This is one of the best Holiday Inn Express locations, and we have stayed at quite a few. The fellow who checked us in late last night was delightful. Everything is clean and comfortable. We had a restful night's sleep in a quiet room with in room coffee, plenty of hot water, and a full breakfast downstairs afterwards. The breakfast room overlooks a sunny patio lined with privacy fencing and colorful flowers (there are two outside tables too). The location is convenient to several main highways. Yo, once again I need a Quick place to crash because I was not getting along on the local Homestead. I gotta tell you that you might pay a couple bucks extra to stay here but good Lord does it pay off. KD & Ricky could not have been nicer. I used to go over every room with an ultraviolet light, but I know when I come here, I don't need to. Sweet ass breakfast, and a super accommodating staff. Hard to find a safe neighborhood to stay in the Bay area after arriving late from a flight and need to sleep off the fatigue before heading home the next day. This hotel is close enough to SFO to not have to drive too far, and yet far enough from SF area to feel safer and also but have parking fees. Hotel is pretty clean overall and so was our room. We were very tired so we slept quite well. Breakfast the next morning was adequate, but not plentiful as it was the standard HIE breakfast fare, but only 1 kind of fruit and limited bread choices as well (like only sliced white bread for toast). We only stayed 1 night and arrived quite late so no experience with the pool which was probably close since it was winter time and also didn't get to use the gym if there were one, we didn't check. Not a bad location and it felt quite safe and on route to head back on our way home the next day without having to drive out of the way, so overall it was a good stay and we'd stay here again in the future if the need arises. read more

I checked into the hotel at 345 am after a long shift in the ER. I had to be back at work in less than 8 hours so i chose to go to a hotel instead of drive almost an hour home. After settling in and falling asleep, I was awakened at 830am by housekeeping knocking on the door. On the entire 4th floor as far as I could see, I was the only room on the hall with the do not disturb sign posted. If check out time is at 11, WHY WAS I DISTURBED AND WOKEN UP AT 830?!?!?!? I complained to the front desk, nothing was done. I even emailed the manager and of course he didn't respond. I went to sleep and rest but was unable to do that. I will never stay at this location again and I will never suggest it to anyone else that's going for busy/rest. read more

I stayed here for a long weekend and enjoyed it overall. The entrance is super small on Castro Valley Blvd (busy street) so it's easy to miss. The front desk and staff are all super friendly and nice, but the facility had two big issues: 1. VERY flat, uncomfortable pillows. I had trouble sleeping through the night and had a lot of neck pain. I asked for a more supportive pillow, and the front desk gave me another super flat pillow lol. 2. Elevators are dangerous. I was in the lobby waiting for an elevator and housekeeping came down with two big carts of linen. So, I let them exit first and as I started going into the elevator, the door sprung out super quickly and hit my wrist with full force, and I spilled hot tea all over me. The elevator door was very strong and actually hurt. Thankfully, I'm young and healthy but an elderly person would have definitely fallen from the impact and had a more serious injury. Mgmt should invest in motion-detecting doors that can sense someone walking into the elevator, OR have a "keep doors open" button outside of the elevator. I would still recommend this place for the location. It's very central and close to Oakland, Fremont, SF, etc. But don't expect a comfortable night's sleep, and be SUPER careful going into the elevator. Here's my breakdown of pros and cons -- PROS: - Friendly staff and customer service - Hot tub - Sauna - Fitness room (treadmill, elliptical, weights, stationary bike) - Decent breakfast (Eggs, sausage, bacon, eggs, bagels, muffins, yogurt, cereal, juice, etc.) - Clean facility - Decent, spacious rooms CONS: - Very uncomfortable pillows (super flat, gives you neck pain, hard to fall asleep) - Dangerous elevator doors that can't detect someone walking in and may hit you with full force - Small parking lot (but maybe this place doesn't get full booked very often) read more

Managment is completely unresponsive to issues. Specifically Mr. Patel, the GM. A chirping fire alarm woke us up two nights in a row at 4am. Staff promised to fix it after the first night but didn't. They promised to discount my stay, so I stayed a final fourth night. When it came time to check out, they didn't honor the promise to discount my stay. I asked for the mgr--mgr wasn't in. Hotel is located at the interchange of I-580 and I-238 east of Hayward. It is about a mile to the BART station at Castro Valley (no shuttle noticed). Rooms are somewhat older but well maintained and comfortable. Water pressure was very good for the shower. Air conditioner worked great. Only downside, no pool. read more

