It gets a 5 for roominess, but it gets a 2 for just about all else, starting with false advertising, The room was not a suite, although we paid for a suite. (There were two rooms but no door between them to make a true suite.) Then, the dirty and dingy area rugs - get rid of them! The hall carpeting also needs vacuuming, if not replacing. The room has a little 30 inch TV sitting in the extra-large living room with absolutely no way to stream content, even with my Roku gear because the remote has no Input button. The room also lacks noise deadening draperery even though we were on main street! You get it. Then, the leather couch, hot in the summer and cold in the winter - go figure! Also, this couch is also so deep that your feet can't reach the floor unless you slide halfway down the couch, or you're 6 ft 4--either one! And no wifi!  Staff said they were trying to reset their router, but no results ever showed up. This could be a "high-end" place if the proprietors only cared enough, but apparently they don't. Once upon a time, getting a wake up call from the front desk actually meant someONE from the front desk picking up the phone and...calling you. In a time of impersonal online reservation systems and automated greetings, it's nice to find a B&B like Lincklaen House that sticks to its charming roots (and yes, they personally call your room in the AM). While giving some guest lectures up at Caz College, I had the pleasure of staying overnight and enjoying both breakfast and lunch on site to boot. Complimentary breakfast is provided for overnight visitors, and consists of waffles, yogurts, breads, fruits, coffee, tea, and juice. Better yet, we got to enjoy everything in the enclosed courtyard, with radiant heat floors warming up an already cozy space. Lunch options at the tavern are as hearty as they are heavy...come hungry! The Lincklaen House seems to be the locals' go-to for meetings, meals, and everything in between, and there was no shortage of activity on premises as I was in and out throughout the day. Staff were terrific from start to finish, and they even provided me a gift basket and complimentary bottle of wine upon my arrival. Coupled with the 2-minute walking distance to the Caz Campus and I couldn't possibly imagine a better place to stay in Cazenovia! read more

Cazenovia is a treat if you love 19th century architecture and this hotel fits in perfectly with the rows of quaint shops, however, it badly needs work. There are several things that could be done to help increase their rating and revenue. As they say, you have to sell the rooms. The amenities like bar and restaurant are nice but the bulk of revenue comes from keeping a hotel constantly at a high level of occupancy. Look at the pictures, simply beautiful and the staff are welcoming...but: The room locks are bad. They are a modern turn key lock, but you have to try to figure out how to turn the key back again after unlocking and then double check that the handle doesn't move before closing your door from the inside, or else you are not locked in (except for a flimsy chain). They need to be replaced, for guest safety and piece of mind, even though this is Caz not NYC. Even one incident of an inebriated person mistaking the wrong room in the middle of the night and scaring a guest could result in a big issue for the hotel. The linen is rough and needs replacing. The rooms are picturesque but modern guests want modern comforts, like linens at least as soft as you would have in your own home. The side door entrance could use a big area rug over the floor if they are not going to replace all the broken tiles. The bathrooms are reminiscent of thruway motel bathrooms and they do an injustice to the rest of the hotel. The old English maxim "paint it white" does not serve well here, although it may have been done to make the area look larger. White and cream colors get dirty and dingy easily and the bathroom appliances are utilitarian only. Much could be done in the bathroom to make the room look better overall. It is crowded and a man cannot stand directly in front of the toilet. Plumbing is what it is, any attempt to move the toilet even a few inches to the side is going to be a major deal. The standing sink could be replaced with a small sink basin that sets slightly nearer the door in an elongated counter that can hold toiletries. The counter could curve and taper so it doesn't overhang the toilet. The bathroom has cheap looking, unevenly hung towel racks and narrow shelves, a small mirror and cheap lighting fixtures. If these were replaced with slightly nicer fixtures and the walls painted a more pleasing color, this would make the bathroom look better. Colored, soft towels and bath rugs would also help the overall look. Even a toilet seat cover, tank cover and a bowl of potpourri or wicker tissue holder could camouflage the plain toilet. If they were going to replace the tub though, a simple standing shower would suffice for most travelers and make the bathroom less crowded. A towel valet or shelf in the newly freed up space would improve the look. If someone was looking to put money into renovation, this is the place to concentrate on first, from a guest p.o.v. So, a lot of criticism, but hopefully in the spirit of helping. The bulk of the hotel is charming and beautiful. I'm sure the owners would love to have this place full of bustling Dickensian good cheer, and all the year round. The big fireplaces are showcased well, the dining rooms are breathtaking, the staircase leads to lovely wallpapered hallways, all these things are so unusual compared to a modern hotel. There are many artisan bakeries, shops, craft stores and the like to explore and they are within walking distance. In particular I would recommend the fresh baked bread at HeartStone Bakery and the locally made jams, cider, honey, jewelry, souvenirs and tchotchkes at 20 East. Cazenovia Lake is nearby, the classically beautiful Brewster Inn for more fine dining, many historical sites and relaxing country drives through the farmland or through the woods over to Cazenovia Falls. read more

