After purchasing half off Groupon for Hobe, we purchased an aged Porterhouse & aged Tbone, 1 steak each, totalling $52. We love our beef in this house. Both my husband & I thought it was chewier than we expected & lacked the flavor we expected from aged prime beef I have been to every major supermarket in AZ & have found AJs has best aged & non aged prime beef & always stock up when its on sale. Bashas so has good butcher shop & the steaks have good flavor. Frys, Safeway, Albertsons sell beef of course, but it is rather flavorless. I would have loved to find another great place to purchase good beef, but not sure Id travel to Hobe again read more

I stopped in to use my Groupon last week and left with four top sirloins (two strips and two rounds), a pound of chorizo (SO good for breakfast burritos), and some jerky for the road. The experience was good; I got there before the crowd which was nice. It is a small shop so it gets cramped easily but that's nothing to hold against it. In the case they had a variety of pork cuts, sausages, salmon (which looked iffy), sea bass, and of course all the beef. We cooked the two strips for dinner, and ended up sharing one because they were so big. The second one is sliced thin on a salad for lunch today...not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited. The steaks were the high quality I expected--very tender and flavorful. I pulled them off the grill a little early, so next time I will probably let them sit another minute or two. I only used a bit of oil, salt and pepper on them and the husband didn't opt for A1. Win! We had the chorizo the next day...cooked it up, scrambled eggs right into it, and stuffed it into tortillas with cheese. Perfect. I won't be able to get ALL our meat here, but it's worth it for a celebration or "better-than-$50-restaurant-steak" night. read more

I'm not going to ding them any stars, but I did see their latest Groupon deal is not as good as past deals. Usually it's $25 for $50 worth of prime beef. Now the current special is $35 for $50. A tip I learned yesterday was to buy the Groupon for Prime Beef and then call them 48 hrs. before your trip to the store and ask for #7 The Primo - it's currently $160 for basically every cut of their prime meat - you can use the Prime Beef Groupon or any other sites Prime Beef discount on that package - so the cost before tax is $145 (including the cost of the Groupon). Priced out individually though - like I made the mistake of doing yesterday it would be $210 before tax. Pretty good deal - end up coming out to $14.50 per pound and that includes their to di for Filet. I did do a comparison on this with Wal-Mart choice meats and Wal-Mart prices for the same amount of beef (even though it's rare to find filet) was $140. So ask yourself would you like Prime beef from an awesome Butcher Shop or Choice Beef from Wal-Mart? Still great value. read more

Great place for high quality Midwest Beef. It is expensive though and more than what you would pay in a grocery store . However, there are Groupons available, and a monthly newsletter with specials listed. Service is attentive. My faves are the hangar steak and petite sirloin. Both are reasonably priced. I don't see a lot of bone in meats here which are my favorite as they seem to be more flavorful. Small town feel here, I've been here multiple times. read more

I don't really frequent the butcher shops around town, but I think i will start. I bought a groupon here... and so did everyone else who was there. They do not have a number/line system so it was kind of like being at the bar trying to get a drink and showing enough skin to get service..ha! Never being at a butcher shop before. The experience was alright, once i was being helped customer service was great, but upon walking in..didn't feel too welcome. (it was busy when i walked in soo, it could have been that too). Like I said, first time shopping at a butcher shop...so I think the meat selection was okay. In my mind I expected more of a selection, but this could be a great or weak selection...like i said...i am new to going to these shops. Loved the cuts I did get. The meats had great marbling which of course made my meats turn out great when I slow cooked them. I will say, if you are soft spoken and indecisive you may have a difficult time. I'm giving this place 4 stars, BECAUSE on saturdays they have/do a bbq and I got some lunch there with the meat I bought. They don't put anything special on their brisket, but it was so nicely, that It didn't need anything. Just straight enjoy the brisketness of the brisket. read more