I will never stay at a Holiday Inn Express again - I booked a room for a Saturday night, that was easy enough - the room charge was high I thought but OK - then I happened to check my bank and the room had already been charged to my care - over a week before my stay, I have never had that happen, from Motel 6 to Hilton Garden inn. When I canceled I learned I may be subject to a 25% cancellation fee - I canceled on the 1st for a stay on the 6th. I'll wait to see if I get a full refund - If I do I will update here but at the moment I am not a happy camper read more

Stayed here for a wedding. Plenty of parking, more in the back. Breakfast bar was okay considering that we're still in a pandemic. Check in and check out was really easy. You provide a chipped credit card and leave your keys in the room when your stay is over. The elevator was really slow sometimes, perhaps a sign that I should use the stairs and get some steps in, yeah? I was really happy with my room. All of the outlets worked and the AC was COLD!! I love having a cold room and sleeping under a blanket especially in the East Bay. I couldn't figure out how to navigate their tv system; I think they use DirectTV. Lotion, soap, body soap, shampoo, and conditioner are provided. The beds are covered with a bed bug protector which I really appreciate. Everyone at the front desk always greets you, which is awesome. There are many fast food places within walking distance. I loved the sheets and pillows. The hotel is on the right as you get off the freeway on the right, and its tucked away on Castro Valley Rd before Stonebridge Ave (traffic lights) with a sharp turn. So be ready to turn in or you will have to make a u-turn and come back. The bushes should be trimmed or another sign indicating Holiday Inn Express ahead on right should be placed higher outside to make it easier for guests to find it who are unfamiliar with the area. ***** Location ***** Hotel is centrally located. As the hotel is close and walkable to fast food restaurants if that's your thing (McDonalds, Cafe 4, Starbucks) and a Golfland if mini golf takes you. I'm sure you can drive to better sit down restaurants in Castro Valley, Hayward or Oakland (if you want to venture out). ***** Parking ***** Parking is free and is limited, only saw perhaps 15-20 spots upfront near Castro Valley Rd, there is parking in the lower structure to the left of the lobby and some in back. Castro Valley Rd is a busy street, less busy than 880 freeway but still busy. You can hear pickup trucks, Harley Davidsons racing and general road noise from your 2nd floor room (not quiet). Try 4th floor, you might hear less if you opt to stay here. ***** Check-in was a fiasco. ***** Very slow process, issues with their credit card reader, took 3 credit cards to charge me $20. Was assigned the wrong room with a single king bed when I requested two queens. Had to walk back down to lobby to explain and get the right room configuration. The elevator is rather slow for just 4 floors **** ***** Room décor average, road noise of traffic in-room. No in-room safe) ***** Deduct 2 stars The hallways have a nice carpet. The room decor is average, room in general is rather simple (no elegance). Couch was OK, beds are nice, generally clean. But I can hear the car noise of pickups, motorcycles and cars that are revving and racing. Do not stay on the lower levels and freeway west side. Seek 4th floor if you must stay here. The desk to work on is good, rolling chair is good. TV worked (basic cable channels, no premium movies), Wi-Fi worked as I type this review. General decor is basic, two pictures on wall and alarm clock radio was playing music when we entered, nice touch. Closet has a safe which does not work as of writing (9/12/18). Calling front desk advise me that they are in the mode of changing the safes, you can opt to use the front desk safe, sign a waiver, and they hand you a key like a bank safe security box but be prepared to stand in line to do this and later to retrieve your items. Very inconvenient, would be passable if hotel was not fully booked or had another attendant to handle guests already checked-in for assistance. Gap under front door is visible so bugs can crawl in if there are any. Room had a mini microwave that worked and dorm like mini refrigerator with two complimentary water bottles. ***** Bathroom has no in room sink ***** Deduct 1 star The bathroom has your basic toilet and standing shower tub but no sink (no sink to wash your hands). So if you go #1 or #2, you now need to take your unhygienic hands and open the door (eww) and proceed to use the sink in the living room (what an over sight for basic cleanliness). You would expect at least a star trek like door that opened automatically or sensor driven since there is no sink, but no. Alternatively you could opt to open the door with toilet paper to keep it hygienic but don't expect the guests before you who checked out to do that (eww). Wash your hands again and clean that door handle on both sides now with purell !! If you stay here, option wash your hands in the tub, just be ready to crouch down to do it. Then clean the bathroom door handle front and back as other guests likely used it and nobody cleans door handles (wash your hands again after cleaning the handles, then clean the front door handles!!). **** Fitness Center ***** I checked out the fitness room, it had a water cooler, towels, 1 adjustable bench, 1 treadmill, 1 elliptical, 1 recumbent bicycle, and some free weights (from 5lbs to 30lbs). A TV is there along with a large mirror. Its a functional room, a little cramped but you could work up a short sweat if inclined early morning or late evening to burn off some calories before a meal. Your card key opens the door and is to the right passed the front desk. ***** Summary ***** Front desk staff was pleasant, slow check-in, their credit card reader took 3 attempts before they could charge me a $20 deposit for any incidentals (which would be refunded the next day). The room mix-up 1 king bed vs reserved 2 queen and no safe in room. As of now I see 4 strikes (check-in was a fiasco, wrong room was assigned, room had no functioning safe, bathroom has no sink and room was noisy). Breakfast was decent (oatmeal, bagels, fruit, toast, cereals, juice, tea/ coffee; for the flesh eaters - sausages, eggs, pancakes, omelets, Cinnabon, muffins). Had out of town guests for a wedding. We chose this location to have guests stay. Pros: hotel was clean and the breakfast was better than most hotels (surprised). Cons: A few months before the wedding, we walked in to inquire the rates. The female manager that was on duty quoted us $100 more than what we saw online. We told her on the website it was $120 and proceeded to leave. As we were leaving, she then said, I can give to you $20 less. My husband and I looked at each other and smiled and left. We decided to book online. When we went in to check our guests in we spoken to a male manager and I would like to say his name was, Omar. I could be wrong, but he was pretty tall, a little big, maybe Hispanic. He was rude, unprofessional, and so much attitude. I brushed it off for the first 10 mins thinking maybe he was having a bad day. But after almost 45 mins, my patience was running low because of his rudeness. It was embarrassing. I don't think he should be running this business. Overall, parking is available. Great breakfast. I will not use this location for future guests. read more

