This downtown Toronto Holiday Inn Express hotel is a stones throw from St. James Park just to the south. It is rated Accessible and Pet-friendly. Front desk staff are professional; be nice at a minimum and you'll get that in return.  This is my first visit to this venue although I've stayed at Holiday Inn Express both in the USA and as far north as Sudbury. I'm only here to visit one guest staying in a room.  He said the room was very nice and had a small fridge and microwave so I can't speak first-hand of the experience.  Just keeping my social distance with the COVID-19 situation and the safety of all. Paid parking is available, breakfast and WiFi are free for guests. You can also catch an airport shuttle. Many amenities like a restaurant, fitness centre, business centre may not be fully opened due to COVID-19 restrictions. Venture outside and you can experience the Rogers Centre a few kilometres west, or the famous Kim's Convenience as seen on the TV series by the same name only 300 metres away.

I spent my 2weeks quarantine here. The experience overall is nice. The bed is comfortable and bathroom is clean. Front desk responds to call quickly. Since i was in quarantine, the hotel will send food to my door. The food tasted okay but the annoying part is sometimes I get completely cold scramble egg/ bacon/ sausages.

I am DISGUSTED with this hotel. Upon checking the bed for bedbugs (as travellers we do this at every hotel) we found a syringe and drug paraphernalia under our mattress. We brought it to the attention of the hotel staff and were "upgraded" to a new room. The exact same room just on a higher floor. I asked the manager what he planned to do to rectify the situation and his response was "free parking or we could checkout if we wanted to", AFTER HE QUESTIONED US about why we even looked under the mattress in the first place. This is not our first stay in this hotel, but will absolutely be our last. I understand there are circumstances they can't control but they can control how they respond to it. Almost $400 to stay in a room where not only one of us but their own staff could have had a needle stick from a disgusting drug needle. Shame on them.

The best thing about this hotel is the free breakfast starting at 630am. In the morning, they have a coffee and tea station right outside the breakfast room right across from the elevators. Breakfast includes milk, juice, yogurt (regular and Greek), cereal (fruit loops, corn flakes with strawberry or blueberry), instant packaged oatmeal, eggs, sausage, biscuit, bread, bagel, muffins, pancakes, bananas and apples. The breakfast area is well stocked and clean. This hotel offers free hot & cold breakfast, high-speed Internet access in every room, a daily newspaper and local calls. Check in is at 3p and check out is at 11a. Parking price is similar to other nearby hotels at $20/24 hour period. There is no gym, pool or room service. I got the room for 1 night for $172 during the weekday. There is no fridge or microwave in the room. The rooms facing Jarvis are a little louder with traffic noise, but I didn't really notice. I slept pretty well. It might have helped that I had the heater going on low to drown out some of the street noise. The rooms are big and clean, but older and a bit lackluster. There is a closet for clothes and 3 big drawers under the TV for storage. There aren't too many outlets and I have to unplug the lamp on the nightstand to plug in my phone. I tried checking in around 9a, but there were no rooms available yet as they were sold out the night before. The nice front desk person informed me that they sold out often. I just thought there was something going on this week since all the hotels downtown were sold out. I was counting my lucky stars that a room opened up at this hotel when I checked the day before (they were sold out when I checked a week prior to coming). I left my luggage with them that was kept locked in the baggage room. When I came back by 2pm, there were rooms available for check in. The elevators here are pretty slow and I hate waiting for them, so I requested something on the lower floors so I can just take the stairs. It's so much easier that way. LOCATION: The hotel is about a 7 minute walk to the Eaton Center and has many restaurants nearby. Fahrenheit and Mystic Muffin right around the corner are a couple of great places to try. The hotel is about 30min - 60 min from YYZ/Pearson airport (depending on traffic), taxi from/to the airport is about $55-$65.

