Had a procedure here, the other day. Let's face it, nobody wants to be here, but certain procedures need to happen for preventative care. I received high quality care, and the front office was pleasant at 6:30am! Overall, I had a good experience. I was treated with friendly demeanor, and I felt valued as a patient. Front office experience was awesome. I checked in and during check in process I kindly mentioned to the front desk that I had never had a co-pay before and was surprised that I had a co-pay now. The front office person I wish I could remember her name because she was so great said allow me to check on that for you and why don't you keep your credit card and just let me check on that. A few minutes later, the Insurance person came over and apologized and said it was an error after double checking and I appreciated that the insurance person took responsibility without blaming someone else. And I really appreciate it the front office person going above and beyond and double checking because she certainly didn't have to do that. I was willing to pay the Co-pay that was the first positive experience. The next was the nurses in the recovery room. They were just kind patient and overall fantastic. My PCP ordered a preventative colonoscopy for me a few months ago. I dragged my feet a little before scheduling it because I had another procedure scheduled in February. So, after I was out of danger for the first procedure, I scheduled the colonoscopy with Dr. Catherine Ngo in March. BTW, March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, so get your screenings done! I had a friend who got his and because insurance deemed it medically necessary as opposed to preventive, he was charged $3K! So, moral of the story is, get yours done when your doctor refers you to do so. Dr. Ngo's office sent a prescription for Suprep to my pharmacy for pickup. I was given a 7 am appointment so I was the first patient of the day. They advised me to arrive at 6 am for check-in. We arrived shortly before 6 am and parked right in front. There were already a few people in the waiting room when we arrived who also had early appointments. So, prior to my appointment, I was on a low-fiber diet for a few days before doing just liquid diet 24-hours before my procedure. Man, it is rough for a foodie to go from solid to liquids. Let me just say that the bowel prep is no joke. It's like you gave yourself food poisoning on purpose. It is not for the light-hearted. Needless to say, I did not sleep all that well the evening before my procedure, so I was looking forward to that drug-induced nap. I checked in at the front with the receptionist. She made a copy of my ID, insurance card, and had me sign a few statements before proceeding. They wanted a urine sample, so I provided one and returned to the waiting room. I was called into the back room shortly afterwards to meet my nurse Julia and change out of my clothes. She let me keep my watch and iPhone on me. After that, she took my blood pressure and readied my arm for an IV. The surgical team stopped by to introduce themselves. I met with the anesthesiologist and two more nurses before being wheeled into the operating room. I met Dr. Ngo there and she asked me if I had any questions. I did not have any questions. She proceeded to explain the procedure, so I understood what was going to happen. Then they had me turn over on my side before sticking a pillow behind me and sedating me. Next thing I knew, I was waking up and informed I had to get dressed. Once dressed, I found my shoes and the nurse came back with a wheelchair to wheel me outside to meet my husband at the car. I was home before 8 am. It was a whirlwind, and I'd like to say the everything went according to plan. Thanks to the staff at Hoag Irvine Endoscopy for such a seamless experience. Terrible place. Small waiting room, rude staff. My husband went in for a colonoscopy. Afterward, I was told to pick him up outside. What? In EVERY colonoscopy we've had, the spouse is asked in to the recovery area while the results are explained to the groggy patient. Not so here... I was told to drive to pickup area where I waited another 30 minutes for them to wheel him out. Awful place, worse than the imaging center across the street. AVOID HOAG! They run a poorly-coordinated production line and provide sub-optimal service. read more

Then I received an email saying arrive at 5:30am I arrived at 5:20 so did another patient but the facility didn't open until 6:00. And even at that didn't open until after 6. Why ask people to arrive that early in the morning if no one is there!!!!! And at 6:30 we were all still waiting in the lobby. Do better Hoag. If no one is there why ask us to arrive at that hour. read more

