My experience here was OK. I really liked Taylor's personality, she made the appointment time fun. The downside to my experience was my color was not what I wanted. I recognize that that can happen when you go to a salon, esp. as a dark-haired girl, but the technique for applying color was different because as Taylor said, I have curly hair, so instead of coloring the whole section, she teased more hair away and in turn, colored less. The great thing was the color took very well and lightened super easily, but because it was smaller pieces, you couldn't see the color much because it blended in with my dark hair. I've attached my photo for reference, along with the photo I showed her. No one had a noticed I got my hair colored and I really wanted to go lighter, this look is just not that. The other part was that my blow dry was not done well. I left with pieces of my root still wavy, I didn't say anything at that time because I knew I could go home to fix it, but overall as a curly headed woman, I think I'd get better attention to detail at another salon. They do great work on others, but unfortunately I just didn't feel like I got the same experience. Unfortunately I'll have to go to another salon to get the look I wanted. I think I'll also emphasize next time that even though I have curly hair, I'd like the same experience that girls with straight hair get, "color me up!" read more

Very odd experience. Made an appointment and then had to cancel when my wallet got stolen while traveling. When I booked the appointment their cancellation policy wouldn't open, so I didn't read it (might have been my phones problem). I had made the appointment online so I selected a service that I guess wasn't what I actually needed without knowing, (I'm not a hairdresser..?) and the woman on the phone was extremely weird and almost accusatory of me for not knowing what I needed. Then she demanded I read her a card off so she can charge me $50 for a cancelation fee. Not having a card or being an idiot, that clearly didn't happen. Rescheduled. Today she called me 2 days in advance to re-confirm the appointment. She then said I had missed TWO appointments and all of the sudden there was a $100 down payment. Which seemed suspicious because if I missed another appointment (that I never had in the first place) and paid their cancellation fee it would be that exact amount. Needless to say once I said I would cancel and not pay I was very quickly hung up on. Get your hair done at AZ Studio in Hingham. I've gone there all my life and only looked into switching because I moved from Cohasset to Dorchester after college. For a full set of highlights, (which I am usually extremely cautious about having previous stripy jobs done at other places) and jack really went above and beyond!! Reasonable pricing (I paid about $170/180 with toning included) and easy parking. (Only thing I might add to be helpful in the future is that the hair cutting cape things might need to be washed slightly more often as they did have a funny smell) Overall really incredible and can't compliment enough! read more

i've been way past due for a haircut for quite some time now. My hair has honestly been thru hell and back due to multiple dye jobs, from black to blonde and back to black etc etc. and i know that, with time, i'll have healthier hair again. i'm always skeptical about going to new places for haircuts. i sometimes try to put it off for as long as i possibly can but i really needed a haircut, badly. i spent countless days googling, yelping, and grouponing places to find a new salon and stylist. my sister goes to Pura Vida Salon and sees Kim and recommended i give them a try. at first i was iffy about it but i thought why not. i've had some pretty bad haircuts in the past even when asking for a trim, so i had my fingers crossed that this experience wasn't a bad one. i called at about 230 pm today to see if they had any openings. if not i wasn't really in that big of a rush to get my haircut so i wouldn't mind waiting a few days but they receptionist informed me there was an opening as early as 3pm so i took that. i live around the corner from the salon so it only took me about 3 minutes to drive there. There's street parking and parking in the back, which i opted for because i am horrible at parallel parking. it's a quaint little place, very relaxed inside and as soon as you enter you don't get the vibe of stuck up stylists overly judging people (that's a thing btw, i've been to some salons where it's practically uncomfortable to be in) i was early for my appointment by about 15 minutes so the receptionist let me know that my stylist would see me shortly. i didn't mind waiting since i was early (i know some people that get irritated for having to wait but it's their own fault for arriving earlier than their set appointment time... like cmon ppl. relax) my stylist was Ashley and she was super nice! we went over what i wanted, which was just a trim, not super short, a little longer in the front than the back and nothing more. i expressed my concern of having my hair chopped off too short and she made sure i was happy with the length before cutting it, making sure to cut a little less than what we had initially agreed on just in case. everything was perfect. from the consultation to the shampoo to the cut and blow dry. she was super friendly, but not overly talkative which i was fine with. i was able to relax and enjoy my "me time". she explained the shampoo she used on me as well as the products she used in my hair which, i've honestly never had happen before. the stylists i've been to usually just use any and all products without thoroughly explaining them to me. i've never stuck with a single hair stylist before due to it being too expensive or i just hated the cut but i really liked my haircut from Ashley and the price was average in my opinion, $39 for a wash cut and blow dry. i think i've found my stylist and i definitely see myself being a regular here! read more

