This was just a good clean safe feeling hotel. I was in town for business and stayed a few nights. I had zero issues. Check in was easy, it was in a decent area. They cleaned my room every day, which doesn't always happen these days. The bed was comfortable. The shower was nice. Good pressure and worked as it should. Breakfast was normal free breakfast but it was also well maintained and clean. I would definitely recommend staying here. Sorry. A stampede of people ran, yelled, banged, and repeatedly slammed doors for nearly an hour around 1am in the morning. The staff put us in an adjoining room that we did not request; the sound traveled terribly through that thin door!!! And, all of the handicap spots were all taken in the front--mostly by persons without handicap tags. That made it difficult for me, since I do have a handicap tag and need one. I guess they do not enforce that at this hotel. read more

This is the Up and Down hotel. The room is average to good, clean, nice decor and bed. The check in clerk was dull, and dense if not actually surly, but the night clerk was chipper and friendly. The internet connection was slow and generally unreliable. The shower pressure was the best in a standard hotel I've had ever, or at least in a decade. It was really good. We had an enjoyable stay at this property for a leisure weekend. The hotel is either new or recently remodeled. It is immaculately clean throughout. They have a friendly and helpful staff. It is in a great location with lots of nearby shopping and dining. The property has a well-lit and what appears to be a safe parking lot. We had a comfortable room with great amenities. The bathroom was well laid out with plenty of space. We appreciated the complimentary toiletries. The included breakfast buffet was very good and we enjoyed our meals. We wished there could have been more fruit options but this was a small detail. We were looking forward to the pancake maker machine but it apparently was being repaired. We definitely would choose this property again when we are in the area. read more

New Hotel, friendly staff and excellent accommodations. When we arrived we were treated with the utmost respect. The staff was super friendly, helpful with any questions that we had and were very knowledgeable. Our stay was fantastic and we really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were spacious, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was large. Everything about the room was perfect except the TV's. They were nice, but they weren't smart TV's so we weren't able to log into Hulu, Amazon or Netflix to watch our shows. Breakfast - now this was a breakfast to behold! The 2 biggest cool factors was the pancake machine and the cinnamon rolls. Those cinnamon rolls were marvelous, I think I at 4 of them they were that delicious. The food area was kept clean, stocked and the food was hot. I appreciated this very much. My only other complaint was the very strong cleaning smell in the lobby and in the room. I like things to be clean but I think an order less cleaning agent would be recommended. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are in the area. Nice, new hotel with complementary breakfast. We stayed as part of a wedding block, and it was a nice experience. The breakfast was good with lots of variety. The cinnamon rolls were delicious! The pancake machine was neat, but the finished product was just ok. My only real complaints were that the lobby and our room smelled strongly of cleaning chemicals when we arrived, and the TV was not a smart TV, so we couldn't watch Netflix. Otherwise we had an overall great stay and would come back. read more

This continues to be my go-to place to stay while in town. Quiet surroundings, well-appointed room with a Keurig (single-serve) coffee machine, microwave and mini refrigerator. Modern decor, clean and located near lots of food options and shopping. Golden Corral and CVS Pharmacy is in walking distance! The free breakfast offered each morning is absolutely delicious and better than most restaurants. There's something for everyone: pancakes, dry cereal, fresh fruit, biscuits, bacon or sausage, eggs, sausage gravy, toast, muffins, warm cinnamon buns, tea, coffee, juice water, etc Opportunities for improvement would be the installation of safety bars in the shower. Also, the bathroom floor was somewhat sticky under my slippers. read more

Upon crawling into bed we discovered a very large, very wet spot that appeared to be urine, someone had simply made the bed over a large, obvious pee spot in the bed. :/ Unfortunately no one has been able to follow up on this matter. read more

