This is one GROSS hotel! Blinds in the room are cheap Dollar Tree quality with no drapes. No closet rod to hang clothes. Room was a storage room and just a mess. Laundry Room not available. No AC in the lobby with water leak in women's bathroom. incredibly low sitting toilets. GM non responsive during our stay so checked out 2 1/2 weeks early. To have hourly employees take all the complaints while management hides indicates you have the wrong GM that clearly lacks the ability to keep a hotel in working order. There is no evidence of care and it's obvious. Guests are an inconvenience for this place! This property should not keep any brand flag because it does not meet any level of hospitality standards. Upper management needs to look at this disaster or just board the place up. It is a Dump! read more

Upon arriving at the hotel, there was always someone complaining to attendant and it lasted for about five minutes before I was provided a room. Once my room initially there was a smoke smell, and the room was dark. Downstairs was changed to another room. This room was on the same floor but the opposite side and did not have a smell room did however have a huge stain on the couch. I was pretty tired, had a lot of luggage and did not want to keep going back downstairs because only one elevator worked, and there was always a longer wait for the elevator. With only one working elevator this may busy times like breakfast very frustrating if you had to go back to the room. This hotel was going through some type of construction that was scaffolding all over the exterior as well as paint in some places that was missing. I wasn't too put out by that other than just the presentation of the hallway. Also, there was an attendant that worked mornings, Sunday and Saturday Who acted as if she did not want to be there, here attitude was not good. The person who was very pleasant was Friday and Saturday evening attendant. The darkness of the hallway was also a bit of a turn off, which made the hotel seem very cheap. Hotel is pretty decent and I HATE staying in a hotel. There are a few dings on the furniture and the carpet seems a bit.. worn, but the rest of the room is very clean. Bed sheets are super clean to the naked eye and they have come and given me fresh towels every day and changed all my trash. Mini fridge and microwave available. Tv is pretty small but works fine. Pool has a few floaties and could probably use a skimming but not bad. Hot tub seems well maintained. I enjoyed relaxing in it. Girls at the front desk are super nice and helpful as well. If i had to come back this way for something besides work, i'd stay here again. 3 stars just because the carpet could use some refurbishing and it gives it me the ick lol. I travel around a lot, and never have I seen such negligence on the cleanliness of a room. When those cleaning standards aren't met, typically a hotel will do everything in their power to resolve the issue. Not this hotel. I am allergic to mold, and my room just so happened to have mold growing all over the bathroom ceiling. Interestingly enough, it had been painted over so we didn't even see the mold until we took a shower. Since the bathrooms have no vents, the condensation collected on the ceiling and the room filled with an incredibly strong musty odor and black spores started leeching through the paint. My asthma got so bad that my inhaler wasn't even helping anymore. My husband and I just had to leave. When we requested a refund since we left early and the hotel quality was awful, the hotel refused to refund us our money. The report for the rooms after the inspection showed that the hotel painted over the ceilings again, resulting in a coverup. So just know if you decide to stay here that you will get horrible service, a disgustingly moldy and outdated room, and you will be staying at a hotel that tries to coverup their unsanitary and hazardous rooms. read more

It's the Holiday Inn in Big Rapids Michigan. Repeat about 3 or so times...I sure did as I cried myself to sleep... No in all seriousness it's not a bad hotel. I'm not a fan of hotels at all as there's no home in a hotel. My stay was comfortable and the room was clean. One odd thing I noticed is the showers are very low. I'm 6'6" tall and had to bend over a tad while showering... Awkward, that's a yes. Like I said though no complaints. The bed was comfy and I slept pretty well for being away from home. I would stay at the Holiday Inn again in a heartbeat if I had to and I'm sure that day will come soon enough as I am on an Advisory Board for my school. One thing to note I also received excellent service from the moment I called to check in to the moment I left. Good job! That's A Ok in my book! read more

Hotel is decent, doesn't come with a mini fridge or microwave. Wish they would have said this when we booked since we were coming as a hockey team with lots of small kids. Carpets are dirty, even came with a old straw behind the door and cob webs hanging from under the bathroom sink. Pool area couldn't keep pool towels stocked. You would think they would have a plan with knowing how many guests were coming. Restaurant was horrible. Breakfast buffet was horrible with cold instant eggs and hard pancakes. Tried having dinner, waited almost an hour before I sent my family to the pool. Food came and had them just box it up. Food was just dumped in and my husbands salad didn't even come with dressing. Got back to the room to find out they didn't even put my sons food in the bag. Wasn't impressed at all. If it wasn't for the friendly staff it would be one star. Next time going to find someplace else even if it means paying more and not getting the IHG points. read more

I feel bad for those folks, but the hotel has got to know better. 50+ children and their tired, needing to vent parents who sit in the hall and just want to drink a beer or two in peace at 10pm. How can 50+ children under 10 be quiet at all times? The hotel staff treated our families like we were party animals. They even called the cops on the kids. This is the first hotel I've stayed at in a while with no coffee and or cookies in the lobby and no continental breakfast. We will be staying elsewhere next time. read more