Good meats at a good price from the neighborhood butcher. I would say its best if you buy and cook the same day, I've had some of the "Grey" steak experience also after have them in the fridge for a about 5 days. I have purchased from Hobe for decades. I was in town today and stopped to restock my meat supply and was appalled that none of the staff was wearing masks or gloves, half of the patrons weren't wearing masks or gloves, the store was not controlling the number of patrons, and there was no structure to help with social distancing. I understand that some patrons may be inconsiderate or ignorant, but it is really management's fault for failing to provide for safe shopping in their store. We moved to Arizona almost 5 years ago we found this store and fell in love with all of their meats! They have the best hot Italian sausage that I have ever had,hands down they are awesome! They have the best ribs they are so meaty and delicious. And I must say the entire staff that works there they are so nice and helpful. If you want a good deli sandwich, This is the place to go. They have awesome beef jerky as well. We often take meat to family and friends back in Cali ,when we go home to visit, they love this place too. I am also a big fan of making my own bone broth and they sell a variety of bones. They also offer military discount which is really nice. Thank you hobe meets we love you!!! read more

Today, because of all this fear and loathing, I decided it was time for a barbecue sandwich. So, I tried going to Little Miss BBQ the one on Central and discovered that you could not buy a sandwich on site, you could order only order on-line, and a day or two in advance. So what did I do? I kept driving and I finally got over to Hobe meats, where I had never gone before (by the way) but had heard some good things about them and I learned that Saturdays are barbecue day. Being the good COVID-19 kind of person I am I parked outside I called the phone number I said could I order a sandwich to pick up and I said sure all the time people are just walking in the door and doing it like like it used to be and so I ordered the the try tip sandwich with coleslaw. Lady came out, contamination risk by handing them my credit card and all that kind of stuff, but nonetheless I took this home for lunch and it was a delectable sandwich. It was perhaps the best try tip sandwich I've ever had and I'm I know Santa Maria tri-tip so I know my tri-tip at least a little bit. The sandwich was moist with tender meat there was no gristle yet it was chewy. it was on a nice solid pretzel roll with the appropriate texture and density to allow the beef and all it's juices to have a solid tasty foundation. Here's the kicker, the price of a brisket sandwich or something over at Little Miss barbecue was like $17 or something like that and I couldn't even buy it and at Hobe it was eight dollars and change with a side. So, while I'm sure that Little Miss barbecue is a wonderful place and it is just styling galore and all that kind of stuff the difference in price and the quality of the beef that I got at Hobe was just astounding. Now I will definitely be going back to Hopi probably for the rest of eternity at least every weekend to get their really wonderful barbecue. Bought a groupon from Hobe Meats last week. Went this weekend and was highly disappointed. The price of their meats was out of control. Was told the groupon was just for their Prime cuts of meat. 1 filet cost me $32.00.. What a joke. I ended up having to spend $20 more and I only got 3 steaks.. This isn't the first time I've ever bought grass fed meat before so I know its more expensive. I guarantee that they raised their prices before they had the groupon go out. This is my go-to place when I've got people to BBQ or grill for. Great steaks, beef ribs (most of the time - but you can call ahead and they'll hold some for you) - corn when it's in season (last time I was in, they had a one-ear-of-corn-with-each-steak special - that was an unexpected bonus). The hot dogs are really great, too. But...if you like brats, this is THE place. Especially the jalapeño cheddar brats. wow wow WOW!!! Absolutely delicious! I got the tri-tip sandwich and WOW! Tender meat, and the blue cheese complimented it perfectly. My only slight complaint with the sandwich would be the bread, which I thought seemed a little dry and too thick for my liking. Nevertheless, I ate the meat on its own with the Mac n cheese and was very pleased. Great deal for $10, and it's a local business that you are supporting. I decided not to purchase at this meat shop because of their customer service. In this day and age of communication I found their efforts to be below standards of even the simplest customer service. With smart phones, texting and emailing something that most people have access to and with most people having busy schedules I would expect if a company is contacted that the communication would be easy and informative. I shouldn't have to feel like I am putting someone out to get an answer on product in the store. I do know people who purchase meat from this store and swear by the quality but before I could even get that far the customer service fell flat for me. read more

After looking through my expired Groupons, I found one for Hobe Meats and decided to check it out. Walking in, the place looked like paradise for a meat lover -- deli meats about, steaks for days, and an overall joyful atmosphere. I was very excited to place my order and see what Hobe had to offer. The service I received was thorough, even if it wasn't the most personable, and the butcher who serviced my order even gave me a few extra slices of meat and cheese. However, my order -- prosciutto, pancetta, honey turkey, and swiss cheese -- are of some of the absolute worst quality I have ever eaten. The prosciutto is completely dry, the pancetta is greyed, the cheese tasted off, and the honey turkey turned the day after purchase. If you want quality meats, you'd be much better off visiting a local grocery. I would not recommend anyone purchase meats from Hobe; the only person that should be visiting this shop is the health inspector. read more

