This is a hotel in the middle of nowhere, who charges a $5/day/vehicle "parking fee." This is not even in a place where parking is a challenge! Add to the room fee, but don't scam people on a parking fee. Won't stay here again. read more

Nice hotel but beware semi's park on the road in front of the hotel leaving engines on all night and you hear that engine noise in your room. Get a room facing the back of the hotel if you want to get ant sleep. Nice hotel in a bad location. They need to work with the city to get trucks prohibited on that little strip of road which is a dead end anyway. read more

Nice quiet and clean hotel. As for breakfast, you walk up to the table in the buffet area and tell the waitress what you want and she makes your plate. Breakfast isn't served until 6:30 AM so we skipped eating since we needed to be on the road by 6:00 AM. Minus one star for broken USB plugs between the beds, so we had to charge our phones using the USB ports located on the desk wall. read more

Was happy to find a hotel open during the quarantine. This seems to be a new were recently renovated holiday and it had all the new furniture fixtures and white night. I love these new beds that holiday inn has they are so comfortable I wish everyone had them. Check-in was easy because of state orders they don't offer breakfast, But they did have a grab and go bag so at least we had some thing for breakfast. Would definitely go here again it was very quiet also even being right beside the highway. read more

Not happy. Booked the hotel for myself as I'm helping my daughter set up her college dorm. Check in was "fine" - although not exactly welcoming or happy - more bothered. But on going to get a shower there is NO HOT WATER. I then go to front desk and there is a tiny sign at waist height saying "currently no hot water" Why didn't they say something when I checked in? 24 hours still no hot water - but keep being told it will be on within a few hours - so after a 9 hour drive and moving my daughters things all day I showered at hers. Unacceptable. ALAS! ....then I complain to the cleaners that there is "dried" urine all around the toilet basin- and nothing was done. I was out the entire day so did not get to check but you would assume it had been cleaned up (and why was it left in that state to begin with!!!!) When the hot water did come on - I went to use hairdryer and it was broken. Ohh, and there was no soap! The bed felt "sunken" in. I didn't expect a 5 star hotel but I am paying for a decent bed and hot shower ! The place clearly needs new management and way better care of its customers and the overall site. They said they would give me a discount which I do not see they have. I would never go back. (and while I'm at it, there are lollipops at the front desk - yep, opened wrappers.) They need to give a damn. On so many levels - totally unacceptable read more

Hostile and unhelpful front desk staff, rooms that could be charitably described as spartan, and most damningly for business travelers: non-operational wifi. I won't be staying here again, and I would caution other travelers to avoid it as well. read more

We were heading north and the weather and the traffic was awful so we decided to get off I-81 and stay here for the night. I will admit that the prior 2 nights we spent in a hotel that was well worth the 5 stars I gave it so this place was a bit of a let down. It's very dated and of need of a makeover. It doesn't smell particularly fresh and clean although our room seems clean. The bathroom is a nice size. The curtain is held closed by a large clip like you would use for a stack of paper. The TV is nice and big and has a good picture. read more

Our check in and overall experience was great. The gentleman who checked us in was very kind, efficient, and helpful. The room was clean, the pool was refreshing, and when we called down for sheets for the couch they were there within minutes. We booked this hotel because of the breakfast option, we're traveling with two small children, and we wanted to be able to eat and get on the road quickly. When we got downstairs there was no breakfast and no coffee. The two men who were supposed to be working were sitting in lobby chairs scrolling through their phones. When I asked about breakfast they didn't even look up from their phones to tell me they didn't have any pates and couldn't serve breakfast. They were so rude and unprofessional, it was a disappointing end to an overall good stay. read more

Stayed here a couple of nights on a business trip. Exterior grounds: the grounds were clean and appealing. Not sure how long this location has been around, but it's definitely has a newer appearance. There was sufficient parking on the front, one side, and rear of the building. Common areas: The areas I visited included the main lobby and dining area, both of which were clean and inviting. I passed the business center, but didn't check it out. I'm pretty sure there was a fitness center, but once again, I didn't check it out. The pool is outside, so it was covered over already, but it looked to be a decent sized pool and patio area. Breakfast had a nice selection of foods. The food was fresh and tasted good. Room: the room I had was large and appointed with newer furnishings. I was very comfortable in the room and was impressed by how clean it was. Staff: everyone I dealt with was polite and professional. Wi-fi: this is the one huge area for improvement. I arrived on a Sunday when the hotel was pretty well empty and had some issues with maintaining a stable internet connection. The next night was sold out and internet connection was impossible to maintain no matter what device I tried. Now, it could have been due to the fact that I was on the top floor and on the end...but there should be enough routers to handle that type of issue. So, this is a really good hotel, just don't count on internet reliability (or ask for a different room closer to their routers). read more

