Road, Mountain, Trail and Triathlon are all here, and prices are competitive for a full-service retail store. Probably have 200 bikes on stock at any given time. Basic clothing and a good spread of accessories for the sport rider and commuter too. A smattering of camping and climbing gear exists but for these guys the bike comes first last and always. The thing that sets HBC apart is that it is a serious bike store, not just a bike shop. Yes, it has a great guy running the place, just like the other shops. Yes, they have their quirks and a history that runs deeper than the Marianas Trench. But the great thing about HBC is that you can be a person of just about any ability or aspiration in cycling, and walk out after one visit with pretty much exactly what you needed or wanted at a fair price. That is no mean feat in today's online-dominated, razor-thin margin environment. Lafayette and Tippco are amazingly well-served by HBC. It's a bit like finding a Chevy dealer in a tiny town surrounded by cornfields, that also sells Ferarri and Jaguar. Virtuous Cycles downtown is a great bike shop too, with a better clothing selection, great people and some great bikes. I visit them too. But I always start at HBC.

They have storage services as well , which is extremely helpful. Don't be intimidated by the general chaos that this place can seem! The fellows working there are helpful in getting what you need.

I was told this service would take a couple days, which I expected, and left my bike with them. I then received a message 2 days later saying they had replaced the inner tube and just needed to get confirmation to go ahead with some brake repairs, which I approved for the estimated price of 76.02. I then heard nothing from them for 3 weeks. As it is midterm season and I am in a challenging major, I didn't have time to be thinking about my bike, so I assumed parts were on back order or something. Eventually I caved and messaged possible times I could pick up the bike. I was then messaged after both of the times I gave, such that I couldn't pick up my bike for another week. When finally messaged back, I discovered they uncharged me to 116.02 for a service I did not approve. When I eventually made it into the shop, I inquired about the time and the price. The employee I talked to gave me attitude saying, "It sounds like you should open your own bike shop." After repeatedly telling the employee I was talking to I was not mad and simply curious as to what happened, he told me someone put the bike on a rack upstairs and forgot about it for nearly a month. In the end, they took 20$ off the total (still 20$ more than what I was sent in an itemized list). Overall extremely unprofessional experience, I will be fixing my bike on my own from now on.

Top of the line place! Service can't be beat and prices are more than fair!…read more We came in to the area to do some riding at Kickapoo for the weekend but I panicked when I remembered that my sisters bike wasn't shifting and my dads bike sounded like it was having problems in the bottom bracket. Started calling around in Danville, worried we were going to be out the bikes for the weekend since it was such short notice for the repairs. Turns out I worried in vain! Keith told me he had any necessary parts in stock and he'd get us on the trail by the next day. I brought both bikes in late afternoon and had them back next morning! Keith replaced a shifter, changed out the broken bottom bracket, adjusted the derailluers, replaced a badly frayed brake cable, reset the disc brakes that were poorly installed on my dads bike and basically did everything possible to make sure we had a safe, fun weekend on the trails. And boy did we ever! Turns out these guys also help maintain and keep open the Kickapoo trails for us all to enjoy. Great job and a big pat on the back to all the KMBC people and THANK YOU!! Nirvana trail is AWESOME! Can't wait to come back next year! So go to Cycles Plus and support the great job they do and you'll leave knowing you've had your bike taken care of by people who are very good at what they do and care how they do it!
