Amazing dinner!! Wow! We loved the potato salad! I had a wonderful dill flavor that was very strong and we enjoyed it very much. The poutine should not be missed! It was better than any I've had in Canada! We also enjoyed the Reuben with the red cabbage. This place is adorable and the service is excellent.

Had a terrific chicken sandwich with avocado toast and salad. Adjoining hotel was great, too.

We visited Hobnob Coffee and Wine Bar during our recent stay at the hotel. We arrived Friday night excited to have a little happy hour at the wine bar after checking in- the hotel website mentions it's open till 10pm. It is actually not, unsure of when they changed their hours- but they were closed upon our arrival at the hotel at 6pm. They are currently only serving coffee and pastries not full breakfast. You'll have to visit the hotel restaurant for a full breakfast. We finally were able to visit the following morning for coffee and a few pastries before exploring for the day. My husband enjoyed his iced latte and scone. The cinnamon roll was good, very rich and sweet! Could be split with a friend- as it's a giant portion. The drip coffee was ok, a tad bitter. The space is beautifully decorated and has a very European flair. A gorgeous space. It's a quiet little spot and was not busy at all on a Sunday morning. You order your coffee at the bar and seat yourself. Rating 4 stars because of discrepancies in hours and no wine at all being served and the hours on the hotel website not being accurate and up to date. Would have been nice to know heading into our stay.

This place is very nice and beautiful. It is also a restaurant but there are places to sit and read if you want to linger. Both of the coffees I had were tasty and presented beautifully. Wish the music wasn't pop music but not a huge deal.

Very cute, easy to find breakfast spot attached to the Hotel Fort Des Moines! Wasn't more than half full when we were sat. Server came over right away, took our orders, and we got our breakfast pretty quickly. Then not even a bite into our breakfast a different server came over and just dropped our check off. Didn't ask if everything was good or if we needed anything else. Also weird the check got dropped so early because we both wanted coffees to go, but felt like the bill was already rung up and that was that. Our original server never stopped by after again to check in after either. I ordered Avocado Toast add on Salmon, as you can tell by my photos there was no salmon, very let down, especially because no one checked in to make sure everything was okay or if we needed anything else. Our server also didn't write down our orders or repeat them back which is probably why she forgot or didn't hear the add on salmon I ordered. We dropped our card on the check and time went by we ate our entire meal and then had to ask someone how to check out, oh we had to go up to the counter, which again, no one told us, and the place wasn't busy so we never saw anyone else check out at the counter. The French toast compote stuff on the top was super weird. They used the frozen strawberries and sauce and then added a couple fresh cut strawberries to make them look fresh? The frozen strawberries were so gross looking and didn't get ate. All in all super weird experience, I will not be back, but maybe it was an off day for everyone. They also don't put ice in their water. (2/28/2024 10am)

Met out of town friends staying at the Hotel Fort Des Moines for breakfast. It was the day after Christmas so things were very quiet downtown. We were pretty much the only ones at the restaurant. The food was good. I had the yogurt bowl which was on the sweeter side and I was surprised by the large portion size. My partner got french toast which was great. Our friends got the quinoa bowl (basically a bowl of quinoa with 2 eggs on top, so not very flavorful and different than what was listed in the menu) and eggs, toast and hash browns, which looked good (they commented the toast was incredible). They had credit from the hotel to use on the meal so made it a convenient option for us today.

Very disappointed by coffee art. My whole purpose for going there... my cappuccino with oat milk was good. The avocado toast I had made up for it all and so did the waitress who recommended it to me. She was very cool! It was DELICIOUS. I had it with salmon as recommended. It's a very cute space. Loved the ambiance. It was as cute as it looked on the pictures which I appreciated. Was a nice place to get work done.

My friend and I stopped in on a trip to Des Moines. We were very excited to try as we had seen this place posted on an instagram reel. I got the French toast with berry compote and bacon. My friend got the avocado toast with bacon. I will say the bacon was 10/10. The best bacon I have ever had! The French toast was a little disappointing.. the compote was overwhelming. I felt like it made the French toast soggy. The strawberries were mushy and definitely frozen. There was some fresh strawberries thrown in which were better but the mushy ones were definitely not eaten. My friend asked for salmon with her toast but the waitress forgot to order it that way. When my friend wanted to ask for salmon, we were never checked on or asked how our food was so she didn't ask. The restaurant was very cute & lovely inside which we loved but overall, it was underwhelming when we hoped for better.

This is located in the beautiful Hotel Fort Des Moines. There is plenty of natural light and good service. I wouldn't recommend this place for a big group. Their breakfast menu wasn't huge but they have everything you need! We ended up getting a pastry, pancakes, coffee and a latte. The food was great and the coffee was super fresh.

Coffee by the morning wine bar by night... yes please! The historic Hotel Fort Des Moines Hotel has the cutest new spot for you to grab coffee and wine. Their coffee bar has delicious drink options with homemade flavor options (lavender honey) and the wine bar has the best happy hour specials! It's cozy, it's cute, it's a new favorite of mine! I have fallen in love with this spot and the staff has been exceptionally kind!

Beautiful decor, great lighting and ambience for studying, working, catching up with friends, or going on a date.

When I walked in I loved how quiet and cozy the spot was so that set the dining expectation. I was attended to by Travis who is awesome and embodies hospitality and service (thank you Travis!) and decided to dive in for the Cajun Alfredo entree. I have been to New Orleans so many times and tried different variants of Cajun Alfredo pasta and I will say that this is one of the BEST I have had outside New Orleans. The pasta was perfectly cooked, flavored and balanced plus the portion was great. Travis was also very kind to knock out the sausage as I don't eat pork and substituted it with some chicken. I look forward to returning now that I have a spot to come back to!

After the show we got: The Polar Express O with Diplomatico Rum, Sweetened Condensed Milk, coffee topped with cold foam, and grated chocolate. Very boozy and strong. Didn't look very good in the glass, but tasted ok. Very strong. She choose the Cold Brew Martini and it was excellent with Ketel One Vodka, Averna Amaro, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup, and House Cold Brew Coffee. The service was great. Will be back for more drinks.

I'm not really an upscale guy when it comes to my typical stomping grounds. More often I stay more West and don't frequent downtown without a specific purpose. There's a lot of great businesses downtown. I'm just a small town guy and I sometimes feel a little out of place in the heart of the metro. And anyone else hate that back-in parking found in the E Village? Lol That being said... The bar has a nice vibe, quiet and dimly lit (at least at the time of day we were there), and with large windows with a view of both E Walnut and E 4th St. Parking options mainly consist of metered parking on the adjacent streets. The food menu includes mostly finger foods. Flatbreads, bruschetta, and charcuterie. The flatbreads served were pretty good. I really liked the honey garlic alfredo flatbread ($12 on the menu)! The gentleman manning the bar was doing a fantastic job especially considering our event started at 530pm and he was pretty much hit with a rush of all of us attending. The old fashioned I ordered was done well and I enjoyed it (Bulleit bourbon and $10 on the menu). A lot of their signature cocktails are named keeping with a railroad motif. Happy Hour is 300pm - 600pm and a reverse Happy Hour from 800pm - 1000pm most days. Half price select cocktails and wine. Check out the Specials section of their site. Link is below. The bar is adjacent to the lobby area which was setup with a few high tops, tables and chairs, and couches for us to relax on. I'm not sure if this is standard or was specific to our event. All in all I enjoyed my time at The New Northwestern and would definitely go back if invited or I found myself in the E Village with time to make a quick stop in. A big thank you to the owners and staff of The New Northwestern for hosting us! https://thenewnorthwestern.com/