Ever since my parents sold my childhood home and moved away from Toronto, all my trips back to Toronto now involve staying in a hotel. So on my most recent trip to Toronto, my husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Toronto Downtown. We enjoyed our stay and I have to say that it's one of the better HIEs. Like most HIEs, it's functional and clean. Sure, the decor is somewhat dated, but that doesn't bother me. We paid $129/night and that included free hot breakfast, local calls and WiFi. We didn't go by car, but I believe that parking is an extra $20/night. The staff there from the front desk people, to the cleaners, to the staff working the breakfast counters, were all very friendly and nice. The rooms weren't huge, there's no fridge or microwave, but the rooms were clean and comfortable enough. Toiletries were from Bath and Body Works. The hot breakfast was great. And they have little things that set them apart from other HIEs. For example, all other HIEs I've been to use processed cheese spread (like Cheez Whiz) in their "cheese omelettes," but not this location, they use real cheddar cheese! They have regular yogurt AND Greek yogurt (several flavours of each). In addition to the usual cereal options at HIEs (Froot Loops, Corn Flakes and Raisin Bran) they also had Special K with Berries (yep, the little freeze-dried berries that are oh so yummy!). They don't have a pancake machine though. They alternate between scrambled eggs and omelettes (your choice of real cheese omelette or plain omelette) and between bacon and pork sausage. They have turkey sausage every day. They also have muffins, English muffins, bagels, toast, cinnamon buns, bananas and oatmeal. The dining area has a spillover room across the hallway. The main dining area was always crowded, but there were very few people in the spillover room, so we ate there every morning of our stay. It was much quieter and I preferred it. It was just farther from the food if you wanted to get more of anything. Location is pretty much right downtown. The closest subway station is King. Another reviewer said that the view from this hotel is a homeless shelter. Yes, there is the Salvation Army Gateway on Jarvis across from the hotel and if you have rooms facing Jarvis, this may be your view. Our room faced the courtyard. The main entrance is from the courtyard (which you can access either off Lombard or Adelaide). It's not in a tony neighbourhood, but I wouldn't consider it a rough part of town either. There's a church on the other side of Adelaide, and the church bells ring on the hour. So if you are a light sleeper, this may be an issue for you. I'm not that heavy of a sleeper, but I was not bothered by the church bells. WiFi was fast and reliable. I have to mention though, we were initially told to use the "basic package" log on which requires you to enter your last name and room number as the passwords. This did not work. So I called the front desk and they gave me the password for the "access code" log on, which worked perfectly. Another reviewer mentioned that this place lacks electrical plugs. The dated decor makes me think this place was built at a time when not everyone and their kid has a cell phone, tablet and laptop. So yes, there is one plug on the lamp on the desk and one plug on the wall under the desk. If you are really desperate I guess you can unplug the wall mounted hair dryer and use the plug in the bathroom. All in all though we had a good stay. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and the price is inexpensive for a downtown Toronto hotel. I would stay there again.

Meh. This hotel is located in downtown Toronto. I would expect, for how expensive it is, for them to have better service and clean your rooms. The day I walked in the sink counters were not as clean as they should be. The next day after they cleaned there were still dirty floors and the counters weren't cleaned, the toilet paper was not restocked etc. Everyone was perfectly nice, especially at the front desk, but I feel like the hotel is overpriced for the quality they serve. Additionally, there's three elevators out of which one doesn't work and the other two were super slow. Basically they have two elevators for 17 floors and it takes forever to get somewhere. One day I was waiting over eight minutes for an elevator. You do have a free breakfast in the morning here and free Wi-Fi. I think if you bring a car it cost about $15 a night, Canadian dollars. The whole neighborhood is nice but I think the hotel isn't in the best part of the neighborhood and a few times while I was hanging outside the hotel doors, on hotel property, several people came up to me and asked me for money, repeatedly. That shouldn't be allowed to happen on the property. I just feel there is a lot of room for improvement. Like I said the staff is nice, no one was rude or mean and I had no issues with them but overall, it needs some work. Too pricey for what you get!

I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Express. The front desk is super nice and the rooms are clean and spacious. I did have one issue with the air conditioner always turning off which was a little annoying but we Dealt with it. The continental breakfast was the same ole thing. We had two reservations (one on points and one with cash and and they were able to connect the two reservations easily). The room has a keurig and even though we do not like the coffee pods that go with keurig we bring out our grounds and filters to drink our own coffee. The coffee station is cute but there is not a lot of space to actually do Work to create all the yummy coffees my family needs. We needed to watch an auburn football game and decided that it would be better to watch in the room instead of a bar because the TV was so large. I would stay here again.