I've stayed here at least 10 times! They recognize me when I walk in, greet me by my name, and are always friendly and welcoming. The rooms are always very clean and have updated decorations. The breakfast is standard for a hotel and a really nice perk! They have a wide variety of breakfast choices, eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, cereals, yogurt, fruit and toast and bagels. The coffee is delicious. It's the only hotel we stay at in Castro Valley. Highly recommend. read more

We had a great experience checking in with the daytime staff. They were very helpful and accommodating knowing we were having a wedding for our daughter. Later in the early evening, a few of us sat in the lobby to chat in the seating area. While chatting, the front desk clerk was checking in people. I was not facing the check-in area and didn't see guests checking in. Apparently the front desk clerk by the name of Carey thought we were chatting too loudly because he let out a loud shush. I had no idea where the shushing was coming from because, like I said, I was not facing the check-in area. After the third loud exasperated shush, I realized he was shushing us. I had no idea that we were being loud. If he would have politely let us know he thought we were too loud, I would be less offended. Instead he found it necessary to treat 5 to 6 adults in their 30s to 60s as children. Such an unprofessional way to treat guests staying at this Holiday Inn Express. read more

I happened on this place by accident. I was in town for a wedding and am from the area so I stupidly did not book a hotel, and everything was sold out. The rates were a bit high for the day but again everything was sold out. All the staff was very very nice on every shift especially the girl I assume is the night auditor. The breakfast area is lovely I loved the outdoor option. My room was very clean and lots of space. I m a big coffee drinker and the Keurig in the room was a pleasant surprise. I have worked in hotels for 14 years and have lived and worked in Las Vegas for 10 of them. This property is very nice and I felt very safe with my car in their parking lot. We have had to stay at the Holiday Inn Express twice now while work was being done at our house. I have been so pleasantly surprised by how kind the staff are. The front desk employees are always smiling and helpful. Breakfast has been great and the employee there has been so friendly as well. Definitely a kid approved breakfast which made my mornings easy! The customer service I experienced here rivaled The Ritz Carlton Half-moon Bay. This staff was very impressive. I stayed here for three weeks during a work assignment and every morning and every night when I would leave and come back from work they would greet me by my name no matter who is working at the front desk or no matter who I knew or didn't recognize they all knew who I was and asked me how I was doing and if I needed anything. They are both professional and accommodating. Amenities are closed or limited due to COVID-19 but that's the same as everywhere else. I had two different rooms during my stay and the beds were both very comfortable and the rooms were immaculate. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody. read more