My comments have more to do with the facility. Only 2- 1 person bathrooms for an endoscopy waiting room where patients have been prepping all night and have urgent bathroom needs? That's a problem. For a fairly new facility this was not well planned out. "Behind the curtain" was bright and loud. Also not conducive to patients who are hungry, tired, on edge and in my case had a severe headache. The computer system was NOT mychart, which is the HOAG patient system, so my medications had to be input, which could have been supplied earlier thru their portal. Also the staff in the recovery area seemed rushed and short. I was told to dress laying on the bed, which was difficult and uncomfortable. I was also told to contact my ride (because their computer system was down), which was not a problem, but then it turned out I was not ready to go since the Dr had not met with me yet and took quite sometime to accomplish. After I met with the Dr, it was assumed I had my discharge instructions, but they had not been given to me. Overall, it just seemed disorganized. It felt more like a colonoscopy mill rather than a facility providing compationate care, which is what i expect from Hoag. Yes, they did what they needed to do but it felt very cold (not air temp) and robotic. On the plus side, the prep instructions were clear, Dr Hwang and her staff were nice and efficient. read more

I was beyond impressed with the efficiency of the entire staff at this center. Well done and great team work! This review is solely based on my own personal experience. Planned procedure: Colonoscopy Arrival time: 10:30am Schedule time: 12:00pm **NOTE: Have your completed questionnaire with you before going to avoid delays when you get there. I was given a ID band, which the girl at the front desk placed on my wrist. I was called shortly after by the RN and taken to the pre-screening/holding area around 11:00am where I changed into a gown and IV was placed (awesome skills by the RN finding a vein on me!). Keep in mind, this was my first ever preventative screening colonoscopy, so my nerves were in 5th gear! Met the anesthesiologist, who explained everything in her sweet and calming voice (totally lessened my anxiousness). Soon after, I was wheeled to the procedure room at 11:30am where I was greeted by the wonderful gastroenterologist, who even made sure I was comfy (so sweet, he adjusted my pillow!). The last thing I heard him tell me was, "Have a good nap, and we'll take good care of you!" (made me laugh and lessened my anxiousness even more). Woke up to great news that everything went well. I asked for the first available appointment and was given 8:00 AM. Scheduler said to arrive 1 hr before my appointment. I got two text messages confirming 8 AM. Showed up a little before 7. The receptionist says "you're a little early". I reply "I'm usually a little early". I wait. I wait. At 8:20 I go back to reception. I tell them about my appointment time. The second receptionist says "oh, your procedure is at 9:30". Suprised, I show her my text messages "why do these all say 8?" She doesn't know. First receptionist chimes in with "oh that's the time you're supposed to arrive--it's 1 hr...(realizes that doesn't add up) uh, I mean 1.5 hours before your appointment time. The doctor needs you early". I told her I made the appointment for 8 and the scheduler was very specific about me coming in 1 hr early. Her response? "Oh you probably just messed it up". Seriously? Now it's 8:45 and I'm still sitting here, waiting for something to happen. Apparently the doctor doesn't "need me early". Colonoscopies suck but they suck more when you get the runaround... read more

Colonoscopy. Very well organized. Drop patient off at door. It will take approximately 2 hours. True to their word, they will call you when patient is 30 minutes from leaving. Patient stated they were treated well, staff was attentive, Dr. Guzman remains awesome. There is a nice, side area/pull in area by a side exit door. Young receptionist barely made eye contact when checking me in early morning this week. She sounded like a robot reading a script that wasn't happy with her job. Another coworker came to show her something on her phone during my check in which was unprofessional, rude and tacky. IDK why the doctor talks to a patient immediately after a colonoscopy when the patient is still under anesthesia! Dr. Ngo had to repeat info to me because I wasn't aware due to anesthesia. I did not care for this center nor do they care much for patients. I felt pushed in and out like a cattle. Next!! What a lame place. read more