Welp - one year later and I still like the hotel but it has a couple of issues. 1) The breakfast is crap. Holiday Inns in general are all going to the same (bad) breakfast spread so I don't fault this one location for the selections ... but at 7:55AM they were OUT OF EVERYTHING. Very poorly maintained or replenished. After I had eaten my cold sausage biscuit they put out some "fresh" cinnamon rolls. Except they were hardly warm (let alone hot). I suggest hitting the Chic fil A across the street! 2) The shower had very obvious hairs on the wall - right at eye level. Overall I was ready to give this place high marks again but the issues above were disappointing and definitely left me reconsidering if I'll come back. read more

The accommodations were odd but clean. For some reason the my put us a handicapped accessible room. I called the number on the IHG app and after speaking to 4 people and being placed on hold 5 times they were able to help. When we got to the hotel I wasn't entered into the system so I had to wait until the young man entered me in made my key. It was a gap of 3 hours between when I called and when I arrived. Think they would've had the time. The fridge in the room did not work. Found that out after using it and the food inside spoiled. The next morning I get a knock at the door at 930. Housekeeping. What in the holy hell? I'm staying multiple nights. So aggravated I ask the front desk why? They ask if I had my do no disturb sign out? Well the room doesn't have one and they are out of them. So she makes me a hand made one. This is a nice place huh? The staff then cleans breakfast up early. Sooooo much for the free continental breakfast. Very quickly this is an epic fail. So to recap my food spoiled, the wouldn't allow us to sleep in, and hey the free breakfast left early. Do yourself a favor find another place to stay. read more

The room was clean, the staff was friendly, bit when we had wi-fi issues, very little help was offered. I was told by the hotel staff to call the IT department, and when I did, I was on the phone for 30 minutes with no resolution. The staff moved us to another room and initially the wi-fi was working well, but later in the evening, it wasn't connecting at all. The only advice given was to restart devices, which didn't work at all. I should not have had to call the IT dept, a discount on the room stay would have been nice, and the staff should be more capable of assisting with wi-fi issues. I understand some amenities aren't available right now, but reliable Wi-Fi is super important right now. When the IT dept called back, instead of taking are of the issue with the staff, the call was sent to my new room, which means the issues with the Wi-Fi on the third floor are still going on. read more

If you are a priority club member, do not assume that check out is at noon. It must be approved at check in, or the bloody Gestapo will beat the crud out of your door at 11:05 and treat you like you're committing a crime. I'm sorry... sometimes with checkout at 11 you may be 5 minutes late and yes, say something to them.... but that was ridiculous...... I immediately called the front desk and she said it had to be approved at check in.. and you know...that's fine....but seriously tho ....this is not how you deal with customers. I came down to check out and let her know, we worked all night and went to bed at 7AM and sorry for the confusion but nicely told her maybe next time it would prob be best not to send that guy to handle those situations especially when it was only 11:05 at that....and though nice.. just reiterated that check out was 11 am..... that's it..... The room was actually nice, very clean , king room had comfortable bed and girl at check in was very nice. So they just need a little lesson in customer service. read more

