Its a great place to get some cash for old gear you might have sitting around, and a cheaper way to get the kids into new gear once they have outgrown their current equipment. I wish there were places like this when I was young. As a parent I have spent some serious time here and have found many really good deals. They asked what cut I wanted and the fellow went to work. During the process of getting the skates done, I met the new owner (Andrew Thrasher). I went in today and spoke with Kevin. He told me they buy wedges anywhere from $1-$100. I had a like new wedge Callaway raw last years model. Bought it for 160$ played 3 rounds with it. I saw they were selling the same wedge but 58 degree for 130$ in store in the exact same condition as my wedge. So I figured I would sell it for 100$ since that's basically the nicest and highest price wedge in the game. I figured I would take 80$ for it at worst case scenario. Great used gear, great service, and great skate sharpening! I've been coming here regularly since I first started playing hockey last year. At the time I was just trying it out and wanted to get some cheap but serviceable used gear until I knew if I was going to stick with it. I was also a little nervous because I was an adult woman getting into a largely-male sport, and I know from experience with other traditionally male hobbies that that's not always the most friendly environment to go into. But these guys put all my worries to rest! (Side note, I did stick with it and now hockey is a huge and wonderful part of my life. The Dallas adult hockey community is fantastic and welcoming, so if you have ever considered it, definitely try it out! And get your starter gear from Play It Again, they're great!) They were very helpful, spent a lot of time with me finding gear my size (which was more difficult than I anticipated, since as a short woman it turns out I ride the line between juniors and seniors sizing), and gave me a lot of really useful advice about fit and style preferences. For under $100, I left with a full set of gear except a helmet, as I had to go elsewhere for that (the brand of new helmets they carry didn't have a size that fit me comfortably, sadly). I returned several times over the next few weeks as I figured out what worked for me and didn't and they were always great about helping me try different options and returning and exchanging gear with no hassle. And the gear selection they have is honestly great! In the last year I've upgraded most pieces to new ones bought elsewhere, but I still use the same shin guards and pants I got from them in the beginning--and the pants are because they are such a great pair that I can't buy a new pair that is better without spending $200. The MSRP for them new is $160....and I got them for I think $30-40! And they were in great condition apart from some messed up zippers--an easy fix! They also do great sharpening here. I get mine sharpened on a regular basis by them, and while you wouldn't think a used sports equipment store would beat out the two major hockey gear stores in the area, they definitely do. Have never had a bad sharpen from these guys, the only better you can get in the area is up in Farmers Branch. They also have a sharpening punch card, which is nice. I love all the Play it Again Sports locations that I have frequented. They typically have a decent selection of both used and new brand name equipment, and they keep space aligned with the current season. If you're just picking up a sport, or play it infrequently and don't need high-end gear, then this is the place to go. They give reasonable credit for trade-ins too. Showed up at this location to buy a couple of used discs for disc golf. They have a box with about 50 used assorted discs at $4.25 each, and another box with about 50 ranging from $6.99 to $8.99. Then they have a wide selection of new discs from the big names. Only glimpsed around the rest of the store, but it appeared pretty standard Play it Again Sports layout and selection. Well staffed with friendly employees. The owner rang me up and he has owned the location for 17 years. Always nice to support a small business owner. read more

These guys here make this play well worth the 30 min drive. They took the time to fit my son in tackle football gear. They made sure everything fit as is should. They did not try and sell us new or the the most expensive thing. They even explained why certain brands and style are a better or not fit for certain size players. Josh was great, I feel very confident my son is in the right safety gear for the season. On a another note, their buy back prices for store credit are amazing. Drove all the way out to this location to see if I could save money on a used Olympic Weight Bar only to find a selection of rusted out bars priced about the same amount as it would cost for me to purchase a new one. Also they did not have clips. Even the plates were heavily rusted. Nice selection but the quality and prices were sh**!! read more

Sales associate was nice but the mgr wanted nothing to do with people and acted like everyone was bothering him just by being in the store. All his answers were short and basically take it or leave it . A Mom was looking for football gear with her son and he could not be bothered to help just pointed at the back where stuff was. I asked about a bat and he dismissed me without even looking at me. Oh well maybe thats why they have multiple bats on the rack that have visible cracks in them. read more

Play it Again is a great place to go, buy, sell, and trade sports equipment. It's very reliable and trustworthy even though many items are used. I went in and talked to see if I could leave a donations box for a charity I've started, and the Manager was really nice and compassionate and really listened to what we have to say. From now on if you go there and take in items you can't sell to them they'll keep it and then donate it to my charity efforts. Overall a great place with great customer service read more

Better than looking through ads on craigslist and trying to decide if people are shady and if it is safe to meet them in the McDonald's parking lot after work to buy items. This location had plenty of used equipment, specifically the dumbbells that I am looking for to complete our home gym. Definitely will recommend. read more

We visited this location to purchase hockey gear. They have a wonderful, friendly knowledgable staff. They are so helpful. They explained stock options, differences and what we needed they made us a grip for the stick and taped it for us. They also helped us in two previous visits on helmet fitting and other gear we needed. Josh is one of the managers and he always has a staff member help me that is knowledgable about hockey or played the sport. This place can suck on my cleats. Wanted to pay me $30 cash or $75 store credit for barely used baseball bats (one they were only going to pay be $1.50 for), only used once pop up soccer goal, 2 pair of Nike cleats that were scrubbed shiny clean with a toothbrush, like new football gloves, 3 practice football jerseys of which only two were actually used and only for one season of flag football, a flag football helmet, two awesome baseball bags, and brand new practice shorts. In. Sane. No, not taking it. I would rather GIVE them to random strangers that just look like nice people than this store to bend me over and make 10 times the amount their willing to give me in cash!!! By the looks of this place, they're going out of business because they bought too many golf discs and aren't able to sell a single one since an entire wall is covered with them. So, if you're in the market--and want to pay $17+ for a used one--this is the store for you but you'd better hurry before they close the doors. read more

I went in after work needing some gear for my workout area at home. I have never been here before, but it is on my way home and probably better that going out of my way to Academy, so I thought. As I walk in the door, I make eye contact to the gentleman behind the desk, smirk and give a friendly, "hey, how's it going." He, with out reply, just goes back to staring at his computer screen. I pause waiting to see if he will ask if I need help, seeing how I don't know where anything is. He doesn't, so I go off on my own. Luckily I will say the store has an easy layout so I was able to find what I needed no problem. However, now I can't find stickers, labels, or signs for how much what I was looking at cost. As I'm there looking puzzled, instead of walking around and asking the other customers and my self if we need assistance that two workers are at the front, and what sounded like getting into a pretty heated Argument, either with each other or about a customer. This goes on for several several minutes then one of them finally comes out, so I ask my question of the price, he then gives me the answer with that tone that I must be stupid. So now, thoroughly agitated, I am checking out. I see they have a punching bag out side, and I ask if they knew how much it was. With that same tone, said "I don't know, it's probably on it, but if not I don't know." Thanks, real helpful. Other than the staff, the place seemed cool, and the prices aren't too bad. However, I'll probably go to Academy for a while instead. read more

Went to play it again sports looking for football gear. The owner quoted me a price. When I didn't want to buy any merchandise from the store, he lowered his quote. Will not recommend or shop there anymore. There are other locations in the area. You may have better service there. read more