I didn't have a good experience, it was borderline dangerous . Shortly after my procedure, when I was under anestesia influence, they put me on a wheelchair waiting for someone to give me a ride home. I sat on a corner without any supervision, and I almost got crushed by my wheelchair tipping over when I dropped my paperwork on the floor and I tried to pick it up. Fortunately, someone just a few feet's away saw the wheelchair about to fall and helped me. I am in disbelief what happened to me today. DDC of OC in Irvine made my colonoscopy and endoscopy much easier. Starting with reception, they were friendly and knowledgeable. I was called back to pre-op on time by my Pre Op RN Melody who was friendly and helped calm my nerves. Her directions were easy to follow, I loved her bedside manner and absolute confidence in the staff, Dr Jen and Dr Lee. My pre op time was less than 10 minutes and the procedures were only about 28 minutes! My OR RN Justin, was also kind and kept me calm. My OR Tech Alondra, was confident and kind which also calmed my nerves up until Dr Jen, my anesthesiologist, who also had a great bedside manner, had me asleep. Dr. Jen told me exactly what he was going to do and how quickly I would wake up. Everything he said was spot on and I actually felt fantastic upon waking. Dr. Paul Lee performed the procedures and I couldn't have found a better doctor! My Post Op RN Jillian was just as amazing as the rest of the staff. She made sure I understood all of the post op instructions and reminded me to take it easy with my food choices when I said I was going for a huge meal because I was quite hungry when I woke up. From arrival to departure I felt cared for and that I mattered to every staff member. I was ridiculously scared of the procedures and nobody judged me for my fears, they all worked together as a team to make sure I was comforted and truly seen. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience there. I am recommending DDC of OC to friends and family and will be using that location again when needed. read more

I can't recommend them high enough after being seen a several different centers over the years. They are on time which if you spend a lot of time at medical facilities is very refreshing. read more

Loved my experience with Dr. DeGuzman. He and his team are great at what they do and made me very comfortable during my procedure. However, I spoke with the office a few times asking them if they had the information from insurance and if they can tell me how much I will owe out of pocket after the co-pay. They told me $0. That was not true at all. I was sent a bill for over $1500. I had told them that if I owed more than the $250 co-pay, I would need to push back the procedure because I am a student paying for my classes out of pocket. Asked if I should confirm with my insurance company. They told me that everything is covered and I only have a co-pay. That wasn't even close to the truth. Highly recommend just not trusting their office and calling your insurance yourself. The absolute only good thing about their billing department is a woman named Madeline, who is beyond patient with an angry customer like me. It was hard to get information from them, but she provided what she could and went out of her way to email me the information I asked for (because I want everything in writing from now on with them). In the end, I had a heavy bill, but she helped me get on an 8-month payment plan. Either way, Hoag is unreliable. Cover your ass and get everything on paper when you ask for information or talk to them. Go through the hassle of calling your insurance to confirm bills before going in..... Or just go somewhere else. Literally anywhere else will give you proper billing information. read more

I did my appointment for colonoscopy, I read the yelp reviews and I got scared. After last week procedure I promised myself to write about my experience at Hoag Endoscopy center in Irvine. From the first moment everybody was very helpful. Mike, Brian prepared me for the procedure. Made me feel good, very calm. Meeting Dr Jason Johnson, anesthesiologist and Dr Paul Lee who did the colonoscopy made me feel that I am in good hand. Both of them were very nice, caring and knowledgeable. My fear disappeared in seconds. I slept during the procedure, I don't remember anything. I woke up being back in the room where I changed. Dr Lee came, talked about the successful procedure. Gave me advices and I was done. No fear, no pain just happiness that everything went so smooth. Now I know that I chose the right Endoscopy center with great staff members. read more

Referred for colonoscopy ~ scheduling staff completely screwed up my time. I was supposed to check in at 1:30 for a 2:30 procedure. I got a call the day before. They called to confirm and gave me a check in time of 12:30 instead of 1:30. I asked, "Are you sure?" Remember they called me to confirm my already scheduled time. Scheduler insisted I needed to be there at 12:30 that my apt was at 1:30. So I show up on time based on what the scheduler directed me even though the PA gave me a printout with the correct initial time. Must have driver so had my husband take 4 hrs off work to be here. I am a nurse soon to be doctor - I took the day off precepting at Mission to be here. So my patients' time as well. She apologized when I called the number to prove they had made the phone call when she tried to pin it on the other office. Then they offered to check me in after checking in all the other patients. When I went back to the desk and asked if I could check in now, she said, "no we will check you in when we call you." Terribly incompetent staff who have a happy smile but really don't give a care about inconveniencing the patient. I'm in healthcare and this would not fly in our office. Perhaps check the qualifications before hiring schedulers and front office staff next time Hoag. Zero stars for customer service for Hoag Endoscopy, Irvine. read more

