With so many great places to eat, fitting this place in midday really helped us maximize the culinary tour de force that was our trip to Barcelona. Our waiter, Tomaso, was a delight. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and knew exactly when to come to our table and when to give us space. At the end of the meal we had a lovely conversation and he told us why Barcelona is such an international city and how easy it was to be a transplant from Italy. Almost as good as our meal was the environment. There was one other person dining there, someone my partner aptly described as an "international man of mystery." He was gregarious and clearly living his best life. Every dish, he would ask Tomaso to pick out a wine and each time he would say, "Money is no object!" or that the price did not matter. He loved everything Tomaso brought and it did not appear at thought Tomaso took advantage of this man's willingness to spend top dollar, even though the man asked it his name was, "To-mah-to." This place lives up to everything you hear about Barcelona being gastronomic paradise with more Michelin stars per capita than just about anywhere.

The menu changes seasonally, but whatever's on it when you go, you will not be disappointed. Or bored. (Especially if you request a pitcher of the house cava sangria to accompany your meal.) The service, the venue, and the unexpectedly delightful company of the other diners we met all enhanced the experience. (As did dining outdoors, where we also met some of Barcelona's cutest dogs, and their companion humans.) But we likely would have been equally wowed if we'd been forced to eat in a dark, distant corner of the restaurant. If it had any, that is. We selected the Colom menu at 55 euros per person and the drink choice of three types of wine for 20 euros. Everything was delicious and the wine kept on flowing throughout the whole meal. Each sharing plate was easy to split between 3-4 people. Toasted flat bread with tomato and extra virgin olive oil - the bread was soft yet crisp on the outside, nicely complemented by a light tomato spread and olive oil. A great start. Warm artichoke salad potatoes, Jabugo ham, cheese and poached quail egg - creamy from the potato salad with refreshing crisp salad and well-cooked artichokes. Salmon tartar with avocado, vegetables, wasabi, topiko - The salmon and vegetables both tasted super fresh. Fine chicken cannelloni, mushroom and black truffle oil - I loved this dish. The chicken and mushroom was like a paste stuffed in this delicate pasta. So good. I never had a dish like this before. Roast beef flatbread - another winner, the flavor of the roast beef was super prominent. Hot and cold foie gras duo - Super delicate and full of flavor. A great dish to eat with some toasted crisp bread. Scallops, artichokes, Iberian pork and truffle oil - scallops were perfectly cooked. Seared on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. Each plate had three which was plenty per person. Grilled steak fillet with seasoned vegetables - steak was cooked perfectly. Soft to cut with a butter knife. One cool surprise right off the bat was that our table was in the back room, and to get there, we actually walked through the kitchen. It kind of felt like we were being let in on a secret.
