Hobby Lobby is one of those comfort shopping experiences that cater to a plethora of different needs and interests. I recently moved back to Summerville so I made the trip to North Charleston to get a few items. Overall this is pretty much like any other Hobby Lobby with one exception, which I'll bury somewhere in here if you keep reading. Walking in a week after the doors were unlocked for the general public, the experience is almost exactly similar to all other Hobby Lobby's; the space wide open yet filled with shelves of knick-knacks, art supplies, nostalgic themed items and many other items. The place is very clean and sterile while being well stocked and thoughtfully displayed, playing on the casual shoppers innate impulse shopping with "Oh I might need that one day" mentality. Therein lies my personal weakness as I headed back to the front to grab a cart to load up with items, I really didn't need but I could justify in my mind. I could drag the review out but, it's Hobby Lobby and you know what you're getting. Clean and safe stores with all sorts of items, and generally good employees. But that is one of the flaws of this particular store, the people were slow to respond and weren't well trained as they seemed to be missing a clue or two. While I'm ignorant of the inner workings I'd wager management isn't exactly up to par here. That said for the general public I don't think that would be an issue, just my knit picking. I'll end my review with it's not a bad store and it just needs a little TLC in terms of customer relations. Service is good, but slow. Hobby Lobby really needs a new POS system. To have to wait in line for minimum 30 min for 2 items insane. So a new POS system is overdue. read more

Great for party and craft supplies! Has a lot of themed decorations, party dishes, and even some outdoor chairs, rugs, and various house supplies. Suspiciously there is a lot of cow art. I found a lot of chicken art, outdoor and interior. If you haven't been, it's an extravaganza of interesting stuff! read more

It was my first experience and it was great. I loved all of the different crafts, gadgets, and other little things The prices were pretty good. Hobby Lobby is a great store for all the Crafters out there! There's plenty of variety. Pricing is average but even better when stuff goes on Clearance at end of season. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. One drawback, cashiers have to enter every single item manually as hobby lobby doesn't have a point of service with a bar scan. Ugh!! I walk out with a buggy full of items I did not go in with the intention of buying, but it is hard to resist! Every time I shop in this store I always feel welcome and can always rely on the employees for help when I have questions. The store stays well stocked compared to the location across the bridge. They have a great selection of seasonal items and as long as you are not a complete snob I am sure you will enjoy looking down the aisles. They should rename this dump the snobby lobby -- where the nobodys feel like somebodys and unless you knit or paint, there is nothing a hobbyist with taste would ever want to buy. Its all low end brightly colored plastic crap that makes some people feel so good inside to buy and to accumulate. Gross. It all started innocently enough with a smidge of humorous interest spotting the carnival sized pink flamingos and the rubber Rubber Tree as I walked towards the foyer, until I entered. And then -- laid my eyes upon the many rows of highly depreciating, low value, low quality items. Proactively asking if I needed to check my bag, I got a up and down sneering look and a nod indicating that this was not policy. (She confused her head gesture on such a conveluded question --pssst, it's a slight nice up and a defined move down, not left to right you Yahoo) Then I thought for a moment and I up and downed myself, duh, stain on my thinking as I had on a camo sweatshirt. Lady, my Patek Phillppe watch is worth more than your partner in snickering cohesions car and yours combined. Judgmental to be sure, but the lowly and downtrodden having never been exposed money never will understand more than what they always have been and where they've been. Nothing and nowhere, so best of luck with that. What's also abundantly obvious is CLEARANCE PRICES of 50% to 70%, hell, why not make it 95% while your utilizing 1980, 8th Ave knock off camera signage marketing mentality. It really really works, a one of a kind idea! Visually strip away the chemically induced bright paints and over faded aged woods in an effort to suggest classic American country craftsmanship. The press board made in a particular foreigh country we all have come to know so well will be revealed and that my friends is a very favorable purchase -- But it's discounted 105%! Oh, what a minute -- add 5, carry the one, subtract the 5 again -- I'm confused, but I just know it's a great deal, they wrote it in red! When you travel state to state as much as we do and in the last 8 years we've been in 7 States there's one thing that always kind of brings a little piece of home with you that's knowing that there's a Hobby Lobby close by. The store is lovely and the products although expensive are good, I buy all my yarn here. However, the cashiers literally move in reverse. I have never in my life been in a line for almost 40 minutes and only 2 people checked out. I would give Hobby Lobby zero stars if I could. Last Saturday we went to the Hobby Lobby in N. Charleston. I rarely go to Hobby Lobby and I won't be going anytime soon. The store was packed. They were having huge sales. All I wanted was a mat and a frame for the crossstitch I had just finished. By the way, Willow in the frame dept gets 5 stars! She was great! So we get on one of the long lines. 16 people ahead of us. Of course, I get on the wrong line. People on all the other lines are passing us by. The checker on our line, Pam is slower than molasses. We waited and waited. 30 minutes went by. Onlt two customers on our line had been waited on. I get on the phone and call the store. A manager, Trish, gets on. There is simply nothing she can do she tells me. Some crap about lunch coverage, workers coming and going. I told her to take Pam off the damn checkout and give us someone faster. Trish blows more smoke up my ass. Workers at lunch, no more cashiers. Then get her someone to help her wrap and bag then...Trish is useless. An hour after getting on line to pay, 1 hour, we finally paid for our items. 1 hour waiting on line at this f$@$%ING store. Never again. Pam should NOT be a cashier. NOT, NOT, NOT. And Trish should NOT be a manager. NOT, NOT, NOT!!!!!! Absolutely disgusting customer service! Shame on you Hobby Lobby! read more

