My husband and I decided that we needed to get a haircut and I suggested Hoa's hair salon , because I've came here a couple times with my mom and I've gotten a cut here from the owner once. I liked it. So I wanted to take my husband here as well, and this time I wanted Eric to do our hair . I've seen how he cut clients hair while I've waited my mom to finish getting her perm by the owner, and each time, the clients hair looks really nice . Then I told myself.. Next time, I want Eric to cut my hair! We called at 4Pm on a Tuesday for both of us, and he told us to come in at 5. Once we got there, he was still working on another clients hair and told us it'll be a few minutes. My husband wanted to color his hair dark brown and a side swept cut. Though, I thought his hair wasn't long enough, but Eric somehow, made it work. He suggested to use a paste And gave some tips on how my husband should style it and that next time he should just trim around it. It's really hard to explain, but with my husband hair, it's not easy. I've brought him to multiple salons, and none of the stylist were able to shape it to his liking but Eric did. He loved it and he said he will be back! Which is a plus!!! My turn was next while my husband wait for his color to come out. I chopped my hair last year before I gave birth, and it has only grown about 3 inches. I told Eric I'm trying to grow it out so I want a little trimmed, thin it a bit with layers. The lady wash my hair first, combed, and Eric came over to do a few wet cuts at my ends. After, he blow dried it and did a dry cut. I loved the fact that he didn't rush to do our hair either, even though it was closing time. He did exactly what I asked and my hair didn't look short AT all! I was satisfied. I've been to Hoa twice now. The first time (Dec 2015) it deserved 4 stars, and I was very happy with the result. The second time (June 2016) it deserved 2.5 stars; it was less than satisfactory but not particularly bad. I got my hair cut by Eric both times. I don't to anything complicated to my hair. I have stick straight hair that tends to get heavy at the ends. Usually I get long layers (one layer) to lessen the volume at the ends, because I have a lot of hair. I get my hair cut to just a little longer than shoulder length. I asked for the same haircut both times. The first time, I left feeling brand new (lol). Usually I feel awkward with a new haircut, but that time I immediately liked it. The shape of my hair felt 'sleek'. It also grew out pretty well, not getting too heavy at the ends. After my recent haircut, the ends of my hair were blunt, and my hair puffed out at the ends making my head-area look triangular. Since then, I've been wearing my hair up in a ponytail or bun more often to hid the triangular-ness of it. If I had the second haircut first, I would not have gone back to Hoa. Since my first haircut was good, I may give them another chance. Eric speaks mostly cantonese but he can get the point across in English if needed. He is pretty quiet, but I don't mind because I'm not a fan of super chatty hairdressers anyways. My entire appointment took almost 1 hr. I don't know if more time spent cutting hair is a sign of a more attentive hairdresser, but my haircuts in Chinatown (Le Gala and Le's) have all been about 30 minutes total. At $42 (the price went up since my first cut), plus tip, Hoa is not expensive but also not cheap. This price includes a wash (but no head massage that you sometimes get). A haircut plus wash in Chinatown is around $35 the last time I checked. A good first experience and a bad second experience average out to 3 stars. By the way, this place is cash-only. read more

***I went here a few weeks ago after i left my job. ** After hearing everyone i knew raved about the haircuts here, I went for a cut. I am not satisfied with my hair cut. My hair is about 12 inches long, i picked a look and showed him i want my hair cut up to my shoulders. He talked me out of it and suggested long layers. I said "ok... sure whatever you think best suits my face" He then said "i feel bad people with long hair wanting a short look, because it took a long time to grow their hair out" Very thoughtful of him to say so. He started with the wet cut, cutting away the ends (pretty much cutting around the perimeter). After the wet cut he dries my hair one side and the other mature lady blew dry on the left with cold setting against my scalp. After it's dried he proceeds to cut with the thinning shears and razor the crap out of my hair. Dropping combs here and there, and using it again. After the cut sprayed tons of hair spray and showed me the back with the mirror. Looks fine to me, but deep down i knew it will look like a mullet the next day. Sad to say I was right. Over razor on the right side of my hair, missing spots caused by the razor and thinning shears. Strangles all over the place causing my hair to tangle. I'm sorry but as a cosmetologist myself I dislike the razor technique on my hair, my hair is naturally straight and is fine to medium. Even my previous boss knows not to use the razor on my hair. But it is my fault for not mentioning this to him before he starts to cut. Since being in the same industry I can see all the flaws that others can't. Overall they are nice people, but i wouldn't go back. I have to let this mullet grow out first. p.s. to the mature lady, even though you didn't really shampoo my hair i still tipped you, but it is really rude when the tip is handed to you and I said "thank you' looking into your eyes. Yet your eyes met my money instead. :-( read more

I was in in desperate need of a haircut and spontaneously I decided to try Hoa Hair Studio as a walk in. (I had heard from a few people that they were good.) When I walked in, the salon is small, interior is not too fancy but clean. The sylists who were cutting hair were stylish and seem to have a edge. Had to wait about 15 minutes, which was not bad considering I had no appointment. The first available stylist who could cut my hair was Eric. I googled a specific Japanese hair style I wanted. As I watched him snip away I could tell immediately that he has was experienced and has great skill. He listened to what I wanted and did exactly what I was looking for. I thought I hit the jackpot! He did such an amazing job with my hair. I also observed the other stylist Johnny as he cut one woman's hair who seemed to be great as well. I am was very happy with the precision of the cut and Eric's friendly nature. I can somewhat be very picky and particular, and have tried many salons but I am impressed by this little salon in the heart of Quincy. I would highly recommend this salon to others. If you want to get a really good cut and do not want to travel to Newbury, I suggest checking them out. I would rate them a 5 for cut, if you are looking for a full service salon and want amenities, and ambiance I would rate a 4.5. read more

Just came back from this hair salon and I'm perfectly satisfied. Made an appointment at 5PM on Thursday. There was plenty of street parking. Eric DEFINITELY took his time with my hair. At first when he went about the first round of cutting and then blow dry, I got nervous because I thought he was finishing up. It was pretty fast. I didn't realize that he was just blowing drying to go back to cutting again. Then he REALLY took his time which made me feel better. I have very flat thin hair with a wider forehead, therefore I usually have a hard time looking for a place that can cut my hair into the right shape around my face. Usually people always cut a couple of inches off more than I had asked, but Eric kept my length. He did trim a tiny bit to get rid of the split ends but it looks great. He layered my hair in a way so that there can be more volume around my face which is good. I didn't specifically tell him how short I want my bangs, but he made it look nice. In the end, the total cost for hair wash, cut and blow dry is $38. With tip, I gave him a total of $50 because I was pretty happy with the look. read more

Not sure how everyone experienced here, but seem like a decent place so I gave it a try after seeing all the positive reviews on here. First walked in, we saw Johnny, such an unpleasant welcome on his face. So I brought my wife and my two daughters here 6 and 3 just to trims off the end of their hair maybe .5''-1" max for the kids, since it the younger one first hair cut shes all excited. Wife is just getting a regular haircut, nothing fancy. So the kids probably took about 5-10 mins each since there's not much to it. The bill came out to be $120, and cash only? I was shock, since I only have 100 cash on me. My wife usually paid 35$ hair cut from her usual place but since it about 45 mins drive away so we was like give this place a try. I think for the amount of work they put in, it overpriced. Lesson learned next time should check with price first, but for the price I would rather hit supercut for the kids. read more
