I brought a prescription in. I was told it would be about 2 weeks for my glasses to be made. Two weeks later I did get a voice mail that there was a mistake made at the lab and my lenses had to be remade. There was no rushing the remake and I did not receive my glasses for another +2 weeks. I called on a Friday and was told they'd be in on Monday. By 3 pm Monday, I called again to check. I was told they "hadn't gotten a chance" to check in the shipment. While I was on the phone, the person did open the box and confirmed my glasses had arrived and I could stop by and pick them up. When I arrived, my glasses still hadn't been "checked in". They were quite pleasant when my order was taken, but the service I received after that was poor, at best. Fortunately, the glasses are great. read more

My first appointment in over years for an eye exam, contact Lenae and RX glasses. I was told that I could come in and get my RX for my glasses, for my contact lenses and that my concern for my floaters would be addressed. I came in with a few concerns and saw Roger Ammon. A previous infection from 20 years ago I wanted to be checked, dry eye, floaters. I asked him if he wanted my glasses on or off for the first exam and he snarkly said "Well yeah, if you want me to know how well you see with your glasses". The next exam he asked me to take them off for a different test. I was a bit annoyed because I thought it was a fair question especially since he asked me to take them off for the second. He said my eyes didn't look red or irritated. Then at the end I asked him if I could have a contact lense exam and he said he doesn't usually do them in that same appointment (I guess he charges for another appointment for contact lense, wow $$$). He said, well with your eye irritated I am not sure. Didn't he just tell me they weren't irritated or red? That's odd. So he handed me a hand wipe and said wipe your hands and put these contact lenses in (I've only ever been asked to wash hands but whatever). I left and then today called and asked him what he thought about my floaters. He said I never mentioned it to him and that I'd have to come in and get my eyes dilated. When I asked if I'd be charged he said yes. The receptionist said that I could come back and make another appointment. My concern was that they were going to charge me again! Now, we are a family of 5 with eye care needs, this was my first appointment and I won't be back. This office and Roger need to do better. They should have 1. Informed me on the call that I'd have to make a seperate appointment for the contact lense RX (no one does this, it's always same appointment). This comes across very greedy to make the patient come back and pay again when they are already in the chair (obviously no patient would agree to this when they can go elsewhere and be charged for one visit). 2. Informed me that dilation to diagnosis floaters would also be another appointment (this is absurd as I have been dialted in the same appointment for RX glasses and contacts as I have been in them for 30 years) Again, obviously no one would agree to this either as they could go elsewhere and have this all done in one appointment 3. When they realized that they overlooked my concern about my floaters not being addressed, they should have apologized and eaten the cost so that they could keep me as a patient, acquire my husband as a patiend, and my three children in addition to a positve review I would have left for them. I would rather pay another optometrist to look at my floaters who I can trust especially if the office boils all this down to "sorry you didn't accept another appointment". Are you kidding me? I should have looked at the other poor reviews on here before ever coming in. read more

This was my worst eye doctor experience ever! We almost turned and walked out when we saw the sign posted at their desk that said if "we break your glasses while we are adjusting them, we are not responsible". But we made the mistake of feeling obligated because we had made a commitment through an appointment. In hindsight, we made a terrible mistake! Because I have diabetes, the office decided to submit the claim to my health insurance rather that my vision insurance. When tithe claim was not paid, I called the office and a very unpleasant woman in the office said I would need to talk to the doctor about the billing and took a message. After 3 business days without a call back, I called again and spoke to the same woman who told me the doctor was busy and I would need to wait. She explained that the insurance "made" them file the claim like that. When I called the insurance company, they told me that was not true and provided directions on how to resubmit the claim. I went back to the office and after a very heated conversation with the doctor and assuring him I would reimburse him for the difference in what the insurance paid and what he billed he finally agreed to bill the insurance that way. The insurance paid over half of the bill, he invoiced me for the remaining amount and I paid the bill. I have never had an establishment that should thrive on repeat business and customer referrals treat me in such a disrespectful, rude way. Beware! read more

I was visiting family and had an emergency. Eyeworks got me right in and fixed my problem. They were amazing!!!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy to make an appointment as a new patient. I wasn't sure which insurer I had for vision coverage and the staff helped me out and researched my benefits for me. Vision exam was started right at my appointment time. The Dr. was patient and fully explained all of his recommendations. For eyeglasses, the showroom has a lot of great options in a big range of prices but I didn't feel even a small amount of pressure to buy anything. read more

I needed my very first pair of glasses, and progressive at that. I went to about 7 places before I settled on Eyeworks. Tressa was extremely patient and helpful when choosing frames. After I received my glasses, I felt that they were not correct. I went back to my eye doctor and then back to Eyeworks. It seems that my eye doctor did not prescribe an appropriate prescription. Dr. Ammon was wonderful. He did not have to spend the time that he spent with me getting me straightened out but he took the time, twice, to make sure that I understood the issues with my prescription. Can't wait to get my glasses back with the correct prescription from Dr. Ammon. The office staff has been nothing but amazing. Tressa is the best!! read more

I came to eyeworks looking for a new contact prescription and glasses. The staff was friendly and i was seen at my scheduled time. The doctor was really nice and seemed thorough during the exam. I will definitely be back next year. read more

Dr. Ammon was wonderful -- pleasant and informative. But his office staff is THE WORST. Went there today with my daughter and we could not leave soon enough. In fact, she asked if we could NOT go back there ever again! Unfortunately, we do have to go back to pick up her glasses. The man at the counter was rude and unhelpful -- made me feel like I was imposing on him when I asked what our insurance covers. Gave me some vague answer (to make me give up asking) to which even my daughter said: "Mom, he's not answering your question." Another girl told us to go ahead and pick out a frame and she will tell us how much it costs. WHAT?! I want to know which level of frames we can pick from BEFORE we spend the time selecting a frame and falling in love with it! My daughter asked a question about a frame which she liked, but it was not sitting correctly on her face. Again, she was given some unhelpful, nebulous answer. She also had a question about her prescription but the girl did not (or could not) understand the question. Instead of saying: "Let me ask the doctor", she threw some gibberish at us. By now, my daughter decided to be more assertive and said: "No, that is NOT what I am asking." Needless to say, AVOID THIS PLACE at all costs! read more

Perhaps it's somewhat my fault, as I entered Four Eyes into my GPS and the instructions drove me to Hockessin Eyeworks. Surprised at the high cost of simple frames. Picked frames, paid for frames, received no receipt. After two weeks heard nothing so I called THEM to learn my glasses were ready. Turns out the frames I selected blocked my blind spot when driving so I never wore them after the first day. Long story short, between chemo sessions and other health issues, it was two months before I got around to calling to ask about a partial refund if I returned the glasses. By then I had already purchased another set from another, much more customer oriented store. Both Penney's and Lens Crafters offer a refund and, after what I paid, I was hoping for some understanding. I was told I had to come back in person to speak to someone. The next business day which was ten days ago, I returned the eyeglasses and tried to wait to speak to the owner as he's apparently the only decision maker. Yes, the owner was in and I offered to wait and speak to the owner in person. I was told that any other customers (there were none) that happened by must be seen first so my waiting there was not recommended. Why was I told to come all the way back there if no one would discuss this with me? I left my useless eyeglasses and was given a promise someone would get back to me. After 11 days and no word, I again called to check the status of a partial refund. The office manager told me the only way to help me was to charge me for another set of frames. Ridiculous that the only solution they could come up with was that I pay for a second set of frames while returning brand new ones. I wonder how long it will take for them to return my useless, paid for eyeglasses? Save yourself time and aggravation and go somewhere else. read more
