One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever experienced. Holly is an insensitive to handicapped people and their medical ailments. Disturbing to think a corporation of such quality reputation could hire such a low level manager. This hotel has a great location, right off of I-75. There isn't much food around, but the burger place next door is just footsteps away for some good food. The staff was friendly, the lobby was clean, and there are signs and markings everywhere for wearing your masks and social distancing. Only 1 person/family is recommended in the elevator at a time. The free breakfast is adjusted right now. You have a choice between a bagged lunch, cereal, cinnamon roll, or a breakfast sandwich. The sandwiches are frozen, so you do need to use the microwave to heat them up. Overall, we were surprised by the number of different options. Finally, the rooms. The rooms are small, but cozy. I was surprised that the rooms didn't have drawers in them. Instead we had a bench, and a closet. This isn't a big deal when you only plan to stay 1 or 2 nights, but we would definitely reconsider staying there longer. My biggest critique would be that the bathtub is very slippery when wet. Some adhesive ducks would go a long way to keep people from slipping down getting hurt in the bathtub! read more

I stay out of town weekly for work so I'm acclimated to the standards for my hotel rooms. However this room was horrible. There's not privacy curtain, (looks like it was broken off and hasn't been repaired), the tv is bluish/purple on every channel, and it smells like mold in here. Safe stop along the highway. Fair priced for the transient traveler. It's not close to the beach or tucked into the historic downtown and pricing reflects it. Not really a hot bed of hospitality, bland selection of restaurants, but the property is convenient and reasonably modern. Generally quiet at night, but early morning pre-dawn "storms" of loud families headed somewhere with doors slamming and parents shouting, both days. Slightly scuffed furniture and condition, but not bad for it's age. Well prepared breakfast with tasty standbys and the general bland processed hot dishes (some execution of eggs, sausages, biscuits) and as always fresh orange juice on tap and decent coffee. A safe stay, clean, and those silly loose outlets on the beside stand, that plugs fall out of without connecting to charge your toys. read more

It took us five hours to get in a room after check in time than the room we got was the wrong one the next day. They said they were going to fix it and give us the correct room. We left the hotel for nine hours came back still got the wrong room, and it's dirty as heck. They are blaming it on not having staff to clean rooms yet. Everything was good and clean. I made a late reservation on a weekend when there was an event in town. They were very accommodating. We left early in the morning before breakfast started for the half marathon in town. The desk clerk got us bananas from the kitchen. We booked this hotel because it was had adjoining rooms to accommodate my family and I was told I could expect to get the adjoining rooms when I made the reservation. When we checked in, all adjoining rooms were booked and we were given rooms across the hall....doable, not preferable. When we got to the rooms, I was thoroughly grossed out. I have to note the hotel is going through a remodel, so my hope is these issues will be resolved eventually but I would never stay here again. This place is a dump. The room smells like smoke. The bathroom smells like mildew. The carpet seems to be perpetually damp. There are stains everywhere. Thank goodness our stay was short. We arrived late without many options to switch locations. They're the only dog friendly hotel in the area so we didn't have much of a choice since our weekend was dedicated to our puppies. Worth the price you pay. Our room had a jetted tub, king bed, large bathroom, and a fridge. Small complaints: They put us at the end of the hall next to the side entrance, which caused our dogs to bark all night and morning when other patrons came through that door. It was convenient though because we were able to quickly walk our dogs. So, it'd a give and take there. Their internet did not work, and a phone call to the front desk was replied to us to follow the instructions on the card they slipped into our key holder, which was faded from being copied so many times. We just gave up on trying after a few minutes. The AC is a window unit and was bipolar. It would turn on, turn off, turn on, turn off, and if you watched the thermometer, it was in a eternal fight with itself. It's also placed under the drapes and curtains, so if you like privacy on the first floor, you'd have to stuff those curtains against the window to keep the AC from blowing it upwards. Their staff, two ladies, were cordial but I wouldn't compliment as "friendly." We were also charged (but told would be removed) for a safe fee, which apparently was hidden in the closet, that was hidden behind a mirror in the room, which we were not informed about. Their towels felt like sandpaper and one of them had a huge rip in it. All small matters, but should still be addressed. Good things: HUGE Bed. We got the king and for 2 people and 2 fur balls, we slept very well. Huge pillows, labeled soft and firm were clean. Flat screen TV with enough channels to stay entertained after dinner and the sunset since everyone closes at 5pm in Downtown Venice Their shower head is awesome and the bathroom is really big. They're energy efficient with their light bulbs, although it gave a very manufactured warehouse lighting effect. Super convenient. Only 1 minute drive to McDonald's should you need a quick snack, a 5 minute drive to Publix, a 10 minute drive to downtown Venice and 15 minute drive to the brohard dog beach. Overall, a good experience. I'd stay here again should we bring the pups. read more