The first two floors are dedicated to dinner seating, while the third floor hosts parties and gatherings. The space worked, but with the number of people invited, it felt a bit tight -- something to keep in mind for larger groups. The vibe was fantastic. Drinks were expertly crafted, the bartenders were attentive, and a DJ kept the energy flowing in the background. As the night progressed, everyone hit the dance floor, and the party truly came alive. Bathrooms were plentiful and well-maintained, and the thoughtful touch of wellness kits in the ladies' room added a hint of luxury. One minor hiccup was the coat check -- it was a bit congested and struggled to accommodate all the coats. But my biggest suggestion for improvement would be the addition of an elevator. Climbing three floors in heels and dresses proved challenging for many, and an elevator would make the space more accessible without taking away from its elegance. Overall, Storys Building delivers a lively, luxurious, and memorable party experience. The energy, drinks, and attention to detail make it a spot worth revisiting -- just come prepared for a little stair workout if you're headed to the third floor.

I put a pair of sunglasses in my backpack's front pocket, I fully expected it to be crushed during coat check. The staff voluntarily assured me that they would make sure it was protected. I've been to other events where the coat check staff had lost my jacket, so the extra care on my belongings added to the positive experience. The staff there were pleasant and even remembered my face when I checked out my coat on the way out. The hors d'oeuvres were great, I enjoyed everything I tried, like the mini sliders, fried chicken, and bruschetta. We also had a taco station that was good too. I didn't expect any less since they are under the same hospitality group as Byblos and Patria, which I've dined at before and enjoyed. The biggest plus is the location, at the heart of the Entertainment District. It's close to many offices and the Financial District. Our cocktail hour ended in 2hrs but there are plenty of bars nearby to extend the get together for another drink. For example, Grace O'Malley's is just across the street and not too busy to grab a seat on a weekday night.

The level of unprofessionalism is appalling for a venue of this scale, but what pushed things over the top was the dismissive attitude that Derek took towards our concerns. As an example, when raising concerns that our final invoice matching our estimate exactly was impossible, Derek disregarded it as a "happy coincidence" despite further investigation showing that the venue had just billed us wrong. This type of tone, and lack of accountability, was consistent in all our communications with him. Mistakes happen, but the flippant attitude that Derek spoke to us with incredibly insulting. Had I known management was like this, we would have picked a different venue.

But I did get a chance to check out their Oval Boardroom and the gallery downstairs where the movie was screened. unfortunaly the event was pretty low lit (you know being Halloween and all) so I wasn't able to really admire the venue, but it seemed great for a medium sized event (I'm not great at guessing numbers but I'd say 150-ish people). The Oval Boardroom amongst a few other smaller rooms was where we spent an hour or so with actors who would act out specific scenes from the movie. It is definitely a very interesting space, again, I didn't get a chance to really walk around to see what some of the items that were a part of the Heritage Centre's deco were like, but there seemed to be a few interesting looking frames around. I'm not sure who catered the food, so I can't really speak for any of the actual venues food, we didn't have hor d'oeuvre served which is usually the case for 360 screenings, so I'm not sure if that was due to the venue or our event hosts. We came to this Toronto location before the Taylor Swift concert, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt like prime Soho House. A beautiful, discrete brick building with an old school interior. Whoever designed this one needs a raise. I'm so tired of the cookie cutter half-assed modern architecture. The ones in LA and NY now feel like it is just a bunch of dorks trying to be seen by God knows who. There is no soul in those locations. We grabbed a drink in the lobby and went upstairs for our 5pm dinner. I domed a couple of negronis and we split a margherita pizza and a bottle of pinot noir before our mains arrived. I got the rigatoni, per the waitresses recommendation because she had a thick Italian accent. Big truss. She wasn't lying either, that rigatoni went crazy. I took like 30 pictures before a staff member came over and said no pictures, as I didn't know that was still a rule here... please don't beat me up. We closed dinner with a couple espresso martinis before setting off on foot to go see Big Tay put on a show. She really did her thing. It was awkward to be told that the coat checks are at the back of the venue, because you had to walk down the aisle and basically walk all the way to where the groom is getting ready. The chairs were not the most comfortable, and they were wooden, so they were quite noisy. Also, there is not a lot of seating, so many people are standing in the front area, even thought it was probably a wedding of less than 75 guests. The upper dining areas is nice; the solarium was bright and beautiful. However, the shape of the dining area is a giant ring, which means there isn't really a central place for the wedding couple/family to sit. Staff: Friendly staff, however they need to work on their attentiveness. Half of the table I was seated at was served, coffee/tea and the other half didn't get served. And no one was checking in on us. When we finally got the attention of one of the people, he directed us to ask a server instead (guess he wasn't a server?!). Food: Very good food. Enjoyed the meal very much. Overall, it is more like a 3.5 out of 5.