I was shopping in Hobby Lobby on Rivers Avenue on August 11 and my purse was stolen . After 6 hours of cancelling and ordering new Drivers License, Medicare card, credit cards, etc. and lost $135 in cash and a nice purse. Later I contacted hobby lobby to make them aware of the robbery that occurred. To my surprise, the person that answered the phone said that they have been having this problem of an organized group robbing their customers. I asked if they had camera's, and yes they do, but you cannot watch any of the film. I was surprised they did not have any notices warning their customers (who mostly are women) that there is a serious problem with being scammed by an organized group that regularly rob their customers. They have something for everyone. It's organized and neat. The aisles are wide. It's packed with merchandise but it's easy to find things. This hobby lobby is a typical store. Almost the same exact set up as most. Although, I feel like these stores it's very hard to find a person to help you with questions. I went here on December 1 and it was busier than Black Friday. People everywhere realizing that's Christmas was coming quicker than we thought! I had to get some fabric and the young lady helped me. I had something in mind and she actually helped me get it off the clearance rack which saved me tons of money! Even though all of those people were in the store, it was kept very clean. There were not big messes or nothing out of the ordinary. The lines went fairly quick and the employees were friendly. I give this store 5 stars. Love this store, they have amazing crafts available along with great classes. My favorite place to buy small furniture and decor items. They have a wonderful selection of holiday items along with everyday decor to use in your house. They are reasonably priced with great coupons and deals everything becomes even better. I love going into Hobby Lobby but have noticed as of late they are dwindling down on scrapbooking supplies! Wish they carried more!

I am SO EXCITED that Hobby Lobby has finally opened up. Aside from being right by my house, this is so nice! I'm sure a lot of it has to do with being new, but they have an amazing selection and a super clean store (which I love). Also, you still get to use the ol' trusty 40% off coupon. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about brands they carry or don't (I was hunting some Tombow brush pens, which they don't sell in their stores). I really hope it doesn't go downhill because this is probably my favorite store, second only to Target. read more

We all know that the holidays are hectic and that retail staff can be easily overwhelmed and stressed during this season. With that in mind, I had the best staff experience at Hobby Lobby this week. I had bags and bags of holiday items that needed to be returned. The return line was long and I had forgotten to grab a cart before making my way to the line. A staff member noticed my juggling/shuffling and promptly brought over a cart and helped load it with my returns. Once at the register, I felt the need to apologize for what was about to be a lengthy process, but the staff member responded with a smile and said she had all the patience in the world and was happy to help me. I love this store. My friend recommended it to me last year. The staff has been so friendly. The store is huge they have everything. I love their decor. I love to buy my canvas and paints there. This year I made a memorial candle for my daughter dog. The clerk helped me with the supplies. The staff is always willing to help me with my questions. I'm in and out easily. But it's a big store. We went to purchase some fabric. We were having a great time looking at all of the choices and color matching. I had walked over to look at another rack and overheard the clerk, Lucy, talking to another clerk about my family and rolling her eyes. She was apparently upset that we had been taking down the rolls to look at them, even though we had been replacing them. When we went to get our selections cut, she was rude and short with us. At one point we had asked where a particular item went so we could replace it and she responded with "everything has its place and has to be put back correctly". I could understand if we had blatant disregard for the materials and were leaving stuff around, but we made every attempt to not only put stuff back, but also in the correct color coded location. The employees of this store are clueless, including the customer service manager. They not only gave away my reservation for an arch I booked 8 weeks before my daughter's wedding, but they waited 3 weeks to contact me to let me know. They lied about trying to contact me. They didn't even offer to call another store to see if another one was available. I was told by Jamie, the CSM that I could call the other store if I wanted. The other store is 45 minutes from my house. This store is 5 minutes away. I was able to go during my lunch hour to put a deposit on the arch. At no time did anyone give me a sincere apology or act remorseful for the huge screw up. After renting the arch, which I am still doing because I already bought the garland and have nowhere else to rent one from, I will not return to any Hobby Lobby again. This was my first and last experience with this company. I am extremely disappointed, especially since it just opened a few months ago. read more
