During our recent road trip, our family stayed at two different Fairfield Inn & Suite locations and…read morenoted a significant difference in the satisfaction of our stays. For comparison reasons, the other location we were at was the one in Ithaca - but this Syracuse location is our preferred location. Upon entry, you have a "Corner Cafe" for some snacks to purchase, the front desk, and then the breakfast area alongside coffee available all day. The breakfast seating area is about the same size in both hotels but I found the Syracuse location to be more comfortable as it was less cramped and less busy during breakfast hours. On the note of breakfast, the breakfast at the Syracuse location was significantly better. To compare, Syracuse had the following advantages: - Their mini fridge was available at all hours of the day, filled with individual packages of Chobani yogurt, Silk soy products (original and chocolate), milk (whole, 2%, and low fat chocolate), as well as some fruit cups and apple sauce. Versus the Ithaca location which has their fridge turned after breakfast so people couldn't access it, they had less variety and less stock. - Syracuse offers two waffle machines (with timers which were helpful), with a runnier yet fluffier waffle batter. At the Ithaca location, there was a constant line of 2-4 people waiting for the single machine and without the timer, people were often confused about when their waffles would be ready. - Overall, there are more items available at the Syracuse location: hard boiled eggs, Nutella packets, low fat cream cheese, single packets of Delight creamers, bananas, to name a few. - Despite breakfast hours being 6:30-9:30 am, the Syracuse location extends their breakfast for a bit after, keeping their stock, and leaves out stable items (i.e. the mini fridge) out for people to grab n' go versus the Ithaca location which stops stocking items in the last hour hence if you go for breakfast closer to 9 am, there's not much for you to eat. - the Ithaca location was also less organized with their breakfast. People were excited to get some cheese with their eggs, but got disappointed when they opened the container to find a compote of sorts.

The area where the ice machine, vending and an atm are located and the ground floor corridor are not. The corridor on our floor was updated. The elevator scared the beejesus out of me! Every time it started it 'dropped' before moving in a controlled way. Every. Time. New fear unlocked. Check. We were checked in quickly and easily, were directed to the elevator and told breakfast hours. We unloaded the vehicle and washed up a bit before heading to dinner at which point we found the sink would not drain. On our way out we asked if a plunger was available to us. I am aware most hotels only have one staff member on duty in the evenings and did not expect 'maintenance' to fix the clog. Reception had a plunger for us when we returned from dinner. (We did get the clog cleared but that was pretty gross.) The room has been newly painted with a new vanity, sink and mirror. The wall behind the mirror is tiled where the old, larger one was and a space next to the vanity, where a bigger counter top was, has been boxed in and I used as a shelf for personal care items. Bar soap on vanity and in shower, and single use personal care items on counter top. No hooks for toiletry bags. The bathroom was clean, has been updated with a new tub and surround, plenty of hot water, good pressure, no drain issue in the tub. The walls have been newly papered and a new towel shelf is over a newer toilet. Two of each towel type and a floor mat. Our room was small, with a King bed, a chair (which I do appreciate in a hotel room) that was older, worn and smelled of stale wine, a floor lamp behind the chair, closet, desk, TV, mini-fridge and coffee service. There is no designated luggage rack area or a portable one in the closet, where you will find an iron and board. Two bedside tables have lamps a plug and a USB. Wi-fi was free. The bed was comfortable with a variety of pillows, soft sheets and nice weight duvet. The heater looks like a replacement unit and kept the room cool during our summer visit. Breakfast included juice, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, waffles, two hot items (I didn't open the chafing dishes to look) fruit, yogurt, milk for cereal, bagels and bread. A microwave and add-ins like S&P and jelly are on an island in the middle of the breakfast buffet area. Staff did their jobs minimally. Not friendly, not rude, just unmotivated, uninterested. It was small things like our interactions and attention to details in the room and at breakfast. Breakfast staff seem to be reception staff so they are trying to juggle keeping the coffee pot full during a busy front desk/check-out time. I can understand their frustration. It seems like corners are being trimmed to pay for much needed updates to the property. Not sure if it has to do with the location, some event happening in the area or something else but this was the most expensive room on our trip and the smallest. Add in the lackluster customer service and attention to details and our stay did not feel like a good value.