Not a bad hotel if you dont mind sharing your room with other hotel guests. Keys to our room were given out at least twice that we know of, because people walked in when we were taking a nap and then again while i was in the shower a whole family walked in. The lady at the front desk initially tried to deny it, but admitted the family was standing in front of her. (Who knows how many times this happened thru out the day while we out. This hotel could be really nice except its filty. Our bathroom was covered with hair and dirt, we asked for it to be cleaned but no one ever came, we had to go out and buy cleaner and paper towels and clean ourselves. The cleaners were constantly out at their cars(?). The good part is the manager promised a refund, of which after numerous days and emails we did receive. When my lady and I were driving for a long time we stopped in here at four thirty in the morning. The night manager said he would just charge us a hundred dollars for a room since we were only staying a few hours. We were so happy! They were so nice! But then we checked the card statement in the morning and they charged us three hundred dollars!!! We complained and they took 180 off. No problem but three days later they took another 120 out!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We have called literally seven times since then. They keep saying they will call us back and don't. I suggest if you stay here, pay with CASH ONLY! Or be stolen from. Tried to put us in a handicapped room with no tub. 4. When they charged me for use of the safe in our room, and I asked to credit the charge, one of the desk staff said 'what, it's only a dollar.' I need to mention Christine by name as she was the rudest, most condescending hotel staff I have ever encountered. If HIE has any value for their customer satisfaction I woukd recommending finding somewhere else for her, where she can't roll her eyes and sigh heavily when asked for assistance. The breakfast area (when stocked) was awesome. I think with the large number of teams in the hotel it just got overwhelming on equipment and staff. We had a reservation BUT when we went to check in at 1 am we come to find that there are no rooms available. So why doesn't this mess up warrant a 1 star? Well, the gentlemen whose named I believe is Andy felt terrible and tried everything he could to right the wrong. He eventually got us into a room that was supposed to be reserved for handicapped for the night and then we switched in the morning. All in all, Andy tried his best to make things right and I respect that. The breakfast is good with a lot of variety, clean rooms, and friendly staff. We stayed at "Express" because it was fairly near the Venice Airport. The rooms are comfortable, but there is nowhere super comfortable to sit. They have all the amenities including a microwave and fridge, window A/C, and clean bathrooms. You could have bounced a coin on the two tightly made and immaculate queen beds, but the carpet was dirty. I mentioned this to the manager and she said they will Be replaced 12/12. There aren't a lot of businesses nearby, but the friendly desk clerk recommended A burger place next door which was, as she said, very good. Everyone at the hotel was helpful and friendly. I have always I mean always had a nice stay at a Holiday Inn Express until today. I arrived and checked in. The employee at the front desk was sitting behind a wall on his phone. He was very nice. We could not enter through the back door because the card reader is broke. Went to tell the front desk person. He was back behind the half wall on his phone again. He informed me that both side doors do not work. He said you could go out the doors but you couldn't get back in. You have to go around to the front. If they are both broke it doesn't seem real safe considering they always put a rock in the door to keep it open so they can get back in. We entered our room. They remodeled our room. The furniture was nice. Very comfortable beds. But they forgot new carpet. Very dirty. I went to take a shower and it was so gross. Pictures tell it all. I am very disappointed that this hotel carries the Holiday Inn Express name and looks like this. read more

My wife and I spent two nights at the HIExpress and all in all were pleased. Spacious rooms with king bed and flat screen TV. Plenty of room. Work desk, comphy chair, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Large bathroom with great water pressure. Breakfast was included and was adequate for our needs. More biscuits and gravy, that has to stop!!! On the down side, we had a non smoking room which came with an ashtray and slight smell of smoke. Our comments at the front desk sort of rolled off their backs. The fact that the ashtray was in the room and obviously cleaned by their staff, told me that they condoned smoking in their non-smoking rooms. The pool which was in the shade most of the day, was not well cleaned. For priority club members I don't think we were treated any different to their regular guests. Sounds snobby but we have been treated much better at other Holiday Inns. read more

