I haven't experienced this issue before, which is why I was surprised by my visit today. I requested five center-cut filet mignons, all cut to the same size, and trusted that they would be prepared as requested. Unfortunately, when I got home, the steaks varied significantly in size, and one was clearly not a center-cut filet. It was disappointing, especially since I was preparing a special meal on short notice. Update to my original review: After reflecting on my experience, I realized my original review didn't fully represent the business. From the moment I walked in, everyone was as friendly and welcoming as they have been during my previous visits. The staff was also very helpful in recommending some of their prepared side dishes, including the mac and cheese, twice-baked potatoes, and potato skins. They even provided cooking suggestions for both the air fryer and grill, which were appreciated. Although I was frustrated with how the filets were cut, I have to say the quality of the meat itself was excellent. The filets were incredibly tender, full of flavor, and everyone enjoyed them. The sides were also a big hit with our guests, especially the potato skins. I also want to recognize their outstanding customer service. The owner responded to my review promptly, and the store manager called me first thing the following morning to discuss my experience and make things right. That level of responsiveness and genuine care for their customers is becoming increasingly rare and deserves recognition. They have a good selection of dehydrated animal products like beef tracheas, chicken feet, pigs tails, smoked bones, etc. They also sell ground beef, chicken with organ meat or with carrots/green beans if you make your own pet food. They offer products from local business Happy Tails- pup cakes and treats. The staff is friendly and the place is clean and their products look presentable and fresh. Came here looking for CAB beef products like I get back home in NY. Ordered 4 ribeyes and they were thinly and raggedly cut, and probably twice the price of what I get back home. Actually, the quality here is no better than you can get in a regular grocery store at probably 2-3 times the price. I wouldn't suggest buying anything here. read more

I was in the area and stopped in today. I'm always in the look out for Braunschweiger for my husband. I didn't have any luck on that front today. But left with a huge piece of garlic jerky, two different types of brats, a summer sausage and a jalapeño breakfast sausage. My hubby is going to be so happy! I was impressed by their huge selection. This place is great. Has a small family business type of vibe. Pretty much everything you'd expect from a butcher, however, from my perspective the differentiator is their service. The staff is authentic, down to earth, and genuinely helpful. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. This is a "Midwest" style meat shop, so there's a lot of stuff I've never seen or heard of before. It's a bit of an adventure! There are ready to bake sides, along with a small deli area with things like potato salad, pea salad, etc, as well as house made jerky. The meat selection is really good. I HATE to leave bad reviews but this place is too expensive to be so rude to their customers. I've been coming here for about 8-9 months. I spend about $200-$300 a week here and I'm what I would consider a "regular". My wife and I used to look forward to going to the butcher but they slowly broke down that enthusiasm with poor service. The guys here have so much attitude. I understand you're a butcher however that job also includes customer service. You get the cold shoulder as soon as you walk in. You don't even get a smile, a thank you, or a have a great day when you leave or make a purchase! One day, I tried to use my loyalty app for points and the older gentleman at the register messed up entering my points and I lost 4 visits. When I told him, he said he's not too sure how the app works and then walked away. I did notice that the older guy (big stalky guy with a salt and pepper beard and a deep voice) has his favorite customers that he'll refer to as bud, pal, or even by name and if you're a woman you'll get a BIG smile and he'll roll out the red carpet and treat you like you're a family member calling you "sweetheart" (EXTREMELY inappropriate in my opinion). There's a blonde girl that works there and every time I see her she makes me feel like I shouldn't have bought so much meat, no smiles, just attitude. Overall, good meat for a higher price tag with no customer service unless you're a pretty woman. I don't mind because the quality is there, however this last visit was the last straw. I preordered some hamburger because they get fussy if you try and come in to buy a large quantity of meat without giving them a day or two notice (fine with me, never bothered me). As you can see in the picture the hamburger is packed in blood soaked plastic. There's blood all over the box. Pieces of hamburger on the wrapper. So as I put this away I get to clean each package and sanitize my kitchen area because this is unsanitary for a home with a baby. At this point I've decided to lower my standards and get a Costco card to buy my meat. When I went to Costco I asked if I could get a chuck roll and they were so nice about it. Helpful and friendly with a smile and a thank you! How true customer service is performed. I love this place! They have a great selection of meats, and their brat and sausage selection is crazy. Something for any occasion. But my favorite thing is the amount of dog products they have. Its my dog's adoption anniversary so i came here and was not disappointed. I got a couple reasonably priced dog safe cupcakes and sausage treats. And i make my own dog food and they have cheap ground beef specifically for dog food. And the smoked bones and chicken feet are great for larger dogs. They butcher everything in house, not only that--but with the beef specifically they make sure nothing is wasted and can use it for Jerky for example. I got a sample and also got a pound of that into the bag. After I made my purchase, they also mentioned that all sides are prepped by them--you already know I had to turn around and grabbed some loaded baked potatoes and a berry cobbler. After seeing Von Hanson's as a top rated butcher on Yelp, I figured I'd support a local business and call ahead to order a turkey with several weeks notice before Thanksgiving this year. When I called, they were super friendly and advised that I plan to pick up the turkey on Monday (yesterday) of Thanksgiving week if I wanted to avoid a long wait. Of course, I took their suggestion and was so relieved there wasn't a line when I arrived to pick it up. I was impressed with the additional items for sale at Von Hanson's and also picked up four bottles of wine, some bacon and dog treats. I could have done way more damage, but was in a bit of a time crunch... Tom was super friendly and helpful at check-out and gave me some quick advice on the turkey. (It will be my first time making it so I will take all of the advice and luck I can get). He also helped carry it out to the car. (Thanks Tom!) I'm hoping that by starting with a super fresh, high quality turkey, I won't be able to mess it up, but we will see! Cute old fashioned deli that has all your protein needs. I come here for the fresh ready to cook dog food & dog treats. The ground meat options for dogs are a great deal & a better alternative to paying for an expensive subscription dog food. The owner is very sweet & gave me free samples of their hotdogs the last time i came in, very excited to try them! This shop is very special to me. I've been a customer here for over a year. I'm vegetarian, and I can't tell you how much I've dropped here haha. It was all for my girl, my soul dog. And I would do it all again if I could. I'd made the switch to a home cooked diet for her, and getting to cook for her was one of my most special experiences in all of my life. Getting to shop for her, to decide what yummy meats and treats my gorgeous girl would be getting. There is so much at this wonderful shop, it's got the best selection of dog food/treats that I've found in the valley. Cooking for her with your guys' yummy food was truly the highlight of my life. I shopped for her for the last time Friday 1/31. Got her a cake, duck, and whatever else I could grab. Deep down, I just had a feeling it would be my last time. The cashier greeted me with his usual kindness and friendly aura. It's rare for a man to call me sweetheart and I don't semi-roll my eyes lol. For Thanksgiving, we decided to make a bacon wrapped stuffed pork roll. I didn't want to cheap on the meat, so went looking for a butcher - when I grew up, meat markets were a regular thing. Anyway, a lot of what appear good choices on line, but went for Von Hanson's. Appears they're a small chain originating out of MN. Well, if they're from snowbird country and they are now in AZ, that tells me the snowbirds must like them! Great place. Smells great. They sell smokers, rubs, all kinds of butcher shop type stuff and a pretty good selection of house made sausage. Bought a pork loin cut specially for our roast and some sausage. Good meat.
