This is the cutest and coziest B&B! My boyfriend and I spent the weekend in the Wandering Moose (such a funny name for a bedroom), and greatly appreciated John and Jeanette's hospitality. From the moment you walk in, there's a cozy living room with games, books, and drinks (Bailey's Irish Cream, Port, and Sherry, I believe). You're also greeted by Jeanette's freshly baked goods of the day in the kitchen. I loved that the B&B was close to other Bethel restaurants and attractions. During our few days in town, we ate at 3/4 places that John recommended and even attended the Bethel Harvestfest and Chowdah Cookoff. Even though we had a car, we enjoyed walking, so we strolled past Gould Academy which had some nice views. I'd definitely recommend this B&B if you want a quiet and cozy place to stay for a few nights. It's really raised the bar for future B&Bs! Hopefully we'll be back one day. read more

John and Jeannette have created an adorable B and B. It's super cute filled with stuffed animals and Christmas ornaments, slightly kitschy but it worked. John clearly loves his role and spends quite a bit of time with the orientation and welcoming. The bottom line, John wants you to be happy and comfortable and goes the extra mile explaining every detail of the inn from food to rest. He weaves in personal sharing related to how he chose his coffee to personal travels. Our room was comfy and cute. The bedding was comfy and cozy. Our bathroom was enormous. We are snowboarders so only enjoyed our room from 6 PM - 6 AM thus did not experience a lot of what the inn offers. There are DVDs, games, a free cordial bar, 24/.7 snacks and beverages. Breakfast was served early for our needs. It was a very light meal so those seeking something more hearty may want to plan ahead with John. John asked about dietary needs and respected my no meat diet. I had a scrambled egg and two veggie sausage patties. My man had a small pastry filled with an egg and a piece of ham. Each had a berry and half clementine. My man loved his coffee! The price with tax was 164 and change. It's located convenient to Sunday River and a walk to Brian's and a few other great eating spots. read more

Holidae House is well located on Main Street and the hosts provide a high level of hospitality. We were in room #5 at the front of the house. Had some initial concerns about having a noisy room, but it was very quiet. The bed was a bit firm for our tastes, but that a good quality mattress. The breakfast was fine, although not the gourmet meal we were expecting. It was french toast with baked apples on top with a sausage patty. There were several evening snacks including cherry brownies that were delicious. read more

The hosts John and Jeanette make this bed and breakfast shine with warmth and welcome! They were very accommodating and went out of their way to make sure I was happy, and they employed prudent COVID precautions, so I felt safe. Jeanette's breakfasts and baked treats were delicious fuel for a day of skiing. I even went home with the recipe for her yummy Dutch baby pancake. The rooms and common areas are adorable, with everything you need, and reflect the hosts' attention to detail. I appreciated the plush towels and a multi-port USB charger within arms reach of the comfy bed. The inn is a small, intimate space, but a welcome change from bland corporate hotels. I enjoyed chatting with John and Jeanette who are always on hand if you need anything. The in-town location makes it easy to walk to restaurants -- and during COVID, having a market with deli items and wine right across the street made it easy to picnic in my room. Holidae House is now my "go to" for Sunday River ski trips. read more

The moment you enter, John and Jeanette make you feel right at home, cheerfully welcoming you, and they make sure you have absolutely everything you could want or need. They had fresh, delicious cake and cookies waiting, and everything was so clean and cozy. The furniture is authentic antiques, with modern TV and movies available, and the rooms are perfectly decorated and extremely tidy and well maintained. It was about 15 min away (driving) from Sunday River Ski Resort and walking distance to lots of different restaurants in the area. Our family has stayed at this lovely B&B several times, all in the winter. It is perfectly located for trips to Sunday River, which is minutes away. But this place has so much more going for it in addition to the location. John and Janette are so warm and welcoming! They take great care of the house, making every room have its own character. Janette is an amazing cook, so breakfast is something even my picky kids look forward to! They are flexible, warm, and - of course - great to talk with. We can't wait to be back!! read more

Wonderful Hosts. Perfect For Their Avocation Two Tennessee transports who've recently taken over this established B & B, have jumped In with both feet. John and Jeannette, the new owners, are re-doing the entire place, top to bottom. We were there as the painters were finishing up the outside, in bright and cheery new colors, with a new awning to match. The rooms were very nice, the locale wonderful, but our stay was made by J & J. John could not be more friendly and cheerful, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better or more inventive cook and baker than Jeannette. Everything we tasted, every meal we enjoyed, was a treat. These are two folks who decided to pursue their passion, and though up to their elbows in remodeling, they remain thrilled with the life decision they made to run their own B & B. Ever smiling and cheerful, my hope is that they continue to enjoy their choice and that their business will be the success that they so richly deserve. I have spent many nights at this delightful B&B and have never been disappointed. With real Victorian charm, gracious Inn Keepers and memorable Breakfasts, it cannot be beat! Let me preface this by saying I'm a young(23) professional and live in Boston, a bed and breakfast is typically never on my radar. I however was at Sunday River skiing with my girlfriend for the weekend, and this was the only place with open rooms. It was an absolutely awesome experience! I was hesitant at first, feeling like it wouldn't be as private, or nice as I'm used to, but this is not the case. Lawrence keeps the place beautiful, and the decor is truly unique. Unique being an understatement, but in the right way. We were greeted with homemade chocolate chip cookies, a glass of wine, and a warm English accent. Lawrence then showed us around and to our room, first asking what time we would be up for breakfast. We spent the night out, and came back around 2am without any issues and no one complaining we were loud. We made our breakfast appointment(though just barely) again with Lawrence waiting patiently. I had eggs over easy(from his own hens out back), bacon, and toast with homemade jam, and homemade granola. We spoke with Lawrence over breakfast, he simply put, wants to make people happy, truly happy. About a week later, I had a hand written postcard from Lawrence thanking me for staying with them. This man is pleased to serve, and make people comfortable. I'm truly confident any top hotel would benefit tremendously in a service and hospitality lesson from Lawrence. Next time your in the area stay here, I promise you will not regret it. ...just remind Lawrence the Queen wouldn't be happy seeing him drinking coffee, and not something with a little string attached. read more

