This store is for any hockey enthusiasts or anyone starting to get into the game of hockey. We came in for a pair of skates, and the staff did a superb job in assisting us picking out the skates. They have a foot measurement scale that is computer enabled with precise measurements, ensuring the skates fit perfectly. When purchasing skates, they offer free sharpening that is included with the purchase. They also offer professional sharpening when needed and highly recommend if you are unsure, just simply bring in your skates, and the staff will be glad to assist you. They have an extensive variety of gear with many brand names and sizes. They also have Dallas Star fan apparel as well. If you can't make it to a store, they have an online store as well with direct shipping to your house. Overall, this store is as good as it gets when purchasing hockey equipment. The prices and value are priced fairly with high-quality name brands such as CCM, Bauer, and Warrior, to name a few. They also have a reward program as well so be sure to give them an email address when checking out to stack up on rewards and save some money. I'll definitely be back to grab some more gear to continue with my hockey journey!

    I feel like a kid in a candy store at the place. I have to remind myself to "look with my eyes, not…read moremy hands" but at the same time I find myself reaching to hold the $350 hockey stick and comparing it to various items weight such as a #2 pencil, a hair tie, a little kid hockey glove, this store is fun! Lots of hockey equipment, gear, and stuff that you 100% do not need but you will find yourself grabbing them and saying "woah, look at this". They offering skate sharpening here too but it's not fun tk watch like "back in the day". This is not hand sharpened, no fun sparks, no cool noise, just an employee putting the skate in a box and letting the machine handle it all, sigh, I don't love that. I get it, and I'll get my skates sharpened here but I was almost shocked that it wasn't hand done anymore. It's okay, the practice puck area will help me get over it. :)

    Having just moved from Denver, I was on the hunt for a new pair of skates. My last pair of Vapors…read morelasted me 8-9 years of on/off seasons mixed with stick and puck sessions and taking my neices skating during the holidays. I have always had hot and cold experiences with shops dating back even before Players Bench and Monkey Sports came around. I brought my old Vapors in to compare with whatever skates I was trying on that night. I ended up buying another pair of Vapors that were on clearance and skated on them a couple times. They definitely felt a lot more aggressive than my last pair. Enter Ryan and Parker. Both of them helped me on different occasions and was easily able to talk hockey as well as babble about our favorite NHL teams. I felt comfortable from the start and there was no nonsense which came highly appreciated. We decided the pair of Supremes I tried on were more in line with my skating style now, so we swapped out. On first skate, I knew these were my skates. I have dealt with the aforementioned shops before and ended up dealing with clowns. The guys here at Pure Hockey are straightforward and explain their methodology and the science behind it all. Most important is that it all makes sense and is consistent. I even saw a mom come in to buy skates for her son and they spoke to her the same way they spoke to me! Kudos to the staff here. Looking forward to replacing more gear in the near future!

We arrived today Saturday, August 2, 2025 around 2:30pm. There were two gentlemen facing us upon entry that I assumed were going to greet us. Instead they were chatting it up and couldn't be bothered by us. But I get it, maybe the conversation was good. Next we traveled towards the back of the store to check out their shoe selection. There were over 20 people standing around waiting. I saw no employees in the shoe department. We hung around for about 10 minutes and then decided to take our business elsewhere. While walking towards the exit around 2:44pm I said to my wife I wonder where all the help is located and that's when I saw it. There were 6 employees standing at the front counter chatting away. A few gentlemen even high fived one another. But once again upon leaving no one could've been bothered by us enough to say have a good day. Before writing this review, I scrolled through the history of reviews and observed only one from 3 years ago that spoke to the customer service of the place and they stated it was a terrible experience. I can't blame the employees. I blame the leadership. They should hold their team accountable. With poor leadership follows poor employee service. Do better Dick's. I'm sorely disappointed in today's experience and do not plan to return anytime soon.

    As a former employee who use to work here during the summer, I would like to leave some tips and…read morepointers to hopefully help anyone present or future. When calling the store... I am not sure why the phone system takes you back and forth with the calls and transfers, INSTEAD, next you call dial '0' (zero) and it will send you straight to the store phone with someone immediately, NO wait time! Wanting to buy an item but want to make sure they have before driving to location or could be the last in stock?... Again, when calling the store always dial '0' (zero) to be sent straight to someone who has the store phone. It was crucial a manager or team leader would have the phone and must answer at all times. Now say you want to be sure possibly the item you want is actually there, depending on the item they will transfer you to the department needed and an associate will try to check for the item straight away. (Best Tip: depending on item, it is best to have a "SKU number" handy, this will help them best see the item you want in the system and all details for it.) Questions for online, curbside, in store pick up orders... #1 rule at Academy, THEY CANNOT PUT ITEMS ON HOLD! They will always suggest to order online, why is it best? You order will have a 7 days period to pick up, after that it will go back on floor, payment amount will be put on HOLD, not charged, until AFTER COMPLETED pick up. If order is CANCELLED, simple reasons are the item(s) are they DO NOT have them. Regardless of what the system says, system/online is NOT always accurate. Better to call and verify. Now since order is cancelled, you will NOT BE CHARGED! Depending on bank, it will take 2-3 business days for the full refund. I will admit compared to other stores, the emails TAKE FOREVER to notify you that your order is ready/ been picked up/ or cancelled. Merchandise info... 3 trucks arrive throughout the week, they do not know what they will get UNTIL IT ARRIVES. So any questions about certain clothes, shoes, ammunition, grills, play sets, etc. won't be truly known until they receive shipment. Wanting items built, shipped, or delivered... Many times people wanted their bikes, grills, and even play houses built and be ready for pick up for a certain day. Depending on item, it can be built but there is a third party builder, meaning they won't always be there and if so it will only be once a week. Certain items can be shipped or delivered to home, depending on item there may be a shipping charge, like a playground set or even a grill. IT ALL DEPENDS ON ITEM & LOCATION! Having to wait a long time, or no one there to help... Since the pandemic, every business has been affected one way or another, either short staffed or illnesses. In this case, many people are hired by what they know or are only trained to do for the acquired job. Meaning someone taking care of the clothing department can't say they know everything and anything about certain guns or ammunition. Or a cashier knowing every bit of information about a certain bike or athletic gear. Waiting a long time to get help will be one of the following: someone for that department is busy helping a customer or another associate with some task request, short staffed or no one is there for that department, getting held up with customer after customer. IT HAPPENS, but please be understanding many places are SHORT STAFFED, so someone can't always help immediately or be there in 2.5 seconds. Really want to grab managers attention by how your experience went?... After every purchase, BOTTOM OF RECEIPT! A survey to let the store know how your experience was, if you received help and if so who? (Name of employee) Was there anything good/bad about your visit, if bad then how can store improve? THESE REVIEWS ARE SEEN BY MANAGERS EVERYDAY! So they truly MATTER, even if you go for a simple purchase of a cup to a cart full of items, this will let managers know what happened and how to fix it. If you guys experience any issues or questions let me know, I'll be more than happy to help. I'm just trying to pass along advice to help anyone in anyway.
