Horrible experience sitting and waiting to get serviced. Everybody in the waiting room got called in more people came in and all went in to get their imaging done.. after being told from the beginning it would be a 45 minute wait we asked again and told it was another 45 minute wait. After another group of people all came in and got service. It was an hour and a half later went up and asked again, and they finally came out and took us in. make an appointment you can do it for the same day. Do not go in as standby. . Don't believe the lie that it will be 45 minutes make an appointment and don't put up with a BS. read more

I gave birth here last week and I was blown away by these facilities. Each birthing room is fully equipped with a queen sized bed, private bathroom and shower, small table and chairs, and all of the standard medical equipment used during and after the birth. The facility is designed to accommodate whatever type of birth is planned/necessary - unmedicated, epidural, or C-section (C-sections are done in a separate operating room down the hall). I personally chose to have an unmedicted birth. The hospital is designed to be very supportive of unmedicted births. They have blow-up jacuzzi tubs that can be set up upon request, and they have peanut balls and squat stools to accommodate different pushing positions. They have wireless fetal monitors so you can still move around while being monitored. The midwives from OC Women's Medical Group are on call here so you have the option of choosing either a midwife or doctor as your care provider. Another nice thing is they have great food service! They brought us a celebration meal after our baby was born, which included the choice of a fancy entree, a couple sides, sparkling cider and a dessert (we got chocolate cheesecake and it was amazing). It added a nice touch to this special moment in our lives. read more

We have our patient in the ortho unit. Horrible experience with uneducated staff. Did not care to know about the patient and reason for hospitalization. Every shift was more unaware than the next ! Barely saw any doctor come in for short few minutes! Ordered the wrong wheelchair because again did not read patients issues! Refusing to discharge us with their own wheelchair despite waiting to be discharged for some time ! Told staff that I'll bring their wheelchair back tomorrow morning but they said no! Never encountered so many horrible nurses back to back ! read more