I can't say enough good things about the Holidae House. We were greeted (by name!) by John upon our arrival and he immediately gave us a tour of the house, offered us homemade cake and coffee, and then helped us carry our bags to our room. He told us from the beginning to make ourselves at home and to call him anytime day or night if there's a problem. I've never felt so comfortable or welcomed at a hotel/B&B right from the beginning. Everything in both the guest rooms and the common areas (dining room, living room, etc) is immaculately clean and the furniture and decor has old world charm and character. We stayed in the Birch room, which is one of the smaller rooms, and it was perfect for what we needed. The only problem we had was that the room was a little cold even with the heat on, and when we told John, he immediately brought an electric heater up to the room. Amazing hospitality. Each morning of our three night stay, we headed down to the dining area for a delicious breakfast homemade by John's wife Jeanette. Some of the selections included berry pancakes and apple French toast, both of which were cooked to perfection. They grind coffee beans fresh every morning and always make sure that your cup is full. We were sad to check out on our last day and we look forward to returning next year. Whether you're visiting the area for a ski trip or any other reason, don't look any further for a place to stay. read more

Several things: - In the parlance of my generation, Laurence KILLS it making breakfast. Fresh eggs from a neighbor's chickens expertly prepped as you like them (scrambled, fried, poached, soft boiled, etc.), his wife Marcia's incredible baked goods (everything was great, especially the scones... cranberry orange and apricot ginger), homemade berry jams, masterfully executed French toast and pancakes, crispy bacon... you can't go wrong with breakfast here. Classics done to perfection. Even the oatmeal is really good... I suspect cream was involved, but I was on vacation and didn't much care. :) The breakfasts here will set you up for a day of skiing, whether you go downhill or xcountry. - Clean. Everything is clean. It's an older building, and the decor has a definite Victorian inflection. I thought I'd be overwhelmed by patterns and things, but I'm happy to say I wasn't. The bed was firm but comfortable, and the place is heated by radiators, which is FANTASTIC in the winter. (Radiant heat isn't as drying as forced air.) Also, I loved that there were enough blankets and bedding so we could turn the heat way down at night. Cold room + pile-o-blankets = best sleep ever. - Our bedroom had 2 deadbolts. I felt safe. - Laurence is very personable. It is his job, after all, but he does it so well. (Unfortunately, his wife was under the weather for the duration of our stay, so we only got to meet him.) I get the feeling that if you don't get along with him, you're the one with the problem. Along with just generally being a wonderful host, we had 2 small issues at different times during our stay, brought them to his attention, and they were resolved quickly. - There's a well-chosen selection of after dinner drinks. If I recall, there was a scotch, bourbon, brandy, port, and Bailey's. We didn't drink much, but having that there was very nice. Along with the booze, a full electric kettle and an array of teas are available at all times. After a particularly hard day of xcountry that left me very chilly, a spiked tea with honey was perfect. This is a great place to stay. Just understand that you're not walking into Your Favorite Chain Hotel, and here, that's a good thing. read more

This place was GREAT! John and Jeanette welcomed us and our daughter SO warmly. My husband hadn't ever been to a B&B before, so this was a special treat for him. He thought it was absolutely amazing- and he's not wrong! The owners are super nice, the premises are gorgeous and convenient to every part of Bethel, and the breakfast was delicious (and the coffee.. YUM!). The owners even took special time to chat with my gregarious 3 year old about her favorite thing in the world- Star Wars. She even wanted photos of them. We were traveling in Maine as leaf peepers. Searched for a B and B in The White Mountains of New Hampshire. Since it is a very busy time most places were full, so I expanded my radius and found this delightful Inn. The house is filled with antiques ; very quaint and New England. The hosts,Laurence and Marcia are both very warm and helpful. Each morning we were awakened by the smell of fresh coffee; the best of our entire trip. Since Laurence, our humorous host comes from England, there is a varied assortment of teas available all day. Breakfast was delicious! Fresh pressed apple juice,assorted fruits,cereals and yogurts. That was just the beginning. As we looked at the menu of hot options, we enjoyed homemade scones. The hot option options included fresh local eggs,any style, bacon,turkey bacon and sausage, and French toast made from HOMEADE CINAMMON BREAD with real maple syrup. My husband proclaimed this the best he had ever eaten. I agree. To summarize a wonderful stay with all of our needs and desires fully met. read more
