Typically I stay in Hilton venues but we decided due to the length of our stay to try the Holiday Inn Express as the pricing was more competitive compared to the Hampton Inn that was also doing construction. Insights: price for two week stay was competitive and flexible if we needed to add/remove a day, breakfast (hubs like the pastry selections and I was pleased with the coffee which was make as you go from a self-serve machine that grinds the beans and then is a pour over), Holiday Inn member points, corporate owned (this has become important to us as we have had huge issues with independently owned hotels like Best Westerns that corporate refuses to address), location in town is easy to get in and out and central to food, pharmacy, and other stores that we needed such as UPS/Lowes. Facility is newer, clean and smells clean but needs some TLC including carpet/floors, bathroom detail in the room such as floor corners and window wells in the rooms. Bed linens were clean and bed was comfy. Room set-up worked well but we selected a room with more space because of the extended stay. Employees were super friendly and responsive; no problem requesting more towels. We used the laundry room (one washer/one dryer) as we often are tromping around our acreage and need to wash tshirts and such; the machines ran well and did its job. The black out shade worked its magic and the window was large and offered a great view of Mt. Airy. We would definitely stay here again. We definitely will stay here again. read more

Time for new mattresses!! Horrible, lumpy and bumpy nightmare. Sheets feel like corn husks. The bathrooms need a complete renovation. Shower sounds like a tea kettle getting ready to blow off the stove top with the high-pitched noises blaring through the room. The linens were high past their expiration date. My pillow case had a mold pattern on it. Gross! The wash rags were not white, some looked like the were used to clean up a grill...really gross! It was just really icky. Each night's rate was 151$ with an additional combined $20 in state/local taxes and occupancy tax. So, roughly $170 per night for lumpy mattresses with worn out box springs and icky linens. read more

Reserved a room with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa for our family of 5. Was enough room for all of us and didn't feel cramped. Beds were comfortable. I appreciated having a small refrigerator. Breakfast was "on the go" I am assuming due to remnants of COVID. With basically everything else being open at this point, I was curious why we couldn't just have breakfast in the area there. The only aspect I was less than impressed with was the customer service. They were quick to remind me that I had arrived early and that it wasn't officially check in time. I don't recall that happening before with me in most places that I've stayed. I was about 45 minutes "early" in an empty hotel. I also had to go back downstairs later and request linens for the sleeper sofa. No big deal, but could've been better experience. read more

We booked this hotel on a spur of the moment pulled in at midnight Judy was so friendly, exceptional honestly, rooms were very clean they have a nice breakfast selection that also was stocked and very clean. Keep in mind that my review is for a Holiday Inn Express Hotel, not for an upscale hotel. With this said, we were very satisfied with our stay at this hotel. Location Right off downtown Mount Airy, not really walking distance. Around the corner from the Andy Griffith museum. Front desk Karen welcomes you in a genuine and caring way. She's happy to answer all of your questions. Managers reception From 5pm to 7pm you're welcome to go into the dining area and enjoy complimentary wine, beer, or sodas, paired with some cheese cubes, or crackers. It was nice that the wine is from the local wineries. The red wine from Old North State Winery, its tasting room is located right on Main Street in downtown Mount Airy, was very good. The girl serving the wine always had a beautiful smile. Dining area Medium size and a cozy set up, with different seating areas, including comfortable couches. They keep a beverage station stocked the 24 hours, with regular coffee, decaf coffee, varieties of teas, and different cookies. Bedroom Our room, 413, double queen beds, was spacious and comfortable. Very clean. I love when hotels use the double sheet system, instead of bed spreads. Also, those sheets are white, so it leaves no dirt to hide. The beds were comfortable, with 4 pillows per bed, 2 soft and 2 firm. There is a large bench that you can use to seat on, or to put your luggage, something that many hotels don't have, a place to put your luggage. There are plenty of outlets so you can plug your electronics. The lighting is good, with plenty of different floor or table lamps. Also there is a large window that allows lots of natural light in. There is a full-size mirror in the bedroom, which allows a person to get ready while someone else is in the bathroom. Desk and chair. TV. Microwave, mini fridge, Keurig station. Bathroom The bathroom is medium size, with all the space you need. The Toiletries they supply are from Bath and Body Works. Breakfast Included in the price you pay for the room there is a hot breakfast with plenty of options. The lady serving is very sweet. Fitness room Small but well equipped and well-maintained fitness room, available 24 hours with your room key. Swimming pool The swimming pool is open until 10 PM. It's medium sized. We love holiday inns. This one was clean with spacious rooms. The breakfast buffets are awesome, especially if you're trying to avoid carb filled options. They have plenty of that stuff, but also some really good cheese and veggie omelets as well as sausage. read more

Traveling back from North Carolina we made this stop with Wytheville being booked. We rolled in late around midnight and greeted by one of the nicest people ever. This lady recognized we were tired and a baby. She helped get us set up in a nice room and offered to upgrade us to make sure we were comfortable for the short stay. She insured we had everything we needed. We are beyond grateful for this lady and having a room with a microwave to heat up the water for the bottles. Only suggestion I would have is new pillows, the place was very clean, and sheets were clean. The pillows were marked "soft" and "firm." They all felt like they were destroyed in a pillow fight and lacked any support at all. read more

I'm so tired of being treated like a 2nd rate customer because I have a dog that travels with me. She is a well behaved mature 10 lb. Shih Tzu. The lady at the counter made me feel like I was smuggling in a dog instead of paying a hefty price of $53 for each night. I'm a senior citizen with disposable income that loves to travel. Hotels need to come to grips with how to market and treat customers with pets. This one failed miserably. Btw mine is a registered support service animal. That didn't mean anything to this agent. She treated me like I was going to check in and strip the room clean. Sorry but they failed me terribly. read more

