Gel manicure by Emma with subtle shimmer overlay (5 weeks after they were done!)

5 weeks after my wedding and my gel nails done by Emma at Hive Salon still look perfect (minus the grow out, obviously). No lifting at the base on a single nail either! She put so much time and attention into them! Beautiful on the day of and still look incredible over a month later!

Hive Salon is the BEST. Chris, Sia and David have created such a comfortable environment- much different than the normal "salon experience". They'll hand you a warm mug of coffee, put on some nice music and it feels like you're just hanging out (and also getting your hair done). When I first went in I had long hair and David gave me a beautiful long bob, then next I wanted a short bob and finally a pixie cut. He did an amazing job on each style, and he really knows how to work with your head shape, hair texture, etc. each cut exceeded my expectations! Hive is very affordable for the level of skill (nearly half of what I used to pay in New York State) and as far as I'm concerned, they are the best in the area and they can do anything. I recommend Hive to everyone, you will NOT have a bad experience there! I added pictures of all of my cuts so you can see David's beautiful work!

The receptionist is so nice and helpful when making appointments. I went to Abby for waxing and she is skilled and knows what she is doing so I know I can rely on her. It was a painful experience but she called in Abby to help and the whole experience turned around. I personally didn't mind it but you may want to ask how skilled your person is before booking. I get lash lifts and tints, and she knows how to make my natural lash curl beautifully without it looking like too much. I have naturally long lashes but they don't curl at all, and when I wear mascara they hit my glasses and get them dirty! But with a lift I get a natural curl and don't have to worry about it. The tint makes it so I barely touch mascara now! If you're debating a lash service go see her - it's worth it!

I agree that the salon is not much to look at from the outside - almost missed it when I was…read moreheading to my appointment - plus the only way to enter the parking lot is from the side street, so I was pulling a couple U-turns to get in. I was gifted with a certificate and was happily surprised to find an Aveda salon right here in Wauwatosa! I wanted a massage, but they no longer offer them. So, I opted for a new service I've never had before - a facial! I made an appointment for a 90-minute Dual Exfoliation Peel and was paired with Lisa, who is absolutely incredible. Lisa walked me through every step of the process as I was a newbie. Starting with changing into a sarong, slipped, and comfy robe, we did a foot soak and light foot/leg massage. Then back to the private room where I laid on the table. The lights were turned down to a calming level which was nice. The one really off-putting thing in this otherwise calming room was the ceiling - there were HUGE brown water stains on the ceiling tiles that were absolutely disgusting. It's not hard to replace a few tiles, so that surprised me. Luckily my eyes were closed most of the time. Also the music wasn't particularly relaxing with drum beats and chanting sometimes. She started with a "sensory journey" where I got to choose an oil scent I found pleasing out of three. Then she exfoliated my whole face with a nice scrub, really focusing on getting the dead skin layer off and not just "petting" my face with the product. Between each mask I got a hot towel, which was heavenly being wiped on my neck and face. We did a chemical peel (not like you're picturing, remember Aveda is all natural and vegan!) where the cooling part was first, and the second was a nice warming sensation. The facial even including a light neck massage and she did a wonderful job on my arms and hands. The results were shocking - I did look smooth and refreshed, and learned more about proper skincare routines for my skin. I 100% absolutely recommend this salon, this service, and I want to be friends with Lisa - she was so friendly and great! The price tag was very high for regular treatments ($150 for the 90 minute treatment) so I don't know when I'd be able to afford to come back - but they did a wonderful job. They also have a full Aveda shop in the front to stock up on your products, really nice to not have to go into Mayfair or to pay shipping. ProTip - if you're a first timer mention the $20 discount on the website!

Gave the owner/manager an opportunity to rectify this very upsetting experience, but she became defensive, indicating she would "discuss with staff at their next meeting". Really? How unprofessional and inappropriate. I get my hair done faithfully every 6-8 weeks and never need extra product. The stylist begged to style my hair, which consisted of using her hands to twist my wet hair. This was $27 up-charge unbeknown to me! Had I taken a picture of the discarded "extra" product mentioned, I would have posted as it was about 1/3 of a bowl. Clearly appeared to have been dispensed for the extra $$ which wasn't needed or used. Would have given an extra star had I not been taken advantage of. Seems as if it was a communication issue. But the fact remains, when the owner/manager is given an opportunity to rectify and does nothing, says a lot for that business on how they treat clients. #1 attribute in any successful business is customer service. They do, however give new clients a sample "gift bag" which consists of some of the samples Aveda gives when you purchase sets or liters. So to ease my mind, I felt as if I purchased the gift bag. Note: They do offer a $20 coupon on their website to new clients. Thank goodness I remembered or I would have been even more disappointed. The stylist should acknowledge new clients with this advertised promotion. Luckily I mentioned it after the shocking total cost was announced. Hopefully this helps others be aware of silent uncharges and hopefully getting what you need or want and not more.