This is a dated hotel. It's decent and about what you would expect for the money. Why 2 stars? There are signs everywhere about wearing masks. It's the law in Michigan. There are signs all over the hotel telling me how clean and safe it is. The 2 people on the 4th floor who are cleaning the rooms were not wearing masks. Ridiculous. read more

We were greeted by a nice young man who immediately called the manager from behind him to deal with "supposed promises". We had reserved two rooms with adjoining doors. She was able to make it happen and all was well until we asked about the amenities on the website. The restaurant was closed due to renovations. Ok. Pool? Closed down because some had some sort of horrible episode involving some sort of body fluids in it, they were required by law to shut it down, but would be open the next day. Gym? Non existent. As we were told over and over again: they are renovating. Our room was nice enough but the cord from the sign of the closed restaurant was hitting the side of the building all night and sounded as if someone was knocking on a door somewhere. The next day we decided maybe it would be nice to have drinks next to the pool (not in it, gross) when it reopened, it was maybe 60 degrees in there. Condensation leaking from the ceiling into the pool. Hot tub jets did not work and there were paint chips in it. I would highly recommend this hotel to someone I did not like. read more

So it seems a tad run down to start but 5 stars? The room was nice, great comfortable bed, clean with a great tv. Worked out this morning the elliptical worked well and a nice selection of free weights Soviet a bit small. But the restaurant was amazing. Our inlets with fresh fruit were superb. I was visiting my friends and family from out of town for the holidays and choose your hotel due to its location. In the middle of the night there was a knock on my hotel room door. It was a strange man looking for his girlfriend. I told him that I did not know where she was and told the man to leave. The man then demanded to enter my room. I very firmly told the man to leave and he did. I then went back to sleep, thinking that the situation was resolved. A few minutes later I heard a key card unlock the door and the door opened. It was the same man from earlier and the front desk gave him a key to my room. I had the door chain latched or else this strange man would of broken into my room. He was pushing the door very hard and yelling at me to let him in. I called the front desk immediately to let them know what was happening and to see how this man received a key to my room. They told me that this man "said he was my boyfriend" and felt it was not a big deal that they gave a stranger my room key. I find this very disturbing. My name was the only name on the room, so I would expect for me to be the only one to obtain a key. I am very disturbed that in order to get a key to someone's room all you need to know is their name. I will never come back to another Holiday Inn. I would like to feel safe in a hotel, but now I am afraid to stay in any hotel. There are many cases of men obtaining a women's hotel room key and raping her. I am very grateful this did not happen to me. I will never be back to the Holiday Inn. This was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. read more

Arrived after midnight following a long day of travel. Was greeted by Bridget who was very helpful in getting me set up with the online rate. I wasn't able to book a room online for that night, since I had passed the midnight hour, so I appreciated the nice gesture. I was in a hurry, so I left the check-in counter without my breakfast coupon that was included with the stay. Bridget was nice enough to slide the breakfast coupon with a note about restaurant hours underneath the door. Big thanks to Bridget for helping me out in my travels from CA to MI. It was crowded with parents dropping their kids off at school, so lots of people milling about, but we were able to rest without too much noise before hitting the road the next day. Scene: A plane crash, burnt fuselage and burning corn field. A single person comes out of the torn plane wreckage... hes walking away from the burning mess, and does a fist pump while proclaming "I STAYED AT A HOLIDAY INN LAST NIGHT!" Well, that wasnt quite my experience, I actually dont get to fly that often (partner is afraid of it, but thats a WHOLE different review), but I did stay at the Holiday Inn Big Rapids! lol. So lets get to the hot chocolately fudgy brownie of the story (I just made that up; 'steak and potatoes' is so cliche' and brownies ALWAYS make everything all better) My room was very clean and updated. There were bizarre stains on the lamp shade next to the bed and I was NOT going to investigate it any further. Its a college town, so you do the math! The HVAC in the room means business. Do not piss it off, or you will regret it, as me and my business associate unfortunately found out as we lost about 20lbs sweating after asking it to heat the room from 68f to 72f. It went to 72f (and beyond) with a vengeance, let me tell ya. Im here for business so I dont get to play too much. The Bennigans attached to the hotel is AWFUL! Everything is deep fried. I wasnt surprised when my Margarita came to the table with an inch of grease on top and an old brown french fry floating in the grease. Kidding!! But the restaurant is awful, really. Go to Downtown Big Rapids. The food is cheaper/same price as Bennigans and its much much better. The pool/hot tub area is pretty big, I was impressed. The hot tub was scorching scalding hot. Ive had a hot tub at home for years and I will tell you right now they keep the hot tub here around 107f, maybe higher! The pool is heated and very nice. However, we came on a weekend that a kids hockey tournament was being held somewhere and there were about 100 pre-pubescent obxoxious 11 year olds running around the hotel, throwing chunks of snow into the pool, and peeing all over the public restrooms. Theres a ton of parking here and its really close to Wal-mart, Kmart, Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, Meijer, and a whole bunch of strip malls. Great location. The staff is friendly and to their credit, did scream at the obnoxious hockey kids that were running around, thank god. Other than that, yeah, I'd say its a go if you are looking for a place to stay in Big Rapids! I'd do it again. read more

