make things right by paying for the items broken or missing. Dave said he would chip in for a new reconditioned machine (different model) that he would be selling me of course! Seriously? My machine was still under warranty but was received as a gift so I didn't have the receipt! Now out $350 but honestly Wholelatte told me part would had cost me $35 plus $65 labor plus $50 shipping. If you can't fix I understand but to damage something and then try to hide it is just plain dishonest! Found another repair man (actually Italian) that came to my friends home picked up machine and returned within 2 weeks and even showed him the old part he had to replace! I visited High Tech Expresso on line after being referred by Saeco to repair my Expresso machine. I followed the instructions and left a detailed email message as to what was wrong with my machine. I was promised a call back within one business day. Instead I received a one line email telling me "Call Dave . .and a number." I called "Dave" but didn't receive a call back for several days. I finally called and when I spoke with Dave he was rude and unpleasant. He asked why I was annoyed and when I tried to explain, he cut me off and said, "Have a nice day L" and then simply hung up in my face. I called Saeco in Ohio and told them how I was treated. They were terrific and gave me the name of another authorized service center that could not have been more willing to help. I don't know how good or bad High Tech Expresso is, I only know they treated me very badly, refusing to listen and then hanging up the phone in my face. I guess if you get these folks on a good day, you're ok, but on bad day, they were horrible, at least to me. I know there are a lot of positive reviews here, but clearly not everyone has a positive experience with High Tech Expresso, I was one of the unlucky ones. read more

I recently purchased a La Marzocco GS3 MP from Dave and I had him perform a "Strada" modification. Unfortunately, it arrived at my location broken from freight damage. This is where a lot of companies fall down. However, Dave swiftly assisted us in getting the claim handled through the freight company, as well as repairing the unit promptly. When I received it back, it worked perfectly. In fact, it has exceeded my expectations for espresso making. Dave is extremely knowledgeable and a master on espresso machines. After waiting five months at Alattehotte and not even getting a diagnosis, I brought my machine here. In less than a week, I had a diagnosis. In two weeks I was told it was done and I went to pick it up. This would be a five star review, but he missed something in the repair, and it wasn't actually ready. I picked it up after the third week and the machine has been working great ever since. Dave also turned me on to a water filter that is specifically for espresso/coffee. This has made a big difference in the quality of the coffee and the frequency my machine requests descaling. read more

We bought our Rancilio Silvia (espresso machine) and Rancilio Rocky (grinder) by mail order from Dave 7 years ago when he was still in North Carolina, because we wanted the PID temperature control device that he installs on the Silvia. It was a very professional transaction and when Dave realized we lived in Los Angeles, he mentioned that he was going to be in town just after we received delivery and would be happy to come over and teach us how to use the machine. We declined, but the machines and his customization of them lived up to all the on-line raves. We screwed up several years ago and burned out the heating element on the Silvia (no water in the tank and the steam wand left on) and were delighted to learn that Dave had moved his business back to LA., I took the machine over to him and he couldn't have been nicer in person and so very knowledgeable about all things coffee and espresso. I just came back today from taking our Rocky grinder over (it sparked and didn't work for 24 hours), but Dave found nothing wrong with it after taking it apart. And there was no charge. Dave is definitely a man of strong opinions, which he is not shy to voice, but I really value that in a business relationship. When we abused our Silvia, he took me to task (in a nice way), but I really appreciated it because otherwise how would I have known how to treat it differently. We were looking for a new espresso machine and grinder and researched on the web. We narrowed down to the Rocket for the espresso machine, but were concerned about getting local service. According to Rocket website, Hitech Espresso is the one that would service us, although a long drive from Orange County. My wife called David to basically "interview" him and wound up on the phone for about a half hour getting great advice on machines and hints for further research. A couple of weeks later, we drove up to his place and spent another session with him exploring machines and learning some in and outs (particularly grinding) of making espresso. We wound up getting a Rocket R58 which we absolutely love, and a Rancillo Mini grinder. After delivery of the machines, we spent another session with David getting acquainted and trained on the specific machines, and he spent the time to calibrate our grinder to the right grind for us. We are very happy that we have met him, and, if we have problems with our machines, we are confident that he will be the go-to guy to fix them. read more

When you call a company to fix this problem, you have to leave a brief and intelligible message because espresso repair usually occurs out in the field. Dave's the best by a country mile, so he's crazy busy. The other thing you need to know about Dave: put away all of your preconceived notions about blue collar repair guys. He's smarter than you. And not just when it comes to espresso machines. As Ron Swanson of Parks & Recreation is to woodworking, that is sort of how Dave Blaine is to espresso repair. He doesn't suffer fools gladly, because he's got a ton of repairs to get to. So if you have a high end espresso repair, call Dave and then get out of his way. He even lent me his personal espresso machine when a factory part didn't arrive in time to have mine ready for a huge event I was having at my house.