We spent the night here for my cousin's graduation at Virginia Tech. All hotels closer were booked, required a three night stay or were outrageously expensive. This hotel was booked last fall for the graduation. That just goes to show, you have to do your homework well ahead of a Tech graduation. Anyway, this hotel was fantastic. Everything was clean, everyone was friendly and the included hot breakfast was amazing! They have this futuristic pancake machine. You just push a button and within this self-contained unit, two hot and fluffy pancakes pop out! I was impressed. The beds are comfortable, the pillows...were not my favorite, but with four to a bed, you're bound to come up with some that work and I did as well! The bathroom was large and spacious with plenty of towels. I did notice there was no fan, and I found that kind of odd, but the shower was very good. The view out back of the hotel towards the pool is beautiful as well. You're in the mountains and it's just a great way to eat breakfast, while looking out at the country. Overall, if you are in Salem or attending a graduation in the area I highly recommend this hotel. You have to try the pancake machine! read more

Stopped here last minute on our drive south. Staff were very accommodating. The room was spacious enough for 3 of us, had everything we needed, and was clean! The bed was absolutely comfortable and had a good nights sleep. Woke up in the the morning to see we were tucked in around the Virginia mountains, with a nice view. They have a hot breakfast available, and I have to say the food was better than average for a self serve. You could even get freshly made pancakes. Loved the Cinnabons!I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It's very easy access from I-81. read more

Our new favorite hotel! It is clear that extra care and thought has been put in by Sherry and her staff. Easy flat parking, large rolling luggage carts, lots of comfy seating right inside the door. Gorgeous pool and hot tub surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys. Our room had extra extra extra towels, hooks, clips for the blackout drapes, pillows and the most comfy bed I've ever slept in. We were in the handicap room and it had a walk-in shower and helpful amenities that were lower for ease of use. The fridge had a great freezer and a real Keurig. There's tons of well designed seating in the lobby with a great view and lots of electric outlets. Modern and well maintained. read more

Horrible place to stay, for the amount of $$. Old beds, tile broken on the floors in room 213. Old carpet, Bad smell!! It smelled like smoke, and holiday inns have been smoke free for years! Def. Don't recommend staying here. The manager was rude, Took only $20.00 off of our bill. Told me the points would be added at check out, but they never added them! Took off 2 stars because the description said "fitness facility" and that is a joke. There is seriously only 1 excercise bike and 2 treadmills, nothing else. Not even 1 dumbell. Was hoping to work off some of the calories from all this deep fried, greasy southern food. Got in a few laps in the pool at least, although it was small and oddly shaped, making it hard to do laps. Other than that everything was great. Mini fridge in rooom, large bathroom, desk, free wifi, nice paint scheme, clean, 1min walk to gas station convenience store, breakfast until 10am although the pancake machine was broken 100% of the time. read more

A very simple hotel with clean facilities, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and a great location. Free Wi-Fi is only one of several amenities that any business or leisure traveler will appreciate. Unfortunately I was not able to give zero stars, but if I could, I would. Not only was the woman on staff incredibly rude, but the assistant manager was twice as rude. She would not let us talk to the general manager or the owner. Both women, especially the assistant manager Monika, had more attitude than necessary. She was unable to negotiate a way for us to hang out when we paid for these rooms. We asked for a place to be able to socialize after a softball game, but only received eye rolls and shouting voices. We had been being quiet but when they saw us outside, they threatened to call the police on us although we were paying customers. They also had promised the pool would be open during Memorial Day weekend, yet is still closed without an opening in sight. They also left a tv blaring all day and night. The tv was much louder than we ever were. There were actual complaints about the tv, but of course, that was never turned down or off. We asked for a refund, due to the pool not being open, and that refund was not received. Both of the ladies had no respect for their customers, and clearly the owner doesn't care about how his customers are being treated. They lied to us, and they were twice as loud as we were when they threatened us with calling the police. I will never stay here again, and I highly highly recommend avoiding the rude people in this hotel. read more