(There were two rooms but no door between them to make a true suite.) Then, the dirty and dingy area rugs - get rid of them! The hall carpeting also needs vacuuming, if not replacing. The room has a little 30 inch TV sitting in the extra-large living room with absolutely no way to stream content, even with my Roku gear because the remote has no Input button. The room also lacks noise deadening draperery even though we were on main street! You get it. Then, the leather couch, hot in the summer and cold in the winter - go figure! Also, this couch is also so deep that your feet can't reach the floor unless you slide halfway down the couch, or you're 6 ft 4--either one! And no wifi!  Staff said they were trying to reset their router, but no results ever showed up. This could be a "high-end" place if the proprietors only cared enough, but apparently they don't. It's the little things and the "extras" that count.

In a time of impersonal online reservation systems and automated greetings, it's nice to find a B&B like Lincklaen House that sticks to its charming roots (and yes, they personally call your room in the AM). While giving some guest lectures up at Caz College, I had the pleasure of staying overnight and enjoying both breakfast and lunch on site to boot. Complimentary breakfast is provided for overnight visitors, and consists of waffles, yogurts, breads, fruits, coffee, tea, and juice. Better yet, we got to enjoy everything in the enclosed courtyard, with radiant heat floors warming up an already cozy space. Lunch options at the tavern are as hearty as they are heavy...come hungry! The Lincklaen House seems to be the locals' go-to for meetings, meals, and everything in between, and there was no shortage of activity on premises as I was in and out throughout the day. Staff were terrific from start to finish, and they even provided me a gift basket and complimentary bottle of wine upon my arrival. Coupled with the 2-minute walking distance to the Caz Campus and I couldn't possibly imagine a better place to stay in Cazenovia!

The decor was charming, with beautiful linens and incredible artwork on every wall, which were painted by our host. There were chandeliers in nearly every room. The bathroom was clean and modern with an abundance of towels and some toiletries. The fireplace was digitally powered and such a treat when it got chilly at night. Guests were free to lounge in the sitting areas throughout the house. The main living room had an impressive library of books. Breakfast was served at 9am. Our host was so doting and served us on lovely china. She offered fresh berries, homemade cream, scrambled eggs, bacon, french toast, and buttered toast. WiFi was fast and our room had a smart TV. The place was not spotless. A bit of dust and bugs here and there, but it was comfortable and the host was delightfully kind and welcoming. Definitely a gem for any traveler in the area.

The house is an older house, it's a bit rough in a couple of areas but, lovely for the most part. My business colleague and I were the only ones here. I think we were here during an off-time. I would give them four stars but, there were just a few things I can't forgive. Mildew on one of my wash cloths - blech! But, the other towels were fine, and it was very clean. Noticeable water damage in the bathroom....it wasn't actively leaking or being gross but, really? That's something that needs to be fixed. Original review: Well, isn't this a bit strange. I have traveled to Syracuse for work and, not quite sure why but, was booked here to spend the night. Got a ride here late, from the airport. Can't really say I've had a chance to see anything other than the staircase and the room, thus far. The room is nice enough. It seems like a nice old house, must be in a historic neighborhood. How sad is that, I don't even know where I am staying. We'll see how the place is in the morning, after breakfast, and write a proper review. For now, the room is nice enough. As far as a B&B goes, I just don't have much experience with this sort of thing to rate it. Big old antique bed, it's beautiful. The room is a room in an old house. We came in for the Ironman Syracuse weekend and were lucky to snag a room at this b&b before the big race day. The owner (I want to say his name was Philip?) was informative and personal, and our stay didn't fall short of expectations. The room was clean, the water was hot, the ice machine was heaping with ice for our bucket of....wine, and there was even a bowl of fresh fruit downstairs (huge plus for pre-race day). During our stay, there was another race couple there as well, and Philip was considerate enough to make them buttered pasta for a 4am race day breakfast. What a champion, that Philip. All on all, our stay was terrific, and the grounds are really romantic ;) oh ...and there was no mold on the towels.

