I approached Hoffman at the beginning of March to install a new handrail, newel post, balusters, and fix a broken step for the primary staircase of my home. Once the work was done, we would have them then install a runner. We were excited to use Hoffman from all of the amazing examples that they shared on social media of staircases and homes they 'claim' to have renovated. The sales team in the store was as you would expect for a boutique mom & pop shop... an air of pretentiousness in a relatively humble environment. After insulting my wife & I by assuming we were looking for a budget-friendly deal, we ultimately were left to search the store and pick out the runner we wanted. After deciding, we scheduled measurements for the following week. As we attempted to leave, the salesperson insisted on following us out into the parking lot to put samples in our trunk, however, I believe this was a further attempt to 'size-up' our budget based on what we drove. Anthony, the third generation in this family-run business, showed up at my house the following week. He was here for approximately 20 minutes, took the measurements, and advised he would be in touch in about a week once all of the materials were in. He advised everything needed to be special ordered. The job was quoted at $4,000. I accepted. One, two, three, then four weeks go by without hearing from Anthony. As it had been a month, I called the store to find out what the cause of the delay was. They advised that the materials were expected to be in at the end of the week, and apologized for the delay. I was completely understandable, as I was just happy to have Hoffman come do the work in the first place. Afterall, the pictures they continued to share on social media looked amazing. I wanted the same in my house. Three more weeks go by, then I get a call from Anthony saying they are ready to start the work. I was thrilled. Anthony's 'team' showed up on a Friday towards the end of April. They demo'd my existing handrail and newel post. As they went to replace the broken step, they realized that Anthony ordered the wrong thickness, and the correct one would have to be special ordered (again). Given that 8 weeks had already passed, and frustrated, I called Anthony and advised rather than ordering 1-custom step, please replace all steps with standard thickness ones. He apologized and advised that the total cost of the project would now be $6,000. This was still well within my budget so we agreed, and the team would be back the following week to continue the work. The team shows up the following week, rips out all of the stairs, and replaces with 'new' ones, and 'finishes' the handrail/newel post. After two coats of stain, Anthony texted me and advised the project was done and we were ready for Carpet. Here's where the story really gets interesting: --Nothing installed was special ordered and is readily available at Home Depot. --Each of the 11 brand-new stairs they installed had scratch marks, pencil marks, or dents. --The newel post had approximately 50 blemishes from improper sanding/staining. --The balusters were installed upside-down! Then corrected via using glue and wood filler to partially cover all of the knicks and holes they just put in the brand-new materials. ---They did not stain the visible undersides of the new steps --They did not stain the backside of the handrail against the wall --Multiple sharp/jagged edges were left exposed --They did not clean-up their worksite, leaving half eaten fruit in my garage. --They used two different types of balusters after they 'fixed' the original mistake. --They did not come with their own sufficient materials and used my personal table saw/miter saw. --I come to discover that the 'team' Anthony sent to my house had not worked for him before, and were effectively unskilled day laborers. --At no point did Anthony ever come to check on the work. Clearly, Anthony/Hoffman contracted this project out, in an attempt to make quick cash off an unsuspecting customer. I called Anthony and told him to come look at the work. Originally, he was very combative and continually corrected the language I was using to describe the work his team did to my house (if the work looks like ..... it probably is). He tried to persuade me to let him come back and try again, but as he already dragged this process on for 2+ months and had his team at my house 5+ times, I was not interested. Given my dissatisfaction and the clear evidence that he had tried to scam me, he fully refunded my deposit and did not charge me for the work. I didn't want to write/post a review but given that Hoffman is still actively advertising their stair 'services', I felt it necessary to share my experience. p.s. the pictures hardly do justice to how poor the work really is. read more

This is our second experience with Hoffman Floor and Home which should tell you how satisfied we are with their work. They are fantastic from beginning to end. Tony, Anthony and Ed are very knowledgeable about the products and give realistic picture of how the project will go. They installed our Villa Borehsie flooring on the kitchen/living room level of home during a kitchen remodel. My wife loved for flooring so much that we brought the team back to put the same flooring down in our ground level family room. The install team was great. They worked clean and got the job done in the time that Anthony estimated it would take. Need to Not Call Your Customers Names I came in with all the info needed to order carpet and asked the man who helped me to come measure, so we could install. He could only come in the mornings M-F, 9-11, when I am n/a. Then, his colleague, a young man obviously one of the family that owns the store said it was his job to come measure. How about this weekend, I asked? No- my sister's getting married he said. I understood, laughed, and looking at the following week, he offered July 3 & 4, but I was n/a over the holiday. How about next weekend? He offered the morning again, and I reminded him I had just said no mornings are available. Come after the store closes, I asked? "I'll have to give you a call," he replied. Oh, I said, thinking that meant he was tentative and might not be able to make it. I asked again twice, politely, for his time/availability and he kept insisting "I'll give you a call when the store closes." I wasnt gonna wait around on a Saturday- we all know how those arrangements go. Do you want the sale? I finally said. The other 9-11 only guy immediately buts in and says why are you getting all combative and angry? I apologized, and said that was not my intent, and I did not believe I was either, but sorry if I came across so. Then- why cant we just commit to a day/time? Turns out, the young guy meant: yes he could come, but he would need a window of time in case the store was still full of people on Saturday afternoon. But by now, I was truly mad at being called names, so I left and I'm using their competition for the job. It was $10k worth of carpet. So Hoffman: Don't call your customers names when you can't communicate clearly, and then expect their business. I tried for 5 minutes! patiently! to get a commitment, and you were too busy not being available, and being vague. All that does is plant doubt in the customer's mind about the businesses' credibility. And their manners. read more