I once stayed at a hostel called The World Hotel in NYC's Chinatown ... this place might be taking some tips on housekeeping from them. Here's what a $150 a night room will provide: 2 spiders 1 bee white stains on the comforter visibly shabby linens grey stained blanket dirty carpet towels so rough they exfoliate foam pillows curtains that let all the light in at night a dozen spider webs I mean, who is in charge of this place? Get it together. The downstairs is lovely. It's so lovely that it deserves guest rooms to match. read more

So like a previous review, there are good and bad points. The good: we had dinner Saturday night with a party of 10. Our waitress was pleasant and did a good job of keeping things going at a good pace. She dropped the ball on a gluten free Order that should have had rice but came with pilaf. I'm sure if we'd pointed out the mistake she would have rectified it quickly. My chicken Marsala was good, my son's steak a little more well then he would have preferred and everyone seemed to enjoy the parmigiana. We asked about the Sunday Brunch the next morning,but was told it was booked solid. A senior staff person overheard the conversation and looked and saw there was a cancellation and was able to get us in first seating which we really appreciated because it was Easter and we weren't sure what we'd find open for breakfast. The buffet was large with plenty to choose from. If I were going to nit pick my complaint would've about the tea. The first cup our waitress took the mug back to the kitchen to fill it. The second cup a different waitress brought a small pot of water and fresh tea bag. The mugs were on the smaller side to begin with, but the pot of water was even smaller and only filled up the cup half way! Just annoying. Now on to the Inn stay. The hotel is older and quaint. Slightly rundown. We stayed in room 309. There is no elevator so you do have to carry all your things up 3 flights of stairs. The room was small and classical. Felt a little like staying at your grandmother's house. Definitely in need of some updating, especially the bathroom. Small sink, no counter to put toiletries on, no hooks for clothes. The flooring and tub need to be replaced. They lost a star on bathroom cleanliness. Stray hairs in the tub and stains on the white towels are inexcusable. The bedroom was cleaner and fresh smelling, but really warm. We tried turning the thermostat down,but that did nothing. We opened the windows and here was another huge problem. We were right over the kitchen exhaust and Ac units! The noise all night was miserable ( our room smelled like grilled steak, not such a bad thing ). The mattress needed replacing or at the very least a memory foam mattress topper. A higher thread count bedding wouldn't hurt either. So to end on a positive note the staff person who made our reservation for brunch enthusiastically welcomed us at brunch and made us feel welcome. We'd stay again just for something beyond a Hampton Inn. And on a comical note, our kids attended Morrisville and Cazenovia and are familiar with the local history and told us the hotel was haunted so I was a little apprehensive. Thankfully no wandering spirits came to visit. read more

Me and my Fiancé just stayed at the Lincklean House for an extended 11 day trip of Upstate New York. This stay felt so comfortable we felt as if we were staying in our own house. The Staff was warm and friendly. The restaurant and pub were top Notch. I cannot say enough about such a wonderful experience we had. I highly recommend this Hotel for any visitors wanting to explore what Upstate New York is all about. Thank you so much for your Kindness and willingness to help when questions were asked. Hotel looked nice but we got woken up both nights at three in the morning by noisy, drunk people across the street. The windows must have been paper thin because we could hear everything. this was incredibly frustrating and we will not ever come back because of it. If you must stay here ask for a room away from the edges of the building, in the interior of the hotel. Otherwise you'll be up all night listening to drunks yelling the street or singing karaoke. I wish I'd read some of the hotel reviews before I booked our stay at Lincklaen House. Like some of the other reviewers, we chose the hotel because of its location. We had a wedding to attend and Lincklaen was only 10 mins from the venue. I checked the reviews but must've looked at the restaurant/tavern reviews, not the hotel. Whoops! The good: excellent location, friendly staff, good restaurant, nice brunch on Sunday. We visited on a lovely June day and sat out in the courtyard. Very nice. The less good: The rooms are shabby and dirty. I had to put a towel down on the floor and in the bathtub so we wouldn't touch the yuch that was there. The linens are the worst I've seen in a hotel in a long time. Poor quality and barely looked washed. The bad: Once upon a time this hotel must have been magnificent -- the details in the lobby and rooms are beautiful but they desperately need some cleaning up. The level of grime is nasty. rude and unhelpful staff(front desk). not enough parking for guests during events, big problem. GREAT food but a gin and tonic is not made with seltzer water! The rooms were nice enough and dog friendly, but does not make up for the staff. I have stayed at the Brewster Inn and was much more impressed with the staff and accommodations. There are also a few low key b&bs that are as equally as nice. The rooms were much nicer than the Caz motel where I have stayed in the pass, but I would have gladly have stayed at the Caz motel over the Lincklean given the price and service. I would recommend the Lincklean for dinner but not overnight. read more
