Located in the parking lot immediately along Union Park Ave, you'll probably notice the people before you see the shack. It's a popular spot and I've never been there without seeing people around, but then again, I usually go once the heat of the day is off and I'm ready to cool down for the night. It's a shaved ice hut, and not a snow-cone station. This is the Hawaiian type with delicately shaved ice and with a real island flavor. They have a few dozen flavors to choose from in a variety of sizes (short board, long board, etc.) and I think the long board (medium, $5) is a good starting point. If you're a newb, they have pre-suggested flavors to guide you. I try to stick with the tropical flavors--mango, pineapple, coconut, passion fruit, guava--and then mix and match three per order. You can top with ice cream or sweetened condensed milk for an upcharge, or just leave it be. We usually get it to go, and then find a nearby park. It's a fun tradition and we've explored most of the parks in the area but it's nice to actually walk a little, or find a table. You can, however, opt to stick around at the umbrella-shaded tables there in the parking lot. We just noticed the gift card "membership club" type deals that let you go once a day for a month, or you can wait until after the 15th and buy it at a discount. If you're a summer fanatic, get the season pass and go every single day all summer (except Sundays; they're closed) and then come down off that sugar high when fall arrives. Give them your phone number and get points, then earn discounts, then come back, then eat more, then keep coming back.