I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy here two days ago. Everyone I came into contact with, from the screeners in the lobby to the ladies at the reception desk who checked me in, was friendly, efficient, and professional. The nurses who prepped me took the time to explain things and answer all my questions. They were gentle and capable. (I hardly felt the IV go in; no bruise afterward. Thank you Jaselle.) If you need an endoscopy, this is the place! From the moment I walked into their endoscopy center, everybody knew their job. They were organized, professional & they gained my confidence since everybody did their job well; they passed the ball & nobody fumbled. They run a tight ship, but they didn't skimp on courtesy & every step was thoroughly explained. For example, Nurse Hillary placed my hand IV. The hand is very sensitive and I have had horrifically painful & repeated stabs in the past at other facilities, so I didn't have high hopes. However, nurse Hillary exceeded my expectations. Only one poke, it was perfectly placed and I barely felt the needle! This was my first upper endoscopy. Admittedly I was frightened. I have a deviated septum & severe sleep apnea, so I worry whenever I go under anesthetic. My anesthesiologist Dr. Smith was aware of my concerns, so she came to talk to me. Dr. Smith gave me 1mg of versed which I've have never had before, but it completely relaxed me. Dr. Smith explained that I was only going under twilight sleep and not full general anesthetic, and she put my mind at ease. Nurse Amber took over once I was in the surgical suite and afterwards. She was the one who wheeled me to the patient pick up location outside the facility. I met Dr. Bemanian just before the procedure. He was a lot younger than I expected, but he seemed very focused and from previous reviews I know he is highly skilled, so I felt confident. He mentioned he would take biopsies, and the procedure went flawlessly as far as I could tell. I woke up feeling like I had a good sleep and wasn't super groggy. The minute my eyes opened, I was handed a print out describing what was done. There were photos of my insides, and a diagram showing the locations of biopsies with descriptions of the findings. I was told biopsy results come back in 5 days. All super organized & easy to understand. Its been over 12 hours since my procedure & I've had very little discomfort or side effects. read more

RNs ( pre) Hailey, and Cella were awesome! Very comforting. Took any fear I had away. Karen RN in OR also made me feel like I was being well cared for. Christa RN in PACU explained the procedure and results was awesome also. All very efficient, friendly and professional! Dr P Lee was great! I felt confident in him and safe His office staff was very professional made it easy to schedule and informed. Over all I will definitely go back in 5 years and recommend Hoag and Dr Lee!! I had an upper endoscopy earlier today and was extremely nervous about it since I have pretty bad anxiety about being put to sleep. I have to say this place has some of the best medical/administration staff I've ever come into contact with! They were all so nice and caring, and willing to answer any and all questions I had about the procedure and being put under. The procedure was quick and painless, and they all made sure I was good to go before they discharged me! When I woke up, I remember telling one of the nurses how nice they all were and I really meant it (even if I was a bit loopy still lol). I highly recommend this place!! What an offensive ripoff! Get your checkbook out if you choose to use HOAG Endoscopy Center. They refused to give Anthem the necessary billing codes to cover my procedure and billed me thousands of dollars! They ignored my letters and refused my phone calls. Incredibly, when anthem insisted that Hoag submit the claim correctly they REFUSED. Horrible this could even happen, they just don't care. read more