Staff Review of Holiday Inn Express Venice/Sarasota Pending review House keeping reported our door lock was acting up, yet we never had the 1st problem?; maintenance person unskilled at fixing said problem? locked out of room for hours and hours...finally gets a saw and cuts a hole in door to open it! Manager and Shawn very apologetic about situation, manager tells my room mate and I she would put 2 nights free on each of our IHG accounts...this was the week of Feb 5th 2018 and it's now the 3/12/18 and their phone doesn't answer, IHG can not get them to respond and they never put the free nights stay on our accounts...IHG has sent a request to give me 10k points and basically not their problem, the proverbial buck just got passed. Big loss on their end being that I am a part of a global company which over 80% of the employees travel and only home about one weekend a month....maybe they need a calculator to figure the equation....Not to mention I had to turn around go back to stay again on Feb 12th 2018 and told the young lady to run the stay on my CLC card and not to put a hold on my personal credit card; might as well been speaking a foreign language because she did it anyway and held up my personal money for 8days. Long story short, nobody does the right thing anymore, customer service? what's that? Like the previous review, it's one of the only dog friendly hotels close to venice, so my options were very limited. They have a $30 a pet fee which isn't too bad (I had two dogs, they never asked how many dogs I had so I just went with one, since i was only staying one night) The hotel has an inside side staircase and door to discreetly take your dogs out without causing attention from patrons. The beds are comfortable, The service isn't all that friendly, but with little contact I really didn't care. I'd stay there again only if I had the dogs or if it was for a one night stay--anything longer or without dogs I'd stay somewhere a little bit nicer. read more

This hotel stunk so bad!! Our keys kept deactivating and everything. I took a shower and the shower head had mold on it! The toilet also had a bit of fungi or mold on the Handel. I took microbiology so I knew that there was all mold in the bathroom. The front desk was nice but the room was very stinky. The maid cleaned one of our beds but didn't clean the other. Do not stay here if you need WiFi access. The network is very s...l...o...w. It's like dial-up in 1995. Even worse, it seems to drop the connection entirely every few minutes. Happens on both my PC and iPhone, and is happening to at least one other guest. The hotel's brochure says they have wired access and could get an Ethernet cable at front desk. Went to front desk and they had no idea what I was talking about. The clerk just shrugged her shoulders and smiled. No suggestions. Hotel is otherwise fine, but if you need *any* form of Internet access, this is not the place for you. Stayed here last weekend for a party friends were having in town.. It was a great place.. Rooms were comfortable. We got 2 rooms and one of them smelled like smoke.. Rooms were moderately clean- we found a few things under the bed left by housekeeping. I've stayed here twice, and both times the floor smelled like dirty cat litter. The pool area was very small- too small to enjoy if anyone else was there. Great location, very friendly and helpful front desk staff, and an awesome breakfast that is always restocked and well organized. I gave it two stars because of the odor. read more

Con's: Internet signal (WiFi and even by front desk or hard wired through an Ethernet cable) is the worst I've ever encountered.. Suuuuper slow and cuts out often, even with very few guests around. Second drawback: During the day the front desk is deserted often and for extended periods of time with no bell to ring to alert any of the staff of visitors. I've been in the lobby numerous times and heard countless calls try to get someone to pick up and no one shows up to answer (very strange) All in all, I would definitely stay here again, but only if arriving in the evening with my own internet connection. read more

Giving this one star because the room looked updated and nice. That was about it. The website said construction would be done by the time we came. It is no where near being done. When we checked in we were given keys with no direction. Then we were trying to go through the hallway and there was wet paint so we had to carry our bags in the air to get to the elevator. Then we got to our room, it smelled like cigarettes even though it said it was a smoke free facility. We called down to the front desk to ask if there was anything they could do and they said they would be right up. It's been 3 hours now and I have a feeling they're not coming up. Horrible stay. The walls were so thin I could not only hear the conversations in the room next to me but in the rooms across the hall. The room smelled heavy of smoke. The room didn't have curtains that blocked outside light. Wouldn't have thought it would be a problem but with the parking lot lights it felt like the sun was blaring in all night. Walked into the room at 72°f with the air fan on constant. I turned it down and realized the reason they were keeping it at such a cold level was so guest don't know how wet the interior of the rooms are. Once the fan turned off the smoke/musty smell was overwhelming and the air felt like a wet blanket. The only good thing was the location but there's plenty of other choices. Also the front desk staff assistance was lacking. I didn't bother to tell them about my stay, they also didn't ask. Check in and check out was enough to know that the staff was rude and careless. I later called to discuss my bill since they billed double than what the reservation had quoted. I asked about pet fees when I booked and wasn't told there was one. I also never signed a pet agreement, as now looking at reviews, they claim the fee is in the agreement. I received a call from the manager and he told me other than training and passing the information to corporate there was nothing he could do. Said different locations have different policies and that I should have called the local hotel to book. I let him know that I had and the local person immediately transferred me to the corporate call center for reservations. I also didn't have a chance to discuss this before I left because their system was tied up printing. The attendant said it was either I wait awhile for them to finish or she could email it to me. Not knowing how long that could take, I trusted them to bill what I was quoted. Now I know that was a mistake. Skip this place. read more

