Go anywhere but here for RC stuff. The place has been disorganized for years. It's dirty from the ceiling to the floor. The staff does not care and cannot answer most questions. Santiago is awesome, but the rest have no idea what's going on. Not even the owner. They never have what I need with regard to parts for common Traxxas and Arrma products, one will be in stock, but the others will not, even if it's a common item. The website is better (but don't try to order it for pickup, because they won't have it when you arrive). Shipping is like $3.99 for small orders though, and Amazon is cheaper if you have Prime because there is no shipping. The benefit to a brick-and-mortar store despite a slightly higher price is being able to get the item today. MyTobbies has the single largest selection in the Tampa area. The manager/owner is almost never there (unless it's the morning and only during the week so good luck with your warranty or a return if you buy something), and employees have to get verbal permission just to give you your money back. There used to be a bunch of great people there (Kevin, Jeremy, Tim, John, Wyatt) but they are all gone. Bottom line, there are better places. Here are a few I enjoy. If your looking for crafts or hobbies they have a tremendous amount of choices. Yes the prices vary from not bad to whoa!!! This is the way it is just about anywhere. They have a great selection of paint for crafts/hobbiest alike the also have airbrushes of all levels of users. They even have small air compressor for the airbrushes. They also carry all sorts of radio controled devices. From kits you build and operate to ready to fly/drive RC vehicles. Miniatures for gaming or for building diaromas. don't recommend i got a rc car from dere last week the car didn't even work fresh out the box couldn't even get to drive it not once so took it back the next day the guy tried to fix it for 2 hours still wouldn't work so I was expecting a new one instead he sent the car off somewhere for they can fix it say it will be done by the end of the week still haven't heard nothing yet now I'm just waiting spent 500 for nothing read more

I am still shocked... I'm 72 years old and just experienced the worst customer service in my life including being verbally abused by the Brandon Hobby Town store manager. I wanted to purchase a $899 RC radio. As some Hobby Town franchisees offer a discount to members of AMA, the national RC flying club, I called one Hobby Town location that does offer the discount but did not have the model I wanted in stock. I called another HobbyTown location who had the radio, but did not offer the AMA discount. I called the Brandon store and talked with a fine young man who was very helpful and polite as he confirmed he had the radio in stock and he put me on hold, to talk to someone to confirm that his store would honor the AMA discount on the specific radio I wanted. I drove 1.5 hours round trip to purchase the radio. I went to the register to purchase the radio and was told that the discount would not be honored. I asked for the store manager to discuss the situation. In front of both the store manager and myself and others, the fine young man from my phone call confirmed he had in fact told me the discount would be honored, but that he had made a mistake, for which he sincerely apologized. To me that is Aok and I told him so. We all make mistakes... I asked the manager to honor the discount and he refused. I asked to speak with the owner by phone, the manager refused. I asked for my gas to be reimbursed, he refused. My demeanor was calm and non-threatening throughout the entire conversation, I did not raise my voice, or in any way confront anyone, in any way. The manager did not like that I told him this was poor customer service... the manager apologized but displayed anger when I told him that his apology was "insincere" if he did not make this situation "right." In our discussion the manger told me to "f---k myself" (he used the full f-word) to "get f----ed" (again using the full f-word.). He called me "childish" and he called me a "retard." The manager never physically threatened me, but the verbal assault was incredible... The manager told me to leave and instructed his employee to call the police. I refused to leave as I wanted police to come to see if I had an option to press charges against the manager for the verbal abuse he directed at me in front of others. I am now purchasing the radio from either of two retailers with discount, and will never enter this Hobby Town location again. Retailing is not easy, and much to my dismay, the world has seemed to become so rude and un-kind. I respect the original "fine young man" very much for his integrity and fine attitude, and I hope the manager can be effectively educated including training in customer sensitivity and anger management. read more

Procrastination is my middle name, it will probably be on my tombstone. It's an unfortunate trait that I inherited from my saint of a mother. For some god for sake'n reason, I wait until the very last minute to get things done, but I always manage to pull off whatever it is I was waiting to do. Of course, this applies to Christmas shopping, and once again I found myself driving around on Christmas Eve with all of the other procrastinators this year. The a-typical thoughts running through my confused brain, where should I go, what do the kids want, and how much am I going to spend with my zeroed out bank balance? The joys of the Christmas season!!! My son is almost 12, and I remember at that age I was fascinated with models (of course the pin-up kind as well) of all kinds, cars and airplanes especially. To be able to craft something with your own two hands is ridiculously fun, and fills you with a great sense of accomplishment. With that in mind, I used my friendly YELP app to do a quick search of the area for a hobby shop. I was shocked to see that there were very limited selections, but one particular place drew my attention, Hobbytown USA. This gem of a store is tucked away in the Brandon Regency Square Mall, right next to the movie theater. Walking into the place felt like being transported back in time, as I immediately felt like a kid again! If you can't find something to buy for one of your kids, or even yourself, then there is definitely something wrong with you. Hobbytown USA is loaded with games, puzzles, remote controlled vehicles (even the outrageously expensive ones that can go faster than your Yugo), model cars, airplanes, tanks, helicopters, including all of the accessories that go with building them (paints, stickers, brushes, glues etc), posters and pictures, and tons of other items. You can literally get lost in there for hours while looking at all of the amazing stuff they have to offer, I know I did (okay, maybe the nerd in me escaped for awhile). What's even better is the incredible staff there that is ridiculously helpful and knowledgeable, and won't try and oversell you. All I can say is that I had an absolutely amazing experience here and that I will definitely be back, next time with my son, as I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees all of the wonderments abound. Can be good or bad, depends on who "helps" you. I am new to the area and getting back into RC cars. I always do some kind of internet research before going to the store. This past weekend, I learned about speed bits, screw driver bits that quickly connect to electric screwdrivers. I saw that some of the brands have these, such as MIP, and asked an employee. He immediately disregarded anything I said and said it doesn't exist. I explained to him the product some more and he insisted that there is no such item or that I would need to go to a speciality store. Ii try supporting the local hobby stores, but if this is the service I get, why? f this wasn't the only RC store within 30 mins of my house, I would stop shopping there altogether. In the future, I will choose to purchase online over the LHS. read more

I went there for help with an RC car walked in the kid eating his lunch could have been no more interested in helping me out. I approached him and he acted like we were interrupting his lunch I asked about the car he sent us to the back of the store to see the RC guy waited there for 5 minutes no one around my wife asks for help then were the flush RC guy ignores us kid from up front comes to the back and asks what we need I had already told him up front so he then becomes the RC guy looks at the car spins the flywheel back and forth says immediately I need a new engine mind you he did not spin it all the way around so he could feel the compression stroke. The eng ran fine I just broke the starter and was looking for a new starter the kid had absolutely no interest in helping us any further other than trying to sell us on a motor . Meanwhile RC guy never came back and ignored us whole time. We were polite and bid him farewell I will never recommend them to anyone the store is dead every time I go there. I spent 25.00 on E Bay for an elect starter kit got it and was up and running in 3 days. Shame they are the only Hobby store in town will be taking my business elsewhere. read more