Super clean and friendly salon! I scheduled my appt online as a new client for highlighting, the next morning received a call to walk me through what to expect for my services. I arrived about 15 minutes early, there is parking around back. I was greeted with coffee/drinks right away, and was seated on time for my appt. I discussed my hair goals with Sam who was very realistic on what to expect and how to achieve it given my current hair health and color. Sam went above and beyond to fix my plethora of dye jobs and give me a uniform blonde. Pricing was comparable to my experiences with other Boston area salons, but definitely less than i expected. I started going to Pura Vida based on yelp reviews and I have not been disappointed! I typically have long layers and I go to Taylor, who does a great job. For my wedding there were 7 of us who had our hair done, 4 with long hair and 3 with short hair and everyone's hair looked great, stayed in place and no one complained (which given 7 women could have happened). For my wedding up do, I met with Taylor for a practice run after picking out some pictures. She is definitely a perfectionist, which I appreciated since it WAS MY WEDDING DAY :) They let us bring in some mimosas for the wedding festivities which was awesome. I would have given the salon five stars I went there once to get a full head of highlights and a haircut and a blowout they did a great job I was really happy with my hair since it was my first time at the salon I was not aware that there was a cancellation policy I called to make an appointment to get my highlights done again and I was told that I would have to pay a $50 fee if I wanted to make a new appointment because I had booked one the last time I was there I tried to explain that I was not aware of this policy and I've only been to the salon once I was in New York and I was not notified that I had an appointment... it was only my second time going and I would have wanted to go regularly but because they would not waive the 50$ fee I'm disappointed. I haven't had time to really review this salon. However I have been meaning too I have been getting my hair done for years, YEARS. I am not a hair stylist or professional by any means, but I know my stuff. I have had my hair done in the biggest cities across the country by some of the best salons. I moved here and needed to find a salon. The hairstylists I had here were great, this is nothing personal. The salon is the issue. The mother of the owner, wow rude as all can be, entitlement to say the least. I do not know why mama dearest was on a high horse, but holy shit, you are a receptionist, relax. She, alone would of been the reason I stopped going but that was not it. I was getting my hair done and the color they applied lasted maybe 2 weeks. My grays were extremely visible, fast, i mean record fast. The color did not last. When I asked what they used, they said " its a natural, organic product" well that was the reason I was going back every 4 weeks. Which has never ever happened to me before. They tried to convince me that the hair changes, and really, I almost believed it was me. I started going to aa different salon and all of a sudden I am back to normal, the products lasted my typical 2 months. I am so happy I left them, and did not fall for their poor quality products that did not last . I did not want to have to give them anymore money with my business. I suggest going somewhere better, with better quality products, where you can get more bang for your buck and not have to go back so frequently just to maintain it due to their "organic products". read more

The salon is very clean and everyone is so nice. I had a cut and color with Sam and she did an amazing job. The great thing about Sam was that she actually took the time to understand what it was I wanted and explained what we needed to do to fix what my last stylist did/reach my hair goals. She also does a great job at managing your expectations so you are both on the same page. I recently moved to the area from out from state and was nervous about finding a new salon and stylist. Let me tell you, I am so happy we moved here because Taylor is the GREATEST stylist I have ever had, Hands Down! I absolutely love the cut and style she gave me! She is so talented! She listened to everything I said I was looking for and gave me a style greater than I imagined. She is super knowledgable about all the products she was using in my hair and explained to me the different techniques she was doing to cut and style it. This place doesn't deserve one star to begin with. Do not let these 5 star reviews or those bs awards at the salon's reception fool you. My hair was beautiful and long down to my lower back when I walked in. I came out of the salon with a horrible haircut and my hair completely damaged due to the balayage Ashley did in the first session. Before the session started I showed a picture on pinterest of the layered style I wanted and after the first cut, it looked like Ashley just chopped the end of my hair off and there was no deep V shape. After she attempted to get the V shape I wanted for the second time, my hair looked so uneven and at that point I couldn't let her do anything else to my hair. I wasn't notified that the price went from $175 to $230 until I got to the reception desk to pay. I came back to the salon and spoke to the manager privately about the service and it only made me more pissed off and annoyed because she wasn't keeping it real when I asked her some questions. I ended up asking for the owner to reach out to me. I was told by the manager that the owner would give me a call but instead I got an weak email. Based on what was said in the email, the owner pretty much took her employees' words and ran with it instead of putting the effort to call me and understand why I was mad. not surprised!! I couldn't go back for the second session to finish up the coloring process because the owner couldn't, or I should say didn't want to accommodate my needs when I asked from her and the manager through email. The owner asked me what I needed the salon to do so my experience could be a great one. I replied back with a list of what I need for my second session, and basically what I got from the owner in a "professional" way was... yea we tried to resolve your problem, but we ain't gona deal with you anymore, here's your haircut money and you can't come back. If you're pissed off of the result like I was and give them a hard time like I did, the whole salon will gang up on you instead of keeping it real and admit that they fucked up. So to solve the problem quick, they have decided to only send me a check for the haircut which was $40 and kept $190 to themselves, while my hair is left hanging with an uneven color and a messed up haircut. I was so close file a small claim against this salon. I came back to ask for the receipt and asked for the names of the ppl I spoke to so I could start the process and one employee was smart enough to figure out my moves and refused to tell me her name. Later I decided to let this bs go because this salon isn't worth my time. I ended up getting my haircut fixed at another salon and took me nearly a year later to find another stylist and finally got the level 9 blonde I wanted in just one long session. if you're asian, especially if you tryna color your hair, DO NOT COME TO THIS SALON!!!! these stylists don't fully understand asian hair because they're all white, which explains why they fucked up my hair real bad read more