I was really nervous, I'm young (24) and having some stomach issues and the worst goes through my head , I also am fortunate enough that I haven't had any other situations come up where I needed anesthesia. The receptionist, nurses, physician , and even my anesthesiologist were really amazing. They tried to make me as comfortable as possible even tho I was freaking out , I can say I had a really good experience for what I'm going through. They called the day after as promised and made sure I was doing ok. It looks like a lot of the other reviews are poor because of billing issues , I haven't gotten anything yet but I believe this center deserves more than 3&1/2 stars for their service. I had an extreme complication after the colonoscopy procedure that I led to go to the emergency room. After the doctors here were nonchalant and did not care at all. I had to see another doctor. I was left with digestive pain for six months after the procedure. Then they made me pay in full because they sloppily handled my insurance. I would never recommend this center to anyone. 0 stars. Having been through much pain in my life with medical issues, I was very nervous and the staff was so nice and understanding. They all made me feel like I was in excellent hands and I surely was. Had a endoscopy and colonoscopy with no pain and no issues. They work as a team and are an excellent team in every aspect. No waiting and the few minutes between checking in, prep and then procedure, they all had great personalities and were positive the entire time I was there (approx 2.5 hours). I have been putting off my colonoscopy for over 30 years but as I sit here resting after my successful procedure today I wanted to share my experience. From check in to check out everyone was great, easy to work with and caring, not easy to find these days. Brian my check in nurse really put me at ease. I was dreading the IV because I knew they would have to put it in my hand, He was fast and painless. The nurses who took me in to the procedure room and recovery area really put me at ease. Even the attendant who wheeled me out to my ride was a pleasure. I really didn't want to do this procedure but this team made it easy and as pleasant as possible for me. I saw the negative reviews and almost went elsewhere, I am so glad right now I didn't do that. read more

Mystery!Mystery! We lost one jacket - cheap stuff. My wife had Colonoscopy procedure last week. We brought in one jacket with her. I left for one and half hours break after she walked into the procedure room. I remember I checked the seat where I sat , it's open and bright - I remember jacket was not there - thinking my wife she had it. After all done, we got home, JACKET ? JACKET? Where is the jacket. We went back check with everywhere all we can remembered. It's GONE ! I don't think anybody stealing it, it's cheap. All staffs 、shuttle driver、security guards extremely helpful, thanks again. PLEASE READ BEFORE GETTING A COLONOSCOPY HERE! I just had my 3rd colonoscopy (1st at Hoag) recently at Hoag Irvine CA location. Seeing that this is my 3rd one and I'm 44 years old, I'm familiar with the procedure. I'm comfort with everything to the prep right on through the procedure (including the dietary restrictions the week prior). I take this seriously! SO PROBLEM WITH HOAG: the gave me prep that didn't work. About 6 hours after first starting the prep, nothing was happening. I was looking for an on-call doctor at Hoag to call, but no luck. All they had was a voicemail stating they'd call me back at 7 am (problem though, my check-in time was 6:30 am). So, I went to bed. Here at 2 am, the clean out starts happening...and continues for about 75-90 min...so "I think" I should be good for procedure. So I have procedure done and the doctor tells me he couldn't really analyze/assess 70% of my colon. PROBLEM: My insurance is now being billed for this procedure, and my insurance won't cover another colonoscopy until next year (but that will be almost 3.5 years out for me!). It's frustrating because I followed their instructions perfectly. I'm spot on with my diet in general.. especially the week before. And after the procedure, you just quick get handed a report (so of course your insurance can be billed), and they just make you feel like it's your fault. They come across like "another idiot patient that didn't do his prep". Here's the problem: why did Hoag give me prep for a 3 year old. They should be educated on numerous different preps..the trade offs, effectiveness, etc. Instead they just hand you something called Plenvu (which won't do anything...except "prevent" you from pooping for 10-12 hours) and send you on your way. Always ironic to see a staff that does all these little things to pay themselves on the back that they are being good to their patients (smiles at check in, sanitation everywhere, warm blankets, etc.), but when it ACTUALLY comes down to looking at what happened here at what's best for the patient, they don't care. "Just spit out a report so we can bill insurance"...that's the mentality. And what is so sad is, put yourself in my shoes: I have one shot at this colonoscopy now (for the year), I pick a hospital/company that I think is reputable and cares, but instead I get mislead on prep and NOBODY CARES! The mentality is just, "oh well, it's Friday, push em along like cattle...that guy didn't do his prep, oh well"..and you move on. When in reality, this is Hoag's fault...and their lack of compassion fits right in with everywhere else. As for me, pretty bummed and sad. Very very nervous every day for the next year until I can have another colonoscopy. So, BOTTOM LINE MY FRIENDS: BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!... compassion is lacking!...and to only have this one weak weak prep drink called Plenvu...I mean, should have more choices/discussion/knowledge/etc. Forget the warm blankets Hoag and instead focus on setting patients up for success going into this procedure. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR A COLONOSCOPY WITH HOAG! read more