I'm excited to write this review bc I really wished that something like this existed before I went into labor! But the Fudge suites are really new, so it's understandable that I'm the first. Overall, really great hospital, and if you can give birth here do it. I think there are only 9 rooms so it's hard to get in. The rooms and amenities are well stocked and feel like a hotel. No need to bring your own pillows, blankets, diapers, underwear, pacifiers, towels--it's all provided. The nurses are great, I really liked my anesthesiologist (mr coelly I think), and dr. Young was super straightforward and knowledgeable. I had to get an emergency c section and she was very clear and decisive with us. It was definitely the right decision even though it was scary at the time. I'd like to call out nurse Yaya as being especially helpful, especially with breastfeeding. She has a lot of experience and gave us a lot of tricks to get started. Also, nurse Olive was very comforting and capable. The food is not great. Try to order things that a cafeteria can't mess up. I think the burger, the tortilla soup, and the breakfast bagel/English muffin were the best things we ate. The celebratory meal however was delicious! Hoag also sent us off with a goodie bag full of amenities and a fabulous robe! Labor and delivery is one of the hardest things I've done in my life but I felt safe and as comfortable as possible at Hoag Fudge. Do not come here! One of the worst experiences ever! After taking some time to think things over, Ive decided I was ready to write a review. Brief backstory: After debating over Hoag Newport (Great reputation) or Hoag Irvine (New Fudge Family Suite) we decided Irvine because our OB told us we would have a guaranteed stay at the Fudge Suite to deliver our first child. She said this was because of the type of insurance we had. Well, that ended up to be a lie and one of the worst decisions we have ever made. On 8/23/22 at 3am - my wife started to have contractions. by 5am her contractions were 5-1-1, so we called the hospital and they told us to head in. When we got there, we were greeted by warm hospital staff and triaged by Nurse Kendall (who was awesome). by 7am we were officially admitted and transferred to the New Fudge Suite. - Great so far. Nurse Brittany (Our Suite nurse) was on top of things and very welcoming. My wife dilated to 9 1/2 cm and almost 100% effaced within hours. Nurse Brittany got off shift and we ended up with Nurse Jem who was obviously very new. She needed help from the more senior nurses and did not know how to do a lot of things. (which we were fine with since everyone starts somewhere). So, hours go by and my wife's body did not progress any further, So the OB on duty suggested she pop her water to hopefully get her body going - which we agreed to. Hours later of constant pushing under Nurse Jem's direction, our baby's heart rate would drop (3 separate occasions) whenever my wife would push. The OB who was very busy and checked on us occasionally, told us the baby was too high and her head might be in the wrong position. She suggested we consider a C-Section because my wife's water had been broken for too long and she was possibly getting an infection... Ok so now a C-Section... (We went from super excited to meeting our first child to extremely stressed and scared). On 8/24/22 my wife underwent a C- Section. At 1:08 am, my daughter was born. My wife however, was so drugged up she was not able to fully experience this occasion or even talk for that matter (Maybe this is normal?). They close her us and we all go back to the Fudge Suite as a new family so my wife can get some rest and recovers from the major surgery. -This is where everything went completely to trash- LITTLE DO WE KNOW, AT 5 AM. Nurses come in and tell us the charge nurse is moving us out of the suite...They try to get my wife up into a wheel chair and she faints. (SHE JUST HAD SURGERY not to mention all the PUSHING she did prior! She was exhausted!!!) They decided to give her until 7AM before trying to move her again... Seriously!? Throughout this whole time we did not complain and just did as they asked since they are the "Professionals." On 8/24/22 at 730AM the hospital assistant came in with a modified wheel chair so they could cart my wife out of her bed and dump her into a wheelchair to haul her upstairs. We get to room 6130, which seemed like the smallest room they could find. Our room nurses Edna and Kelsie were nice, I'll give them that. However, I had to repeatedly ask for things (Pain management meds for the wife, not luxury items... ) since they would often forget or were just too busy. We spent the next 2 days in this broom closet with minor interaction from the nurses. At this point we just wanted to leave but needed to wait to be discharged. It breaks my heart that my wife was in so much pain and received such a poor care from this hospital. On 8/26/22 at 12pm we were discharged. As a first responder myself, I understand being busy, short staffed, etc etc. but WOW. Hopefully, for your sake this was a one off experience but DO NOT COME HERE. GO TO HOAG NEWPORT!!! We had a scheduled induction on March 9, 2022 at 1 am. We confirmed our appointment via MyChart App and arrived at 1 am. We had also called to confirm that we were allowed 2 support persons and doula. The security guard took our temperatures and verified my two support persons COVID19 vaccination cards. We left our car parked at the front waiting area while we checked in. The Birthing suites are on the first floor to the left of the entrance which makes it easy to go in and out for any items left in the car. Upon arrival and before being checked in we had to sign admission and payment paperwork. Our nurse came out to get us about 15 minutes after arrival. We recorded the entire process with our GoPro except record/photograph any employees. When she took us in to our room we made ourselves comfortable and set up baby's crib, dad's resting area, my moms area, and placed our snacks and my electrolyte drinks in the fridge. Per our doula fruits, protein bars, and electrolyte/hydrating drinks were recommended during labor and delivery. The nurses nor my doctor wanted me to have a heavy or full meal to avoid any complications later during active labor. I came in at stage -3/ 0 % effaced/ .5 centimeters and 37 weeks 3 days pregnant. We gave the nurses a thank you box full of goodies and our birth plan. During labor & delivery the nurses explained the methods of induction and what they were going to do next. They were extremely respectful of my decisions, caring, and empathetic. We started with cytotec, proceeded with a foley balloon, and eventually with pitocin. They did not Insist on an epidural they simply mentioned that if I needed one to be conscientious of the time it takes to administer. I ended up getting an epidural after 20 hours in labor and had my baby within 20 mins of having an epidural! The gentleman who administered was gentle and explained every step of the process. I did not feel a single thing and it was the best thing I could have asked for. I wanted to have a less invasive induction and a positive induction experience. Which was achieved! I delivered a safe and healthy baby by 10 pm. We had a celebratory meal for mom and dad the following day. We also enjoyed their tea service every afternoon. I had overly packed my bags with perineal care but the hospital provided all of that there. Like so, diapers and baby clothing are provided by the hospital. During labor I used their peanut and birthing ball. I had purchased robes, that I ended up not using. Their robes were pretty comfy and different than other hospital robes. The next day, we were moved from the first floor to the 6th floor because they needed to make space for incoming moms. This is when my entire experience went down hill. If I could rate it as a 0 stars, I would but the wonderful delivery experience downstairs deserves to be recognized. Mrs. Foss, Courtney, Sherry, etc were nurturing and amazing during my labor. The nurses upstairs were not as professional, empathetic, nor friendly. We had to wait 2 days to get a car seat challenge because our baby was born on the small side. We had a nurse mention that we're not going to be able to go home again for the 3rd day because they didn't have anyone to conduct the assessment. They were going to do air for a NICU child to be discharged for my baby to be assessed. I found it infuriating that the other NICU nurses could take care of other children but couldn't conduct a 90 min screening on my child. This was the only assessment needed so we can go home. Our discharge (Caucasian) nurse made a microaggressive comment that I found absolutely inappropriate and unnecessary. My baby had jaundice and she said, "since she doesn't have perfect fair skin like mine you can't see the jaundice." We are Hispanic and have pigmented skin complexion, yet that doesn't mean we can't see our baby's yellowish skin complexion due to jaundice. That unconscious and insensitive comment was absurd and bigoted. We hope that after the hospital sees this comment they offer multicultural training to their employees to promote a more inclusive and diverse environment like Hoag Newport and the city we live in, Irvine. read more