Only giving one star so this can be seen. Horrible customer service!! The front desk as well as the GM John. My purse was missing and I asked if areas I was in could either be checked by them, myself, or cameras, they wouldn't let any of those happen. Just told me they couldn't help me repeatedly. The hot tub is not even warm and way below water level so when the jets fo hit it splashes out. Staff was not helpful.

This hotel has a mold/mildew problem. I visited friends in different rooms this weekend and I found the problem in at least 2 rooms. The smell was bad. And what I am guessing is a related problem, Our shower was backing up and because of the 1 inch shower pan and slow drain water was overflowing the shower. We told the front desk about it and they said if it does overflow don't worry about it and they would take responsibility for the overflowing water. And why were the facility rooms and laundry rooms left open ALL the time? On a positive note, the staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Recently stayed there with a young kids sports team (there are 14 families and we all stayed there for two nights) and wow were we disappointed. For starters, the staff was incredibly rude and condescending. They were unhelpful, made us feel unwelcome, and I couldn't believe how we were treated: 1) not providing extra towels at the pool when we asked 2) we booked and paid for a conference room for our team because they didn't want our kids playing knee hockey. So after paying for the room, they said we couldn't provide our own drinks so we had to spend a fortune on drinks from the hotel. They were so rude about it and ended up not letting us use the room for our allotted time. They called security and had security stand in the doorway while we were in there (eating pizza, kids playing, and adults talking). 3) some parents were talking in the hallway. Apparently a group of adults talking in the hall is a "fire hazard" so they called the police on us. 4) the weather was bad and I asked for an extra 20 minutes to get us out of our room for checkout (checking out at 11:20 instead of 11) and the front desk staff was so rude about my request - they complained about how many kids were here at the hotel right in front of a group of parents - which, by the way, we spent a ton of money at your hotel this weekend! The restaurant was awful, the servers repeatedly messed up orders, food wasn't cooked properly, just awful. I think that when we go to the tournament next year we will stay at the Hampton Inn down the road and spend our money there. Avoid this holiday inn at all costs! read more

So I complained about wifi, got nowhere, had to use my data, the manager Nina I think was here name gave me a fake smile and said she can have tech support call me, we tried that the night before and the guy hung up because the phone was static. Wifi connects but u can't watch YouTube or netflix. Another parents found a needle prick in the bathroom. The hot tub does not work either. Same fake smile from manager. We won't be back. Our hockey team won't be back. read more

Stayed here because we are going to tour Ferris University. Hotel was clean, but my blanket had a stain on it. WiFi was AWFUL. did not work at all. Could not connect. Which is extremely annoying. The receptionist was nice, basically the only reason why I'm giving this two stars. read more

Absolutely awesome service from a friendly and professional staff that's always ready to go above and beyond. If you happen by Big Rapids, plan on spending the night here. You won't regret it. We were heading home from up north and needed a place to stay the night. It was almost 10pm when we found the hotel's number on our GPS and called. The front office clerk was very welcoming -- she made us feel at ease after a very tiring day. The room was very clean and smelled great -- no funky odors anywhere. A little later around midnight, my wife felt a craving for hot chocolate. I knew there were no vending machines or free stuff in the lobby, so I slipped on my shoes and headed down to get some from the Walgreens nearby. I saw the clerk and, pretty much on a lark, asked her about hot chocolate. To my utter amazement, she immediately stepped behind the counter, went inside and came back with a steaming cup of cocoa! Now before you start calling me a pushover, understand I do travel quite a bit, and have stayed in Holiday Inns before -- no great shakes. But this was different. The staff actually cared enough to treat a tired bunch of travelers with honor and grace -- past midnight! Their attitude is entirely different from that of the typical hotel staff you find. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the hotel is owned partially by a state university, but I've never seen such a professional bunch of people that take real pride in their work. Things got even better the next day. My wife wasn't feeling well, and I requested an extended checkout. No problem. When she took our daughter for a swim in the heated indoor pool, the staff was very helpful again. Everything was so good at the hotel that we were kinda sad to leave. The attached Bennigan's restaurant was another thing entirely. This place really needs some help in the kitchen. I squeezed out about half a cup of grease from the hash browns at breakfast. Lunch was so-so, and again, laden with artery-busting amounts of grease. Before long we were past puke point. Service was indifferent. The maitre d' was fun and gracious to a fault, but the waitress acted like an automaton on Red Bull. Maybe it was the lunch crowd that made her slightly cranky. Overall the experience wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best either. But in the end, it was fun. We'll be back! read more
