Just pick a mansion and find a spot. We got lucky and found a spot in the shade and didn't have to walk too far. We brought a stroller just in case. The grounds were immaculate as they always are. Areas were closed off to the public but there was a large section that had been set up for food and beverage with ample seating under a tent as well as tables with umbrellas on a lawn so kids could run around and with a large screen to watch the matches. I've always loved this event at the country club because you can be so close to the action. Staff were super friendly and personable and really appreciate everyone's hard work to keep this open to the public so that tennis can be accessible for all.

Turns out, this is one of them more progressive country clubs allowing people like me in and I was not asked to leave on account of the schnoz. I had several dramatic oy gevalts lined up for the occasion that I have now saved for later when I really need them. Caddyshack II is one of my favourite films because it just really gets "it" and how "it" is for the rest of us when we have to pick out a shirt that does not have mustard stains on it and we go to the country club as a guest. I expected to be the Hartounian we all need me to be in these trying times, with a bit of Al Czervik thrown in for the even tougher times. I had a whole paragraph on Spaceballs I had to take out because I think Caddyshack II is a better vibe for this one. As you would expect based on the name and the general understanding that this is the fanciest part of Houston, this country club is imposing. The building is enormous. There are so many different rooms and (levels!) The "driveway" leading up to the main building is lengthy and there is the guard house to keep out the riff-raff, which did not include me for one day of my life. For all of the pomp and circumstance in arriving here (my Uber driver was whistling like the "hoooooo boy" kind-of-impressed by all the mansions nearby) I had to tip my Uber driver extra so he wouldn't think I was one of the landed gentry, I was more of a down to earth bro (simply a guest here, not a member) that should be spared from President Sanders kicking in the doors of the 1% and forcibly redistributing wealth come next January. I think my outfit from the clearance rack at Sears told actual rich people everything they needed to know about me voting for Sanders and not their chosen wine cave fundraiser candidate, who should be the lucky owner of the second door kicked down by Sanders after the Clintons' wealth has been forcibly redistributed to POC communities that Shillary had dubbed "super predators" in the 90s. If you have the opportunity to visit here as a guest, do it. It is a world apart from what we know. Muy fancy!

I was really looking forward to Houston's FIFA Fan Festival and expected to visit multiple times…read moreduring the World Cup. With Houston hosting matches, I imagined fans from around the world chanting, singing, and creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. The biggest disappointment was the lack of energy. People wore jerseys representing their teams, but there was very little cheering or interaction. Surprisingly, the festival seemed to feature more NASA exhibits than World Cup exhibits. As an engineer, I enjoy anything related to space, but it felt out of place at a FIFA Fan Festival. Note the Houston Hall was the best place to watch the matches because it was indoors with air conditioning. There were long lines throughout the venue--for entry, exhibits, and giveaways. The Bank of America bracelet booth regularly had 30+ minute waits, and I was shocked to later see those free bracelets listed on Facebook Marketplace for over $100. Food and drinks were also expensive ($8 for a Coke and $6 for bottled water), and most food trucks didn't display prices, so you had to wait in line just to ask. Similarly, prices weren't listed on the football jerseys so you had to keep going to the check counter to ask how much; pretty annoying! On the plus side, you can bring an empty clear water bottle (remove the label) and refill it at the free water stations. They also provide complimentary sunscreen, which was a thoughtful touch. I also want to recognize the staff and volunteers, who did a great job keeping things running smoothly. Many were friendly, helpful, and happy to answer questions throughout the day. If you plan to visit, arrive early, especially for popular matches, as capacity is limited. I also recommend parking at the Harrisburg Metro Garage for just $1 after validating a METRORail ticket, then taking the train two stops to the festival. It's much cheaper than parking nearby. I'm glad I went once to experience it, but I wouldn't go back and don't recommend. I'd much rather enjoy the matches at home with air conditioning and an ice-cold beer in my hand. More than anything, I wish the festival had embraced the passion and culture of the World Cup. Instead of feeling like one of the world's biggest sporting events was taking place just minutes away, it felt surprisingly dull.

Wear a hat, sweat wicking clothes, sunscreen, take an empty water bottle, and drink those electrolytes before you go... It's also very family-friendly, but I saw too many babies (like, infants) and toddlers looking miserably hot. Shout out to the volunteers. Can't believe FIFA isn't paying people for their service. They're making record profits. SMH.

I was still impressed with the quality and beauty of the setting. The parking was easy, the staff was harried but friendly. The amenities arranged for the party were beyond impressive. The food was well presented and very tasty. The environment was comfortable, even with a crowd that easily numbered in the hundreds. I didn't have a chance to play golf but from what I saw, the course is beautiful and challenging. If I was looking for a high quality event space, or an impressive corporate perk, I would put this place on my short list.

We no longer exist at the University Of Houston, our charter has been revoked, so that's why I am giving it a 3. However if you were talking about my college experience here, I would definitely give this place a 5 star. It was fun as hell living at the house, the parties were great. Every night something crazy would happen. My pledge ship was the best time of my life. I have so many great stories from here, and made a lot of friends..Too bad the new guys were dick heads and got kicked out.

You can usually get lucky on nearby street parking if you come early enough. Otherwise, ride a bike here or park in the lot across from Sparrow. It is $3 before 6pm, $5 after 6pm. The block party starts slowly, but usually picks up and gets busy when the sun goes out. They advertise it to start at 5pm, but it really doesn't start til about 6pm. For food prior to getting your drink on, you can either grab tacos from Taco's-A-Go-Go, select bar food at Natachee's during their hh until 6pm or bar bites at Sparrow during their hh until 8pm. This time, Saint Arnold had the limited edition White Noise Wit Beer, which is only served at FPSF, but they made a ton extra this year for the festival so they are serving it at different follow-up area events until it runs out. They also served their summer pilsner. I much preferred the White noise. We sampled a few of the Honest Tea's from their booth and of course most of the Deep Eddy vodka cocktails, in addition to just straight vodka over ice. Not a bad vodka, especially for the price. They had a DJ playing some tunes and even a clown performing, it was quite interesting. If you haven't been to this event yet, you should definitely go next month!