Service is very friendly at Hobe and there's a nice variety of cuts of meat and even some more exotic meats (elk, bison, duck) in their freezer section. Unfortunately, they don't do any organics or pasture fed meats... which is what I came looking for. I did buy a variety of meats to try, all of which were pretty good... if you're looking to buy from a local shop, they have good meat. You would think a place that deals with food handling would follow some sort of COVID protocols but not Hobe. Not only do they not follow any sort of protocols (not one employee was wearing a mask) but they also have a sign up at the cash register stating something about the 4th amendment and that if you weren't wearing a mask that they would assume you have some sort of medical condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask and they cannot legally ask you to put one on (which is absolutely not true). I felt bad for the elderly lady before me who was wearing a mask while the 20 something year old girl at the counter had no mask in sight. They are actively going out of their way to defy protocols which as a food establishment is not ok. Will never be back. read more

Of note is an amazing selection of game meats, you'd be hard pressed to find this diverse array anywhere else in the Valley. Their Prime steaks are just delicious. Not for your average meat eater. Very pricey. Top sirloin 15 dollars a pound, which is easily 300 percent more than what you can get at the grocery store. Very little was in a good price range, and it was generally high fat meats that were cheaper. So this place isn't a cost efficient place to eat healthy protein. For price alone, I would give this place 4 stars because they did have a wide variety of meat. However, I give 1 star for them selling me eggs that expired 3 days ago. Overpriced products is one thing, but selling expired products is a worse. It makes me wonder if their over priced meat is expired too. I would avoid this place. There are many other options that are cheaper and safer. read more

BOBM A** SANDWICHES! I had the Biltmore loaded with tri tip, carmelized onion and roasted tomato jam with blue cheese crumbles. So darn delicious! I ate the whole thing and every bite was amazing. Hubby got the corn beef and it was piled high with lots of yummy sauce! He said it was the best he's ever had. We stumbled across this place and I'm so glad we did. Love their lunch sandwich specials which are a bargain - have tried almost everything on the lunch menu and never been disappointed. We have used Hobe several times and have no complaint about the meat (nor raving reviews for that matter) but I had to chime in and agree with the absolutely atrocious customer service. When you go in it's nearly impossible to get served at the counter, and when you call just hope woman doesn't answer the phone. I noticed the other reviews often mentioned her and her uncouth way of talking to people. I think she must be related to the owner or something because if she were just an employee she should've been let go a long time ago. She was rude, condescending, and incorrect. She actually argued with me about something that she clearly didn't have a lot of knowledge on. Very big deterrent against shopping here again. read more

Hello Yelpers. Been awhile since my last post, but wanted to give a shout out to Hobe Meats on 16th St. Don't go that often, but have been going there for almost 10 years. I see some reviews about bad service and people getting yelled at, and that has NEVER happened to me. People are always courteous and helpful. This place is great because you can get stuff like sweetbreads, marrow bones, and other oddball stuff that can be hard to find at your local grocery store. The meat is always top quality. Today for the first time I got a BBQ sandwich at the deli. Brisket sandwich, two sides and a drink for $8. Sandwich was huge and pretty tasty. Not the best brisket in town, but tender and fatty and flavorful. skip the BBQ sauce because it isn't really needed. the beans side dish had bacon or salt pork in every bite. Yum. I went in to buy dinner with my two young daughters at about 5pm on Thu., Dec. 2. There was one customer ahead of me, being rung up at the register by an employee. The two men just stood there, shooting the breeze for several minutes, with me right there waiting. Eventually, the employee told the customer the total for his order and took his credit card. He held the card in his hand while they kept casually talking for several more minutes. I felt like maybe I was on Candid Camera--or maybe I had suddenly become invisible--I was standing right there, waiting to be helped, while the two men just chatted away about the weather, etc without a care. My daughters started making noise and getting squirrelly, I told them to calm down ... we kept waiting ... the men kept talking ... then eventually we just walked out. Still, zero acknowledgment from the employee. I've been coming to Hobe for years but this was such a disrespectful and somewhat humiliating expirrnce that I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more