I had a bad experience with them because they sent a bill to a debt collector without ever billing me. The people working here are great, as is the quality. However, different medical groups work at the hospital, and they don't tell you that a particular doctor is part of a medical group that is supposed to send a separate bill. Well a very nice doctor helping me worked for an emergency radiology group, but they never sent me a bill, so it went to straight to a debt collector without any warning whatsoever. It was for just $50. They never billed me for it. Went straight to collections. What kind of company does that to a customer? read more

I'm writing this review because I had my first daughter here back in 2021 and just had my second daughter here a few days ago. Both babies born via c-section, the first more emergent and the second scheduled. My first time at the hospital I was planning on a non medicated (or as long as I could go unmedicated birth) with midwife care in the Fudge Family Suites. Very quickly things turned into an emergency due to preeclampsia and babies heart rate dropping. We ended up with a c section and had great care and enjoyed the stay in the very large birth suite. This time around was a little different because Hoag Irvine has become a very popular place to have babies! With the scheduled c section I knew I would not see the fudge family suites this time around and be taken to a room on the postpartum floor after surgery. I had some anxiety about this due to 1 or 2 reviews I read on here but I am here to tell you that even through the room was smaller the care was not lesser. The room has everything we needed, a bathroom, TV, comfy Bed, large window and let's be real after a c section you don't need a lot of space. You can also make friends with the nurses and walk the hall if you need to get moving. I want to assure people reading these reviews that The nursing team at Hoag Irvine was truly amazing and provided excellent round the clock care post c section. Some of the nurses who cared for me were Alyssa S, Jenna E, Bernadette, Melanie, Rachael, Kelsey and Sarah A. From the intake nurses to my exit the nurses took the best care of me and my second daughter. Dr.James and the midwife team were outstanding and love how they shaped my experience for this second birth story to be so peaceful, smooth and successful. The only tiny downfall was that my poor husband had to sleep on a tiny pullout chair but he's a champ and didn't complain - but that's literally the only thing that could be improved. The hospital is under construction and will re open in a few years - perhaps making it the very best of the suites and postpartum rooms for all! Definitely consider this hospital and team for a wonderful birthing experience. read more

We had our first at Saddleback and had a wonderful experience there as first time parents. With baby 2, our Dr had moved to Orange Coast Women's Group which also delivers through Hoag Irvine. I'd never been to the facility, but our Dr recommended we look into the brand new Fudge Family Birthing Suites. Our doula had also never delivered there, but we looked into it knowing Saddleback would be our backup. The facility itself is extremely impressive. Our Dr transferred us to the midwife team and the midwife rooms were exactly what we were looking for. The pre-registration process was easily completed online. The cashier called a week prior to my due date to discuss the hospital fees and billing policies. On the big night, our doula arrived just before us and made sure we were checked in. They sent a "welcoming team" to the curb to help be in during contractions. The room was beautiful with a little garden and a nice large bed. I was hoping to labor in the shower, but baby came so fast we didn't need it. The nurses were amazing the entire time. A lactation consultant came by every day to check on feeding and give tips. They staff were attentive and made sure we were always fed and I had plenty of supplies. Our discharge was easy and I was given a wonderful postpartum gift that I actually use. The hospital even followed up a week later. Hoag also offers new moms an app and help line as added resources. This is for anything mom, baby, or breastfeeding related. They really go above and beyond. read more