I booked a block of rooms for 8 of my students back in October for a clinic in February. 36 hours before the event the state of NC declared a state of emergency for weather meaning until my county made a call about canceling school or a delay, I couldn't insure our arrival legally. I called the hotel to communicate and ask what could be done - TRAVIS told me that I would be charged for all 8 rooms, but my colleague with her same block of rooms for the same event could call in until 7 am the next day to cancel if weather was bad. We had the same circumstance and one was treated differently than the other. After asking to speak to a higher up he yelled at me on the phone saying "FINE YOU HAVE UNTIL 7 AM". Rude!! The following day I received a snarky voicemail saying that all 8 rooms were charged to my card and didn't go through, I was NEVER told that parents couldn't present their credit card upon arrival times and I was told my card was simply used to HOLD the reservation. TRAVIS yelled at me again and said I needed all 8 parents to call in a credit card immediately or I'm losing all reservations but will be charged for them????? I called back 5 minutes later and another RUDE employee BRADLEY answered with an attitude telling me they had "made notes in my file" about talking to me about needing payment early. Obviously Bradley and Travis had discussed my issue (privacy anyone?) and decided to gang up against me. BRADLEY interrupted me, shouted over me, and used a very hostile tone while discussing this with me while I remained calm. Upon reading this hotels reviews BRADLEY and TRAVIS have obviously demeaned many customers and management has done nothing to improve their lack of professionalism or attitude issue. You work in the hospitality industry boys, that's your JOB - to be hospitable. I'm sorry you are miserable at work and don't have a true career, but your rudeness will continue to rank you hotel with a 1 star. I will NEVER book with this hotel ever again. Hampton Inn is 100% better, more kind, and even offered gift baskets for us. You have lost $1000 worth of annual business from this school teacher. I am excited to speak with corporate offices and relay information, names, and recorded conversations with the anger issues the staff suffers. I had reservation for October 24-27 for the Sherwood/Shakespeare wedding. My husband was hospitalized with heart issues and had to cancel the trip, which was canceled on Monday 10/21. I called 1-704-774-1799 three times, left a voice mail and I received no return phone call from their manager, Bradley Taylor. At this point I called the 1-888-HOLIDAY number and I spoke first with Walter the manager. I continue to receive scripted feedback and "Due to policy" reasoning. I asked to speak with someone above him, Walter stated "I am the manager of the department" I stated again I would like to speak to someone above you in regard to this matter. Walter proceed to tell me "if I had called on the phone, I could have made other arrangements. I told him I was at the hospital and had a small window to address issues online for cancelling my affairs. I explained the situation and I am unable to obtain a refund or voucher due to their "policy". I received a call from Lisa, a supervisor over Walter, offering assistance with this issue, she requested me to fax Dr. Thomas Ryan's letter explaining the medical need to cancelling the trip to Bradley Taylor at 1-704-774-176. Lisa called later stating she spoke with Bradley Taylor, whom has yet to contact me personally, to explain to me "due to policy" he is unwilling to give you a refund or a voucher. The explanation of their cancellation policy is poor and unable to find any information about what if the customer has a medication emergency cancellation. On my reservation and cancellation confirmation, "will forfeiture of your deposit" which is usually one night. If you look at this paperwork there is no "deposit" just an estimated price which I chose to pay all up front due to having the money at this time. This company has not been accommodating to serious conditions and I will not be giving further service. I do not suggest purchasing any type of service or thru any Holiday Inn company, they have poor standards for customer service. I had to cancel my Avis reservation and American airlines tickets that same day, both companies I gave kudos for their customer service for making my stressful time much easier. read more

Let me start out by saying that I travel frequently, worldwide. I stayed here at the Holiday Inn in Monroe and to say that my experience was absolutely horrible is an understatement. The room was dirty, but I could look past that. What was the cherry topper was the customer service. On the day of checkout I was feeling sick and called down to the front desk about 20 minutes before checkout and asked if I could postpone by an hour and from the moment she answered the phone she was very brash and rude and when I proceeded to ask she said no and I asked why and she said that they were booked which wasn't true at all as I inquired further. She told me that she would give me 10 minutes extra. Then housekeeping proceeded to knock on my door in 5 minute intervals prior to my checkout time and since I was sick and didn't want to deal with it, I left about 5 minutes after checkout and had to sit in my car for 30 minutes before I could even leave due to feeling ill and being forcefully kicked out. My guess is that she was buddies with housekeeping and didn't want them to have to wait on me, hence why they were banging down my door practically. I'll definitely NEVER return. read more

We have been traveling to Matthews NC once a month for the last 4 years for Dr appt. We have been staying at Holiday Inn in Matthews for that time. We decided to try Monroe as it is only 20 minutes away. We were very pleased by this hotel. The hotel is only 5 yrs old and in great condition. We believe it is the cleanest hotel we have stayed in. One of the most comfortable hotels I've ever seen. Super spacious rooms, big, comfy lobby, and light and airy eating area made this place just like a resort. The bed was like a cloud, the bathroom had plenty of room to get myself ready, and with free wifi and big, enriched desk area, I couldn't have been more refreshed. I will definitely stay there again, and recommend anyone to do the same. read more
