Our experience with this company was extremely disappointing. The crew initially came out and removed two palm trees, but told us they would need to return to complete the stump grinding. The day they were supposed to come back, no one showed up. For an entire week, I called and texted multiple times asking when they would return, but received no response. Ironically, the only time I finally heard back was after I sent a message saying I would be leaving a Yelp review. Suddenly, the owner sent someone out that same day to finish the stump grinding. When the work was completed, my husband asked the worker what payment was due. He didn't give us an answer. Prior to that, the owner had mentioned giving us some type of discount because of the inconvenience, but he never confirmed the final amount owed or when payment was expected. Nothing was put in writing. The following week, the original worker unexpectedly showed up with another employee, saying they were there to finish the job. I explained that the work had already been completed by someone else the owner had sent. At that point, they told us we still owed money. My question is: Why wasn't the final balance communicated when the work was completed? Why wasn't anything provided in writing? We specifically asked about payment and were given no information. Instead of communicating clearly, they came back later expecting payment without ever having discussed the final amount or due date. I called HLI for an estimate on some trees and ivy on my property after they sent solicitors around my neighborhood putting business cards on every door. They told me they only give estimates at the beginning of the day (7am) which was fine except the estimator never showed up until after I called the number back at around noon when they said they'll be on their way shortly. They finally showed up at 4pm where a guy hopped out of an unmarked pickup truck (and left it running in my driveway). I showed him what I needed service on, but he wrote nothing down and gave me no pricing as I asked what each service would cost. He only kept saying "what else" and completely ignored my request for cost. When I had showed him everything I needed, the only thing he asked me was "how much do you want to pay?" I have no idea how much any of this costs since this is my first time getting service on the trees in my new home. I asked if they had pricing on anything, but he just kept asking what I wanted to pay. I finally just said "I don't know, $100 or $200?" He didn't reply but only started walking back to his truck. I asked if that was fair or what did he think it would cost, but he only said that I would get a call back. It's been a month and still no call back. We were quoted $400 to trim three palm trees, and to top both an orange and a pear tree. The crew was scheduled to arrive at 8am on Friday, but unfortunately, no one showed up at the agreed-upon time. After reaching out to your office, we were told the crew would arrive between 8am and 12pm. However, that window also passed with no sign of anyone, and our follow-up call went unanswered. Eventually, the crew arrived at 4:45pm and completed the trimming on all the trees--except our pear tree, which we didn't realize at the time. The crew left all the trimmings piled on our driveway and assured my husband that they would return at 8am on Saturday to remove the debris. Sadly, by 5:30pm on Saturday, no one had come by to take care of the mess, and since we hadn't received a return call to my husband's message on Friday, I decided to call from my phone, hoping you might recognize a new number and respond. I left a voicemail, and thankfully, you called me back promptly. During our conversation, I mentioned both the leftover trimmings and the untrimmed pear tree. Later, the owner texted to apologize for the inconvenience and said someone would be out on Sunday. I also asked for $50 off the total bill, given the hassle and the incomplete work on the pear tree, but never heard back regarding that request. I had my pine tree serviced for 600 bucks back in June and turns out they double charged my credit card for another 600. I've been texting the owner and til this day they haven't issued a refund. The owner/operator of HLI finally showed up over an hour late for his appointment to meet with us concerning the removal of a massive dead pine tree on our property. He then proceeded to make such a big show of telling me that if he gives a text estimate on a photo via Yelp, it stands, stating that he would "always, always" honor it. His text estimate was $450, but when all was said and done, he would only agree to do the job for $500, not the $450 amount that he had previously quoted, and ONLY if we would agree to do the job on that same day. Since we were not prepared to have the job done on such short notice, I asked him how much he would charge if we waited, and he told me that he would have to charge us at least $750, and maybe more. This dude also badmouthed his competitor, Jesus Tree Service, whom we did end up hiring. He claimed that Jesus had no experience. Surprise, surprise, however! Jesus showed up right on time to do the job, he did an amazingly neat, tidy, and efficient job for $500, and he completed it in a record 1 hour and 15 minutes, which is less than half the time that was estimated by all of his competitors. Moral of this story: Hire Jesus Tree Service and don't allow yourself to be strong-armed or manipulated by these questionable HLI jokers. read more

If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Carlos and his team did such an awesome job, 3 of my neighbors hired them to do work at their homes! I originally called them to trim a large Ash tree that was more than a half a century old. When Carlos came out to assess the job, he honestly informed me the tree was dangerously termite infested and beyond saving. I was heartbroken to lose that beautiful tree. His team was fast and efficient. Upon completion, you couldn't even tell they were there. I highly recommend HLI Tree Services, and will call Carlos back to take care of my remaining trees. This company is the best! We have a huge tree in our backyard that grew totally out of control. Edgar just happened to see me in the yard when he drove by, introduced himself, asked me about my tree and gave me a great affordable quote right at that moment. So, this company has a slick full page, color ad in the local home improvement magazine I received in the mail. i needed two small palm trees removed from my back yard so I called and was told they would be at my place for an estimate between 1 and 2 pm today. 2 o'clock comes. Nothing. 3 o'clock, Same thing. By 5 pm they not only did not show, they didn't call to explain their no show. Our 30+ year-old trees were out of control. I found HLI doing a job in my neighborhood and asked for a quote. The supervisor came over, and I was surprised how fair their price was compared to other quotes I'd received. I should say that I get tree trimmers knocking on my door weekly, but none are licensed or insured. HLI is both, and the caliber of their equipment substantiates that. They arrived at noon, took out a 60' star pine then trimmed 5 other trees, 3 of which are on a steep slope, and were done by 5. The proper equipment made all the difference, i.e. bucket truck and wood chipper rig. They removed all the debris and left us nicely cut firewood. They also came back a day later and ground the star pine stump, leaving me several garbage bags full of excellent mulch. I would highly recommend them to anyone! read more
