Having just moved from Denver, I was on the hunt for a new pair of skates. My last pair of Vapors lasted me 8-9 years of on/off seasons mixed with stick and puck sessions and taking my neices skating during the holidays. I have always had hot and cold experiences with shops dating back even before Players Bench and Monkey Sports came around. I brought my old Vapors in to compare with whatever skates I was trying on that night. I ended up buying another pair of Vapors that were on clearance and skated on them a couple times. They definitely felt a lot more aggressive than my last pair. Enter Ryan and Parker. Both of them helped me on different occasions and was easily able to talk hockey as well as babble about our favorite NHL teams. I felt comfortable from the start and there was no nonsense which came highly appreciated. We decided the pair of Supremes I tried on were more in line with my skating style now, so we swapped out. On first skate, I knew these were my skates. I have dealt with the aforementioned shops before and ended up dealing with clowns. The guys here at Pure Hockey are straightforward and explain their methodology and the science behind it all. Most important is that it all makes sense and is consistent. I even saw a mom come in to buy skates for her son and they spoke to her the same way they spoke to me! Kudos to the staff here. Looking forward to replacing more gear in the near future! read more

In town for USA Nationals, so a visit to Pure Hockey was certainly on the itinerary. Good selection, favoring Bauer gear (unfortunately excluded from our discount.) Helpful sales team, and not overly intrusive. Prices similar to other shops, although USA Hockey discount saved us money. (Who knew we needed so much tape?!?) read more

If your looking for Hockey items look no further! Amazing store. I never even notice there was a store like this until someone directed us here. They have skates, and all supplies pertaining to ice hockey. What makes this store even more amazing is the people. Customer service was very attentive. The gentlemen who assisted us was beyond helpful and friendly! He was able to answer any question and informed us that most workers here have played professional Hockey or enjoys Hockey. So they have a machine that tells them what size skates will fit you. The skates vary from 50 to 1900. Depending on what your looking for. What makes this place awesome is they will sharpen your skates and fit your skates on your foot. They can tighten, heat, stretch and bend them to fit your feet comfortably. I will definitely come back to sharpen my skates. Customer service was so great we left there with 3 new pairs fitted and sharpened Ice skates;). Will be coming back for more items. read more

Pure hockey is by far the best hockey-centric chain equipment store there is. Hands down. The customer service I've received here every time I've purchased equipment from here is the main reason I keep coming back. Their website is easy to use, they have a really awesome rewards system as well to help out with the constant purchasing of sticks, skate sharpening, tape, etc. It helps get a little more back when you have to buy those things anyways because hockey is an insanely expensive sport. But they give that back to you in reward for your loyalty to them. Which I like that a lot. Texas is fortunate to have Pure around a very good location in Frisco as well. It's easy for just about everyone to get to this location. Unfortunately, Fort Worth hasn't jumped on the bandwagon for their own location. I know plenty of guys on my teams that will travel to Pure in Frisco when they're in Fort Worth. But Pure hockey is their preference! read more

Prices are the same as online, plus I can actually see if something is in stock before I go to the store. Their skate sharpening has never let me down, both before and after the move to sparx machines. Staff is always available to help but is never pushy and will leave you alone if you just want to look around. read more

My son recently learned how to ice skate and play hockey. When his focus turned to being a goalie he used house equipment, until now. He and I traveled 300 miles to Pure Hockey to get the proper goalie equipment. We met sales pep Ryan who was SUPER. He spent an hour and a half with my son and I. Ryan patiently allowed My son to try on every brand name and appropriate size of the items we needed. Ryan was very informative about the equipment and never tried to "sell us" As a parent I am more than satisfied my son has the best protection available as others take shots at him in goal. Amazing store. I played hockey as a kid and a little but as an adult. I hadn't skated in 22 years when i entered the store. I was amazed. Great selection and very friendly staff. They answered all of my dumb questions with patience and a smile. When I got home, I realized they didn't ring up my skate sharpening with my other items. I called them so I could pay and the manager, Trepps, told me it it was a 'Welcome Back to Hockey' gift. I insisted on paying and he said, he did it on purpose. What service! read more

