The one we decided to check out was Poca Terra Winery. Once you leave Paducah proper heading out to the rural areas the roads very much start to narrow and winding, our ride to Poca Terra being no exception. Once we found the winery the countryside was well worth the trip. Poca Terra is a small winery on what may have been a farm at one time. There is a small vineyard next to the main house. In the back of the property, there is a barn-type structure that the owners are converting into a tasting building. For the present, the couple who own the winery does their tastings on an outside porch at the main house. We were the only ones there so we were able to spend time with the owners tasting and discussing their wines and how they came about becoming winemakers. They inherited some antique but functional winemaking equipment passed on down the years from his grandfather who used to make his wines. The equipment originally came from Italy and supplements their more modern equipment. I have to say, even though they may be a smaller winery, their estate bottle dry wines were excellent. My wife and I bought all five of their dry wines. One was a rather unique rose aged in oak. They also bottle sweet and semi-sweet wines. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with John and Karen, the owners, and their wines. We will come back and I would encourage you if you are in the area to pay a visit.

(This was helpful as we could do separate checks). They offer wine and cocktails. However, on my visit, their soda gun was broken, so my friends who did not drink alcohol had limited drink options. Unfortunately, their kitchen got slammed and struggled to keep up. My group's food came out very spread out. Salads were decent. My one friend enjoyed their tacos. However, my last friend to order food ordered a grilled cheese, and it came out cold. I would come for the wine again, but would only order food if it didn't appear crowded. He came on time to pick up us. We weren't quite ready, but he waited patiently. There were 7 of us. We rode in the immaculate white Explorer. We were a little cozy, but it was fine. Fred was very accommodating, flexible, friendly, helpful and kind. One of my grandsons is handicapped and he was very helpful with him. Let him ride in the front with him and helped with his walker. We were allowed to bring snacks and water which we indulged in between stops. He dropped us off at the door and we did not see him again until it was time to move on to the next stop. One of the wineries was closed for a wedding so he substituted another winery on the opposite side of the tour we were doing, but were interested in because the winery has a store in our town that we go to often. We had a great time! If you are in doubt, go for it. We met his wife, Heidi, at one of the stops and I am sure she would be just as good.

Their wine flights are organized in a cute carrier, and it was only $10 for a flight. You do have to check your empty flight back in to get your deposit back. It was not the best wine on the trail, in my opinion. There was some cute wine merchandise, similar to what is sold at other wineries. The women's bathroom was spacious and clean. I would return, especially on a warm day when the patio is open.

We were hoping to have wine flights outside on the patio, but they only do flights inside at the walk-up bar. Instead, we had a couple of small tastes and picked a bottle of wine to bring out back on the patio. There was a live band performing which was nice. Lots of seating and an energetic vibe. We enjoyed our wine as well. You have the option to either keep your wine glasses as a souvenir or return them to get your deposit back.