10 stars! I wish I knew the names of the staff that helped me on Sunday 3/7 around 5-6pm. I initially booked a suite but wanted to see if a connecting room was available so we could have the kids in a separate space but still have quick access to them. Initially, I didn't know how to explain my situation since IHG differs across their hotels in how they define a "suite." It took 3 people to figure out what I wanted, but they were all super patient with me and even waived the price difference. We were late to breakfast but what they had left was omelettes, cinnamon rolls, yogurt, oranges, and bananas. The room was really clean and not missing towels or amenities like the last place (Candlewood) we stayed. At our next destination, we realized we left something behind. The staff on call were prompt at returning our call, location our item, storing it in their lost and found, and coordinating it so we could pick it up on our return trip (thank goodness we were passing by again). The person on call today was also super nice. After multiple interactions with various people here, I'd have to say the hotel/manager is doing an amazing job hiring and training. Also, this hotel is located within a few hundred feet from a gas station and Burger King, so very convenient! Our family would definitely stay here again! read more

After being catcalled out of another hotel lobby in the area (the man at the main desk all but allowed this other man to follow me up to my room) the Holiday Inn was an absolutely wonderful experience. The woman at the front desk actually apologized when she mispronounced my last name after reading it off my license. I was given all the info I needed (check out time, breakfast hours, pool location) without even asking! The one issue I had was in the morning when the 2 cleaning staff were in my room and insisted I had checked out (despite only having gone down to get food) but the new woman at the desk took care of the whole situation with grace and empathy. From now on I'll be reserving this hotel for all my trips down the East Coast! read more

Summary: I stayed in room #203 on 5/6/2017 and paid $189 for the privilege of basically not sleeping from all the noise - it feels like the building is made of sticks and duck tape. I'll start off with the two pros, since everything else is full of cons: Pros: - Good mountain views from the rooms in the back side of the hotel - They do have an OK breakfast (Hampton Inn and others in the area have better ones though) Cons: Basically everything else: The building itself: Has to be wood frame construction - and extremely poor quality: - Was woken up to what sounded like someone starting heavy construction around 12:30 AM, which continued until almost 2 AM -- the noise was so loud, I thought the ceiling was going to give way. If this wasn't bad enough, the noise started again at 5:30 AM and kept going all morning. I'm a heavy sleeper who uses a noise machine, and there was no way I could sleep. And every time a neighbor closed a door or walked anywhere near the door, it felt like an earthquake in the room. Fitness center: Looks decent, until you realize the elliptical barely works, the treadmills are pressed quite literally against the back wall, and there is no TV in the room. The room: Not terrible, but not great either - even with low expectations. No extra blankets and a broken TV didn't help. read more

Located off of Rt 81, they always offer clean rooms for a moderate rate. The service is always good. Breakfast is limited, but they are NOT a restaurant. Football season always fills the southern hotels quickly. So make reservations. read more

I recommend! Stayed here twice on trip down south (and on the way back). Rooms are spacious and super clean. Front desk staff is really nice and friendly. Breakfast is plentiful (but I don't eat that kind of food!) and coffee is decent for a Holiday Inn. (And for an organic coffee snob :-). The room is quiet except for sometimes loud guests walking down hallway. Refrigerator in room goes on and off - subtle sound but can be annoying for light sleeper. Pillows are soft and cozy and goid variety of firm too! Bed is very comfortable! I got a good nights rest! There's a gas station right next to the hotel. read more

I am a fan of this hotel. The hotel feels like a new hotel. The rooms, hallways, and decor is all up to date. The hotel is right off the highway and very close to Roanoke. It was our first time here and we went hiking up a mountain nearby and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Stayed here two nights. The staff was very kind, very helpful. Breakfast was good, we didn't use the pool or the exercise facilities, but they looked fine. I gave it three stars because when we checked in, it obviously hadn't been thoroughly cleaned after the last guest. There were crumbs and dirt all over the floor, and my sister found hair between the sheets in her bed. The curtains have to be held shut with binder clips (provided by the hotel) to keep out the exterior lights. It would be a great deal, if it were cleaner. read more

This hotel was excellent. It was very clean; the room was very comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful and functional. The only complaint I would have is the hot, free breakfast is just slightly above a continental breakfast. I suggest you go 10 miles North to Cracker Barrel. Suggestion: if you do not have a discount of some type, stop at a rest stop and get a coupon book to get a really good rate. Highly recommended. read more