It is one of the worst shops I've been to for goaltenders. I went a few weeks ago to get a new stick and I use composite sticks. There selection was not great and most of it was lower quality products. I went today to get my holders changed and I called beforehand to make sure they do it and when I got there they then informed me it would take 24 hours. I drove 45 minutes for them to say that when I need them for tomorrow. And I know it doesn't take that long because I've seen a 5'2 girl bust out both skates in 45 minutes. I would not recommend going to this store. read more

Hockey Giant offers most anything an ice hockey player could possibly want. Since Players Bench in Richardson closed, this store is now the most convenient in North DFW area. They've got a large store with every piece of gear you could want, from kids to adult sizes. Lots of sticks. Lots of clothes. Lots of jerseys, etc. You can get your skates sharpened*, get jerseys with printed numbers on it in about 15 minutes, new laces in a rainbow of colors, etc. You're probably already familiar with the name since they've got a great online site. You can have things sent to the store if you see something online that isn't in stock at the store. When I was there last, they did not carry women's gear. For the most part, that doesn't matter but it would be nice for them to carry a few items since there are lots of women that play in the area. When it comes to skate sharpening, there's always a heated debate with regards to Hockey Giant. You CAN get a decent sharpening at HG, but unfortunately there's a medium chance that they'll mess it up. Higher than at other shops that local players prefer. Since there are quite a few people who will sharpen at HG, sometimes you'll get a more experienced sharpener and sometimes you won't. Sometimes you'll get someone at the end of their shift who just does a rush job. Check your skates before you leave. If you see an issue or notice an issue the next skate, just take them back and have them fix it. They will correct their mistakes. If you're incredibly particular about your skates, just go to Lewisville. If you'd be satisfied with a decent job, HG is a valid option. Personally I'd rather go to HG with a 75% chance at getting a decent sharpen, than drive all the way to Lewisville for a 98% chance at getting a good sharpen. But I'm just not that picky and I'm not afraid of asking the store to correct a mistake if one is made. UPDATE - Lewisville is no longer an option for skate sharpening since that store closed down as well. According to the local hockey community, the only option is Farmer's Branch Blades by Todd, but that's quite a hike from HG. My last sharpening at HG was great. The time before that, it was bad and I had to bring them back to be re-done. They remain hit or miss, as of early 2017. read more

Worst customer service ever. After an hour drive, one way to get to this store. We walked in, all the way to the back and were prepared to spend $200-$400 on new skates and other gear. Three guys at the front of the store and one strolling aimlessly around, not one person said so much as one word to me or my wife the entire time we were in the store. One of the employees made eye contact with me as he walked silently past me, twice. I'm a very patient person when a store is busy, I know it takes time to get to everyone. But today, there was no one to get to and the service was dismal, at best. The store was clean and had a ton of stuff to look at, unfortunately I couldn't bring myself to spend a penny in there. Finally! I nice quality hockey equipment store in the Frisco/Plano area. I'm excited to finally have a convenient location to visit when we need something and they appear to have it all. The staff members were courteous and helped us find what we needed. Our challenge has been finding youth sizes and I didn't have any issues finding youth equipment, jerseys, and skates. First off let me start by giving you a little bit of my background so you understand my experience in the industry. I have actively been playing hockey for over 15 years. I had recently moved to the metroplex area and was looking for a shop who could sharpen my skates. Enter hockey giant, pretty much one of the only shops in the area. Post arrival I was greeted by, no one. I Checked out the the store and looked at different goalie products. I did not have one individual approached me and ask if I needed help. Their selection of goalie sticks was poor and there were lots of gaps in sizes and curves. I then brought my goalie skates in for a sharpening. They asked me what size Hollow I would like and I responded with a 3/8. After a 30 minute wait my two sets of runners had been completed. I Then went to the rink to try them out. After skating for 1.2 seconds I immediately knew they were 3/4. I brought them back to the store and asked for the proper hallow. Another 30 minutes and I was on my way again. I hit the ice a few days later and another crappy sharpening. I just can not tolerate all the driving and time for a crappy sharpening. This to me is the most import thing to a player or in my case a goalie. I should have known better when I saw a bunch of high school kids working in this poorly managed store. So I bought a Sparx. Now my runners are cut at home and a perfect every time. I don't work for Sparx and have not received any compensation to plug them in this review.
