Been wanting to come here for years and finally did. Not too bad in terms of crowd, self seating seems to be the way of it. Everyone had small beers, I had a weis and some pretzel. All were good. Traditional German music started later and we listened for a while and took it all in. Grabbed a shirt at the gift shop on the way out on the way to more touring.
We went here for dinner on our first night while we were vacationing in Munich. This is one of the places on my hit list that I had to do first. This place is iconic. The atmosphere is exactly what I wanted. Live German music while we ate and drink. The music and the festive vibe there is just electric so many people having fun. Large beer, brew pub with long bench tables to eat at. Nice big gift shop to get your souvenirs. Our waitress who was dressed in a traditional dirndl was super nice and helpful. She was extremely patient with us as we could not decide what to eat for quite a while. I had the German pork knuckle, my son had a schnitzel, and the wife had a pretzel. We found out that pretzels in Germany are not served hot or with dipping sauces. Just the pretzel and butter, and it was still good. I had never had pork knuckle before and I was very pleasantly surprised. Loved it and it was very filling. And of course, the beer too was great.
Have a beer where Mozart had a beer! One of the nicer folks who've frequented the hall and others you can imagine! I've been here before and it was crazy packed! We declined on eating. This time, my daughters were visiting so I decided to take them there for a historical experience. It's rad! Bottom line and a must do when in München. While my youngest wasn't fond of the cuisine, I had the currywurst and it was amazing. As well, the dunkel was tasty and cold! While Mein Deutsch ist Schlect, most of the servers we encountered spoke English. You're going to be crowded. You might get beer spilled on you but you'll have tasty beer, good food, and an experience to talk about back home!
We had so much fun dining here while visiting Munich. The place was lively with so many people and live music playing. It wasn't easy to get seated. I asked another patron how to get a table, and she said to just grab anything that's open. There weren't many tables for 2. Most of the tables were long communal tables, which was cool. Somehow, the servers are able to know who have just arrived. We had just found a seat and started looking at the menu, and within a couple of minutes, a server came to take our order. We shared the Crispy Roast Pork because we didn't want to take anything back to the hotel, and the dishes are huge enough to share. It was delicious. There was a lot of sauce, but the pork skin didn't get soggy. Of course, I had to try their beer. I had the Hofbräu Original, which was so easy to drink. I thought I wouldn't finish it, but it's definitely not heavy like the beers in the U.S. I'm so glad the hotel front desk told us this place would be open on Christmas day.
This place is honestly a MUST VISIT when you are in the city. You could check out the Stein lockers, which is really really cool. I bought myself a Stein while I was there. THE BEER IS JUST DELICIOUS! I'm not really a big beer person, but I found that it was nice and smooth. The food comes out quick, but you need to make sure that you act quick on finding a seat or have a reservation because it is first come first serve. This place is honestly very very traditional and the music is amazing.
You can't visit Munich without stopping here! This iconic spot is packed with history, charm, and of course amazing beer. If you can, read up a bit on the brewery's legacy before you visit, it makes being here during Oktoberfest even more special! Right in the heart of Old Town, you'll find both indoor and outdoor seating, with a classic Bavarian atmosphere that's lively and full of local flavor. I highly recommend the schnitzel and German potato salad--perfectly crispy and tangy paired with a pretzel or brat. And of course, the beer! They serve half-liter mugs and the classic giant steins. The house light is my personal favorite, but they've got great seasonal brews too. A must-visit for anyone who wants the true taste (and spirit) of Munich
The most famous beer hall in Munich - an experience you have to have. The place is huge and packed. Tons of people watching with tourists from all over the world mixed with long standing locals. You choose a seat - probably at a shared table - and servers come to you. This choosing a seat process is a little mystifying - we got shooed away from the first table we took that had no signs on it and then laughed as five or six other people experienced the same thing. Maybe put a sign on the table if you aren't serving there? Once we did get seated service was quick and efficient, if gruff. We only had drinks- a mass of dunkel and a mass of Russ'n - a Radler but with wheat beer. Both the beers tasted fresh and clean. Definitely a must do for a drop in!

The food was Bavarian traditional food. Had the pork knuckle which was a bit salty for my personal taste but goes well with beer. The skin is crackling crispy and the best part.

Hofbräuhaus München absolutely lives up to the hype. It was our family's first real experience in Munich, and there couldn't have been a better place to start. The beer was exactly what you'd hope for in Bavaria, the service was friendly, and the food was hearty and satisfying. What really makes this place special is the atmosphere. The hall is grand, colorful, and full of energy while still feeling authentically German. The live traditional music brought the whole experience to life and made us want to stay much longer than we planned. Whether it's your first time in Munich or your tenth, this is one of those places you simply have to experience at least once. read more
My wife and I were in Munich for a five day trip and we had to visit Hofbrauhaus. I ordered a beer from our super rude waiter, he was super curt and wanted us to cash out because he was leaving for the day. The ambience was cool, with tons of seating and I liked the polka band and the beer was pretty good, just the service was super terrible. Visited the famed Hofbräuhaus while in Munich. What a festive and authentic experience! A live band welcomed us in as we made our way to communal seating. The beer was cold and food delicious. read more