I delivered my first baby girl here with the incredible midwives from orange coast women's medical group - shoutout to bre who was amazing! And my favorite nurse while laboring, Britney. Seriously these two were my favorite part of my labor. Also, the facility is beautiful and clean, which is so important. I was comfortable during my laboring! Cons- they wanted to use my room for another woman the day I labored my baby. They said I'd get a bigger bed so my husband could sleep with us. I had a really hard recovery from some birth complications and could hardly sit or even lay down, but I ended up moving all of my stuff to this bigger room. They forgot to mention to me that the bed was stuck in upright position and that someone stole the remote to it, so the first night after having a baby and serious procedure, my husband and I were 'sleeping' in an upright position when I was comfortable in my other room. The postpartum nurse I had was rude and not empathetic of my condition. She was loudly taking on the cell phone while pushing my wheelchair while I was emotionally leaving the hospital with my new baby for the first time, meant to be special. She also wouldn't help me to the bathroom when I couldn't even stand up on my own after the procedure, I needed my husband to help. There is no lactation consultant here. My milk was very delayed and I really wish they had a consultant physically there to help a new mom. Lastly, I was supposed to be on pain medication after my intense procedure. It was vaguely brought up, but no one told me it was prescribed or when/how to take them. I went 5 days of unbearable pain, unable to leave my bed or bond with my baby until I was told I was prescribed pain medication. Small note- the TVs have a remote and that's where the sound comes out of. You can't really hear very well, so if you plan on watching tv or a movie it's very difficult to hear especially with a partner. Good luck to all the moms out there! Had a scheduled induction here recently. I chose this hospital over Newport Hoag and Saddleback due to the birthing suites advertised online. I've delivered at Hoag Newport with my other children and was very pleased with their service so I assumed I would receive the same service here. On the first floor at the suites, the entire staff was very caring, professional and attentive. After delivery, I was told I had to move to the sixth floor to make room for other patients. It was like night and day! It literally felt like I went from the Four Seasons to a Motel 6! The rooms were tiny and very old, my husband, myself and my new baby were barely able to fit! The worst part was the level of service from the staff! The nurses on the 6th floor were very rude and did not even compare to the level of professionalism that the 1st floor nurses had. Very disappointed with my experience! Hopefully future mother's see this and think twice before choosing this hospital to have their baby. read more

i am finally writing my review! i gave birth on 2-2-22. i loved my birthing experience here. i didnt have a hard time getting in at all (even with giving birth 3 weeks early) at Hoag Irvine. my midwife was amazing & the room was spacious. she set up a great ambience with fairy lights & a speaker. i got to order food & whatever else i needed. they brought a pool into my room which helped my pain TREMENDOUSLY (i have an extremely low pain tolerance). it truly was the only thing that helped me cope with the pain. i did not get an epidural. the nurses were so encouraging & helpful (non-judgmental). i was worried about being too loud (again, low pain tolerance) but they kept telling me i was doing a good job & helping me get through the push. i appreciated the type of environment the hospital provided (not forcing medications/procedures onto me). for example, ASKING if they could check my dilation instead of TELLING me they're going to check. i attribute that to a seasoned midwife who seemed to be able to tell right when i was going to have to push. she pulled me out of the pool at the right time & i pushed in whatever position i wanted to. this was my first & i was terrified of something going wrong so im grateful my midwife stayed w my birth plan. she didnt try to sway me in the moment or do her own thing. my baby stayed in the room with me the entire time. never left my sight they did all their tests & vitals in the room. i received a postpartum gift bag from the hospital for the baby & i. we got a celebratory meal which was quite good. i still use the products in it from campo. i thought it was a lovely touch since they are quality products. some cons 1. the on call pediatrician was very much ditsy & didnt seem to know where she could find anything so that worried me a little bit. i was worried about my baby's ear & she was not very thorough in her explanations just very vaguely told me to massage it out. 2. i think they need to coordinate their billing & insurance ppl with their patients a bit better. i thought i was all good to go from the very beginning of my prenatal care. come to find out (at the hospital after laboring forever) that my labor was not covered, only my prenatal care. thats more my insurance's fault for not conveying that sooner but it could've also been helpful for the hospital to seek pre approval or say hey this is happening in a few months just making sure we're good because on my end everything was good to go. definitely some unnecessary stress for the postpartum period. read more