I booked Courtney as the stylist for my wedding on Cape Cod. She does my hair in her salon and was willing to travel for my large wedding party. There was a lot of bridesmaids, moms, etc and Courtney did an amazing job on everyone! She listened to requests and even came with a bunch of suggestions. Courtney is a blast to be around, worked quickly without rushing anyone, and I couldn't have been happier with my hair (and everyone else's) on the day of my wedding. I stopped in for a reallllly last minute but much needed haircut and Taylor was able to graciously accommodate me as a first time client. My haircut came out better than I ever expected. I had this weird short-layer (read: borderline mullet) thing going on that I was trying to get rid of (along with a TON of dead ends and damage) and through some technique she used, she was able to even it out without even cutting too much off the bottom. Three weeks later, I still look like a just got a fresh cut. This haircut was better than the ones I used to get on Newbury Street and at less than half the cost of those overpriced "pro's". I'm a very happy regualr customer to Pura Vida. I travel over an hour every 6 weeks or so! ;) I started off seeing a trainee because it was a great deal as a model. She has since graduated to a full stylist and I still go to see her. Courtney ( the owner) trains her staff amazingly and always has a smile and great attitude to everyone. All the staff here are really nice and seem to be really talented from what I can see when I visit. However, I only see Kelly, because she just gets my hair and style but I'd be comfortable with any of the stylists here. I have been thrilled with every cut and color I have had. I had a cut and balayage with Britney, and the experience was just ok. The cut was fine (though I have long straight hair so it was a basic cut). My issue was with the color. I recently had a baby, and had spent very little time on myself, so I thought a change in hair color would be fun and a nice treat for me. I brought in multiple pictures of what I was looking for. The result was not horrible, but was VERY subtle, like so subtle that no one could tell that I did anything to my hair. Not sure why I spent over $100 to have my hair look exactly the same. The look was nothing like the pictures, and at no point did she say that she couldn't get it to look like what I had wanted. She had another color client at the same time, and it sort of seemed like she was rushing through mine so she could finish both without staying late. Only bright side is that it was so subtle that I don't have to do any touch up so I guess I'll just stick with my natural color and save some money. read more

She recommended products, and ways to style and add volume to my hair. I didn't feel pressured to buy product, and she was very easy to talk to. Really wanted to like this place and would love to add a good review, especially since it's owned by a young hairstylist and I like to support new businesses in Braintree. Unfortunately I can't do that and here's why: I had a "living social" coupon for a haircut and color so decided to give it a try When I called,mentioned the coupon and made the appointment. My hair was colored and cut by a stylist who dyed my roots darker than the rest of my hair. My haircut was just average, not even the kind of bangs I had pointed out in a magazine. (The usual "it's just that your hair is different from the model's" was readily available afterwards, which I see as the poor excuse of a mediocre stylist) Anyway,I am easy going and non confrontational so I proceeded to pay. I presented the coupon and after a long wait where they were searching their system, I was asked to pay an additional $20!!! This never ever happened to me before, even at more expensive places,(where they clearly loose money but hope to gain customers) they just accept the coupon and thank you for your business. After all they are the ones who made a deal with "living social" and agreed to the amount of the coupon The owner's explanation was that they had gloss added to my color. Up to that moment, nobody had mentioned the word "gloss" or "extra money" despite the fact they knew up front that I was using the coupon Courtney (the owner) quickly added that that was the reason they didn't want to do business with the coupon company "because of the way they worded it and not the way we wanted it". And what did I have to do with this? Did you after all agree to accept the coupon??? If not, why wasn't I informed up front? Here was the excuse of the bad businesswoman, "always blame the other company, it's never my fault for being greedy" I felt embarrassed and helpless. I said nothing of the above, paid the extra 20 and left feeling disappointed and being taken advantage of Maybe the owner felt it was her chance to stiff the coupon users but she is oblivious to the fact that those clients can become either regulars or a distant memory; depending on her services and honesty (or lack of it) I am sorry Courtney, but the fastest way to make money is not by taking advantage of clients and stiffing coupon companies you made an agreement with. Best in Braintree! This salon has everything you could want: great prices, friendly and talented staff and beautiful decor. And a convenient location with ample parking on street and behind building. They offer a sweet "thank you" bag after your appointment - sample sized Pureology products - and referral cards which gets you AND your referral 20% off services! I've been twice and had a great experience both times. Once was for bridal party updos and Courtney (salon owner) and Alex were able to handle many clients without getting stressed. Everyone looked beautiful when they left! Courtney wanted the bride to feel her best all day long - offering to be available for touchups at her home, church and reception. You can tell she genuinely cared about the bride's happiness with her wedding day hair (an experience that I did not have with another Braintree salon on my wedding day...