Great first dinner in Munich. It is loud, but it's a beer hall but it is fun with the live music. Bread basket (decent, liked a few of the options) 1/2 Bavarian roast chicken (great!) Cheesy pasta dumplings (really good) read more
Bier is bier, but if you're visiting this is an awesome place to stop. Open Sundays, have band playing, great service and English speaking. Food was okay, hence the 4 stars. It's a bit on the pricey side, but worth the experience. read more

I swung by here several times while in Munich and it was always a good time. Sometime dinner (pork knuckle) but always beer. I am a lightweight so I ordered the Ruß'n (wheat beer with lemonade) Shout along when you can and have cash for a giant pretzel. read more
I drug my wife in to enjoy her first Bavarian beer at Hofbrauhaus in Munich. We walked upstairs to enjoy a quieter meal than would be offered downstairs. The decor was traditional yet elegant with numerous tables. I ordered the Winterzwickl which was a very large malt forward beer yet clean to drink and yes I drank it all. The sausages were good as well as the sauerkraut but not remarkable. The bread basket was surprisingly flavorful as the rye breads had amazing flavor. We ended up taking the leftover bread with us to enjoy on our train ride. I highly recommend a visit to enjoy the vibrant music and beer tasting but would temper expectations on the cuisine. read more
I came here for the first time in 2017 and came back again just last year. This place is amazing to drink at but on my last visit I also tried the food. We tried some sausages and some pork knuckle amongst some others items I cant recall. We sat outside on my last visit but if you can sit inside because its just as equally beautiful. The waiters and waitresses here are super busy so a little patience is needed, especially for a popular spot like this. When in Munich absolutely visit Hofbräuhaus! read more
By visiting Munich, I feel like you have to stop by this historic beer hall, but I found it to be loud, dirty, and with mediocre food. The indoor beer hall has live music and rowdy people, making it hard to have conversations if catching up with friends (1 star off); the courtyard is quieter and more relaxing. Both the tables and floor have a persistent stickiness (1 star off), perhaps from spilled over beer? I don't think they are thoroughly cleaned. Lastly, the food is average (1 star off); there are better sausages and meats elsewhere. The only item that stands out for me is their Bavarian cream dessert with macerated strawberries -- kind of like a Bavarian pudding or panna cotta. You pick any table you wish to sit at, and a waitstaff will come to you. The menu is already on the tables. I like the tables by the entrance with ample lighting and great view of the decorated arched ceiling. Hofbräuhaus is mainly a stop for historic significance rather than present enjoyment. read more
This is a 5/5 review of a German beer hall experience. My son and I had the seasonal venison in cranberry sauce, which was first rate. The atmosphere was electric, I think because this was match day between Munich FC and Madrid. At noon, the "Om Pa Pa" band started playing, and everyone joined in. Make sure you purchase a giant pretzel or cheese bread from the woman selling them from table to table, as they are quite good. read more
Quintessential stop while visiting Munich. This place is buzzing any time of day you go. Went on a Wednesday night around 9pm and wasn't able to get a seat in the main hall but was able to find an empty table in one of the adjacent rooms. You fine yourself a seat and the servers come to take your order. The beers come in .5 and 1L sizes and the food you come to expect from Germany, sausages, chicken, pretzels, etc. the servers do speak English but I used my German I took so longer perfecting specifically for this trip. For three of us it was about $100USD after tip so it wasn't that bad but also not super cheap. They have an amazing gift shop where I course bought myself a stein to take home and they have so many cool souvenir options. This places gets so loud and lively and they also have live music, it's just an overall party and a must visit when in Munich. read more
Do yourself a HUGE favor and avoid this place!! IF you want to experience some Bavarian music then go in and listen for a moment, snap a photo and leave OR grab a beer and nothing else. There are way too many other places to eat authentic, amazing, mouth watering food. The server we had was beyond rude. I noticed his face made an angry, disgusted expression when my husband walked away after paying and thought nothing of it. Later that night my husband said he wanted a tip. (We did not eat dinner here). The group of ladies at the table beside us had the same server and I will say they were not prepared to order and he just stood there rolling his eyes and looking up at the ceiling until he left. The staff that walk around selling the 5€60 giant pretzels do not accept exact change or credit cards. You can order from your server. We just thought it would be a fun place to go after the FC Bayern trophy celebration for a snack, drinks and strudel. The snack we wanted was sold out (it even stated on the menu so it was not a surprise) and the strudel and pretzel was absolutely nothing to write home about. The beer was fine as well as the orange juice. If you want an amazing meal that your tastebuds will be dreaming about for years to come then go to the Ayinger that is across to the right. I usually do not write negative reviews but I wanted to save anyone that thinks this place is a good choice from wasting your time and money. Originally built in 1589 but the public was not admitted until 1828. I have heard about this place for years as one of the most famous beer halls in the world and a must visit stop for Oktoberfest and beyond. Being that I was visiting Munich for the first time I knew I had to check this place out and really glad that I did. Visited late on a Friday night in late March and it was PACKED. It's spread over multiple floors but the 2nd floor is for groups of 4 or more. We could not find a seat inside so we sat in the outdoor courtyard in the center of the restaurant. As we were leaving we saw about 40 old German men in lederhosen right out front marching away with flags and the whole regalia and it was the perfect German end to the night. They all came from inside and what were they doing? I have no idea but I loved watching it. For my first time I ordered their blonde lager and loved it. Ended up getting two actually. For my meal we got the cheese and onion dip which was just OK but the Wienerschnitzel was terrific. One of the better ones that I had in Munich. Pricing was fair and our server was polite but he disappeared after bringing our food so I had to hunt him down to check out. I loved the energy of the restaurant and is a great place to bring a big group. Not really for a date but great for bringing friends. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in Munich. read more

