Lots of interesting gifts in this shop and each time I shopped here we had a pleasant experience. The last time I came, during Easter, my son was treated with helping hide Easter eggs and was given a complimentary treat. The staff made a lovely gift basket out of the items I picked out which made for a nice touch to our gifts. read more

I placed an online order with Holbrook and I must have caught them at a bad time. I believe the company was in the middle of a move. The item did not ship in a 24 hour time frame (as Company says is typical). While the above was understandable, I was assured that the package would ship the next day. Let me be clear: this shop has a wide selection of quality food and other items. It's over-priced of course, but not more than you'd expect for this type of place. However, the smile that the abundant and appealing product displays put on my face when I walked in was quickly wiped off by the "service". I was traveling upstate a little while ago and got a recommendation to go there from a local friend. The lady working there, who I understand wasn't the owner, was so blunt, rude and even argumentative. I wasn't sure really what I wanted anyway so I left and came back a few days later to give it a second chance on my way back to the city. This time I did speak to the owner - I asked and it was her - and now I see...birds of a feather flock together! She was worse than the lady I met before. So arrogant and really just a very unpleasant and seemingly angry person. I have never been treated that way in a store since I was a scruffy teenager going into a candy store and the employees thought I was there to steal stuff. I like these kinds of stores and towns because of the unique things you can find, and I like the return to buying local. But, there are plenty of nasty people in the world, and all of them are local somewhere. So, these are just rude local people from Briarcliff. Being from the city, I love it how some people upstate call us rude. At least I know how to smile naturally, which is more than I can say for these people. So, if you ever find yourself going through the woods of upper Westchester and chance upon Holbrook Cottage, you might think of yourself as in a fairy tale, like Little Red Riding Hood going to grandma's cottage in the woods. I have been shopping at Holbrook Cottage for well over a decade, and I couldn't disagree more with the other reviewer. Perhaps he met with someone on a bad day, but I would hate to think that one unfortunate experience might keep people from such a wonderful shop. I frequent Holbrook for wedding gifts, hostess gifts, holiday gifts, baby gifts, and just gifts for myself. Their gift and food selection is excellent, and they always seem to have the perfect something for any occasion. In addition, I have received many hostess gifts from there, and everything is beautifully packaged and delicious. A lot of the patrons are repeat customers whom Sue (the owner) knows by name, which definitely tells you a lot about the level of service. I encourage you to form your own opinion! read more