Disappointed and dissatisfied with customer service and workmanship. Flooring was installed incorrectly and the owner would not stand by his product. After several failed attempts to have the incorrect installation resolved, we were told we're on our own. Workers also broke a new hose while on site. Do your floors elsewhere. read more

From start to finish this was the only piece of my basement renovation that was smooth. I worked with Ed in the store to pick out coretec lvp and he was so helpful with recommendations and suggestions. Tony came to measure and he was exact with his order and made some suggestions that I had not even thought of. The team installing it was amazing. They did not leave until they were finished, which was 6pm on a Saturday. I was really impressed. Also, Anthony stopped by on a Saturday to check in which I thought was a nice touch. I had to push back my install twice because my contractors were behind with other parts of my project and Tony bent over backwards to fit me in. What a great experience. These guys did a terrific job. I've been living in River Vale for 20 years and I have to say this was one of best experiences we have had with home improvements. Long story short: if you can secure these guys for your flooring job, don't waste your time looking for a better team to handle your flooring project. Now, the devil is in the details, and these guys know everything about making it perfect. However, in my experience, this is not what distinguishes Anthony and Tony from all other installers - it is how they react to the unforeseen circumstances - and let's admit it, no matter how carefully we plan everything, the unforeseen circumstances always find ways to arise. With that in mind, it was an absolute pleasure to see a great deal of character and professionalism that was demonstrated during my project. I have only accounted friendliness and understanding.... Even during the most challenging circumstances (not a fault of the contractor) that, unfortunately, had to be rectified by Hoffman Floor and Home, they have exhibited the most admirable ethics towards me (the client). At the end, everything was completed with 100% perfection and is a super friendly way. It is an absolute pleasure to recommend Hoffman Floor team to anyone who is fortunate enough to come across them. This will be the easiest decision you have to make on your next re-modeling project. Context: we have only contracted Hoffman Floors to install underlining and laminate flooring in the 2000 sq ft condominium; therefore, I cannot comment on quality of any other jobs outside of that scope. This is an incredible company with outstanding professionals who care about their customers and the quality of the work they perform! I live in California and because of circumstances, I needed help having new flooring installed in a home in New Jersey while the owner was away on one day. Additionally, the flooring needed to be measured, ordered and installed all within a very quick 2 week time frame. They went to the home and helped select a material to use for the job. Communication back and forth with the company (Anthony & Tony) from California to New Jersey was very easy, they kept me up to date on scheduling and notified me when to expect the materials would arrive as well as the date we could schedule the installation.Fitting all within our necessary time frame. As does sometimes happen when you have to rely on suppliers, one of the items ordered didn't arrive on installation day. Anthony or Tony (I'm not certain who) got on the phone and called other providers and were able to track down the items needed so that the install could go on as planned and be completed in one day. While the homeowner was away, her new floors were installed and she came home to a completed project. The job was done expertly, in one day as promised and at a reasonable price.Their installers were left alone in the home during the majority of the job as we didn't have an alternative and they conducted themselves commendably. Most importantly they kept their word and did everything they could to make this project go smoothly and not be an additional concern for us. This was the second time I got my hardwood floor refinished by Hoffman Floors in Westwood. Once again an excellent job of sanding, staining, and putting a water based satin polyurethane finish on my hardwood floor. The floor looks great! Got my floors refinished 14 years ago and was considering putting a new laminate floor down which would have been double the price. Anthony suggested we reconsider and could save money refinishing the hardwood floor we already had down. How many businesses are willing to save the customer money and suggesting a less costly alternative. Glad we did as the floors look brand new! Hoffman is a family owned store and Anthony and his father are good people. Allowed us to take floor samples home, allowed us to test a variety of stains etc etc. They wanted us to feel comfortable and make sure we got what we wanted. Great experience and service. We had wall-to-wall carpet removed in our living room and hardwood floor that had been hidden under the carpet was sanded and re-finished. They also refinished a small hall, den, and dining room to match the living room. the kitchen floor was a different type of wood than the rest of the first floor, but they matched the stain colors of all of the floors perfectly. They installed new hardwood on the second floor hall and matched that hall color to the stairs and all of the floors on the first floor. Michelle (in the Park Ridge store) was helpful as we needed help with decisions. Anthony and Tony responded very quickly when we had questions. Anthony made good suggestions as we needed. They guys were very neat and careful with our walls and baseboards. they were also patient as we tried different stain color dilutions to get the exact color that we were looking for. They covered all items in our closets with tarps to decrease dust while they worked. Anthony kept us posted as we went thru the re-finishing process so we knew when we should book Chase Movers to move our furniture back in place. We are so glad that we used this local family-owned and operated flooring store to install and re-finish our floors. We feel that we got individual attention and expert floor finishing.