Huge beers and even bigger pretzels and live music, there really isn't much more you can ask for from a beer hall. This is definitely a touristy spot so if you are looking for a low-key spot full of locals, this isn't it. But, the energy of this place is great! We were here on a Monday night at 8 or 9pm and the place was packed. We circled tables for about 10-15 minutes before finally catching a group leaving and were able to grab their table. The staff is efficient and will eventually get to you, but you will be told to calm down if you try to flag a waiter down so just be patient and enjoy the atmosphere and know they will get to you. We waited about 10mins before our server came over but after that the service was fast. Overall is exactly what you expect out of a solid beer hall and I would say it is a must do at least once if you are in Munich. read more
Here on the last day of our two week European trip, how could we pass up the opportunity to come to the original! It is just a day or two before the end of this years Oktoberfest and the place was packed. We found a table easily though and made some new friends. I had a litre of the Oktoberfest brew and my wife had a white wine. My order of Krustenschweinebraten ( crispy roast pork with dark beer sauce and a potato dumpling) was delicious and filling. My Wife had Three Part Knödel ( one spinach, one beetroot, and one mountain cheese) with vegetables and brown butter. The cheese one reminded us of thanksgiving stuffing, white the other two tasted as you would expect. All delicious, and fueled us up for our walk amongst the streets of München. It was a lively crowd and everyone sang along with the live music, traditional German drinking songs! Prost was said many times, I hope to enjoy it again someday. read more

This was a very interesting and fun experience! I sat next to a big group of footballers celebrating a win, and it was very fun to see them chanting and hyping each other up. People come here for the experience and beer, not the food. I got 1/2 rotisserie chicken and absolutely loved it! It was moist and tender and full of flavor. However, my family got a couple other dishes and were not too impressed. I was told the beer was great and it came in huge pints. read more
Atmosphere and beer were top notch! Food was a bit on salty side, but still tasty. I had the three part knodel (a solid vegetarian option). My boyfriend had the crispy pork roast. We enjoyed the live music. Prices were very reasonable, especially for such a hot spot! read more

First beer in Munich ahead of Oktoberfest. Lived up to all the hype. I would go back in a minute. The place is packed, but the friendly staff helps out to find you seats. As busy as it is, the servers do a great job getting both your beer orders and your food orders. They serve traditional Bavarian dishes and they all are very delicious. It's amazing with the number of people they have to serve. The place is huge with multiple levels to service people. It feels like a giant lodge with a German band playing in the center to provide the fun entertainment. Although it may seem like a tourist spot, it's a must visit and well worth it! read more
I've been to several Hofbraugaus in the USA, but wanted to try out the oldest and original HB! Seat yourself. It really doesn't matter what time you come - it will be packed! Sharing tables is the norm and slow service is to be expected. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was above average and came fairly quickly once ordered! The goulash was well seasoned and the German potato salad had the perfect amount of acid. The veg soup was surprisingly delish! Pro tip - don't order the pretzel, wait for the girl to walk around with the really big ones - they're much better. Live music creates a fun atmosphere, as does the comradely at the tables. Great souvenirs at the gift shop too! Prost! read more

An absolute Munich classic!! A traditional beer hall with tons of energy, laughter, fun, and community! We walked over from the Marienplatz after being in Munich for the day, exploring the local Christmas Markets. While the space is massive, it's quite full, and you have to find seats yourself on community tables. It was tons of fun to get to know the other people at our table and there's just something special about a Beer Hall in Germany. Service was surprisingly organized and quick, considering the traffic and relative chaos of the interior! The beer is really the best! Traditional and seasonal choices available in 0.5 or 1.0 liter. I had the Winter Seasonal which had a nice spice to it! The food was a bit underwhelming, but paired well with the beer! Overall, I'd definitely make sure you come check out the atmosphere for a beer if you're in town! read more
A huge beer hall with 3 floors! Don't get intimidated on how vast the hall is- plenty of seating but don't expect them to sit you down. You find an empty spot that fits your party and someone will be with you to take your group order. I definitely enjoyed the Hofbräu Original as it was refreshing! I'm not a drinker so the 1L was good enough for me! They also have a 0.50 L if you just wanna try it. Food- can't go wrong with the pretzels but I suggest getting them from the ladies who mill about the hall as they are massive than what's on the menu. The pork knuckle was amazing & so was the schnitzel. Keep in mind that the menu is in German so you may need your Google translate app (which is what I did) so I can order properly, read more
