    Chicken Salad Club
    Dan M.

This was a standard NJ diner. There were a number of booths and tables to sit at. The menu had lots of choices as well, again, traditional NJ diner choices. The service was friendly while the food came out quickly. I had a chicken salad club ($9.75). It came with coleslaw that was very watery, not great. There was also a side of fries that were pleasant. The chicken salad was decent at best. It did come with bacon which added some flavor to the bland chicken salad. The chicken salad was missing seasoning unfortunately. I also tried the tuna melt and the tuna was missing seasoning too. Will I go back? Diner rules so yes.

Atmosphere: The Toms River Diner sticks out on the main road. The exterior of the Toms River Diner is cobblestone. The interior has been redone and is modern. Coffee: The coffee at the Toms River Diner was brewed hot and fresh and the waitress kept it refilled. Food: The Toms River Diner menu has everything a diner typically has. There are all the breakfast favorites including omelets, waffles, and pancakes. There was page of lunch specials on the Toms River Diner menu. I was hoping to find a special that spoke to me but decided to order the pork chops. I decided to upgrade my salad to a side Greek Salad and I'm glad I did. The small Greek salad had everything including anchovies. Sometimes I can't even find a dinner size greek salad with anchovies. The pork chops themselves were presented well, but they were dry. I was kind of bummed and hoping for better pork chops. The mashed potatoes and corn were bland and nothing to write home about. Service: The waitress at the Toms River Diner was friendly and our food came out fast. I have no complaints. Overall Thoughts/Summary:  I liked the Toms River Diner and it was a fun stop on the New Jersey Shore.

The Toms River Diner has now been renovated and is under new ownership, after being closed for a couple years. The Toms River Diner is where I grew up visiting as a kid and teenager for many years. I have witnessed its many incarnations. It now more or less has the same general format as before, but there are new furnishings and decor. The menu has also been reinvigorated. I thought that the soup, the entree, and the veggie side were all very good. The owner or the manager greeted me coming and going and seemed to care that I enjoyed my meal. You can come as a single guy and just sit at the counter, or you can come with family and friends. The waitstaff seems to be all experienced from other locations and well trained. They are not open 24 hours anymore, as they had been in the past. Definitely check the hours if you're going late. However, now that I'm no longer a teenager, that doesn't matter to me!

Haven't been here in years. I know they recently have new ownership and it's been renovated as well. I was really impressed with my burger. The fries on the other hand I was not a big fan of , but that didn't change my mind about the 5/5 review. They've definitely upgraded here and it's pretty big Menu too. There's so many diners along Route 37 and this spot is probably my favorite restaurant in the area

Best food ever!!! We have tried a couple of restaurants in the area. My husband is a foodie from Italy and he loves the food here too. Super friendly staff. With two kids this is a gem.

And, no I am not awarding four stars for the service approach towards diners ... she did refill my coffee mug once and then surprisingly just took the creamers away without asking (I drink my coffee black but she didn't know that.). Clearly she has favorites because the guy in the booth next to me got the lovey-dovey "hon" treatment. The Sand Castle has a feeling of having been worn down by the waves through the years type of place because many of the booth chairs and counter chairs exhibit wear and even more than a few tears. On a cold November Saturday morning I could feel the chill as I sat in my booth sipping my coffee (And, I wasn't anywhere close to the front door.). So onto the four stars ... but don't say I didn't warn you about service and ambiance. Well, it feels like a shore diner and I like that feel but yea worn out a bit. Quite awhile ago stopped by for dinner and the food was really good with lots of tempting options. I always judge diners by their soup and the soup was top notch! Our meals were enjoyable at a reasonable price. And, then I just forgot to review the diner. But decided to return for breakfast today after a long Friday night. Coffee arrived promptly and was really decent coffee but the amazing part of my breakfast was how quickly the really wall prepared omelette was served. It was like in the blink of any eye and for many a promptly delivered breakfast meal is a real plus (I appreciated it!!!!). Although the waitress really didn't want to be bothered with me the rather short diner breakfast menu had the classics and that quickly prepared omelette was a tasty WESTERN. The homefries were really good ... actually they were great even without onions in them (Waitress never asked if I'd like onions and rushed away so I didn't ask but these potatoes didn't need onions.). Toast was toast and the jam/jelly selection was universally grape jelly with one orange marmalade. A very good breakfast and I wasn't here to make friends just to warm up ooops ok, so I didn't warm up but the coffee helped, and to do some work. Still worth the food if you're in the neighborhood!

I was too tired to go in & eat but I made myself pull into bc I was too hungry for another bowl of cereal for dinner. I didn't realize until I was brought my order that it was closing time but when I asked for my dinner to be boxed so I could eat it at home so they could close up, they wouldn't have it, they told me not to worry about the time, but to please sit and enjoy my meal. I'll be honest..this southern girl didn't expect this type of hospitality in NJ but I was pleasantly surprised & gracious for it. From that meal forward they were my go to diner. I didn't have anything that I didn't like. The seafood Alfredo was one of my favorites! And on my last day at the hospital, I asked the owner to cater breakfast for my coworkers as a way of me thanking them for being so welcoming & he went above & beyond with the variety of food & the amount of food he delivered far exceeded what I paid for! All the staff loved the pancakes, sausage, French toast, bacon, bagels, fresh fruit, etc. There was enough for 3 different units to eat! This diner truly went above & beyond on making this out of towner feel at home. Thank you Band Wagon Diner for your delicious food, awesome hospitality & keeping this tired nurse fed!!

We swung by on a whim, enchanted by the sparking, beckoning appearance of the building. I was sad and confused to see some low Yelp scores after our visit today. We both had excellent omelets, and even more amazing service from our server (Kali, Kaily - not sure how to spell). She immediately adapted to his strange speech due to his disease, was on point, and warming. The strong coffee was delicious! I found the women's restroom to be spotless, as was the rest of the establishment. Even the shiny ceiling decor was dazzling & clean. (When you look up in most places - it's not!) The dessert counter looked amazing - but we were too full to indulge. We will be back, just for that! They have a Cannoli cheesecake that looks amazing and worth returning for.
