This hotel is quite expensive for what you are getting, but from what I could see, it looked like one of the nicer looking ones in the area. While the room looked okay, there were a few things that should have been taken care of: The door would not close on its own so you needed to really push it open or pull it shut hard; there was very little lighting in the room, it always appeared very day; one of the two lamps did not have a bulb in it; the bathroom was also very dark; the bathroom could have used a couple more hooks to hang towels.

    More dirt

I would stay far away from ho-chunk hotel-casino if your looking for a clean place to stay. As you can see by the photos the cleaning part is lacking any emphasis . When i told them about the issues. The first response wasn't to clean and correct it. It was to offer me a free room. The next day the hot tub was worse and had ants crawling about and food crumbs left from the night before. Yes it got worse. It's like the twilight zone of hotels.

Gross carpet. Looks like it is laid on top of something under the floor.

Room awful! Management did not care! Paid for an upgrade for the rain shower head. Wish we would not have! Was just a shower head in the the middle of a shower stall. The room was filthy as you can see by the pictures below. When we got there and laid on the bed, we could smell head sweat on the pillows! We bought linen spray at the outlet mall! Mattress the cheapest you could get. 3 flat pillows for a king bed(with no extras in the room to be had). Needs updates as you can see in the pictures. Which by the way we did share with management and they only gave us $15 off per night begrudgingly only after we spoke with the head of housekeeping. Never again. We will stay somewhere else and come enjoy the casino. The casino was wonderful.

    Holes in chair.

The rooms all have different names & themes which are lovingly and impressively done. It's a great place for a family gathering as there's loads of outdoor space: 1) large Fire pit in back, 2) Gazebo with lawn games, 3) picnic tables. Then, in front are the BBQ grills and several different-styled patio tables, as well as, 2 colorful nostalgic metal chairs directly outside each room. Lovely landscaping & flowers everywhere. Don't miss the bubbling brook just alongside the South side of the lounge and a peaceful spot to read. We visited Devils Lake Park, a diner in Baraboo, and an escape room in the Dells area. It's nearby lots of attractions. Oh yeah, the family that owns the joint are really nice

We stayed for a long weekend, and and it was the perfect location to get away. The rooms are all themed so when you call to reserve you can pick from the rooms they have available. We stayed in Unit 2, the Devil's Lake room which had photos of Devil's lake. The room included a mini refrigerator, coffee and tea, and alarm clock if needed. Right outside your door they have chairs and tables for enjoying the beautiful weather. They also have grills and an area for bonfires. I was only able to go to the communal area/lobby for the first morning as it was soon closed as they were started to do contactless check in/out. But it seems as though in less COVID-y times they have some coffee or tea there, light breakfast items like mini muffins or breakfast bars and fruit. They also had a communal puzzle and board games. Overall the place is super cozy, perfectly situated for a relaxing vacation with a number of restaurants and small shops to visit in Baraboo.

I did not expect the owners to treat me and my wife like honored guests in their own home, but that's how it is. Very interesting husband and wife team who are very skilled at making a rich experience and tailoring the visit to your interests. The coolest part of the stay for me were the happy hours that Dave hosted. We had a lot of fun swapping stories with Dave and other guests who were also up for some good drinks. Breakfast was also pretty awesome. The manor is a beautiful campus that exceeds the verbal description and pictures. Lots of richness in the back story can be gleaned from conversation with Dave. To be honest, we werent looking for a bed and breakfast or a resort like retreat since we came to do some hiking, do some leaf peeping, and do some tourist stuff with a friend. By the time check out came around, we wished we budgeted more time relaxing at the manor. Definitely plan to book here again next time we do a Wisconsin vacation.

The grounds were peaceful and full of hidden surprises. The owner's Dave and Trudy were so much fun! They helped us pick and make reservations at an amazing supper club and local brewery. The breakfast was great too! Dave was always happy to take photos for us and fill our wine glasses too! Both Dave and Trudy kept us laughing all weekend long. I stayed in the Birds Nest room. It was very charming and well appointed. I loved the binoculars that were in all the rooms so you could watch the birds and other wild life on the grounds. There was also a hydro spa tube in the private bathroom which was so relaxing. Overall a fabulous place for a getaway! This was an amazing girls weekend! We are planning on returning next year!

Our check-in process was smooth and we even received a room upgrade. The gentleman behind the counter was nice and quick to offer recommendations on places in the area to dine. The room was clean and spacious. The kind size bed was very comfortable. There was hardly any noise in the hotel nor outside which made for a pleasant experience. Overall for the price and location I would stay again. I would also recommend it to anyone else visiting the area.

I walked away from this person and as i did he was asking me if i believed in god. I went to the front desk to complain and the first thing he asked me is if he was drinking. Turns out it was an employee of the hotel, not the owner. Obviously they are aware of his behavior. My entire stay we always kept our personal belongings with us, not trusting leaving anything valuable in the room. The following day after breakfast, we saw this individual in the lobby, we avoided and ignored him but he followed us, babbling "making money money money" and "tRump is my president". I came to this hotel to relax, not to be harassed and constantly looking over my shoulder. If you are a woman traveling alone, STAY AWAY. If you traveling with children, STAY AWAY. I just want to know why best western would keep an employee like this. Thanks for the very lousy experience.