Overall a great stay! The employees at the front desk were very kind, and willingly met any request we had. Amid the ongoing COVID situation, breakfast was operating grab and go. A Bacon, Egg, and Cheese or Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit was served the morning of my stay, along with cereal, fruit, muffins, and several other offerings. The pool and fitness facilities were closed as well. My only complaint beyond the COVID closures/ altercations would relate to the slow elevator. read more

I used Hotels.com to book the room. We booked a suite and they assigned us to a room across from the noisy elevator. The elevator was louder than normal, so we asked for a different room. The clerk at the front-desk couldn't find us a different suite that wasn't also next to the elevator. So I then asked for any room not by the elevator, but she said she couldn't change our room to a different type since it was booked by a third-party (e.g. hotels.com). We called Holiday Inn (IHG) and they couldn't help either! Apparently only hotels.com could change the room type, but when I called hotels.com they said they system was down and couldn't do anything. I have used hotels.com and changed rooms at lots of different hotels. Never heard of this non-sense. The hotel looks OK, but upon further inspection one could see it was a bit run down, we could hear everyone in their rooms. The help at the front desk was clueless and worthless. So after much angst, we decided not to stay there and found a much much nicer hotel down the road in Dobson that was cheap and that had a wine tasting room. So skip this place if possible. read more

I liked this place, but my wife did not. The staff was very friendly, but the beds and pillows were not the best. The free breakfast was filled with cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon, and anything a carb lover would want! The pool is small, but nicely warm and clean. I worked out in the gym, be careful, as the gym equipment is new, but someone put it together wrong. The elliptical was falling apart and had bolts in the wrong places. Otherwise, it was a nice place and 1.4 miles from the Andy Griffith Statue and museum! Plus, tons of food places! read more

We stayed here again this year during both legs of our vacation trip. We were very satisfied. The only complaint is that there is never enough seating in the morning during breakfast. I recommend removing the couches and adding more tables. You'll make more families with kids happy. The couches in front of the TV are worthless. Nice hotel though. read more

This hotel was a life saver! The engine in my truck blew 300 miles away from home and in the middle of the night. Christina was so helpful in accommodating myself and my family in our time of need. We were put in a 2 queen suite with a pullout sofa bed which was perfect for my tired (and cranky) party of 5. We spent our first day in the pool and commuting back and forth to our vehicle and each and every time we walked back throyfh the door we were welcomed by a staff member with a smile and they would ask us if they could help with anything. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. I was an AGM at a Holiday Inn Express & Suites and know what to look for in an IHG property and what quality looks like. From the smiles at the front desk to the gluten-free blueberry muffins and egg white veggie omelets, to the wonderfully clean (and smelling good) room for us and our 8 month old Doodle pup, we were very pleased. They have wonderful grounds for you to play ball with your pups and the grounds are clean as well! The women in the breakfast area are meticulous with cleaning - we watched one girl get on her knees with the broom to get every last crumb from under a couch. Ended up here after our truck broke down on i77 on our way from PA to Georgia. Walked in the door at 330am with 3 tired children and was pleasantly greeted by Christina the night auditor. She was super nice and quickly got us checked in to a 2 queen suite. The room is fairly large but very clean! Comfortable beds and pillows and nice flat screen TVs. The A/C also cranked ice cold all night! That's important to me I like to sleep cold. The breakfast was okay, typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast. The indoor pool is also nice and clean and open daily til 10pm. Lots of close shopping and restaurants. The entire staff was nice and helpful with questions and always greeted with a smile. Our hotel stay was good. The tv in the room didn't work because someone before us messed it up. No one told us until checkout that they could have fixed it for us. When we called down no one answered the phone. The pool was closed when we got there and they were doing work on the floor by the check in desk. The people were friendly and the breakfast was good. My family and I often stop here as we are in Mt.Airy several times a year for festivals and my band is here often working late in the studio recording. We always stop here as it is just like coming home. The staff at this hotel are some of the best I have ever encountered. They were always friendly, helpful, and attentive. Caroline was very helpful in taking our reservation and by chance, was there to give us a friendly greeting as we arrived, and she even remembers us by name. There was always fresh coffee and hot water available, and of course the wonderful cookies in the evening. The breakfast bar was well-stocked and monitored by a staff member so there was never a need to get someone to refill something. The room was AWESOME! Very very roomy! Beds were FANTASTIC! The breakfast was increditable! Free high speed internet. I can't say enough good things about this hotel! All I know is if all the other Holiday Inn Express hotels are like this one, I've just found a new favorite hotel chain! You can bet I'll be trying this chain of hotels out in my travels! read more

The front desk person, Kim, was rude to customers as well as other staff members. She should have been removed from the front desk. Janice was helping us but every time Janice would select our room, Kim would say she was assigning it to someone else. It was unbelievable. The entire staff needs to be retrained in customer service. We had reservations and Kim had given our assigned room to someone else. After 10 hours on the road we had to wait half an hour for a room the be cleaned. Not happy travelers! Very clean and new hotel!!! Complimentary breakfast in the morning was pretty good. Staff was very friendly and helpful. If i had one complaint it would be that there is only one elevator which makes moving in and out a little cumbersome. It seemed to be always full when it would open on my floor. I am a priority club member, and even though they had suite rooms available and it was after 11pm, they did not offer us the room at the same rate on the confirmation we had. Excellent place and the price is reasonable. Hotel staff was friendly, complimentary breakfast was very good. I left my suitcase at the front desk after checking out at 6a. I didn't realize this until I had driven 7 hours away. We called the hotel and the manager was EXTREMELY helpful. She had the suitcase shipped back to our home in Chicago. I was very pleased with the service and the fact that she cared enough to follow through. Excellent location too, definitely will stay here again when I return to Mt. Airy. read more