Our hostess left us a list of instructions and tips and was very quiet and respectful of our privacy. We could call her if anything went wrong, but otherwise, I didn't actually see her. I wouldn't have been opposed to this though because I wanted to thank her! Katie, our host, created an incredible breakfast bar. There was Oui yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, cheese, a variety of cereal, oatmeal, milk, orange juice, coffee, and tea. She had also generously stocked cookies from a bakery, granola bars, bags of nuts, biscotti, and other easy-to-grab snacks. Our suite was beautiful. My pictures don't really do it justice, but there were two chairs, a drawer, table, and a TV in one side, and everything we needed for a bedroom on the other. Katie also provided luxurious bathrobes and luxury shampoo and conditioner (TeaTree). We also had access to the dining room and living room, which made it feel like we had a home away from home. One of my favorite parts of the house though was the front porch, which contained two swings and two chairs. I loved starting my morning on the covered porch and will have a hard time leaving that behind. The location is incredible, allowing us to walk to the lake, restaurants, and any shops we wanted to visit. Katie was the perfect host. The decor was stunning and our experience couldn't have been better.

We were on a fast trip for a wedding and allowed us only to spend two nights at 34 State. We so appreciated Katie & Jack's kindness, hospitality and helpfulness. Not to mention getting kisses from their beautiful lab, Oakley. We stayed in the elegant Barrow Suite. It's on the second floor as is their other suite, but they are working on a suite on the first floor for those with problems walking up stairs. Continental breakfast awaited us every morning as a fridge stocked with yogurt, fresh fruit, beer and many more items. I commented they were out of water and upon our return, not only was the fridge fully restocked, but a note with a special touch was provided. It is within walking distance to downtown Skaneateles without staying right in the middle of the main road. There is a big dinning room and living room, along with a beautiful porch with a swing to spend the afternoons drinking a cocktail. They attend to every need you may have i.e. reservations to restaurants and will follow up with restaurant to make sure you had a great experience and the best table. We look forward to our next trip and without a doubt where we will stay!

The hardest part was finding it , the sign is tiny and blocked by a bush till your right on top of it and it's located way back behind another building . They need a better sign . The room was spacious and my favorite part was the comfy couch , it's long enough to lay on and take a nap . Breakfast was included, it was minimal , meat, eggs of some sort , potato's , and my favorite waffle maker , and assorted cereals, yogurt, fruit . The large bathroom with marble accents and a HUGE walk-in shower with seating also made for a memorable weekend. We didn't really have a chance to explore the rest of the common areas in the house, mainly because we spent so much time enjoying our time in the room itself. Hannum House is right next door to the lovely Sherwood Inn where we dined one night and had breakfast every morning. Nestled in the heart of Skaneateles, there's plenty to do if you venture around town too.

As I walked into the Sherwood Inn (next door and where you check in), I was greeted with a, "Hi Mr. Gates, welcome back, it is nice to see you. Your room is ready. Do you want me to walk you over?" Mind you, my wife and I are retired teachers and not high rollers, but are treated like millionaires every time we go there. We next had a spectacular lunch at the Sherwood Inn, again treated like we were the most important people in the world. After lunch, we moved in to our room. It is without a doubt, the most gorgeous room we have ever stayed in. Everything, including a spectacular bathroom is world class. Our stay was wonderful, made so nice by Sherwood Inn workers. A special shout-out to Chad, Robin, the breakfast crew, and all the ladies at the front-desk. We certainly will return to our favorite place!
