This is a lovely beach. We went during the off season where it was calm and serene. The beach is rocky so wear good shoes. There are plenty of rocks to sit on. Watch out for any stray jellyfish. The drive to Hobart's is outstanding. I wanted to drive as slowly as possible so we could admire all of the beautiful houses. They all differ from one another and range from modern large mansions to cute beach houses. I can't imagine how much they cost given that they have excellent views of the water. This is a must for Long Island scenic drives. I can't believe I've never taken the drive up before. I couldn't stop saying, "Wow!" read more

Beach. This is one out of the way beach - and I actually never knew the proper name for it as it is better known as "sand city" (yup- sounds like a Beach Boys tune). Sand City was actually a sand mining operation once upon a time and now it is a long strip of, well sand, that goes out into Northport harbor for quite some distance. You'll need a pass to get on the beach - or take your waverunner over like we do. They have all the usual beach amenities and like all the other north shore beaches, it is almost never crowded. Parking lot and boat ramps are available. read more

The ride up here has to be one of the most scenic on the Island if not the state of NY. Going through the different beaches, parks, and theirs a strip of houses that look like your in California with the Long Island Sound on the right side, you may want to stop briefly and take it all in. Its a good 10-15 mins just from the heart of Northport, its best to go after 5/6 pm when theirs no charge. The main beach side overlooks Caumsett State Park while the other side of the park has swings, a basketball court, and a few small docks for boats. I've taken many pics with my DSLR here and took one of my professional buddies here and he fell in love with the overall scenery and feel to the place. Eaton's Neck is just one of those places you sometimes need to go to just to slow things down in life and take a breather. All you will hear is the water lightly crash the beach with occasional background noise of a dog barking or people strolling. Like i mentioned above, the ride up here is worth it and its just one of those things that will make you love Long Island again. read more

Rocky beach, rocky waves. July 4th equals beaches and when you live in the city, it feels even nicer to lay out in the sun and listen to the waves. We were in Northport for the weekend and needed to find a spot to chillax. The drive to Hobart's Beach is beautiful. You pass by some of the most luxurious beach houses in Long Island on the single-lane road. When we arrived at Hobart's Beach, we were disappointed by the entrance fee. It's understandable that you want to have locals to be able to enjoy the water, but $20 for a day pass? Yes, it's not ridiculous but when so many beaches are free, $20 just seemed way too steep. We grudgingly paid the entrance fee, figuring we were in for a treat. Rocks. So many rocks. There was enough sand to call it a beach, but Hobart's had so many rocks I opted to wear sandals everywhere: the trip to the bathroom, on the sand, even in the water. Walking anywhere was a hazard to the soles of my feet and I'm so glad I decided to change to flip flops instead of deck shoes before we headed out that morning. The water was relatively clean, aside from the multitude of seaweed floating around. It was also surprisingly warm for this time of year and I thoroughly enjoyed taking a dip. The beach isn't bad by any means but with the entrance fee and rocky beach, I would much rather go to a crowded beach and fight for a spot on the sand than have to cut up my feet. If you're a resident though, it's a perfect summer spot. read more

I'm glad I followed Yelp on this one. This is a GREAT gorgeous beach. There is a beach on each front, one is protected and has an area reserved for swimming (you can't use a paddle board or any sort of equipment in this section) that is clean and has very few waves. The second faces outwards and has more waves. The beach itself is pretty laidback, none of the craziness of Jones beach or the Rockaways (not that that isn't fun sometimes), but if you are looking to just enjoy the sun, swim, and relax this is the place. You should be aware that parking for out of town residents is $30, but if you drive around the streets near the beach and find one of the few streets that allows parking (We parked on Robert Lenox Drive) and walk the 10 minutes to the beach, then you can get around the exorbitant parking fee. read more

This is an amazing beach!! I live nearby and I come just about every day. The sunset is awesome!! A MUST GO!!!!

This place is very out of the way and you have to drive well under the speed limit for miles hoping you don't get a ticket from the village police for license plate frame, tints or having something obstructing your view hanging from the rear-view mirror. Once you run that gauntlet, non-residents have to pay $30 bucks to park for the day - which is Manhattan prices! Anyway, for all that you get a rocky beach loaded with shells and glass that will cut your feet open, oh - and it's smelly at low tide with all the rotting seaweed. Make sure you bring water shoes - they are required - as they also help avoid walking in the urine coating the floors of the nasty single restroom. Use your head and pick the rocks, glass and sharp shells from the sand under your towel before you plant your backside on it - don't say you weren't warned. The locals love this place - walk down the beach a little bit and you will encounter piles of garbage, smelly bait, bottles, leftover dinner, rotting fish, fishing tackle and hooks from the surfcasting slobs that use this place. Looks like a garbage truck fell into the water and unloaded its trash on this beach...stick with Sunken Meadow or Jones Beach and get soft sand, easy trip and way better for $8 entrance fee! read more

Amazing views, best place for a view of the sunset because the beach faces west and east on the other side. Only downside is the lack of facilities (besides the gross bathrooms) and because it's a north shoe beach it's super rocky. I recommend bringing chairs because it's like sitting on concrete, or just pull your car up to watch the sunset. read more