Ok so my son, my dog and I had to leave our home and needed a place to stay, we first stayed at an airbnb but the owner decided he didn't want the dog there. So at 12 am we were driving around Hayward looking for another place, Airbnb offered to pay for a hotel up to $200 kindly enough. Well we chose unfortunately Holiday Inn Express where if you google it you will see as clear as day, "pets and children welcome". Ok great, we get there and check in, then once we are checked in I ask to pay the dog fee, and this is when they tell me no dogs. I then beg for a refund-Nope (Sam) wouldn't help at all. Everything we asked of hi. He couldn't do. About anything. So we put jackets down on the back seat of the car and have no choice but to leave our baby girl in there. I can't sleep, finally at 4am I check on her and she is shaking like a leaf. I don't care, I'm bringing her in. Walk past Sam and tell him my dog is a bulldog and doesn't have the same ability to keep her heat like other dogs and he goes on and on, no you can't or you will have to pay $300. I said well I'm not leaving her in the car. Later they start calling telling us to get out (Omar the mgr) so rudely. I was beside myself. We get moving and clean the whole room, nothing left behind and perfect room. Then he tells me he tried to take the $300 and I let him and Sam know that I didn't have any of my other cards with me, I just had a purchased debit with enough money to get home and they proceeded later to take everything off my card which is another $120. I am left with $4. No gas and am absolutely broken after all we went through. My dad is in the hospital, our house has flooding and we are dealing with either let our dog die or pay all we have to them. She did nothing to hurt anything yet these people have no humanity or kindness at all. I was not tying to sneak my dog in, I was up front and honest only to be kicked out, robbed and abandoned. I'm very picky and I can tell you that I'm pleasantly surprised at this Holiday Inn Express. A few things we need to consider there's only one way into the hotel it's probably my biggest complaint a lot of u-turns to get here but once you figure it out it's easy. The choices of condiments and their store is exceptional front desk is friendly and the rooms I'm very very surprised clean and pristine. I'm very surprised at the Holiday Inn Express but inside is a very comfortable room away from the road and it's very quiet in my room and the heaters are not cheap they work perfectly Amana heaters and showers fine and I'm sure the breakfast will be fine too so if you're in this area that seems like a very good value for the money. In a pinch due to power outages and a asthmatic kid we ended up here just for one night. Place was great, clean, friendly staff and very quiet. Plus they offer free good hot breakfast. Damn, this place has some good breakfast!! Haha, me and my family went to a New Years party close by and decided to stay here rather than drive home. Avoid the drunk drivers and such. The room was clean, had everything we needed, and worked out well. The staff was nice, greeting us when we arrived, making sure we had what we needed. The breakfast... Probably one of the better breakfasts ive had at a hotel. Definitely more than i ever expected from a Holiday Inn. They had cooked hot breakfast. Really? Yep. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, cereal, yogurt, etc etc.... Such a nice selection, and refilled pretty regularly. Will definitely return... great little place. read more

I thought this hotel had a different name- but I knew my parents had stayed here numerous times when visiting. We had emergency sewage drama- and needed a place to stay for all four of us. Rooms are clean and relatively spacious. There is a hot breakfast included, free wifi,- small gym and a hot tub. Free parking - I think it's a great deal. I'm surprised to see reviews criticising the staff. I found them to be quite possibly the friendliest I've run into. The manager in particular was very helpful and funny. Otherwise, the hotel was clean, the rooms were nice and had reasonably comfortable beds. The gym was small but served its purpose (although the floor was far too slippery for a workout room). The breakfast was, honestly, nothing special but was good in a pinch. Parking was fine - the hotel was completely booked and still there were plenty of spaces available. There are also a number of good hole-in-the-wall restaurants in the immediate area, and access to the 238 and 580 freeways was close and easy. If I had any complaint, it was that I thought the rate was a little high, but I'd definitely stay here again. read more