Just for the record, it's been awhile since I felt a need to post ANY kind of review on Yelp…read more.. But, as soon as I got to work today I needed to sit down and write this. I just got back from getting a Brazilian wax and an eyebrow tint with Susan. Can I just say she's AMAZING. I had a Brazilian wax a year ago from a fancy spa in Brookfield...(won't say the name but it rhymes with Chazana...) and I vowed I would NEVER do that again. My hubby talked me into it, and can I just say it was SO different from what I experienced????? Ok??? Susan was SO kind and understand and kept me talking the entire time. It only took about 15 minutes and was so much less painful than before. I couldn't believe she was done! She is SOOOO skilled that I'm already looking at the calendar to schedule my next one. KUDOS CHICKADEE! Also, the eyebrow tint was perfectly natural. Last time I got it done I looked like an Angry Bird. This time it was beautifully matched to my hair. SUSAN... YOU ROCK!! I can't wait to come back, and I will definitely refer ALL of my friends to you! Thank you for your expertise and commitment to doing things so professionally! See you in 4-6 weeks! :) Michelle

She was just plain rude and actually mean towards me. I felt like she was also in a rush because she opened the door while I was in the middle of changing. No knock or anything. Just opened it. I have had Brazilian waxes at 3 or 4 different places and this was the absolute most painful and she just kept tearing off the strips and had the nerve to tell me that I am probably one of those people that shouldn't get these waxes done because of how painful I said she was. It was her, not me. I never had a wax that was this painful. Then when she was done, I just wanted to get out of there so I hopped of the table and started to change. She had the nerve to say, "can you at least wait until I leave the room?". Seriously!!?? She had no problem walking in on me while I was changing and had just seen the most private areas of my body and she now had a problem that I wanted to get my clothes on as quickly as possible. This was about 8 months ago and I'm still angry that I tipped her so well for 10 minutes of the worst pain ever. I wish I hadn't tipped at all. I never felt so uncomfortable with her, this place, her attitude, etc. I honestly feel she was so rude because I am not a complete fake and was overweight at the time. I'm sure she is nice to everyone that is equally fake to her with Botox, fake books, fake face, etc.

Stacey is amazing!…read more After a couple months of having some neck pain (at 45, more and more hurts these days), my wife finally had it with me and said, "Will you please go see Stacey?" I've never done massage as a regular part of my reality. Meditation, yes. Yoga, yes. Physical Therapy, inversion table, hot tub, Advil, etc., but not massage. In fact, the only time I'd had one was as part of a couples massage years ago. Maybe it's because I'm a guy. Who knows But, not being able to easily turn my head was getting annoying. So, off to Lilou I went. And now I'm an addict. :) So, Week 1 was interesting. Lots of knots that I didn't even know about. I always thought I was a pretty relaxed, laid back kind of guy. Then she hit my low back, and shoulder blades, before even getting to my neck and occipital issues. For a relaxed guy, the number of boulders she found in my upper back was pretty stunning. Then on to my neck for a good half hour. Knots and cords galore! Was I cured? Immediately relieved? No. Stacey suggested that in situations like this, it could possibly take four sessions to start to see some significant relief. That was May 2016. I now go nearly weekly (Jan 2017 as of this writing.) She now works my low back - two herniated discs, hamstrings and glutes (the herniation tends to radiate and my hamstrings have always been terrible), my upper back and neck. She has even had to dig her elbow into some on the knots in my legs. Sometimes I push a bit too hard in yoga, and she can always tell. :) Will it cure my issues? No, of course not, but it helps the symptoms tremendously, and getting the muscles to loosen up helps relieve the spasms, which can pinch things off. So, it definitely helps both the symptoms and the causes. She has even suggested particular stretches and moves in order to help the issues. While I can't personally speak to the rest of the services she provides - my wife does massage, waxing, and facials with her and has for years - I'm hooked on her.

I was considering my options because drawing them in daily is a pain. Especially when you can't see without readers. I scheduled a consultation with Preet to discuss microblading and other more permanent options, and added on a tinting session to walk out with something tangible. I had to go to the Tosa location to see her, which was a hike. She mentioned that she might start adding hours on the East side, which would be great, as she is the only one who performs the advanced services. The shop is pretty spare, but Preet explained all the safety techniques she uses to ensure a hygienic experience. She was friendly, thorough and unrushed. We talked procedures, colors, etc. I may pull the trigger eventually, but this is not a cheap service. I did get a tint done and my first threading. It went well. She didn't have the color I wanted for the "permanent" eyebrows, but I did walk out with more definition, a pleasing shape and a good overall feeling.