The first time we stayed here it was nice. This time not so much. We were assigned to a room that smelled and wasn't even cleaned. My husband got us into another room. This room had a giant stain on the carpet by the door evidently from a dog. Yuk. There was another stain on the ottoman. We checked out the next morning. Staff were very friendly though. We spent the rest of the week at the Fairfield inn behind the race trac across the street. It was the the same price and MUCH cleaner and nicer. We will stay at the Fairfield next time. read more

I recently attended a funeral in Port Charlotte Florida and chose to stay in this holiday INN. Upon check in I found the hotel to be under renovations. First there were no restrooms in the lobby for guest to use during their check in. After a days traveling didn't seem like a big request. I was early so I could not check into my room and had to wait till 3 for check in. I was given a room on the third floor and when I attempted to get into the room the key did not work. I had to wait for the maintenance man to come and look at the lock which he said he could not fix and he moved me to another room. During my four day stay I had to have my room key reactivated on 4 different times. Each time I had to go back to the desk from the third floor to do this. The room was recently remodeled. It was not traveler friendly. There was only a stand up chest to hang clothes in. When someone that was attending the funeral tried to call me I found the room did not even have a phone in it. It also lacked a clock and any dresser to unpack your clothes in. To get into the shower you had to go around the toilet. When the rest of my party checked in on Feb 7 they were given a bereavement rate. I asked the manger to change my rate to the same as those others attending the funeral and she said she had. On Feb 10 I checked out and found that my rate had not been changed like I was told it would be. I asked the clerk at the desk when I checked out and he said he could not change it but would have a manager change it before they processed my credit card for payment so I would be charged the same rate. In addition he took my email and said they would send me an email to confirm the rate change. When I returned home I checked with the credit card company and found I had been charged the full amount. I contacted Holiday Inn Guest Relations and told them of the problem and their answer was "we will forward it Venice and they will contact you within 48 hours" Four days later I have not heard anything from Guest Relations or the Holiday Inn in Venice. In all the Holiday Inn expresses I have stayed in this one has the worst rooms and customer service that I have ever encountered. I would rate them lower than one star if there was an option. Do your self a favor and just keep driving past exit 191 on I-75 in Florida and find the nearest Hampton Inn and check in there. read more

