Service is great as usual but the charge for using a credit card still gets me, Anyhoo I filled my plate with ribs, greens, cabbage, green beans & slaw. Green beans were unreal good. Greens too bitter & cabbage mushy but seasoned well. But let me tell yall about these OLD AS KITCHEN RIBS. You know meat is old when the underside is hard, & these ribs were hard as bricks. Me and my out of town family went there on the evening of July 3rd. I don't know if the restaurant was having a bad day but the food on the buffet was absolutely horrendous. The macaroni and cheese was so charred on top you can pull the whole top layer back and had to if you wanted to get any. The pork barbecue was minced and clearly very dry. The best thing about our meal was the sweet tea. Out of the six of us, none of us went back for seconds it was that bad. Later that night I felt the remnants of eating there. I don't know what to say. I don't like saying unkind things about small, locally run establishments, but my disappointment is impossible to tamp down. The atmosphere: was super odd. It was dark, sort of damp and though it looked like someone had attempted to make it "farmhouse chic" on one wall (which did look good!), the rest of the place was just kind of dank. You walk in and sort of get funneled into a Buffett line, which is par for the course out here. You put on a plastic glove and set about going through the buffet. The rice looked promising, as I could see that it had been sprinkled with a bit of greens and some butter (the way my grandmother served it) and put it on my plate with the expectation of adding barbecue hash to the top of it. Now here's where things get dicey for me: the hash was not the hash I'm familiar with. And yes, I know from my coastal homeland all the way to the swamps of Georgia, everyone's got their own hash recipe. But this wasn't "hash." It was more like...fluff. I'm not joking when I say that it was like whipped pork. It had the color and smell of hash, but the consistency was like marshmallow fluff. I already had a big spoonful of it and didn't want to be rude, so I plopped some into the rice, hoping it would taste better than it looked. My husband got some fried chicken, I grabbed a few ribs and we both added some "pulled pork" to our plates. Only, it's not pulled. It's chopped. It's literally almost ground down like ground beef. It was really crumbly. By the time I poured my drink in this weird teeny, tiny hallway with a cooler for ice, my "hash fluff" was cold and bland. The rice that looked so enticing had no salt, butter or any other kind of flavor to it. My husband's fried chicken was like sawdust and the sauce on the table for the diced up barbecue was meh, which surprised me because there are these grumpy signs everywhere saying how they don't give out extra sauce anymore. LOL. Out of everything on our plates, my ribs were the only things that were truly edible. Edible, but not good. Unlike everything else that had bland or no flavor, the ribs had too much flavor. They were REALLY SALTY and tasted like there was something like soy or teriyaki sauce on them? I didn't hate them. Like I said, out of everything, those were the best. The banana pudding, which shouldn't be too hard to make, tasted like fake banana flavoring. I've never NOT finished a dessert in my life...until that day. Look, maybe this was just an off day or something. There are too many other reviews that say it's good. If I ever dare to try it again and it's improved, I'll be sure to be as detailed in praising them as I am grousing presently. read more

Decent enough food although there are a few items I would avoid. The mac-n-cheese was inedible. Despite the nicely browned crust, the noodles beneath were so soft and soggy they barely retained their shape. And the cheese was flavorless and curdled in mushy globs. The biggest portion was the rice and "hash." Not sure what dish "has" is since it has so many definitions from region-to-regions, but this dish was a puree of some sort and the primary flavor is BBQ sauce. It didn't bowl me over but there wasn't anything wrong with the way it was cooked that I could tell. The fried chicken was crisp, not greasy, and the meat was tender and moist. No seasoning in the crust, and it was similar to what you get at grocery stores or gas stations. The hush puppies were similarly decent without being spectacular. The slaw was nicely done and was sweet with a mayo base. My wife had the baked chicken which was also decent and she also liked the slaw, green beans, and sweet potatoes. Service is from a hot/cold bar and the staff fills your Styrofoam container with your choices. Big signs warn you not to touch anything and of course they do not offer any indoor or outdoor dining. Nor do they let the customers use the restrooms. There is a drive-thru window also. Very little information about the food, combos, or pricing as this is obviously a business with mostly local patrons who know these things. The employees answered questions if asked, but didn't provide any helpful guidance unless directly questioned. There were three staff serving and since the food is already cooked and in warming trays, service was fast. read more

Even though the last review was harsh we decided to give it a try... Glad we did!! Good food, good selection!!! Love their mustard bbq sauce!! We were traveling through on the holidays and needed to stop somewhere quick but I detest fast food. I found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try with my 3 teenage hungry kids. Neat place and great food. My brother and I both liked it. Met the new owner Tom . He gave us a tour. Kitchen was clean the slow cooker in the back was interesting. We had the ribs and mac and cheese with collard greens( liked them even though I have never had them. Pulled pork was great got to have the sauce. The chicken was not greasy and good. This joint serves some the finest pit cooked BBQ that can be found! My favorite meats are the ribs and chicken leg quarters, that's not to say the pulled pork BBQ is not also great. The sides are all quite good, my faves on the sides are the slaw, potato salad and Mac & cheese. Oh and if the quality of the food wasn't enough did I mention that it's an all you care to eat buffet.