While the room it's self was nice and clean, our problem was with the staff. We had a reservation as a group , our daughters soccer team, the entire hotel was booked for the soccer tournment. Half our team stayed 2 nights we were just there for one - we would've checked out after only one night because of the staff. When we got to the hotel the front desk clerk, Christine, said that our room would be ready early if I would like to come back in a hour. We went to lunch with the soccer team and came back - came back an hour and half later - check in is 3:00 it was only 2:00 - I asked because we had to be back at the field by 2:30.first she said we did not have a reservation, but then we realized that it was under the coaches name - She gave us a room - and there were 4 other families with our team waiting also and she had told them the same thing.our team went to sit in the breakfast area because there was. O where to sit and to have a team meeting - and she came from behind the counter to tell us to move because the cleaning staff needed to clean the area. When our reservation was made we were told they only had king beds - was not a problem for us because it was only my daughter and myself. When we got to our room there was a double bed - one of the other familes with our team had 4 people and she was going to give them a room with a king - so I asked her to change rooms so that they could have the double beds - she exhaled and said that there is a room with. Double bed and that it was earlier to give them that one than do the paperwork to change our names. While I thanked her and the other family she just turned and walked away. We ran to the soccer field and came back and I ralized that we had left the keys in the room so I asked for another one she rolled her eyes and gave it to me I apologized and made a joke about how we had gotten up at 5 and driven to the area for the 8:00 game snd she just clicked her tongue and said I have been up since 4 and I would not have done that. We brought to her attention that the juice machine was leaking all over the breakfast area and she said she knew and there was nothing she could do. The next morning I got up early and went to have coffee @ 7:00 there were 2 teams having breakfast before heading to the field - and Christine was no were to be found - she finally appeared I asked if I could have a late check out - no - may I pay for a late check out ? No and she walked away and into an office in the back. The elderly lady in the breakfast appeared to be annoyed and since I was up I saw the her mood get worst through out the morning - she yelled at the children - hid in the kitchen and refused to restock anything even when asked - another women came out and restocked for everyone - I wish I had gotten her name because she was the only cheerful person on staff and our entire team thanked her. After the ebb and flow of guest our team came down and another team - they were older girl and their coach remined them to clean up after themselves - they left and there was a coke bottle and a napkin left on the table - one of the girls ran back in because she left her shoes on the floor and the old bat began to berated her for the mess that her team left - if the lady had notice the girl was deaf - she had hearing aids in - I went to get my daughter up and looked at my bill - we were quoted 89.00 I liked at my bill and it was for 194.00 I went to the desk and Christine was back - asked her about it and the heavy sigh said it all - while there were people waiting to check out I said that I would leave it for her and come back so that the others can check out. She slammed down the sheet and walked to the other end of the counter - I went back to my room - it is now 9:15 the maids were bitching to one another about the shitty brats in the botel - while my maid was nice when she saw me she ushered the others out of the hall.. Apparently 3 maids on the 4 th floor were also complaining loudly in the hall because that is where the rest of our team was and the parents had to come out and ask them to stop. Breakfast was said to be until 10:30 at 9:50 the lady stared closing things down saying she had had enough. After I got our things packed our maid had already knocked 3 times to clean -check out is 11 - at 11:05 we left our room and went to go over the bill and was informed that she had changed it and for so e reason my bill was showing a rate of 89.00 and she did not think that was right so she might have to charge me extra after she researches it. I asked for a copy of the bill to ensure what my credit card will show - she put it on the counter and said here it is - I stood for a minute she looked up and asked what - I said im am sorry for the inconvence would be nice She rolled her eyes and went to the next person. While the room was nice and we had a great time together as a team - the staff need to find a job where they do not work with the public. read more

One of the worst places I've ever stayed. I don't even know where to start. Got there at 2:55pm (check-in is 3pm) on a Sunday, and the UNfriendly front desk lady told me they needed another hour for a room to be ready, and pointed to all the others in the lobby that were ahead of me. She actually suggested I go to the beach and wait it out. Two hours later (5pm), I called them to check on my status, this time got a different person who told me there still wasn't any rooms available yet. I pitched a fit over the phone and magically a room was ready for us. We eventually checked in to our room on the 3rd floor. It had the most nastiest cigarette smoke smell ever. We finally figured out it was coming from the vent in the bathroom and tried keeping the bathroom door shut, but eventually we gave up and by 10pm we demanded a new room. My 6yr old son was literally crying because he was refusing to the bathroom. I called the front desk and told them and she was already aware of the problem and explained that others had already complained. Apparently the 4th floor was the "designated smoking" floor but the stench seeps into the 3rd floor too. Unfortunately we would have to wait until morning for a new room. The next morning, we sat around till 12:30pm before they finally gave us a new room. I felt like they were TRYING to ruin my vacation. We got the new room, it was nice and clean. The bathroom was a nice size. However, the A/C unit had a mind of it's own and would just stop working, especially in the middle of the night. The refrigerator made so many odd noises and kept waking me up. We learned after Day 2 to keep the "do not disturb" sign on the door or the cleaning people would come at 9am and wake us up. We never got new soap after the first day. We had to ask for additional towels (and had to go get them ourselves). The free breakfast was decent. The man who took care of it was very nice. Although, I heard several complaints from others that the front desk person was often MIA. I noticed it too, especially in the morning time. The pool was boring looking. There is a very nice restaurant next door called BrewBurgers that was surprisingly delicious. I also had a mysterious daily "in room safe" charge that was never explained or disclosed to me. My suggestion, don't stay here unless you are forced too, and if you are a nonsmoker, demand a room on the 1st and 2nd Floor. I would loved to have been asked, "How was your stay?" on my way out the door, but there was no one at the front desk to see us go (at 11am). read more
